The objective: to study the degree of specific sensitization according to the results of intradermal immunodiagnostic tests in children with different manifestations of tuberculosis infection under the current epidemic situation.Subjects and Methods. The degree of tuberculin sensitization was studied in 299 children from different age groups (0-14 years old) who were registered for dispensary follow-up in 2018-2019.Based on the results of a tuberculosis recombinant allergen test (TRA), the degree of specific sensitization was studied in children with tuberculin tests conversion (n = 102) and infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) for 2 years or more (n = 165) exposed to tuberculous infection in their families and from healthy environment, and 145 patients under 14 years old with local respiratory tuberculosis.Results. Moderate sensitization to tuberculin predominated in children with converted tuberculin test exposed to tuberculous infection in their families and those from healthy environments. According to the results of TRA test, a high degree of sensitization was observed 4.7 times more frequently in children with tuberculin test conversion exposed to tuberculosis in their families. In children from healthy environments, negative responses to TRA test were registered 2.4 times more frequently. In 73% of children infected with MTB, results of annual Mantoux tests didn’t differ much. Hyperergic reactions to TRA test in infected children exposed to tuberculous infection were 10 times more frequent than in those from healthy environments. A direct correlation was found between the high degree of sensitization to active M. tuberculosis and exposure to a tuberculosis case with a positive result of sputum test (χ2 < 0.001, p < 0.05). In the case of converted tuberculin test and infection with M. tuberculosis for 2 years or more, pronounced and hyperergic reactions to TRA test were registered with equal frequency and did not depend on the timing and duration of infection. A high risk factor and predictor of the disease development is high sensitization of the host to active M. tuberculosis which is found in patients with tuberculosis using TRA test six times more frequently versus Mantoux test (OR 5.951, 95% CI 3.548 and 9.981). The demonstrated results are important for the identification of children facing a high risk to develop active tuberculosis and preventive treatment prescription.

The article characterizes respiratory tuberculosis in adolescents exposed to tuberculous infection. Exposure to tuberculosis in the family or when contacting close relatives makes the biggest contribution into development of the disease unless the patient is isolated from those exposed. Advanced and severe forms of tuberculosis with bacillary excretion are detected, compromising the life quality of adolescents. The main causes of late diagnostics are poor performance of TB services, primary medical units, low level of health education aimed at the increase of motivation to have planned medical examinations in the general population and to take relevant sanitary and hygienic measures in the sites of infection. Adolescents from the sites with bacillary excretion, and, first of all, if multiple or extensive drug resistant tuberculosis is detected, are to be considered a high priority group facing the risk to develop the disease with more frequent monitoring and deeper examination. In primary medical units, should any sings typical of tuberculosis be presented, it is sensible to add skin tests (Mantoux test and test with tuberculous recombinant allergen) to the minimum diagnostic procedures. Organizational, methodical and health education activities in the sites of infection are to be improved.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment of women with opportunistic vaginal infections during pregnancy. Materials and methods. A prospective cohort study included 330 pregnant women, of whom 151 were diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis (BV), 37 had aerobic vaginitis (AB), 109 had vulvovaginal candidiasis (VC), 20 had a combination of VC + BV. When carrying out antibiotic therapy in the early stages of pregnancy, the principle of local treatment was observed. Results. Most often (46.0%), vaginal infections were detected when women were treated early in pregnancy. In the treatment of BV in the early stages of pregnancy with antiseptic chlorhexidine, a positive result of therapy was noted in 97.6% of women. Therapy with metronidazole or clindamycin BV in women who applied in the II and III trimesters, gave a positive result, respectively, in 90.0% and 89.5% of cases. The course of therapy with chlorhexidine pregnant women with AB was effective in 91.7% of cases with treatment in the first trimester and 92.0% in treatment in the II and III trimesters. In the treatment of VC in early pregnancy, natamycin was effective in 95.0% of women. In the II and III trimesters, econazole treatment was successful in 88.2% and 88.6%, respectively. In the treatment of combination of BV + VC in early gestation, the complex course of chlorhexidine + natamycin was effective in 76.5% of women, in II and III trimesters Neo-Penotran Forte was effective in 93.8% of pregnant women. Relapses of vaginal infections were observed in 34 pregnant women (10.3%). Superinfection with fungi was noted in 9.3% of cases of BV treatment and in 8.1% of pregnant women with AB. Among women observed from early pregnancy, there were no cases of premature birth, manifestations of intrauterine infections were noted in 5.3% of newborns. At treatment in the II and III trimesters, premature birth was in 6.5% and 13.5% of women, and manifestations of intrauterine infections - in 15.3% of newborns. Thus, microbiological monitoring of timely detection and treatment of opportunistic vaginal infections in pregnant at-risk groups showed the advisability of treating these infections in early gestation.

