The aim of the present study was to identify the relationship between morphological parameters and motor skills that are important for sprint performance in children aged 8 to 16 years divided into four age groups (U10, U12, U14, U16) in both genders. The sample consisted of two hundred eighty one participant who trained sprinting in various athletic clubs. A prediction set of twenty-five variables for assessing morphological characteristics and motor skills was applied, and the criterion variable was a sprint at 60m. Using multiple correlation, it has been established that a large number of morphological characteristics are statistically significant positive correlation with the sprint, especially the longitudinal variables, while the variables of skinfolds showed a low negative statistical significance in relation to the given criterion. In the field of motor skills, the highest number of positive statistically significant correlations were found in the tests of explosive power of the upper and lower extremities, agility test and horizontal and vertical jump tests. In order to determine which morphological features and motor skills should be applied in sprint running training, we tested related attributes using different algorithms for data mining (LR, M5, KNN, SVM, MLP, RBF). The results suggests that the predictors that we use can continue to be applied with high reliability in assessing sprint performance, but also in the monitoring of the training process in order to profile the better sprint achievements.

AbstractThe aims of the study were: a) to analyze the reproducibility of the Modified Agility Test (MAT) according to two types of displacement (i.e. constrained [MATtop] vs. free [MATfree]), b) to examine the explanatory capacity of anthropometric characteristics and neuromuscular performance on the ability to change the direction (CODA), c) to look into the practical consequences of the types of displacement from the perspective of an elite soccer academy. 118 male soccer players (age: 16 (13-25) years old) from the same elite Spanish soccer academy (U13 to senior) were tested twice on two versions of the MAT (MATtop and MATfree), with 48 hours between testing sessions. Moreover, they were tested on linear-sprint performance, over 5 m (S5m) and 15 m (S15m), and the vertical jump (VJ) (countermovement jump with [ACMJ] and without an arm swing [CMJ]). The main findings were: a) the type of displacement did not affect the reliability of the CODA test; b) weight, S15m, ACMJ and CMJ variables explained close to 60% of CODA performance; c) MATtop (i.e. constrained displacement) and MATfree (i.e. free-displacement) CODA tests could show different profiles of development along the age groups; and d) the impact of the task’s constraints was relatively higher in U16 and U17 groups. CODA seems to have a variable meaning depending on the characteristics of the test and the age of the participants.

Introduction: Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is a primary treatment of obesity among older adults and its satisfactory outcomes would be the main reason behind the popularity of this procedure. We aim to evaluate the impact of age on excess weight loss in adult morbidly obese subjects older than 60 years old following LSG.Methods: In this retrospective survey, 3,072 subjects were included in the study that underwent LSG in Erfan Hospital. Screening follow-up period was 12 months. The level of statistical significance was set at P < 0.05. We hired comorbid conditions to avoid bias results including hypertension, diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia. Results: Of 3072 patients, 1879 cases were females (61.2%) and 1193 subjects were males (38.8 %). Mean %EBMIL of the group 12 months after surgery was 78.9 %. In younger than 60 years old group, mean %EBMIL 12 months postoperative 83 % and patients  over 60 years demonstrated mean %EBMIL 74.9 %. There was an obvious difference among age groups in presence of diabetes mellitus and hypertension in the older group which was more frequent. Conclusion: To sum up, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is safe procedure for older groups. Albeit, %EBMIL was significantly lower in older group compared to younger subjects, but resolution in comorbidities was satisfactory.

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of a sports games experimental program on improving specific motor abilities in adolescents with mental impairment. The study was conducted on a sample of 60 adolescents diagnosed with mild mental impairment, divided into two groups (experimental group EG, and control group CG) with an equal number of participants. The special program of sports games lasted for 12 weeks, with a weekly frequency of four times and a duration of 30 minutes per training. The participants of both groups were tested with the same variables within the specific motor skills for the sport of football and basketball. After a twelve-week experimental program of sports games, there were statistically significant improvements in the EG in the variables: SMFS, SMDR, SMCP with a statistical significance of r=0.000. The results of the ANOVA and MANOVA analyses indicated that after the application of the specific sports games program there was a statistically significant difference in the benefits for the EG compared to the CG, in the parameters of specific motor abilities with a statistical significance r=0.000 and the size of the impact. Based on these research results, it can be concluded that a specific exercise program conducted within twelve-week training of specifically dosed sports activities has significantly contributed the development of specific motor skills for football and basketball.

