Existe-t-il une crise au passage Lias-Dogger chez les ammonites? Approche morphometrique par quantification de la disparite morphologique

Abstract Morphological changes observed in ammonites at the Lias-Dogger (Toarcian-Aalenian) boundary are analyzed here. The study covers all known ammonites worldwide over some 2 m.y. (the last two biozones of the Toarcian: Pseudoradiosa and Aalensis and the first biozone of the Aalenian: Opalinum). Ammonite taxonomy at this boundary is still open to question, the main disagreements being over groupings at family or super-family level. The evolutionary schema developed by Tintant and Mouterde [1981] shows two main sets of Ammonitina for the time: (1) the dominant Hammatocerataceae (Graphoceratidae+Hammatoceratidae) and (2) the final representatives of the Hildocerataceae. Two conservative ammonite stocks coexisted alongside these Ammonitina: Phylloceratina and Lytoceratina. The ammonites under review are those that made the transition from the "typically Liassic stock" to the "post-Liassic stock" prefiguring all subsequent Jurassic ammonites. A morphometric procedure is used to quantify ammonite morphological disparity rather than taxonomic diversity. A set of 35 characters were considered, corresponding to the end of the phragmocone and to the body chamber. We selected 64 morphologies covering the entire range of shapes found at the subzone scale. Morphological disparity is expressed graphically by morphospaces (first factorial plane of correspondence analysis) and arithmetically by a space occupation index (sum of variances on the factor axes). The FAD and LAD of the selected species allow us to study morphospace changes at the subzone scale. The results clearly show changes occurring in the course of the seven subzones. The earliest subzone (Levesquei) has points weakly grouped around two poles (negative and positive F1 values) with an isolated point characterized by a very negative F2 value. Changes in this morphospace from the Pseudoradiosa subzone to the Lugdunensis subzone are marked by increased dispersion around the two poles. By contrast, an increasing number of morphologies have clearly negative F2 values. The Lias-Dogger boundary displays further dispersion of the two morphological poles, leading to them becoming indistinct. Continuation after the boundary shows a very similar pattern with shapes scattered and covering most of the morphospace. The morphospace changes analyzed previously were quantified by the sum of variances of the first 15 factorial axes, representing more than 90% of the information contained in the original matrix. For the Ammonoidea as a whole, the poorest coverage of the morphospace occurred in the Levesquei subzone, while the best coverage occurred in the Comptum and Bifidatum subzones. Between-times, morphological disparity increased at varying rates with no drastic changes at the Lias-Dogger boundary. A similar procedure was performed for the Ammonitina only. Indeed, the occurrence of two conservative sets (Lytoceratina and Phylloceratina) could be suspected of inducing -- at least initially -- two peculiar morphological poles and introducing a bias into the quantification. The results are similar, bringing out more clearly the increase in morphological disparity at the end of the Lias, and its stagnation thereafter. It is difficult to say why morphological disparity increased as it did. The main problem is the lack of any clearly resolved phylogeny for the ammonites under study. However, if we accept the hypothesis of Tintant and Mouterde [1981] recognizing five homogeneous clusters for ammonites of these times, it can be seen that two of them alone (Graphoceratidae first, and Hammatoceratidae later) account for the increased disparity. Within this phylogenetic assumption, it is improbable that external constraints alone, such as eustasy or physico-chemical phenomena, could have brought about the increase, for they would probably have affected all of the ammonoids, or at least the three Ammonitina groups that were initially quite similar in shape (in the Levesquei sub-zone). It is more likely then that internal factors (e.g. heterochrony) leading to two consecutives biological "explosions" (Graphoceratidae and Hammatoceratidae) were instrumental in bringing about this increased disparity. Finally, if the Lias-Dogger boundary is clearly marked by changes at any taxonomic level, our results--based on a quantification of morphological disparity and not on taxonomy--show that changes in ammonites can only be properly understood in a broader context: there was some morphological change at the Lias-Dogger boundary but it was initiated at the beginning of the Pseudoradiosa subzone. The Lias-Dogger event was thus not an unusual or major one, but more the end of a sustained event initiated two zones earlier. This period of time (final two zones of the Toarcian) witnessed progressive growth in disparity, which ceased only at the beginning of the Dogger.

