Introduction. Neuroblastoma (NB) in children is a rare disease, accounting for 7 % of all cases of oncological diseases in childhood. In this regard, epidemiological analysis requires the accumulation of data over a long period of time. The purpose of the study is to study the morbidity, mortality and survival rate of children 0–14 years old with NB in the Republic of Belarus (RB).Materials and methods. Based on the data from the children’s cancer subregister, morbidity, mortality and survival rates in child population were calculated from 1997 to 2017. A comparative epidemiological analysis was carried out in 2 time periods (1997–2007, 2008–2017).Results and discussion. The incidence rate of NB in the RB, standardized for age, was 1.142 ± 0.062 per 100 000 child population with an average annual growth rate of 3.2 % per year. The mortality rate for this period was 0.32 ± 0.03 per 100 000 child population, an increase of 0.51 % per year. The main cause of death in patients with NB is the recurrence of the underlying disease. In 2008, a single protocol was used to treat all risk groups, which led to a significant increase in the observed population survival rate from 56 % (1997–2007) to 72 % (2008–2017) (p = 0.0041). Comparing the age structure of morbidity in Germany and the RB, it is noted that we have a reliably later diagnosis of the disease in the age categories from 0 to 1 year, from 1 to 4 years, from 5 to 9 years. The median age of the patient at the time of diagnosis in Germany is 1 year and 2 months, in our country 1 year and 6 months.Conclusion. Indicators of standardized morbidity and mortality from NB in the RB correspond to the indicators of cancer registries in Western Europe and the USA. However, analyzing the age of the specific incidence of the disease, insufficient diagnosis of the disease is noted in the periods from 0 to 1 year, from 1 to 4 years and from 5 to 9 years compared to the data in Germany. This requires further improvement of the pediatric oncology service in the country.

Actuality of problem. Analysis of observed and relative survival is related to important criteria for evaluation of cancer control at the population-based level covering all patients on the administrative territory as well as the group of treated patients. Comparison of the effectiveness of treatment of patients in different countries allows revealing more adequate methods of complex anti-cancer activities. In this paper such study was carried out with respect to colon cancer according to population-based cancer registries of the Republic of Belarus and St. Petersburg. Purpose of study is to compare dynamics of observed and relative survival rates in colon cancer patients in the Republic of Belarus and St. Petersburg. Materials and methods. In the basis of the study there were taken databases of population-based cancer registries of the Republic of Belarus and St. Petersburg and also there was used standard methodology by constructing expectancy tables and estimating the significance of differences in rates. Analysis of obtained data. There was performed in-depth comparative analysis of dynamics of survival rates by sex, age and histological tumor types. Conclusion. Conducted comparative study of survival colon cancer patients in the Republic of Belarus and St. Petersburg showed significant growth of rates however relative survival in Europe was much higher than in the Republic of Belarus and western regions of Russia.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the response to endoscopic treatment and treatment outcomes in patients with rhino-orbito-sinusal mucormycosis. In this descriptive cross-sectional study, 19 patients with rhino-orbito-sinusal mucormycosis were involved. Data such as age, gender, the 6-month survival rate of the patients, type of underlying disease, site of involvement, number of endoscopic procedures, history of exenterating of the eye, type of received systemic treatments, and the time interval between the onset of symptoms and the start of treatment were recorded and analyzed. The 6-month outcome analysis showed that 10 out of 19 patients (58.8%) survived. The results also revealed no significant difference in the 6-month survival rate according to parameters such as gender, underlying disease (57.9% of the patients had diabetes and 42.1% had cancer), age, delay in surgery, site of involvement, and the number of surgeries (P>0.05). However, there was a significant difference in the 6-month survival rates of patients with respect to exenterating of the eye (P<0.05). According to our results, uncontrolled diabetes is the most common underlying cause of rhino-orbito-sinusal mucormycosis. It also seems that exenterating of the eye affects the survival rate of patients. This study suggests that timely and early diagnosis as well as correct treatment, endoscopic procedure, if possible, play an important role in the prognosis of the disease and can greatly reduce the mortality rate.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the survival rate according to the main findings of emergency electroencephalography (EEGs) of patients treated in a tertiary hospital. METHOD: In this prospective study, the findings of consecutive emergency EEGs performed on inpatients in Hospital de Base in São José do Rio Preto, Brazil were correlated with survival utilizing Kaplan-Meyer survival curves. RESULTS: A total of 681 patients with an average age of 42 years old (1 day to 96 years) were evaluated, of which 406 were male. The main reasons for EEGs were epileptic seizures (221 cases), hepatic encephalopathy [116 cases of which 85 (73.3%) were men, p-value=0.001], status epilepticus (104 cases) and impaired consciousness (78 cases). The underlying disease was confirmed in 578 (84.3%) cases with 119 (17.5%) having liver disease [91 (76.0%) were men, p-value=0.001], 105 (15.4%) suffering strokes, 67 (9.9%) having metabolic disorders, 51 (7.5%) central nervous system infections and 49 (7.2%) epilepsy. In the three months following EEG, a survival rate of 75% was found in patients with normal, discreet slow activity or intermittent rhythmic delta activity EEGs, of 50% for those with continuous delta activity and generalized epileptiform discharges, and of 25% for those with burst-suppression, diffuse depression, and in alpha/theta-pattern coma. Death was pronounced immediately in patients with isoelectric EEGs. CONCLUSION: The main findings of EEGs, differentiated different survival rates and are thus a good prognostic tool for patients examined in emergencies.

