Family as the basic social unit is the primary environment of the development of an individual. In the family setting an individual satisfies (or should satisfy) the basic human needs such as the need for safety and love. In the studies of patterns of unadapted behavior of children and adolescents, temperament is most often stated as the key human characteristic feature that is the most important predictor in the development of unadapted and antisocial forms of behavior. The survey of dispositional empirically identified and inheritance-determined characteristics has been described in detail by Eysenck’s dimensional model of personality through mutually orthogonal and bipolar characteristics: Neuroticism, Extraversion and Psychoticism. The formation of these dispositional characteristics is closely related to parents’ sensitivity to child’s needs and the level of parents’ engagement in their parental role. Therefore, the aim of this research was to examine to what extent the assessment of the quality of the relationship with parents is an important predictor for explaining the basic dimensions of adolescents’ personalities. The research was conducted on an appropriate sample of 135 adolescents, students of the Faculty of Philosophy in Tuzla. The results confirm that the aspects of negative relationships with mother and father are important predictors for explaining dimensions of Neuroticism and Psychoticism, which are very significant correlations of unadapted and antisocial behavior. Also, the results indicate less significant importance of positive relations with mother and father for explaining dependent research variables since it is presumed that positive relations act more as a protective factor whereas the assessment of negative relationships with parents is certainly more important, especially for the dimensions related to bad adaptation of adolescents. The results also indicate equal importance of mother and father in the upbringing process for explaining the basic personality dimensions of adolescents since negative relationships with both mother and father appear as equally important predictors for explaining the dimensions of Neuroticism and Psychoticism in adolescents.

AbstractAlzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia. The aim of this study was to determine thedependence between the quality of the caregiver-patient relationship and the psychological costs the caregiver bearsduring the caregiving period. This study encompassed 292 caregivers (104 partners, 117 children and 71 friends or otherspersons). The study indicated the greatest level of depression and caregiving-related burdens in the spouses group, and the leastin the friends/others group. The most important predictor of the level of burden in the caregiving role turned out to bethe nature of the caregiver-patient relationship; however, a varying set of the significance of individual elements of thisrelationship were indicated in different caregiver groups.

Purpose: Hope has been identified as a protective factor that contributes to achieving a better quality to life, especially in patients with chronic disease. The purpose of this review was to synthesize current knowledge about the relationship between hope and quality of life among adolescents living with chronic illnesses. Methods: We searched major English-language databases (PsycINFO, PubMed, and CINAHL) for studies from January 1, 2002 to July 12, 2019. Studies were included if they provided data on hope and its relationship with quality of life among adolescents with chronic diseases. Results: In total, five articles were selected from the 336 studies that were retrieved. All five studies reported a positive correlation between hope and quality of life, such that people with a higher level of hope had a better quality of life. Hope was found to have direct and indirect effects on quality of life in adolescents with chronic diseases. Conclusion: Healthcare professionals should make more efforts to enhance hope in adolescents with chronic diseases in order to improve their quality of life. Future studies exploring how hope develops in adolescents with chronic diseases and the long-term impact of hope on quality of life are necessary.

Abstract Background: Steroid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is aseptic necrosis of the femoral head caused by glucocorticoid use. Once necrotic femoral head necrosis occurs, it irreversibly affects the quality of life seriously. Studies have shown that the susceptibility to steroid-induced ONFH is likely to be related to the variation of miRNA coding genes. Therefore, this study aimed was to investigate the effect of MIR3142HG on steroid-induced ONFH.Methods: Agena MassARRAY was used to genotype MIR3142HG gene rs1582417, rs2431689, rs7727155 and rs17057846 in 199 patients and 506 healthy people. A genetic model and haplotype analysis were used to evaluate the relationship between the MIR3142HG polymorphism and the risk of steroid-induced ONFH. The odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were obtained through logistic regression to assess the influence of gene polymorphisms on the occurrence of steroid-induced ONFH.Results: The consequences show that rs7727115(OR=0.76,p=0.036) is a protective factor, it could reduce the risk of steroid-induced ONFH, rs1582417(OR=1.28, p=0.041) could increase the risk of steroid-induced ONFH. Stratified analysis , according to each clinical index shows that MIR3142HG TC-CC genotype facilitated the risk of steroid-induced ONFH in male ( p<0.05). In addition, rs2431689 is related to HDL-C(p=0.012) and ApoA1 (p=0.010) levels, and rs17057846 (p=0.024) is related to ApoB levels. The linkage analysis indicated that three SNPs (rs2431689, rs7727115 and rs17057846) in MIR3142HG with significant chain imbalance. In addition, haplotype “GGG” of MIR3142HG was found out is harmful for steroid-induced ONFH.Conclusion: Our results firstly confirm that the genetic polymorphism of MIR3142HG is associated with steroid-induced ONFH susceptibility in Chinese Han population.