Mycotoxicological monitoring of forages shows that the problem of mycotoxicosis has been relevant for several decades. Minimal doses of mycotoxins in feed lead to a decrease in milk productivity, increased sensitivity to infectious and non-infectious diseases. When several mycotoxins enter the body simultaneously, a synergistic effect develops, causing a significant increase in toxicity. Feed contaminated with several types of fungi and their toxins is dangerous for dairy cattle. It was found that the feed mixture contained the types of associations of Aspergillus spp. fungi + Fusarium; Aspergillus spp. + Penicillium spp. + Mucor spp; Fusarium + Penicillium; Mucor spp. + Fusarium + Ustilaginales. Pathogenetic features of metabolic and morphological changes in highly productive cows with polymycotoxicosis were studied. Feeding food contaminated with various metabolites of mold fungi leads to the development of signs of chronic toxemia in animals. Clinical manifestations are the development of diarrhea and dehydration, with a decrease in milk productivity. Metabolic disorders feature the development of an inflammatory process, metabolic acidosis, hyperfermentonemia, with an increase in the amount of creatinine and urea in the blood serum. Metabolic signs indicate the development of hepatorenal syndrome due to structural disorders of the liver and kidneys. Histological signs of polymicotoxicosis are intracapillary and hemorrhagic glomerulonephritis, hepatocyte micronecrosis, and proliferation of connective tissue stroma cells, which leads to the development of atrophic cirrhosis in the interstitial and circular phases.

Introduction. The impact on the body of such factors of the production environment as coal-rock dust and fluorine compounds leads to certain shift s in strict indicators of homeostasis at the system level. Maintaining the relative constancy of the internal environment of the body is provided by the functional consistency of all organs and systems, the leading of which is the liver. Organ repair plays a crucial role in restoring the structure of genetic material and maintaining normal cell viability. When this mechanism is damaged, the compensatory capabilities of the organ are disrupted, homeostasis is disrupted at the cellular and organizational levels, and the development of the main pathological processes is noted.The aim of the study is to compare the morphological mechanisms of maintaining structural homeostasis of the liver in the dynamics of the impact on the body of coal-rock dust and sodium fluoride.Materials and methods. Experimental studies were conducted on adult white male laboratory rats. Features of morphological mechanisms for maintaining structural homeostasis of the liver in the dynamics of exposure to coal-rock dust and sodium fluoride were studied on experimental models of pneumoconiosis and fluoride intoxication. For histological examination in experimental animals, liver sampling was performed after 1, 3, 6, 9, 12 weeks of the experiment.Results. The specificity of morphological changes in the liver depending on the harmful production factor was revealed. It is shown that chronic exposure to coal-rock dust and sodium fluoride is characterized by the development of similar morphological changes in the liver and its vessels from the predominance of the initial compensatory-adaptive to pronounced violations of the stromal and parenchymal components. Long-term inhalation of coal-rock dust at 1–3 weeks of seeding triggers adaptive mechanisms in the liver in the form of increased functional activity of cells, formation of double-core hepatocytes, activation of immunocompetent cells and endotheliocytes, ensuring the preservation of the parenchyma and the general morphostructure of the organ until the 12th week of the experiment. Exposure to sodium fluoride leads to early disruption of liver compensatory mechanisms and the development of dystrophic changes in the parenchyma with the formation of necrosis foci as early as the 6th week of the experiment.Conclusions. The study of mechanisms for compensating the liver structure in conditions of long-term exposure to coal-rock dust and sodium fluoride, as well as processes that indicate their failure, and the timing of their occurrence, is of theoretical and practical importance for developing recommendations for the timely prevention and correction of pathological conditions developing in employees of the aluminum and coal industry.The authors declare no conflict of interests.

