Abstract The chemical quality of the water used for dialysis fluid is a crucial factor for patients receiving dialysis. Therefore, strict monitoring of the quality of water is necessary in order to prevent complications and to guarantee the safety and health of patients. The current study aimed to determine the chemical water quality used in hemodialysis treatment plants and compare it to standards of the Association for advancement of medical instrumentation (AAMI) and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in four hospitals in Baghdad. This cross-sectional study is performed in four seasons in 2019. This research was conducted on samples of dialysis water. Samples were tested by the spectrometry system (AA-7000, Shimadzu, Japan) and colorimeters DR890 for free chlorine. Microsoft 2010 was used for statistical analyses. Based on the results of the research, all concentrations of chemical compounds were within accepted international standards except free chlorine. Also, there were no significant differences between the measured parameters in the dialysis water at four treatment plants during the study period at (P < 0.05). The assessment of water quality hemodialysis showed that these hemodialysis treatment plants were not significantly contaminated and that the quality of the water met the AAMI and ISO standards.

AbstractBackgroundClean water is an essential element for human health, wellbeing, and prosperity. Every human being has the right to access safe drinking water. But, in now day, due to rapid population growth, illiteracy, lack of sustainable development, and climate change; it still faces a global challenge for about one billion people in the developing nation. The discontinuity of drinking water supply puts in force households either to use unsafe water storage materials or to use water from unimproved sources. This study aimed to identify the determinants of water source types, use, quality of water, and sanitation perception of physical parameters among urban households in North-West Ethiopia.MethodsA community-based cross-sectional study was conducted among households from February to March 2019. An interview-based pre-tested and structured questionnaire was used to collect the data. Data collection samples were selected randomly and proportional to each kebeles’ households. MS Excel and R Version 3.6.2 was used to enter and analyze the data; respectively. Descriptive statistics using frequencies and percentages were used to explain the sample data concerning the predictor variable. Both bivariate and multivariate logistic regressions were used to assess the association between the independent and the response variables.ResultsFour hundred eighteen (418) households have participated. Based on the study undertaken, 78.95% of households used improved and 21.05% of households used unimproved drinking water sources. Households drinking water sources are significantly associated with age of participant (x2 = 20.392, df=3), educational status (x2 = 19.358, df=4), source of income (x2 = 21.777, df=3), monthly income (x2 = 13.322, df=3), availability of additional facilities (x2 = 98.144, df=7), cleanness status (x2 =42.979, df=4), scarcity of water (x2 = 5.1388, df=1) and family size (x2 = 9.934, df=2). The logistic regression analysis also indicated as those factors are significantly determined (p 0.05) the water source types used by households. Factors such as availability of toilet facility, household member type, and sex of head of the household are not significantly associated with the drinking water sources.ConclusionThe study showed that being an older age group of the head of the household, being government employer, merchant and self-employed, being a higher income group, the presence of all facilities in the area, lived in a clean surrounding and lower family size are the determinant factors of using drinking water from improved sources. Therefore; the local, regional, and national governments and other supporting organizations shall improve the accessibility and adequacy of drinking water from improved sources through short and long time plans for the well-being of the community in the area.

