A Generalized Approach on Outage Performance Analysis of Dual-Hop Decode and Forward Relaying for 5G and Beyond Scenarios

Abstract This paper presents a generalized approach on performance of relay aided communication systems for 5G and beyond scenarios. A dual-hop decode and forwarding scheme is considered in the analysis. The relationship between the outage performance and cumulative distribution function (CDF) of signal to noise ratio (SNR) is exploited to derive a universal expression of outage probability valid for all fading scenarios irrespective of their nature or complexity. Further, an effort is made to parameterise the channel PDF in such a manner that reflects a commonly encountered practical fading scenario faced by current and future wireless communication systems. The analytical results obtained for various cases are validated by Monte-Carlo simulations.

Stacked Alamouti coding in MIMO wireless communication systems was analyzed through equivalent channel.We derive an upper bound on the portion of the ergodic capacity that the stacked Alamouti scheme can achieve, which is dependent on the ratio of number of transmit antennas to that of receive antennas in the high signal-to-noise ratio regime. As a conclusion, it is shown that the stacked Alamouti scheme can approach the channel capacity as long as the number of transmit antennas is no less than two times that of receive antennas.

We present novel general, simple, exact, and closed-form expressions for the probability density function (PDF) and cumulative distribution function (CDF) of the ratio of the products of two independentα-μvariates, where all variates have identical values of alpha parameter. Obtained results are applied in analysis of multihop wireless communication systems in different fading transmission environments. The proposed theoretical analysis is also complemented by various graphically presented numerical results.

In this paper, we investigate the performance of the non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system with incremental relaying, where the relay is employed with amplify-and-forward (AF) or decode-and-forward (DF) protocols. To characterize the outage behaviors of the incremental cooperative NOMA (ICN) system, new closed-form expressions of both exact and asymptotic outage probability for two users are derived. In addition, the performance of the conventional cooperative NOMA (CCN) system is analyzed as a benchmark for the the purpose of comparison. We confirm that the outage performance of the distant user is enhanced when ICN system is employed. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate that (1) the near user of the ICN system achieves better outage behavior than that of the CCN system in the low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) region; (2) the outage performance of distant user for the DF-based ICN system is superior to that of the AF-based ICN system when the system works in cooperative NOMA transmission mode; and (3) in the low SNR, the throughput of the ICN system is higher than that of the CCN system.

Probabilistic shaping (PS) is a powerful tool that can realize a flexible data rate and high spectrum efficiency. However, the performance of PS is closely related to the quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) order, source entropy (SE), normalized generalized mutual information (NGMI), and achievable information rate (AIR). In this paper, we investigated the relationship between PS QAM order, SE, NGMI, and AIR performance for the first time in the visible light communication (VLC) system. Under a specific signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), the PS QAM order and SE in this paper can realize a high AIR at a preset NGMI threshold with the lowest computation complexity, which is just 0.1 bit smaller than the highest AIR. Simulation and experimental results show that the NGMI fluctuates between only ±0.005 of the preset NGMI threshold, which proves that the scheme proposed in this paper is feasible.

The distributions of random variables are of interest in many areas of science. In this paper, the probability density function (PDF) and cumulative distribution function (CDF) of ratio of products of two random variables and random variable are derived. Random variables are described with Rayleigh, Nakagami-m, Weibull, andα-μdistributions. An application of obtained results in performance analysis of multihop wireless communication systems in different transmission environments described in detail. The proposed mathematical analysis is also complemented by various graphically presented numerical results.

An algorithm for estimating time positions and amplitudes of a periodic pulse sequence from a small number of samples was proposed. The number of these samples was determined only by the number of pulses. The performance of this algorithm was considered on the assumption that the spectrum of the original signal is limited with an ideal low-pass filter or the Nyquist filter, and conditions for the conversion from one filter to the other were determined. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm was investigated through analyzing in which way the dispersion of estimates of time positions and amplitudes depends on the signal-to-noise ratio and on the number of pulses in the sequence. It was shown that, from this point of view, the efficiency of the algorithm decreases with increasing number of sequence pulses. Besides, the efficiency of the proposed algorithm decreases with decreasing signal-to-noise ratio.It was found that, unlike the classical maximum likelihood algorithm, the proposed algorithm does not require a search for the maximum of a multivariable function, meanwhile characteristics of the estimates are practically the same for both these methods. Also, it was shown that the estimation accuracy of the proposed algorithm can be increased by an insignificant increase in the number of signal samples.The results obtained may be used in the practical design of laser communication systems, in which the multipulse pulse-position modulation is used for message transmission.

In this paper, we calculate and measure the SNR theoretically and experimental for digital full duplex optical communication systems for different ranges in free space, the system consists of transmitter and receiver in each side. The semiconductor laser (pointer) was used as a carrier wave in free space with the specification is 5mW power and 650nm wavelength. The type of optical detector was used a PIN with area 1mm2 and responsively 0.4A/W for this wavelength. The results show a high quality optical communication system for different range from (300-1300)m with different bit rat (60-140)kbit/sec is achieved with best values of the signal to noise ratio (SNR).

<span>Relay selection strategy under maximum-signal-to-noise ratio (MAX-SNR) criterion was proven to maximize performance but at the expense of losing fairness among the cooperative relays. In this work, the effect of controlling the MAX-SNR criterion on the spectral efficiency of cooperative wireless communication system with adaptive modulation is investigated. Specifically, the probability density function (PDF) of the end-to-end SNR for the considered system is derived when the controlled selection criterion is considered. Base on that PDF, the average spectral efficiency is then derived and investigated. The results show how the spectral efficiency of the system deteriorates as controlling the selection of a relay. Furthermore, the results of Monte Carlo simulation validate the derived expression.</span>

In the context of continuous improvement of radio prospecting and active radio jamming technics along with introduction of automated active countermeasures systems (ACS), the frequency-hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) radio communication systems (RCS) are widely used in order to improve reliability and noise immunity of data transmission. The noise immunity of the RCS affected by unintentional or deliberate interference can be significantly perfected by the combined use of frequency-time division and antinoise coding. This paper explores the case when the interference created by an ACS system with a limited transmitter power covers a part of the RCS frequency range. The receiver gets input mix of the wanted signal, the receiver noise, and probably a deliberate interference also considered as a noise. The article analyzes the noise immunity of signals reception with FHSS in the low-speed radio systems with joint use of frequency-time division of information subsymbols and noise combating codes when the deliberate interference destructively impacts a part of the RCS working band. Dependence of the bit error probability on the signal-to-noise ratio is calculated for the joint use of frequency division of information subsymbols and noise combating codes. It is shown that due to effective use of the frequency-energy resource of a radio line, considering the use of correction codes, a quite high noise immunity of RCS under the influence of deliberate interference can be assured. The indicated dependences of the error probability on the signal-to-noise ratio confirm that the reliability of data transmission can be significantly increased by the proper combination of signal spectrum spreading, applying of correction codes, and frequency division of subsymbols followed by their weight processing.