O Brasil apresenta grande disponibilidade de água doce em seus mananciais. Fazendo parte desse recurso encontra-se, o rio Paciência, localizado na Ilha do Maranhão destacado pela sua importância local, principalmente por contribuir com suas águas para recarga dos mananciais subterrâneos, fonte de abastecimento público de vários bairros de São Luís, capital do estado. No entanto, este rio vem sofrendo comprometimento da qualidade de suas águas, consequência do processo de uso e ocupação dos espaços em sua bacia. Destacando-se como um dos principais problemas relacionados a qualidade de ambientes fluviais,  a eutrofização, que consiste no processo em que o corpo d’água adquire elevados níveis de nutrientes (fosfatos e nitratos), é um indicador determinante da qualidade da água. Neste sentido, o objetivo deste trabalho foi caracterizar a qualidade da água e do estado trófico na bacia hidrográfica do rio Paciência atráves dos parâmetros fisico-químico evidenciando os trechos mais comprometidos conforme os valores alcançados nas análises. Os resultados das análises foram comparados com a CONAMA No. 357/05 que indicaram uma situação preocupante quanto à qualidade da água no local de estudo.Palavras-chave: Qualidade de água; Eutrofização; Ilha do Maranhão. ABSTRACTThe Brazil has great availability of fresh water in its springs. Within these contexts, the Paciência River, located on the Island of Maranhão stands out for its local importance, mainly for contributing its waters to the recharge of the underground springs, source of public supply of several districts of São Luís, capital of the state. However, this river has been compromising the quality of its waters, a consequence of the process of use and occupation of the spaces in its basin. Highlighting as one of the main problems related to the quality of fluvial environments, eutrophication, which consists of the process in which the body of water acquires high levels of nutrients (phosphates and nitrates), is a determinant indicator of water quality. In this sense, the objective of this work was to characterize the water quality and trophic status in the Paciência river basin through the physico-chemical parameters, showing the most compromised stretches according to the values reached in the analyzes. This study analyzed the effects of sulphuric acid (H2SO4) treatment on pysico-chemical properties and morphological changes of clay obtained from Sg. Sayong, Perak. The clay was ground and sieved to <150μm and treated with different concentrations of H2SO4. The treatment was completed by refluxing the clay with different concentration of H2SO4 (1M, 5M and 10M ) at 100 °C for 4 hours and followed by calcination at 500 °C for 1 hour. The physic-chemical properties and morphological changes of the untreated and treated clay were compared using Surface Area Analyser, X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Field Emission Scanning Electron Micrograph (FESEM), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Fourier Transformed Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). The results showed that acid treatment of 5M increased the surface area from 25 m2/g to 75 m2/g and the pore volume increased from 0.1518 cc/g to 0.3546 cc/g. The nanopore size of the clay decreased from 24.8 nm to 19.4 nm after treated with acid. This can be explained due to the elimination of the exchangeable cations and generation of microporosity. The results of XRF showed SiO2 increased from 58.34% to 74.52% and Al2O3 reduced from 34.6% to 18.31%. The mineral oxides such as Fe2O3, MgO, CaO, K2O and TiO2 also reduced. This concluded that H2SO4 treatment has led to significant removal of octahedral Al3+, Fe3+ cations and other impurities. In conclusion, this study showed the physico-chemical properties and morphology of Sayong clay were improved once treated with H2SO4 and therefore suggests better supporting material for enzyme immobilization.

This review focuses on the process of enamel maturation, a series of events associated with slow, progressive growth in the width and thickness of apatitic crystals. This developmental step causes gradual physical hardening and transformation of soft, newly formed enamel into one of the most durable mineralized tissues produced biologically. Enamel is the secretory product of specialized epithelial cells, the ameloblasts, which make this covering on the crowns of teeth in two steps. First, they roughly "map out" the location and limits (overall thickness) of the entire extracellular layer as a protein-rich, acellular, and avascular matrix filled with thin, ribbon-like crystals of carbonated hydroxyapatite. These initial crystals are organized spatially into rod and interrod territories as they form, and rod crystals are lengthened by Tomes' processes in tandem with appositional movement of ameloblasts away from the dentin surface. Once the full thickness of enamel has been formed, ameloblasts initiate a series of repetitive morphological changes at the enamel surface in which tight junctions and deep membrane infoldings periodically appear (ruffle-ended), then disappear for short intervals (smooth-ended), from the apical ends of the cells. As this happens, the enamel covered by these cells changes rhythmically in net pH from mildly acidic (ruffle-ended) to near-physiologic (smooth-ended) as mineral crystals slowly expand into the "spaces" (volume) formerly occupied by matrix proteins and water. Matrix proteins are processed and degraded by proteinases throughout amelogenesis, but they undergo more rapid destruction once ameloblast modulation begins. Ruffle-ended ameloblasts appear to function primarily as a regulatory and transport epithelium for controlling the movement of calcium and other ions such as bicarbonate into enamel to maintain buffering capacity and driving forces optimized for surface crystal growth. The reason ruffle-ended ameloblasts become smooth-ended periodically is unknown, although this event seems to be crucial for sustaining long-term crystal growth.

During the staphylococcal infection, changes in the interaction of glandular cells, dystrophic and disorganizing pathologies in tissues, especially acute structural and hemodynamic changes in the stroma of the glands in the pituitary-adrenal-thyroid system, develop from the first day of the experiment. At the end of the experiment, on the background of a decrease in exudative processes, fibroplastic reactions are significantly activated, resulting in signs of incomplete regeneration – mainly sclerotic processes and cystic-atrophic changes in the parenchyma. Structural changes in tissues in the early stages of staphylococcal infection and the dynamics of development are characterized by specific symptoms in each of the glands. Since the pituitary gland is exposed to endogenous and exogenous factors earlier and more often than the adrenal glands, and the adrenal glands are earlier than the thyroid gland, dystrophic and destructive changes in the pituitary and adrenal glands are more pronounced at the early stage of the experiment. These morphological changes can change the hormonal status of the body and lead to dysfunction of the endocrine system as a whole – a decrease in the functional activity of the glands to some extent, and even inhibition of adenohypophyseal cells. At the same time, this type of therapy still does not have an exact scientific basis; Thus, there are many different views on the essence of the action of this method, but there are still no precise indications and contraindications for the use of autohemotherapy for certain types of diseases, then the dosage, frequency of injections, their number, etc., vary sharply among different authors. we will review the following issues - the essence of the action of autohemotherapy, the dosage and frequency of injections, the reaction of the body (general, focal, local), the advantage of one or another method of using autoblood injections (intracutaneous, subcutaneous and intramuscular routes of administration) and, finally, morphological changes in blood during this method of treatment.