Abstract: Limited availability of raw water is one of the problems encountered in the provision of water services in Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to determine the difference in the quality of well water within 0-100 meters and within 101-200 meters from the beach by measuring physical parameters, i.e.unclearness. The number of samples in this study were 65 wells owned by residents in the Village of Madidir Ure and from those wells there are 25 with a distance of 0-100 meters and 40 with a distance of 101-200 meters from the beach.The parameters were observed referring to the Regulation of the Minister of Health of Indonesia Number 479/Menkes/Per/IV/2010 about the Terms and Water Quality Monitoring, including the physical parameters such as unclearness measured by using turbidity. Data collection methods used in this study is a cross sectional and the laboratory analysis was done in “Badan Teknik Kesehatan Lingkungan (BTKL)” Manado.  The results, show water quality from the well within distance of 0-100 meters exceeds a set of maximum levels of more than 5 NTU, while the result of the water quality within 101-200 meters does not exceed the maximum of 5 NTU. Conclusion: there is a difference in the quality of water in the Village of Madidir Bitung City Ure taken from the well within a distance of 0-100 meters and the well within 101-200 meters from the beach. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui perbedaan kualitas air sumur yang berjarak 0-100 meter dan 101-200 meter dari tepi pantai dengan parameter ukur fisika. Jumlah sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah 65 sumur milik penduduk di Kelurahan Madidir Ure dan keseluruhan sumur tersebut ada 25 sumur dengan jarak 0-100 meter dan 40 sumur dengan jarak 101-200 meter dari tepi pantai. Adapun parameter yang diamati mengacu pada Peraturan Menteri Kesehatan Indonesia Nomor 479/Menkes/ Per/IV/2010 tentang syarat-syarat dan Pengawasan Kualitas Air yang meliputi parameter fisika seperti kekeruhan. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Cross sectional atau potong lintang dan dianalisis di laboratorium Badan Teknik Kesehatan Lingkungan (BTKL) Manado. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kualitas air dengan jarak 0-100 meter melebihi kadar maksimum yang ditetapkan yaitu lebih dari 5 NTU (Nephlometer Turbidity Unit), sedangkan kualitas air dengan jarak 101-200 meter hasilnya tidak melebihi kadar maksimum yang telah ditetapkan yaitu kurang dari 5 NTU (Nephlometer Turbidity Unit). Simpulan: terdapat perbedaan kualitas air sumur di Kelurahan Madidir Ure Kota Bitung yang diukur dari jarak 0-100 meter dan 101-200 meter dari tepi pantai. The Nainital Lake, situated in the central Himalayas of India, is an important water body and a major tourist spot. This study aims to identify factors or processes that determine the water quality of the lake. For this purpose, water samples from two different points were collected—highly polluted (Mallital) and least polluted (Tallital)—to represent the actual level of pollution in the lake in four different seasons (January, April, July, and October). The collected samples were analyzed for different physical and chemical parameters. In order to assess the state of the lake’s water quality, the samples were compared with the standard water quality values. Turbidity, electrical conductivity, total alkalinity, and heavy metal (lead, iron, and copper) concentration were found to be above the desirable limit of the prescribed national and international standards in all four seasons at both Mallital and Tallital. Reasons affecting the water quality were found to be natural (thermal stratification and lead-bearing rocks) and anthropogenic (domestic sewage, runoff, and illegal construction activities in the vicinity of lake). Various lake restoration alternatives/interventions have been suggested that can lead to an improvement in the lake’s water quality, such as afforestation, phytoremediation, and sediment basin.

ABSTRAKWaduk Cirata merupakan salah satu danau buatan yang terdapat di Provinsi Jawa Barat. Waduk Cirata terletak berurutan (cascade) diantara Waduk Saguling dan Jatiluhur yang membendung Sungai Citarum. Telah diketahui kualitas air sungai yang masuk ke Waduk Cirata telah tercemar dan menyebabkan kualitas air Waduk Cirata menurun. Berdasarkan hal tersebut maka diperlukan suatu penelitian untuk mengetahui kualitas air menggunakan metode indeks pencemaran dengan indikator plankton dan bentos. Lokasi sampling dilakukan di Sungai Citarum, Cibalagung, Cicendo dan perairan Waduk Cirata di Desa Mande dan Margaluyu. Status mutu air sungai dan air Waduk Cirata dikategorikan cemar sedang. Parameter kualitas air sungai dan perairan Waduk Cirata yang melebihi baku mutu yaitu DO, BOD, Nitrit, Klorin Bebas, Timbal, dan Fenol. Total beban pencemaran dari 3 sungai yang masuk ke Waduk Cirata adalah BOD sebesar 10,839 kg/hari, Nitrit sebesar 0,336 kg/hari, Klorin Bebas sebesar 16,685 kg/hari, Timbal sebesar 0,083 kg/hari dan Fenol sebesar 0,008 kg/hari. Keanekaragaman plankton dan bentos di Desa Mande dan Margaluyu