Introduction: Cancer of the cervix, uterine body and ovary together with cancer of the breast account more the 1/3 female’s cancer cases in the Republic of Srpska. Cancer of the cervix, uterine body and ovary are responsible for 13.82% cancer death females, and the leading cause of cancer death females is cancer of the ovary (5.62%). Sources and methods: Mediana age diagnosed new cases of the cervix cancer is 47 years and uterin body and ovary the median age is in sixties. Relationship beetwen age-standardized rate prevalence (world) and age-standardized rate incidence cancer of the cervix, uterin body and ovary and confirm that high rate of incidence determines high rate of prevalence, this correlation is positive and relationship statistical significant (p<0.01). Relative five years survival rates of the cervix and uterin body cancer are over 80% and cancer of the ovary have almost 2.5 times lower relative five years survival rate.

The article presents the results of a retrospective epidemiological analysis of the incidence of typhoid fever in the Kyrgyz Republic and the results of a survey aimed at studying the immune status of the population. It was found that despite the emerging trend of reducing the incidence of typhoid fever, this problem in Kyrgyzstan remains extremely relevant due to high rates that significantly exceed those of developed countries. The leading route of transmission of typhoid fever in the Kyrgyz Republic is water, and the territories at risk are the southern regions of the Republic. A permanent epidemic focus of typhoid fever has been identified in the Jalal-Abad region, where radiation remains an additional factor of negative impact on the population of Mailuu-Suu over the past thirty years against the background of low availability of high-quality drinking water. The effect of the radiation factor is associated with the development of immunological insufficiency, which creates the basis for the formation of risk groups for infectious diseases, including typhoid fever.

Relevance. Prostate cancer (PCa) is the second most common disorder in the male population. According to some authors, prostate cancer is the most commonly defined type of malignant tumor in men. In 2012, the number of men with prostate cancer worldwide reached 1.1 million, which is 15% of all male malignancies. Objective: to assess the survival rates of patients with prostate cancer in the Samara Region over the period 20102014 taking into consideration their age and the given treatment. Materials and methods. 5220 patients with prostate cancer were identified through 20102014. Of these, 4393 people (84.2%) were urban residents, 827 were from rural areas (15.8%). The average age of the subjects was 69.8 years. Results. Analysis of age distribution demonstrated that the largest group consisted of men aged 65-74 years which is 40.7% (2126 patients). It was found that with increasing age, there was a decrease in both HB and CO. Due to the increase in the number of comorbid diseases with the increase of age the observed survival rate appeared significantly lower than the adjusted one. Radical prostatectomy (RP) resulted in high rates of 5-year adjusted survival. Similar results were obtained in the combination of surgical treatment and drug (hormonal) and radiation treatment. Combining RP with radiation or hormone therapy can be used as a multimodal treatment for high and very high risk PCa. In some patients, radiotherapy was included in the treatment regimen, and it proved its effectiveness. Orchiectomy was often used in patients with advanced prostate cancer. However survival rate became less (53.5%). Conclusion. By analyzing survival rates, it is possible to improve the organization of anticancer control by identifying risk groups for the development of the disease, choosing the optimal methods of treatment and their individualization.

This paper considers the printing of Pacioli's Summa de Arithmetica, Geometria, Proportioni et Proportionalita (Summa) in 1494. In particular, it attempts to answer the question, how many copies of Summa were printed in 1494? It does so through consideration of the printing process, the printer of Summa, the size of the book, survival rates of other “serious” books of the period, and the dates it contains revealing when parts of it were completed. It finds that more copies were published than was previously suggested, and that the survival rate of copies has probably as much to do with the manner in which it was treated once acquired as in the number of copies printed.