Dystrophic lakes undergo natural disharmonic succession, in the course of which an increasingly complex and diverse, mosaic-like pattern of habitats evolves. In the final seral stage, the most important role is played by a spreading Sphagnum mat, which gradually reduces the lake’s open water surface area. Long-term transformations in the primary structure of lakes cause changes in the structure of lake-dwelling fauna assemblages. Knowledge of the succession mechanisms in lake fauna is essential for proper lake management. The use of fractal concepts helps to explain the character of fauna in relation to other aspects of the changing complexity of habitats. Our 12-year-long study into the succession of water beetles has covered habitats of 40 selected lakes which are diverse in terms of the fractal dimension. The taxonomic diversity and density of lake beetles increase parallel to an increase in the fractal dimension. An in-depth analysis of the fractal structure proved to be helpful in explaining the directional changes in fauna induced by the natural succession of lakes. Negative correlations appear between the body size and abundance. An increase in the density of beetles within the higher dimension fractals is counterbalanced by a change in the size of individual organisms. As a result, the biomass is constant, regardless of the fractal dimension.

Objective: To evaluate the morphological changes of Cuban super heavyweight boxers, more and less successful, through the period 1976-2014. Material and method: Thirty super heavy boxers, who were members of the Cuban national teams in the period 1976-2014, were compared; The strategy consisted of separating the group in the periods 1976-1989, 1990-1999, 2000-2009 and 2010-2014. Sixteen anthropometric dimensions were recorded (weight, height, sitting height, six skinfold thickness, five girths and two breadths), from which the body composition and the somatotype were obtained. The data were analyzed applying the Analysis of variance (ANOVA). The conglomerate analysis based on the Euclidean distance was used in order to evaluate the correspondence between physical development and sports performance. A discriminant analysis was carried out in order to analyze the contribution of the anthropometrical variables to the variance of different clusters. Results: Most of the anthropometric dimensions and indicators showed significant differences, having an impact on the increase in adiposity, body fat and endomorphy (p <0.05), as well as the decrease in the indicators dependent on height (p <0.05). The analysis by conglomerates, as well as the study of the Migratory Distances of the somatotype, showed that the Olympic medalist boxers differed in terms of the characteristics of body composition and in terms of the intensity of the somatotype changes in the period 1976-2014. Conclusions: The Cuban boxer of the super heavyweight category showed a wide range of morphological demands, but these were framed within the international trends of professional boxers. The morphological attributes of the Olympic medalists differed from each other, and from the rest of the boxers investigated over time. These results provide anthropometric data of high scientific value, both for selection and for medical control of training.

Herein we present the preparation of two novel cyclam-based macrocycles (te1pyp and cb-te1pyp), bearing phosphonate-appended pyridine side-arms for the coordination of copper(II) ions in the context of 64Cu PET imaging. The two ligands have been prepared through conventional protection-alkylation sequences on cyclam, and their coordination properties have been thoroughly investigated. The corresponding copper complexes have been fully characterized in the solid-state (X-Ray diffraction analysis) and in solution (EPR and UV-Vis spectroscopies). Potentiometric studies, combined with spectrometry, have also allowed us to determine their thermodynamic stability constants, confirming their high affinity for copper(II) cations. The kinetic inertness of the complexes has also been verified by acid-assisted dissociation experiments, enabling their use in 64Cu-PET imaging in mice for the first time. Indeed, the two ligands could be quantitatively radiolabeled under mild conditions, and the resulting 64Cu complexes have demonstrated excellent stability in serum. PET imaging demon-strated a set of features emerging from the combination of picolinates and phosphonate units: high stability in vivo, fast clear-ance from the body via renal elimination, and most interestingly, very low fixation in the liver. The latter is in contrast with what was observed for monopicolinate cyclam (te1pa), that had a non-negligible accumulation in the liver, owing probably to its different charge and lipophillicity. These results thus pave the way for the use of such phosphonated pyridine chelators for in vivo 64Cu-PET imaging.
