This research paper investigates the significance of the relationship between flipped learning and pupils’ academic performance in secondary schools in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq especially with a focus on alternative philosophical underpinnings. Undoubtedly, the significance of this study in the field of educational research bubbles over with controversies. Professional researchers/teachers’ disagreements about what happens in schools emanate from the difference in philosophical lenses employed in understanding phenomena, divergent visions regarding the purpose of schooling, and what constitutes an ideal society and cultural differences.  This research attempts to understand teachers’ perception of reality in classrooms and fathoms the relationship between flipped learning and pupil’s academic performance, engagement and achievement. The research methodology employed has focused on mixed methods that allow the data analysis to adopt an interpretive approach and attempted to address the research questions by developing a structured observation and a questionnaire to facilitate the data collection procedure. The findings show that alternative philosophical underpinnings bear profound effects on pupils’ learning: teachers and the epistemologies and ontologies employed to understand reality in classrooms significantly impact flipped learning and pupils’ academic performance. The results suggest that these implications share common critical statements found in the related literature reviews that also indicate reflections on alternative philosophical underpinnings.

This study investigated the relationship between students’ achievement in practical and essaytests on biology. Two research questions were formulated- (i) what is the difference in the mean score of students in practical and essay tests in mock biology examinations? (ii) what is the measure of relationship (correlation coefficient) of students’ achievement in practical and essay aspects of biology tests? The research was conducted among public secondary schools in Nsukka Education Zone of Enugu State with a sampled population of 560 biology students (321 males and 239 females) from randomly sampled schools from the three local government areas in the zone.The Correlation survey research design was adopted for this study and the instrument of data collection were the results of the 2018 students’ mock practical and theoretical tests on biology from the sampled schools.The data collected were analysed using Descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) for research question 1, while the Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient analysis was used for research question 2. The findings of the study revealed that a weak positive association existed between the students’ achievementin practical and essay biology tests. So, the achievement in one aspect does not in any way influence the achievement in the other. The study thus recommends that: (1) teachers should have good mastery and evaluation techniques of all components of biology so that students would approach them with equal ability; (2) parents should encourage the students to develop interest and ability in the different components of biology; and (3) government should provide and equip biology laboratories to ensure students’ utilization of same.

Going green has become a new trend for Indian consumers. The perception towards green environment gave birth to the new insight of consumers. This study is guided by four research questions: (1) Identifying perception of Indian consumers about green attributes of hotels, (2) Identifying willingness to pay (WTP) of Indian consumers for green attributes of hotels, (3) Identifying the difference between the family income and willingness to pay of Indian consumers towards green attributes of hotels, and (4) and identifying the relationship between the perception and willingness to pay of Indian consumers towards green attributes of hotels. The current study concluded that Indian consumers have a positive perception towards green products and services but positive perception of consumers does not have positive willingness to pay. Some Indian consumers are willing to pay for green products and services but many of them are not ready to pay an extra amount for the same. So it’s a big challenge for the hoteliers to come out with those green services which can attract consumers. Also, they should make aware about the usage of green services and its importance so that consumers can easily buy without any hesitation.

Chapter 4 examines the difference in self-concept proposed by philosophers and psychologists in Western and East Asian cultures. It then introduces a dominant theoretical framework of cultural differences in self-concept that focuses on independence and interdependence in Western and East Asian cultures, respectively. It reviews behavioral and brain imaging findings that reveal cognitive and neural mechanisms underlying self-advantage during face recognition. It also examines the neural mechanisms related to self-reflection in Western and East Asian cultures by showing that the enhanced activity in the medial prefrontal cortex characterizes the independent self-construals, and the activity in the temporoparietal junction involved in self-reflection mediates the interdependent self-construals. It discusses the relationship between the neural roots of culturally specific self-concept and behavior.