Aim: To examine the relationship between the quality of family interactions and test anxiety and depression in a sample of 4th and 7th grade primary school pupils. Methods: The Scale of Depression for Children and Adolescents (SDCA, Vulić Prtorić, 2003a), The Subscale for Test Anxiety (STA, Vulić Prtorić, 2004a), and Scale of Interaction Quality within the Family (SIQF, Vulić Prtorić, 2004b) were used. Results: Older pupils were generally more depressed and anxious compared to the younger ones. However, the increase in depression was observed only in female pupils, whereas in male pupils, the levels of depression were generally stable, regardless of age. A similar pattern was found in test anxiety. Overall satisfaction with family, as well as the quality of interactions with mother and father was higher in fourth graders, compared to seventh graders. Female pupils assessed their mothers as more accepting, whereas male pupils assessed their fathers as more accepting than girls did. Maternal rejection was independent of gender, but paternal rejection was more prominent in boys, compared to girls. Higher maternal rejection and lower paternal acceptance were shown to be significant predictors for both depression and test anxiety. Conclusion: Results confirmed our hypothesis that early-adolescents, as well as girls, have more pronounced depressive and test-anxiety symptoms, when compared to younger children and boys. (Pre)-adolescents’ perceptions of family dynamics have an important role in explaining depressiveness and test anxiety, which implies their value in prevention of mental health problems in (pre)adolescents.

A total of 258 children aged 4-7 years, from 192 families of diverse structure (stepfather, single parent, stepmother/complex stepfamilies, and nonstep families), participated in this study of young children’s perceptions of their family relationships. Children completed a Four Field Map, in which they placed their family members and friends in a series of concentric circles representing the closeness of the relationship. Biological relatedness and family type affected the placement of fathers, but not mothers or siblings; children in stepfather families were more likely to place their stepfathers as “not close”. Links were found between the quality of child-mother and child-sibling relationships and the closeness of children’s friendships. Children’s externalising problems were related to their perceptions of their relationships with fathers and their prosocial behaviour to their closeness with both fathers and mothers.

A high quality of life (QoL), an individual’s subjective assessment of overall life condition, has been shown to have a protective effect against negative behaviors. However, whether QoL protects people from the harmful impact of health rumors is still unknown. In this study, a national survey in China (n = 3633) was conducted to explore the relationship between health rumor belief (HRB) and QoL, which includes physical, psychological, social, and environmental domains. The results show that people with a poor perception of their physical health are more likely to believe health rumors. Additionally, those who had better self-reported satisfaction in social relationships were more susceptible to health rumors. Furthermore, women and older adults showed a greater belief in health rumors. This study expands upon our understanding of how people with different QoL levels interact with false health-related information. Based on health-rumor-susceptible groups, several essential online and offline strategies to govern health rumors are also proposed.

This paper examines the association between media reporting on suicides and the subsequent suicides. Scientific papers from two online bibliographic sources Medline (PubMed) and PsycINFO were searched. The sample included 108 research papers examining the impact of different types of media stories on suicides. The review revealed that although the media can be a double-edged sword and serve both as a risk and a protective factor, the vast majority of research suggests that the relationship between the media reporting and the actual suicide rates is causal and real. Moreover, both the quantity and the quality of media reporting may trigger additional suicides in society. Simultaneously, research suggests that especially non-fictional presentations of celebrities’ suicides in newspapers and on television news have the biggest influence on the subsequent suicides. Additionally, a strong modelling effect of media reporting on suicide is based on nationality, age, and gender. However, research shows that because a negative reporting style can be modifiable and improved, the media can also have an educative or preventive effect and can reduce the risk of contagion. Consequently, it is important to monitor the implementation of media recommendations for the reporting of suicide, and continuous education of reporters is needed.

Background: Sleep quality and depression are two reciprocal causation socioemotional factors and their roles in the relationship between physical exercise and cognition are still unclear. Methods: A face-to-face survey of 3230 older adults aged 60+ was conducted in Xiamen, China, in 2016. Frequency of exercise (FOE) referred to the number of days of exercise per week. Quality of sleep (QOS) was categorized into five levels: very poor/poor/fair/good/excellent. The 15-item Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15) and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) were used to measure depression (DEP) and cognitive function (CF), respectively. Serial multiple mediator models were used. All mediation analyses were analyzed using the SPSS PROCESS macro. Results: 2469 respondents had valid data with mean scores for GDS-15 and MoCA being 1.87 and 21.61, respectively. The direct path from FOE to CF was significant (c’= 0.20, p < 0.001). A higher FOE was associated with better QOS (B = 0.04, p < 0.01), which in turn was associated with fewer symptoms of DEP (B = −0.40, p < 0.001), and further contributed to better CF (B = −0.24, p < 0.001). Similarly, a higher FOE was associated with lower GDS-15 scores (B = −0.17, p < 0.001) which then resulted in higher MoCA scores (B = −0.24, p < 0.001). However, QOS alone did not alter the relationship between FOE and CF. Conclusions: FOE is a protective factor of CF in older adults. Moreover, CF is influenced by QOS through DEP, without which the working path may disappear.