Transnational Patriotism in the Mediterranean, 1800–1850: Stammering the Nation investigates the long process of transition from a world of empires to a world of nation-states by narrating the biographies of a group of people who were born within empires but came of age surrounded by the emerging vocabulary of nationalism, much of which they themselves created. It is the story of a generation of intellectuals and political thinkers from the Ionian Islands who experienced the collapse of the Republic of Venice and the dissolution of the common cultural and political space of the Adriatic, and who contributed to the creation of Italian and Greek nationalisms. By uncovering this forgotten intellectual universe, Transnational Patriotism in the Mediterranean retrieves a world characterized by multiple cultural, intellectual, and political affiliations that have since been buried by the conventional narrative of the formation of nation-states. The book rethinks the origins of Italian and Greek nationalisms and states, highlighting the intellectual connection between the Italian peninsula, Greece, and Russia, and re-establishing the lost link between the changing geopolitical contexts of western Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Balkans in the Age of Revolutions. It re-inscribes important intellectuals and political figures, considered ‘national fathers’ of Italy and Greece (such as Ugo Foscolo, Dionysios Solomos, Ioannis Kapodistrias, and Niccolò Tommaseo), into their regional and multicultural context, and shows how nations emerged from an intermingling, rather than a clash, of ideas concerning empire and liberalism, Enlightenment and religion, revolution and conservatism, and East and West.

Abstract Background Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) has been categorized based on tumor location as intrahepatic (ICCA), perihilar (PCCA) or distal (DCCA), and based on the morphology of the tumor of the bile duct as mass forming (MF), periductal infiltrating (PI) or intraductal (ID). To date, there is limited evidence available regarding the survival of CCA among these different anatomical and morphological classifications. This study aimed to evaluate the survival rate and median survival time after curative surgery among CCA patients according to their anatomical and morphological classifications, and to determine the association between these classifications and survival. Methods This study included CCA patients who underwent curative surgery from the Cholangiocarcinoma Screening and Care Program (CASCAP), Northeast Thailand. The anatomical and morphological classifications were based on pathological findings after surgery. Survival rates of CCA and median survival time since the date of CCA surgery and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated. Multiple cox regression was performed to evaluate factors associated with survival which were quantified by hazard ratios (HR) and their 95% CIs. Results Of the 746 CCA patients, 514 had died at the completion of the study which constituted 15,643.6 person-months of data recordings. The incidence rate was 3.3 per 100 patients per month (95% CI: 3.0–3.6), with median survival time of 17.8 months (95% CI: 15.4–20.2), and 5-year survival rate of 24.6% (95% CI: 20.7–28.6). The longest median survival time was 21.8 months (95% CI: 16.3–27.3) while the highest 5-year survival rate of 34.8% (95% CI: 23.8–46.0) occurred in the DCCA group. A combination of anatomical and morphological classifications, PCCA+ID, was associated with the longest median survival time of 40.5 months (95% CI: 17.9–63.0) and the highest 5-year survival rate of 42.6% (95% CI: 25.4–58.9). The ICCA+MF combination was associated with survival (adjusted HR: 1.45; 95% CI: 1.01–2.09; P = 0.013) compared to ICCA+ID patients. Conclusions Among patients receiving surgical treatment, those with PCCA+ID had the highest 5-year survival rate, which was higher than in groups classified by only anatomical characteristics. Additionally, the patients with ICCA+MF tended to have unfavorable surgical outcomes. Showed the highest survival association. Therefore, further investigations into CCA imaging should focus on patients with a combination of anatomical and morphological classifications.

Abstract Background Few large-sample studies in China have focused on the early survival of dental implants. The present study aimed to report the early survival rates of implants and determine the related influencing factors. Methods All patients receiving dental implants at our institution between 2006 and 2017 were included. The endpoint of the study was early survival rates of implants, according to gender, age, maxilla/mandible, dental position, bone augmentation, bone augmentation category, immediate implant, submerged implant category, implant diameter, implant length, implant torque, and other related factors. Initially, SPSS22.0 was used for statistical analysis. The Chi-square test was used to screen all factors, and those with p < 0.05 were further introduced into a multiple logistic regression model to illustrate the risk factors for early survival rates of implants. Results In this study, we included 1078 cases (601 males and 477 females) with 2053 implants. After implantation, 1974 implants were retained, and the early survival rate was 96.15%. Patients aged 30–60 years (OR  2.392), with Class I bone quality (OR  3.689), bone augmentation (OR  1.742), immediate implantation (OR  3.509), and implant length < 10 mm (OR  2.972), were said to possess risk factors conducive to early survival rates. Conclusions The early survival rate of implants in our cohort exceeded 96%, with risk factors including age, tooth position, bone quality, implant length, bone augmentation surgery, and immediate implantation. When the above factors coexist, implant placement should be treated carefully.
