Archives can be said to be "inanimate" if we look it from the physical side. On the other hand, archives can be said to be "a living thing" if we look it in terms of the information that is contained in. Archives can explain anywhere, anytime and any purpose, because archives have evidential value, informational value and intrinsic value. In short, archives is a source of knowledge if we look it through academic view point. Archives in relation to the Japanese occupation in Indonesia is very limited.Nowadays, the study related to the Japanese occupation in Indonesia is also decrease. However, the study about the Japanese occupation in Indonesia in the 80s was massive and varied. Nishijima Collection is one of the valuable sources of knowledge related to the Japanese occupation in Indonesia. Unfortunately, many people do not use the collection as source for their Indonesian study. The result of this study provides a new perspective on the materials related with the Japanese occupation in Indonesia contained in Nishijima Collection. Intellectual network was formed through Nishijima Collection. Eventually, the study about Nishijima Collection through the historical method can be an initial foundation to raise the historical awareness that will be able to affect the civilization (of Indonesia).

BKR selanjutnya melahirkan pembentukan TKR (Tentara Keamanan Rakyat), TKR (Tentara Keselamatan Rakyat), TRI (Tentara Republik Indonesia) dan TNI (Tentara Nasional Indonesia). Kedua, jika PETA dianggap sebagai cikal bakal TNI, maka KNIL dan beberapa satuan keprajuritan diabaikan. Padahal, beberapa bekas perwira KNIL memiliki peran penting di tubuh BKR hingga TNI.Kata kunci: BKR, Tentara, TNIAbstractThe main subject this study is BKR – Indonesian civil defense corps – as origin of Indonesian Military. This study is new interpretation about the origin of TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces) now. Many opinion refer to PETA as civil defense corps in Japanese occupation era. Study emlpoys a Historical Method, which consists of four stage: Heuristic, Critic, Interpretation, Historiography. The study utilize some sources such as newspaper, magazine, and book. Main finding of this study is PETA had dispersed as legality and formally and BKR was formed as the firts corps after Independence of Indonesia. Futhermore, BKR changed to TKR (Tentara Keamanan Rakyat), TKR (Tentara Keselamatan Rakyat), TRI (Tentara Republik Indonesia) until TNI (Tentara Nasional Indonesia). If PETA is considered as origins of Indonesian Military, then it ignore KNIL – a colonial armed forces – and the other defence corps. Even though the eks KNIL’s officer have important role in military managenment of BKR until TNI.Keywords: BKR, Military, TNI

Abstract : The study of environmental ethics based on the theory of oneness of being of Transcendent Theosophy has frontally criticizes modern scientific paradigm which is anthropocentric in character. This particular perspective believes that only man who posses value in itself (intrinsic value), while other being posses only instrumental value in relation to man interests. On the other hand, it also criticizes the ecocentric perspective which considers nature to posses her own value independently from man. The principle of oneness of being (wahdat al-wujūd) is the main (ontological) argumentation used by muslim philosophers, including Mulla Sadra as the founder of Transcendent Theosophy, in answering all cosmological questions and concerns throughout the ages. The Transcendent Theosophy itself is a (relatively) new perspective in the tradition of Islamic philosophy, which is based on a creative synthesis and harmonization of nearly all the earlier schools.

Keywords : oneness of being, transcendent theosophy, anthropocentrism, ecocentrism, theocentrism, ontocentrism

Abstrak : Etika lingkungan berdasarkan pada kesatuan wujud Teosofi Transenden merupakan kritik terhadap paradigma modern yang bercorak antroposentris. The arrival of Islam in Malay Archipelago to this day is still a debate, because no data and facts have been found to be scientifically justified, but also because of the unilateral nature of the various theories. There is a strong tendency, certain theories emphasize only the specific aspects, while ignoring the other aspects. Therefore, most of the theories that exist in certain aspects fail to explain the coming of Islam, and the process of Islamization. This paper aims to analyze the theory of the arrival of Islam in the Malay Archipelago world. The method used is historical method. Until now there are at least four theories that discuss the theory of the arrival of Islam in the Malay Archipelago world. The four theories are Gujarat theory, Mecca theory, Persian theory and fourth theory (Chinese). Each of these theories has the strengths and weaknesses and certainly these four theories have a common view of Islam as a religion developed in the archipelago through a peaceful way and Islam does not recognize mission as practiced by Christians and Catholics.