Research into investigation of the relationship between multiple intelligences of learners and academic performance is germane. This study investigated relationship between multiple intelligences of higher degree students and academic performance. Two research questions and three hypotheses guided the correlational study. Three hundred and thirty Master degree students of the University of Ibadan who are randomly selected made the sample. Three validated instruments: Simple Multiple Intelligence Inventory developed by Gardner (r=0.89), Modified MILHDSQ (r=0.87) and the CGPA of students result for the two semesters was used to collect data that was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics at 0.05 level of significance. The result reveals a very high level of multiple intelligences in the overall mean of 4.34. Students demonstrated very much high intelligence in Logical-mathematical (Xw=4.82), interpersonal (Xw=4.57) and visual (Xw=4.53). Both logical (8.143<0.05) and intrapersonal (19.252<0.05) intelligences are related to academic performance. Moreover, academic performance has high correlation with Logical (0.72) and Linguistic (0.61). This shows a positive correlation between multiple intelligences and academic performance. The result provided opportunity for lecturers’ awareness to observe level of multiple intelligences of students for better guidance to improve academic performance. It is recommended that teaching strategies that will accommodate multiple intelligences be designed by education stakeholders.

The integral formation of the university students is of great transcendence for the society, what they can count on with the best necessary tools will allow them to confront with success his professional life. The objective of the present study is to know the relation of this one with the academic performance. The type of research is quantitative. The study was carried out on 95 people, of which 65 are young students at the baccalaureate level and the rest are part of a youth basketball team. The results show that 80% of young people practice some sport, depending on the hours per week that they practice sports, 41.17% practice from 1 to 2 hours, 11.76% from 2 to 3 hours and 47.05% train 3 or more per week. On the relationship between sport and academic performance, 78.46% affirm that there is. If they consider that sport has improved their academic performance, 54% believe that this is the case. Finally, we evaluated the average of those who do not practice sports (8.7) and those who do (8.8), although the difference is not obvious, this investigation must be complemented to corroborate the information and be able to approve or discard the hypothesis raised.

A custom in-the-ear (ITE) hearing aid fitting was compared to two over-the-ear (OTE) hearing aid fittings for each of 9 subjects with mild to moderately severe hearing losses. Speech intelligibility via the three instruments was compared using the Speech Intelligibility Rating (SIR) test. The relationship between functional gain and coupler gain was compared for the ITE and the higher rated OTE instruments. The difference in input received at the microphone locations of the two types of hearing aids was measured for 10 different subjects and compared to the functional gain data. It was concluded that (a) for persons with mild to moderately severe hearing losses, appropriately adjusted custom ITE fittings typically yield speech intelligibility that is equal to the better OTE fitting identified in a comparative evaluation; and (b) gain prescriptions for ITE hearing aids should be adjusted to account for the high-frequency emphasis associated with in-the-concha microphone placement.

Summary: Our meta-analysis focused on the relationship between homocysteine (Hcy) level and the incidence of aneurysms and looked at the relationship between smoking, hypertension and aneurysms. A systematic literature search of Pubmed, Web of Science, and Embase databases (up to March 31, 2020) resulted in the identification of 19 studies, including 2,629 aneurysm patients and 6,497 healthy participants. Combined analysis of the included studies showed that number of smoking, hypertension and hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy) in aneurysm patients was higher than that in the control groups, and the total plasma Hcy level in aneurysm patients was also higher. These findings suggest that smoking, hypertension and HHcy may be risk factors for the development and progression of aneurysms. Although the heterogeneity of meta-analysis was significant, it was found that the heterogeneity might come from the difference between race and disease species through subgroup analysis. Large-scale randomized controlled studies of single species and single disease species are needed in the future to supplement the accuracy of the results.

The topic of what interviews measure has received a great deal of attention over the years. One line of research has investigated the relationship between interviews and the construct of cognitive ability. A previous meta-analysis reported an overall corrected correlation of .40 ( Huffcutt, Roth, & McDaniel, 1996 ). A more recent meta-analysis reported a noticeably lower corrected correlation of .27 ( Berry, Sackett, & Landers, 2007 ). After reviewing both meta-analyses, it appears that the two studies posed different research questions. Further, there were a number of coding judgments in Berry et al. that merit review, and there was no moderator analysis for educational versus employment interviews. As a result, we reanalyzed the work by Berry et al. and found a corrected correlation of .42 for employment interviews (.15 higher than Berry et al., a 56% increase). Further, educational interviews were associated with a corrected correlation of .21, supporting their influence as a moderator. We suggest a better estimate of the correlation between employment interviews and cognitive ability is .42, and this takes us “back to the future” in that the better overall estimate of the employment interviews – cognitive ability relationship is roughly .40. This difference has implications for what is being measured by interviews and their incremental validity.
