Being one of the vital categories for all living beings on earth, space determines the boundaries for all humans in general as well as for an individual in particular. To define such boundaries, people employ a specific code that consists of the symbols of space. The latter are distinctly manifested in one of the most archaic forms of oral folk literature, the genre of folktale, which is imbued with the elements of the mythological worldview of primitive people, their mentality and mode of existence. One of the groups of symbols that foreground the symbolism of space in folktales is the symbols of border. They designate the boundary between ‘our’ and ‘their’ space in folktales as well as in daily life. Despite relatively extended research in the field of folktale symbols, there are few studies devoted to the issue of conveying the symbols of border into the target language. The goals of the article include the highlighting of the ways of rendering the symbols of border taken from English and Ukrainian folktales and the assessment of the adequacy of their reproduction in the target language. According to the results of the research, it can be concluded that due to its universal character, the symbols of border are easily rendered into the receiving linguocultures. However, an adequate reproduction of the symbols of border requires the identification of their role in a certain folktale text, and, consequently, the importance of their rendering into the target language. Moreover, it is essential to note, that elimination or change of the symbols of border may cause the violation of the integrity of the symbolic picture of the folktale and at the same time lead to the inadequate perception of the text by the receiving culture. Teaching a foreign language aims at not only teaching the language and language skills, but transferring the culture of the target language. The main reason for that is people learn the target language as a standby in addition to learning the language. It is important that the more individuals learn the cultural features of the country the more they understand the language better. It is an undeniable fact that language and culture are inseparable parts, so culture should be learned simultaneously while learning that language. Because of that relationship between language and culture, language teaching also means teaching culture. Foreign language textbooks reflect the characteristics of the language-speaking community and make it a cultural product of that language. This study is to identify the place and importance of the textbooks used in teaching Turkish to foreigners in the target language teaching and to research which cultural items these books convey. Thus,  A1-A2 level textbooks of the Turkish teaching set for Gazi Foreigners were selected as a sample and done document analysis to identify what these sources include in terms of "daily life, interpersonal relations, values and education, literature-arts and music, traditions and folklore, social life, geography and space, foreign (universal) cultural elements". It was observed that the elements of Turkish culture concentrated on the relation between daily life and interpersonal relations, and there was no balanced distribution among other cultural elements. Therefore, these books need to be reviewed so that they can raise cultural awareness of the students.

Orientation in space plays an essential role for a human being in the view of his / her life. Beginning from the ancient times, people explored space through horizontal and later vertical dimensions. This led to symbolization of objects that surrounded them. Complete reflection of symbols of space, in particular, horizontal and vertical symbols, is concisely traced in the fairy tale genre. Being one of the archaic forms of folklore, the fairy tale co-opted various elements of mythological beliefs of primitive people, their cognition and way of life, and later was supplemented by individual idiosyncratic elements of the world view. Symbols of both dimensions actualize primary (physical) and secondary meanings (which are also signified by evaluative, moral and ethical, as well as ecclesiastically religious meanings). The most frequently used vertical and horizontal symbols in the fairy tales are those actualized according to the “right” / “left” and “top” / “bottom” criteria. Despite relatively extended research in the field of fairy tale symbols, there are few studies which deal with the issue of conveying vertical and horizontal symbols into the target language. The aim of the article is to highlight the ways of rendering vertical and horizontal symbols taken from English and Ukrainian fairy tales, and to assess adequacy of their reproduction in the target language. According to the results of the research, it can be concluded that due to its universal character, the symbols of vertical and horizontal space are easily rendered into the receiving cultures. However, adequate reproduction of vertical and horizontal symbols requires identification of their role in a certain fairy tale text, and, consequently, the importance of their rendering into the target language.