yaitu sedang. Di Desa Mande, spesies yang mendominasi fitoplankton yaitu Volvox sp. dan zooplankton yaitu Brachionus calyciflorus. Sedangkan bentos spesies yang mendominasi yaitu Filopaludina sp. Di Desa Margaluyu, spesies yang mendominasi fitoplankton yaitu Volvox sp. dan zooplankton yaitu Moina sp. Sedangkan bentos spesies yang mendominasi yaitu Macrobrachium sp.Kata Kunci: Cirata, Citarum, Kualitas Air, Beban Pencemaran, Plankton, BentosABSTRACTCirata Reservoir is one of the artificial lakes in West Java Province. Cirata Reservoir is located in a cascade between Saguling and Jatiluhur Reservoir which damages the Citarum River. It is known that the quality of river water entering the Cirata Reservoir has been polluted and caused the water quality of the Cirata Reservoir to decrease. Based on this, a study is needed to find out the quality of water using the pollution index method with plankton and benthic indicators. Sampling locations were carried out in the Citarum, Cibalagung, Cicendo and Cirata Reservoir waters in Mande and Margaluyu Villages. The status of river water quality and the water of Cirata Reservoir are categorized as medium pollution. Parameters of river and water quality of the Cirata Reservoir that exceed the quality standards are DO, BOD, Nitrite, Free Chlorine, Lead and Phenol. The total pollution load from the 3 rivers that enter the Cirata Reservoir is BOD of 10.839 kg/day, Nitrite of 0.336 kg/day, Free Chlorine of 16.658 kg/day, Lead of 0.083 kg/day and Fenol of 0.008 kg/day. The diversity of plankton and benthos in Mande and Margaluyu villages is medium. In Mande Village, the species that dominates phytoplankton namely Volvox sp. and zooplankton are Brachionus calyciflorus. Whereas the dominating benthic species, Filopaludina sp. In Margaluyu Village, the species that dominate the phytoplankton, Volvox sp. and zooplankton, Moina sp. Background. Dialysis water quality is one of the most important factors for ensuring the safe and effective delivery of hemodialysis. It has been known for over a decade that there might be hazardous contaminants in the water and concentrates used to prepare dialysis fluid. Rigorous international standards for the purification of dialysis fluids have been established, which were used in the present study to compare the quality of dialysis water as there is no national standard for dialysis water quality in Iraq. Objectives. There are more than 20 dialysis centers in Iraq, most of which contain similar units for the processing of dialysis water. The present study evaluated the quality of water used for dialysis in four dialysis centers located within Baghdad hospitals. Methods. Physical and chemical tests were carried out in the laboratory after sampling water from each dialysis center. Water samples were collected from three locations in each dialysis center. Hospital municipal water samples were collected from the tanks feeding dialysis units; samples of dialysis water were collected from the dialysis water treatment unit outlets; and samples of dialysis water were collected from the distribution network in dialysis rooms. Results. The results showed a fluctuation in the quality of the dialysis water (dialysis water and water from the dialysis distribution network), indicating that it is unacceptable compared to international standards. Chemical analysis showed that 75% of the dialysis water had elevated aluminum concentrations. Chemical analysis also found that dialysis water had elevated concentrations of free residual chlorine at some dialysis centers. Conclusions. All hemodialysis centers need careful monitoring and preventive maintenance to ensure good water quality. In addition, it is important to revise the design of the water treatment units according to water quality. Competing Interests. The authors declare no competing financial interests

The Maxakali is the second largest indigenous population in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil; and parasitic diseases are its main cause of death. Problems related to the quality of water consumed by this population, added to the absence of public sanitation services, aggravate the risk of illnesses due to several water-borne pathologies. Thus, the main purpose of this paper was to evaluate the water quality consumed in natura by the Maxakali community, quantifying toxic metals in relation to the maximum values allowed by Brazilian law. A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out with samples of water collected in surfaceand groundwater in the Maxakali villages, including three seasonal periods. Villages with the greatest number of altered measures of metals in water were Aldeias Pradinho (100%) and Água Boa (92%). The smallest number of changes were found in Aldeias Verde and Rafael (27%). The metals that appeared in the largest number of collections with values higher than recommended were Iron (50%), followed by Arsenic (46%), Aluminum (36%), Cadmium (22%) and Mercury (20%), respectively. The study identified high concentrations of toxic metals in the water consumed by the Maxakali indigenous community in Brazil.

