Floor plate is a structure on two-story buildings or more. Like other structures, floor plate also develops over time. Demands a shorter time jobs at a cheaper cost are some reasons for structures development of house construction. Floor plate can be constructed with two different way: conventional which uses double wire meshand modern uses half slab. The purpose of this study is to determine which floor plate construction methods of double wire mesh and half slab is more efficient in terms of cost and time. The study is conducted using survey, comparative analysis and literature study. The results of this study indicate that both methods have advantages and disadvantages. Double wire mesh method takes cheaper construction costs while half slab method takes faster construction time.

Population growth in a number of central European cities necessitates the creation of additional living spaces within the existing urban settings. Toward this end, densification via rooftop extension of existing buildings can provide a partial solution. As the requirements regarding energy performance, summer-time thermal comfort, and structural integrity of attic expansions have been increasingly tightened, planners must carefully assess the advantages and disadvantages of different construction possibilities. Focusing specifically on timber construction as a kind of reference, the present contribution includes a comparison of six different (both conventional and novel) construction solutions for roof top extensions in view of different performance criteria, such as ecological footprint, impact on energy indicators, summer overheating mitigation, cost, and construction time. To conduct the comparison in a transparent manner, the selected construction methods were virtually applied to a case-study building and assessed via multiple tools, including a numeric thermal simulation application.

Recent archaeological efforts to explain the emergence and persistence of social inequality have been hampered by little information about how wealth was transmitted across generations, and how it may have accumulated or diminished over time. Building on studies that have shown domestic architecture to be an excellent material expression of household wealth, we provide a method for reconstructing the amount of labor invested in house construction among the Hohokam of southern Arizona. We also account for different architectural styles from different time periods. To illustrate the utility of the method for addressing broader social issues, we investigate the relationship among population increases, resource shortages, and wealth differentials at Pueblo Grande—one of the preeminent settlements in the Hohokam region. Inequality at Pueblo Grande was tracked over time and compared to similar results at the Grewe site. High-status households at both sites were distinguished architecturally by larger and, in some instances, more elaborate houses. The proximity of these households to public areas for ceremonial expression further suggests that access to ritual played a key role in creating and maintaining inequality in Hohokam society.

Preservation of library materials or library collections is an effort made so that library materials can be used by future generations. This paper describes the "Malaysian" binding method used by the Sub Division of Technical Binding Materials of the National Library of Indonesia in preserving the collection of periodicals such as tabloids and newspapers. Apart from that, this paper also describes some of the advantages and disadvantages seen in the use of the "Malaysian" method as well as the early history of using this method in preserving the collection of periodicals in the National Library of Indonesia. This writing aims to make readers, especially library managers, know and gain insight into the "Malaysian" binding method. This writing method is through descriptive research with a qualitative approach. Methods of data collection are carried out through the field research, interviews, and literature study. The results show that the National Library of Indonesia uses this method after studying it from Malaysia in May 1990. From observations it is also known that this method has several advantages, namely the binding result is stronger, the collection is more preserved, the binding can be assembled and has an aesthetic side. Meanwhile, the disadvantages of this binding method are that the process tends to be longer, more expensive, cannot be put on too many shelves because the collection will shift backwards, the pages tend to come off easily if the stitches are not strong enough, and can only be used in binding periodical collections.

The construction industry, traditionally considered quite conservative, is now going through a marked change. With competition intensifying, companies have begun to gradually adopt various digital technologies to reduce construction costs, such as the wireless concrete monitoring sensors, which implement a temperature-strength monitoring method for concrete. Each device has its technological features, which are considered in the development of the concepts. Enclosure design is the most important stage of product development. An enclosure made in-house has many advantages and disadvantages. The most important part of the design of an electronic device enclosure is the preliminary research stage. This article presents features of wireless monitoring sensor enclosure design. A data acquisition station (DAS), also referred to in the network topology as a “gateway”, will be used to collect data from the wireless monitoring sensor over the selected protocol. The server application was created based on HTML, PHP, CSS, JavaScript. Testing of the wireless monitoring sensor, SDS, and the server application working together showed full functionality. A study is also given on the determination of concrete strength using the developed sensor according to the ASTM method and using the IPS MG 4.0 by GOST.

People in Jambi city assume that Pasar Hong Kong, a traditional market located in Jelutung sub-district, is “a Chinese market”, even some areas in the city of Jambi such as Jelutung, Koni, and Talang Banjar are dominated by the ethnic of Chinese. This research aims to explore how social inequality that occurs due to the advantages and disadvantages of an ethnic group so that it can affect individual attitudes that damage social capital. This research uses a case study approach with in-depth interviews and literature study as data collection techniques. The subjects of this study were ethnic Malay and Chinese female merchants in Pasar Hong Kong, Jambi city, Indonesia. This research found that social inequalities that occur among the female merchants of ethnic Malay and Chinese in Pasar Hongkong occur naturally, where both merchants and buyers have a high tolerance when interacting. Although sometimes there are differences in attitude when the merchants serve different ethnic buyers. The involvement of traditional leaders in managing social inequalities is very important due to the lack of assimilation among ethnic Malay and Chinese.