This research discusses the method of translation by using the structural and semantic strategy of Japanese folk literature translated by Antonius Pudjo. There are three basic strategies related to structural issues, namely addition, subtraction, and transposition. As for the semantic strategy there are 9 strategies: levy, cultural equivalent, descriptive equivalent and component analysis, synonym, official translation, depreciation and expansion, addition, deletion, and modulation. This research is qualitative descriptive research. Research data is the translation of the story "Donguri and Kucing Hitam" in which using the structural and semantic strategy in the process of translation. Technique of collecting data is using documentation technique of read-record. While the technique of data analysis is done by analyzing one by one each translation from source language, then analyzed whether using structural or semantic strategy, and classified by type. From the 14 sentences taken as data, it is known that on the structural strategy found transposition strategy 6 sentences, semantic strategy found semantic strategy of adding and synonyming each 5 sentences, deletion 4 sentences, modulation 2 sentence, and levy 1 sentences. Of the 7 sentences used as data in uncovering the implicit meaning contained in the folklore, it is known that there is 1 referential meaning, 2 meanings of linguistic context, and 4 situational meanings. Not too much data is obtained, because besides the source language has made the sentences clearly, chances are also the translator wants the reader to enjoy the literary works as the original form. Antonius translation is good and the language is accepted by target language. Vegotesky theory is a paramount for the vocabulary development with its multidimensional approach, which has the impact on the cognitive affective contextual aspects and social interaction.Socio-cultural theory(SCT) is the mental development of specific sphere human. It also concerns mediation and the different kinds of mediation tools adopted and valued by society.This paper highlighted that learning as a mediated process in social in origin and then becomes individual as a result of linguistically mediated interaction between the child and more experienced members of the society including parents, teachers, and peers. The relation of mediation of SCT and environment is to enhance vocabulary development in teaching EFL students. It also helps EFL  students to use the target language in their daily life .With the help of this theory, the students can master vocabulary and improve their language.This theory focuses on the interaction with the students and shows the social environment. It links the learners with the trainer, if a child/student gets a guidance in an appropriate way he/she can learn more and can enhance his/her capacity of learning.This study tried to look at the influence of SCT on learning and teaching vocabulary. Consequently, This study recommends the use of the SCT while teaching EFL Libyan learners to enhance English language vocabulary.

The largest part of the time spent in our daily life communication is attributed to speaking. This skill allows the transmission of ideas, feelings, attitudes and information to the hearer through speech. It is in fact very crucial for any language learning efficiency development. However, expressing oneself orally sometimes constitutes a source of frustration for EFL learners as it is very demanding and requires the teachers’ intervention whenever errors are made. Therefore, with the perspective to promote the target language learning and assist students in their learning process, the strategies used by teachers to give their feedback about oral errors at the level of the language classroom constitutes the object of this study.

Tutur si waloh is  eight kinship terms in Karonese society. The functions of each kinship terms are different and they have their own responsibility. They are applied in daily life and cultural events. This study sought to explore the translation problems and its procedures in translating eight kinship terms in Karonese society into English. The study was conducted by using the qualitative research and the data obtained was analyzed by using translation and cultural analyses. The results reveal the absence of tutur si waloh in target language was the translation problems in this study. Newmark’s translation procedures were workable in translating them into English. The reseacher applied paraphrase, cultural equivalent, descriptive equivalent, transference and couplets  translation procedures.

Abstract In this article, I propose that, for several reasons, grammar should be an early focus of communication interventions for young children using augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems. The basic goals for such programs should be to facilitate the child's comprehension of the language of the community, or the target language, thus leading the way to literacy, and to foster the child's use of symbol combinations that mirror the grammatical patterns of speaking children acquiring the target language, even if they cannot be fully grammatically complete. I introduce five principles that underlie most successful approaches to grammar interventions with children with specific language impairment. My initial attempts to apply these principles to interventions with children with complex communication needs indicate that they may be of considerable value to clinicians planning intervention programs. On the other hand, the challenges posed by the intellectual and physical limitations of many AAC users and their communication systems make it necessary to modify at least Principle 5 if the basic goals of intervention are to be met.

Abstract Audiologists have a responsibility to counsel patients with auditory concerns on methods to manage the inherent challenges associated with hearing loss at every point in the process: evaluation, hearing aid fitting, and follow-up visits. Adolescents with hearing loss struggle with the typical developmental challenges along with communicative challenges that can erode one's self-esteem and self-worth. The feeling of “not being connected” to peers can result in feelings of isolation and depression. This article advocates the use of a Narrative Therapy approach to counseling adolescents with hearing loss. Adolescents with hearing loss often have problem-saturated narratives regarding various components of their daily life, friendships, amplification, academics, etc. Audiologists can work with adolescents with hearing loss to deconstruct the problem-saturated narratives and rebuild the narratives into a more empowering message. As the adolescent retells their positive narrative, they are likely to experience increased self-esteem and self-worth.

Abstract. Most research in health psychology is based on retrospective self reports, which are distorted by recall biases and have low ecological validity. To overcome such limitations we developed computer assisted diary approaches to assess health related behaviours in individuals’, couples’ and families’ daily life. The event- and time-sampling-based instruments serve to assess appraisals of the current situation, feelings of physical discomfort, current emotional states, conflict and emotion regulation in daily life. They have proved sufficient reliability and validity in the context of individual, couple and family research with respect to issues like emotion regulation and health. As examples: Regarding symptom reporting curvilinear pattern of frequencies over the day could be identified by parents and adolescents; or psychological well-being is associated with lower variability in basic affect dimensions. In addition, we report on preventive studies to improve parental skills and enhance their empathic competences towards their baby, and towards their partner.