The supply of drinking water to the population is an important challenge facing humanity, since both surface and underground sources present a great variability of water storage with respect to space and time. This problem is further aggravated in arid and semi-arid areas where rainfall is low and torrential, which makes groundwater the main source of supply; therefore, it is necessary to carry out studies that allow evaluating the evolution of the quantity and quality of water. This study addresses the behavior of groundwater in a semi-arid region, considering the theory of flow systems to identify movement as well as water quality, es determined by a water quality index (WQI), calculated considering arsenic and fluorine. In addition, a quality irrigation classification is used, employing the norms in accordance with international standards and the Mexican Norm, which allows for a comparison. Local, regional, intermediate and mixed flow systems are identified, and the evolution of cations and anions in addition to temperature is examined. It is observed that the drinking water quality index classifies them as excellent in most of the monitored wells (<50), but with a negative evolution. Regarding irrigation, most of the water samples are classified without restriction for the establishment of any type II crop (C2S1) and with restrictions for horticultural crops. It is observed that arsenic had values between 0.49 and 61.40 (µg/L) in 2005, while in 2015 they were between 0.10 and 241.30 (µg/L). In addition, fluoride presented values between 0.00 and 2.6 (mg/L) in 2005, while in 2015 they were between 0.28 and 5.40 (mg/L). The correlations between arsenic and fluorine are noted as well as WQI and SAR. A finding in this research was to include arsenic and fluorine in the calculation of the WQI allowing a better interpretation of the quality of water for both human consumption and for agricultural use to based on this make the best decision to control any harmful effects for the population, in addition to identifying the appropriate purification treatment required to control pollutants. It is concluded that arsenic is an element of utmost importance when considering water quality, so it is necessary to examine its evolution and continue to monitor its levels constantly.

Aims of this Study: To investigate the climate change{effects in Iraq on the quality and quantity of the water of the Tigris River from {Mosul” city to South of Baghdad city.00 This paper provides a review of the observed and the predicted impacts of climate change on the water quality in the Tigris River in Iraq. Study Design: Cross-Sectional study. Place and Duration of Study: The study area is starting {from Mosul city which is located in {the north part of Iraq to the Al-Azziziyah city located in the south of Baghdad (2005-2012) . Methodology: The current study was include the available historical data which are the discharge and hydrochemical analysis includes (Ca, Mg, Na, K, Cl, SO4, HCO3, TDS,NO3, and EC) were taken from 6 stations along the Tigris’ River from Mosul to the south of Baghdad’ cities for the years 2005 to 20112. The available historical climate data’ includes (Rainfall and Temperature) for the period 1990-2012. In this paper also, used some of pervious studies and compared them with the current results. Results: The average annual flow of the Tigris River in Mosul station for the period (1990-2012) ranged between’ (193.8-906) m3/sec and for Sammarra station ranged between’ (366-977) m3/sec. Then, between south of Sammarra’city and north of Baghdad city, Canal of Dijla’joins the Tigris River has a discharge ranges between’ (9-217) m3/sec. After that, the ’Tigris River inter to Baghdad city, the discharge value range between’ (392-1173) m3/sec’and continue his flow to the south of Baghdad city and Diyala River joins it with discharge’range between (55-193) m3/sec. Finally, the Tigris River reaches to’Al-Azizziyah city station with’discharge ranges between (134-769) m3/sec. Conclusion: In general the water quality of the Tigris River are sulfates, calcium, and magnesium. But in Canal of Dijla the most dominant ion is sodium due to agricultural activities and geology of the area consist of gypsum rocks and this can be effects on water quality of Tigris River in the next station (Baghdad). In Al-Azizziyah city the sulfates, calcium, and Sodium is high level due to drainage from irrigation, industrial“and domestic activities.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate hearing outcome after stapedotomy in patients with Otosclerosis. Methods: This cross sectional study was carried out from July 2017 to January 2019 in National Institute of ENT, Unit V. About 22 patients with Otosclerosis were included in this study. Diagnosis of Otosclerosis was based on the history, medical status with Otoscopy, Tuning fork tests and Audiometric tests. We compiled data on the pre and post operative air-bone gap (ABG) at 0.5, 1, 2 KHZ. The ABG was Calculated using AC and BC thresholds on the same audiogram. Post operative hearing gain was then Calculated from the ABG before the operation minus the ABG of the last follow up examination Results: In this study most of the cases were age group 14-30 years (72.7%), female (54.5%). Most common symptoms was progressive hearing loss, tinnitus (77.8%).The average preoperative hearing loss in this study was (AC) was 48.31±7.68. The average post opt. hearing (AC) at follow up was 28.95±10.30 with an average hearing gain of 15.40±8.53 dB which was significant. The average pre-operative ABG was 28.99 dB ± 8.10. The average post opt. ABG was analyzed at 1 follow up showed ABG 13.18±8.09 dB which was found to be significant. Conclusion: Stapedotomy is an effective surgical procedure for the treatment of otosclerosis which leads to improvement in patient’s quality of life. A favorable hearing outcome can be obtained by the combination of experienced hands with minimal surgical trauma and appropriate surgical technique.