Накопленный исторический опыт реализации принятых управленческих решений актуален и востребован в настоящее время. the article substantiates the objective need to change the management system of military education in the framework of military reform in the second half of the XIX century. The events were based on the achievements of Russian pedagogical thought and military pedagogy. It is emphasized that the complex of management decisions was theoretically justified, carried out consistently and progressively, until the necessary positive result was achieved. It would be impossible to solve these large–scale and complex tasks of optimizing the process of military education without increasing attention to the social and humanitarian disciplines taught in military educational institutions. The accumulated historical experience of implementing management decisions is relevant and may be in demand at the present time.

This study was designed to develop a modification of A-ELISA performed in microtitre plates. Nylon filters have been utilized successfully as a solid phase for the performance of A-ELISA. The use of nylon filters resulted in lower background than nitro-cellulose and paper filters, indicating their suitability as a solid phase for developing A-ELISA. With enteric viruses, human rotaviruses and MS-2 coliphage, negative results were obtained, suggesting high specificity of the developed technique for poliovirus 1. The sensitivity of the developed A-ELISA has been shown to be at least one order of magnitude greater than ordinary ELISA. A positive result with the nylon A-ELISA can be obtained with samples containing 100-1000 pfu/ml of poliovirus. Up to date methods used for detecting viruses in water are elaborate, time consuming and costly. Applying the nylon A-ELISA may overcome some of these disadvantages.

Objectives Feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and feline leukaemia virus (FeLV) are immunosuppressive viruses in cats that increase their susceptibility to zoonotic pathogens. This study aimed to determine the occurrence of one or both viruses, the risk factors associated with infection, and to develop further recommendations. Methods This was a cross-sectional study conducted at the Veterinary Faculty of Eduardo Mondlane University, Mozambique, between March and December 2017, in 145 cats. From each of 145 cats, we took 1.5 ml of blood by jugular puncture for detection of antibodies to FIV and FeLV antigens in whole blood using a commercial test kit, DFV Test FeLV/FIV. Results We found an overall prevalence of 11.0% and 14.5% for FIV antibodies and FeLV antigens, respectively, with four (2.8%) cats coinfected by both pathogens. Male cats were more likely to be infected with FIV (odds ratio [OR] 1.1, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.3–4.0) compared with female cats. Clinically ill cats were more likely to have a positive result for FeLV antigen infection (OR 18.8, 95% CI 5.2–68.3). Moreover, cats living in suburban areas have a greater chance of a positive result for FeLV infection (OR 3.7, 95% CI 1.4–9.6) compared with cats living in urban areas. Conclusions and relevance FIV and FeLV occur in cats from Maputo and possibly all over the country. Further studies should be conducted in Mozambique and other African countries to define the burden of both pathogens in cats, coinfection with other zoonotic pathogens and the possible role played by the cats on the transmission of zoonotic and opportunistic diseases to humans.

Current study investigated the occurrence of aflatoxin contamination in poultry feed and feed materials in different poultry farms and feed factories in Bangladesh. A total of 100 samples of finished feed and raw feed materials were collected and tested through direct competitive Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) for total aflatoxin detection. Overall, 97% samples (n=97/100) in our study, were found positive for aflatoxin contamination. Among finished feed categories, layer grower feed contained highest level of aflatoxin with a mean value of 21.64 ppb whereas layer feed was less susceptible for aflatoxin contamination (mean value 9.49 ppb). Between raw feed materials, maize samples were highly contaminated (n=15/15, 100%) with aflatoxin while 86.67% soybean samples showed positive result. Twenty one percent (21%) of the samples in our study contained aflatoxin concentration more than the acceptable limit employed by USFDA and many other countries which might pose severe health risk to poultry and human consumer. Proper surveillance and immediate control measures should be taken to ensure safe poultry feed and feed materials. Bangladesh J Microbiol, Volume 35 Number 1 June 2018, pp 75-78