In order to ensure the cage directed motion, vertical shafts are reinforced with the shaft equipment of various designs: rigid, flexible, with no buntons, rope-profile. In this research, different existing design schemes of the shaft equipment, their advantages and disadvantages, design solutions with the rope-profile guides and discrete step of the shaft equipment installation between the tiers in the point of the cages meeting are considered and studied. Designing, research and installation of discrete reinforcing equipment with the rope-profile guides in the shafts in the point of the cages meeting can significantly diminish disadvantages of the existing (rigid and flexible) reinforcing equipment and can facilitate: to reduce the number of tiers arranged along the full depth of the shaft; to prolong trouble-free life; to cut capital construction costs due to less diameter of the shaft (for flexible shaft equipment); to make maintenance and repair essentially simpler; to reduce significantly metal content of the shaft equipment as compared to rigid shaft equipment; to reduce dynamic vibrations of the “cage-shaft equipment” system; to improve damping properties of the shaft equipment; to reduce the shaft aerodynamic resistance to the level of flexible shaft equipment; to improve reliability and safety of the shaft equipment operation; to eliminate the need to use balance ropes; to prolong life of the rope-profile guides to the level of rigid guides. The research and development of these structures and schemes are resulted in: improved reliability and durability of vertical shaft equipment and increased profitability of minerals extraction from deeper horizons. Introduction of the schemes with discrete step of reinforcing equipment installation in the point of cages meeting (in the middle of the shaft) for different locations of the tiers will significantly improve safety of vertical shaft equipment operation and the hoisting complex as a whole.

Herein, we suggest a wire mesh method to classify the particle shape of large amounts of aggregate. This method is controlled by the tilting angle and opening size of the wire mesh. The more rounded the aggregate particles, the more they roll on the tilted wire mesh. Three different sizes of aggregate: 11–15, 17–32, and 33–51 mm were used for assessing their roundness after classification using the sphericity index into rounded, sub-rounded/sub-angular, and angular. The aggregate particles with different sphericities were colored differently and then used for classification via the wire mesh method. The opening sizes of the wire mesh were 6, 11, and 17 mm and its frame was 0.5 m wide and 1.8 m long. The ratio of aggregate size to mesh-opening size was between 0.6 and 8.5. The wire mesh was inclined at various angles of 10°, 15°, 20°, 25°, and 30° to evaluate the rolling degree of the aggregates. The aggregates were rolled and remained on the wire mesh between 0.0–0.6, 0.6–1.2, and 1.2–1.8 m depending on their sphericity. A tilting angle of 25° was the most suitable angle for classifying aggregate size ranging from 11–15 mm, while the most suitable angle for aggregate sizes of 17–32 and 33–51 mm was 20°. The best ratio for the average aggregate size to mesh-opening size for aggregate roundness classification was 2.

It is believed that warranty contracting would benefit state highway agencies by improving quality, saving money and time, and encouraging contractors' innovations. However, the challenges associated with warranties could be substantial, including higher costs, early failures, a reduction or even elimination of small contractors from the bidding process, and an increase in contract disputes and litigation. The actual impact of warranty provisions on state Department of Transportation (DOT) projects in the United States of America is still unclear because of limited industry experience. This paper provides a detailed discussion of warranty provisions and the benefits and problems associated with the subject matter. The advantages and disadvantages of warranty provisions are evaluated from the conflicting perspectives of state Departments of Transportation (DOTs), contractors, and surety companies. The future prospects of warranty provisions are established based on the findings of a recent study of warranty provisions and existing literature. Also, several options are proposed that have a strong potential to improve the application of warranties on DOT projects.Key words: warranties, highway construction, innovation, highway maintenance, contract administration, construction costs, construction inspection.

A coal-fired turbocharged boiler using fluidized bed combustion at high pressure would be more compact than a pulverized coal fired boiler. The smaller boiler size could permit the utility industry to adopt efficient modular construction methods now widely used in other industries. A commercial turbocharger of the capacity needed to run a 250 MWe power plant doe not exist; commercial gas turbines of the correct capacity exist, but they are not matched to this cycle’s gas temperature of less than 538°C (1000°F). In order to avoid impeding the development of the technology, it will probably be desirable to use existing machines to the maximum extent possible. This paper explores the advantages and disadvantages of applying either standard gas turbines or modified standard gas turbines to the turbocharged boiler.
