The propeller shaft of rear-wheel drive vehicle transfers power from the engine to rear wheels through the differential gear box. Generally the propeller shaft has a two-piece steel structure of more than 10kg of weight. In this paper, we designed the one-piece hybrid propeller shaft using the aluminum, carbon fiber composite material and glass fiber composite material. Research on the adhesive strength of the hybrid propeller shaft with respect to roughness of aluminum surface was conducted. The one piece hybrid propeller shaft satisfying the performance standards of propeller shaft such as statistic torsion torque strength and first bending natural frequency was manufactured. The manufactured hybrid shaft was assembled with the suitable connecting parts and analyzed for performance verification. This hybrid propeller shaft satisfies all performance standards of propeller shaft for automobile application. The hybrid shaft has vibration characteristics of 237Hz significantly higher than the standard characteristic of 150Hz of the existing two-piece steel structure propeller shaft.

This study investigates the effect of eccentric compressive load on the stability, critical states and load-carrying capacity of thin-walled composite Z-profiles. Short thin-walled columns made of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic composite material fabricated by the autoclave technique are examined. In experimental tests, the thin-walled structures were compressed until a loss of their load-carrying capacity was obtained. The test parameters were measured to describe the structure’s behavior, including the phenomenon of composite material failure. The post-critical load-displacement equilibrium paths and the acoustic emission signal enabling analysis of the composite material condition during the loading process were measured. The scope of the study also included performing numerical simulations by finite element method to solve the problem of non-linear stability and to describe the phenomenon of composite material damage based on the progressive failure model. The obtained numerical results showed a good agreement with the experimental characteristics of real structures. The numerical results are compared with the experimental findings to validate the developed numerical model.

This study aims to develop a new wood-plastic composite (WPC) material from recycled thermoplasctics. The recycled low-density polyethylene (rLDPE) and high-density polyethylene (rHDPE) were used as matrix, whereas the diatomaceous earth waste (D) and wood fiber (WF) as filler. Recycled-LDPE and rHDPE were recovered and pelletized by a plastic recycling process. The 10-30wt.% diatomaceous earth waste was heat-treated at 200°C to remove impurities. The diatomaceous earth, maleic anhydride grafted polyethylene (MAPE), CaCO3, slip agent, antioxidants and WF were then mixed at 160°C, for 10 minutes, at stirring speed 50 rpm to produce wood-plastic composite material. The mechanical strength and thermal properties of the composites were investigated. The composite containing D and rLDPE results in an increase the hardness of the material which is higher than that of the virgin-LDPE. The tensile and impact strengths of the composite material prepared by rLDPE and D were higher than those of the rHDPE composite material. It is found that LDPE has excellent fluidity, which is helpful for subsequent processing. In addition, the diatomaceous earth waste can be used to reduce the cost of the raw material, and the product has both effects of environmental protection and marketability.

This chapter outlines the visions for the intentionally transformative missions—or “Christian Worldviews”—of newly created Christian conservative law schools and training programs. It gives detailed institutional histories of Regent Law School, Liberty Law School, Ave Maria School of Law, and Alliance Defending Freedom’s Blackstone Legal Fellowship. The chapter also previews some of the constraints and challenges these institutions faced initially (and continue to face) in attempting to realize their transformative missions. Principally, these constraints relate to finances and patronage, accreditation, financial aid, and licensing requirements for attorneys. The chapter then relates these constraints back to the Support Structure Pyramid.