Using as the example of the pilgrimage to Sabarimala (Kerala, South India), I propose here to explore the links existing between sources, research hypothesis and research theory in social sciences. The choice of research materials in the process of investigation, sources of knowledge about the studied object, is not mere random sampling; it is processed in accordance with the questions of the researcher. It inevitably assumes a selective dimension. After a critical reading of the sources used by Indian studies, I will highlight on the connections between the sources and the methodological tools on the one hand, and the major research hypothesis about pilgrimage on the other. The links between the data taken from the field and the legitimacy of scientific discourse on India will be examined at the end before providing some keys for the interpretation of Sabarimala phenomenon in South India during the contemporary period.

Digital media transform social options of access with regard to producers, recipients, and literary works of art themselves. New labels for new roles such as »prosumers « and »wreaders« attest to this. The »blogger« provides another interesting new social figure of literary authorship. Here, some old desiderata of Dadaism appear to find a belated realization. On the one hand, many web 2.0 formats of authorship amplify and widen the freedom of literary productivity while at the same time subjecting such production to a periodic schedule. In comparison to the received practices of authors and recipients many digital-cultural forms of narrating engender innovative metalepses (and also their sublation). Writing in the net for internet-publics enables the deliberate dissolution of the received autobiographical pact with the reader according to which the author’s genuine name authenticates the author’s writing. On the other hand, the digital-cultural potential of dissolving the autobiographical pact stimulates scandals of debunking and unmasking and makes questions of author-identity an issue of permanent contestation. Digital-cultural conditions of communication amplify both: the hideand- seek of authorship as well as the thwarting of this game by recipients who delight in playing detective. In effect, pace Foucault’s and Barthes’ postulates of the death of the author, the personality and biography of the author once again tend to become objects of high intrinsic value

The article considers two versions of D. H. Lawrence’s essay The Theatre: the one which appeared in the English Review in September 1913 and the other one which Lawrence published in his first travel book Twilight in Italy (1916). The latter, considerably revised and expanded, contains a number of new observations and gives a more detailed account of Lawrence’s ideas.Lawrence brings to life the atmosphere inside and outside the theatre in Gargnano, presenting vividly the social structure of this small northern Italian town. He depicts the theatre as a multi-storey stage, combining the interpretation of the plays by Shakespeare, D’Annunzio and Ibsen with psychological portraits of the actors and a presentation of the spectators and their responses to the plays as distinct social groups.Lawrence’s views on the theatre are contextualised by his insights into cinema and its growing popularity. What makes this research original is the fact that it offers a new perspective, aiming to illustrate the social situation inside and outside the theatre whichLawrenceobserved. The author uses the material that has never been published or discussed before such as the handwritten lists of box-holders in Gargnano Theatre, which was offered to Lawrence and his wife Frieda by Mr. Pietro Comboni, and the photographs of the box-panels that decorated the theatre inLawrence’s time.

In attempting to characterize Second Temple legends of the Hasmoneans, the concluding chapter identifies several distinct genres: fragments from Aramaic chronicles, priestly temple legends, Pharisaic legends, and theodicean legends explaining the fall of the Hasmonean dynasty. The chapter then examines, by generation, how Josephus on the one hand, and the rabbis on the other, reworked these embedded stories. The Josephan treatment aimed to reduce the hostility of the early traditions toward the Hasmoneans by imposing a contrasting accusatory framework that blames the Pharisees and justifies the Hasmonean ruler. The rabbinic treatment of the last three generations exemplifies the processes of rabbinization and the creation of archetypal figures. With respect to the first generation, the deliberate erasure of Judas Maccabeus’s name from the tradition of Nicanor’s defeat indicates that they chose to celebrate the Hasmonean victory but concealed its protagonists, the Maccabees, simply because no way was found to bring them into the rabbinic camp.

Abstract Guigo II is commonly known and praised among specialists of Western mysticism for his Scala claustralium, a work that presents a spiritual program for cloistered monks. His Meditations, on the other hand, have usually been relegated to the margin of attention. The First Meditation, in particular, is generally regarded as a minor piece. The paper argues, however, that a new approach can make better sense of the First Meditation, while also enabling us to recognize its specific function and value. Seen from this new perspective, Guigo’s purpose with the text is to train and exercise his readers’ minds according to the spiritual program laid out in the Scala. The paper shows that the First Meditation realizes that goal, surprisingly, by having the same essential features that Umberto Eco found in the ‘open works’ of the Western avant-garde.

AbstractNon-manipulable factors, such as gender or race have posed conceptual and practical challenges to causal analysts. On the one hand these factors do have consequences, and on the other hand, they do not fit into the experimentalist conception of causation. This paper addresses this challenge in the context of public debates over the health cost of obesity, and offers a new perspective, based on the theory of Structural Causal Models (SCM).