The research was conducted on a sample of 70 respondents-swimmers aged 13-15 years of swimming clubs from Sarajevo Canton/Federation of BiH, with the aim of determining the significance and magnitude of the impact of selected basic motor skills on the implementation of specific motor tasks in swimming (navigability in place, sliding length with reflection from water, start from starting block, parallel). The study used 10 variables to assess basic motor skills, which were the input or predictor set of variables, and three variables to assess the efficiency of specific motor tasks in swimming as a criterion, each variable from the battery of specific motor tasks was considered as a criterion on the predictor set of basic-motor variables. Three mini regression analyzes were applied to determine the statistical significance and relative influence of basic motor skills on the realization of specific motor tasks in swimming (buoyancy in place, length of sliding with reflection from water, start from the starting block, parallel). The results of regression analyzes indicate that the greatest influence on the overall efficiency in the implementation of specific motor tests in swimming, looking at all criterion variables together, from the set of basic-motor variables, as a predictor set, show the following variables: stick twist-MFLISK MFLPRK, plantar flexion-MFLPL, long jump from place-MFESDM, agility on the ground-MKOKNT and shelter in lying-MRCZTL. The results obtained in this research can be useful for teachers and swimming trainers who work with younger age categories for the purpose of better programming of training work and selection of training content.

Purpose: To investigate the impact of twice-daily inhalation of 100 µg of salmeterol (SAL) or 12 µg of formoterol (FOR) in addition to a strength- and power-training program over a 5-wk period on a 30-m sprint, strength, power, mood, stress, and skinfold thickness. Methods: In a randomized, single-blind study, 23 male and 15 female nonasthmatic, recreationally active individuals were recruited (mean [SD] age 26.3 [5.4] y, weight 76.2 [11.5] kg, height 176.9 [8.5] cm). Participants completed 3 standardized whole-body strength- and power-training sessions per week for 5 wk during which they were assigned to an SAL, FOR, or placebo group. Participants used their inhaler twice per day as instructed and completed assessments of sprint, strength, and power at baseline and 1 wk after cessation of the training program. The assessments included a 30-m sprint, vertical jump, 1-repetition-maximum (1RM) bench press, 1RM leg press, peak torque flexion and extension, anthropometric evaluation, and Rest-Q questionnaires. Results: After 5 wk of strength and power training, 30-m sprint time reduced in the FOR (0.29 [0.11] s, P = .049) and SAL (0.35 [0.05] s, P = .040) groups compared with placebo (+0.01 [0.11] s). No significant change was found in other assessments of strength, mood, or skinfold thickness. Conclusions: When strength and power training are combined with the inhalation of FOR or SAL over a 5-wk period, moderately trained individuals experience an improvement in 30-m sprint performance.

Abstract The aim of this study was to verify the impact of ethnicity on the maximal power-vertical jump relationship. Thirty-one healthy males, sixteen Caucasian (age: 26.3 ± 3.5 years; body height: 179.1 ± 5.5 cm; body mass: 78.1 ± 9.8 kg) and fifteen Afro-Caribbean (age: 24.4 ±2.6 years; body height: 178.9 ± 5.5 cm; body mass: 77.1 ± 10.3 kg) completed three sessions during which vertical jump height and maximal power of lower limbs were measured. The results showed that the values of vertical jump height and maximal power were higher for Afro-Caribbean participants (62.92 ± 6.7 cm and 14.70 ± 1.75 W∙kg-1) than for Caucasian ones (52.92 ± 4.4 cm and 12.75 ± 1.36 W∙kg-1). Moreover, very high reliability indices were obtained on vertical jump (e.g. 0.95 < ICC < 0.98) and maximal power performance (e.g. 0.75 < ICC < 0.97). However, multiple linear regression analysis showed that, for a given value of maximal power, the Afro-Caribbean participants jumped 8 cm higher than the Caucasians. Together, these results confirmed that ethnicity impacted the maximal power-vertical jump relationship over three sessions. In the current context of cultural diversity, the use of vertical jump performance as a predictor of muscular power should be considered with caution when dealing with populations of different ethnic origins.

The knowledge of morphological development and their impact on motor skills in short-distance athletes should be one of the main concerns of athletics coaches, because any scientific research in the field of physical culture and sports is about proving the development and evaluation of anthropological characteristics which are responsible for achieving success in athletics. This paper explores the impact of some anthropometric features on running 200 meters. The aim is to establish the link between the anthropometric and specific characteristics of running 200 meters, as a predictive system of running at 200 meters as a criterion system. The research was conducted by 60 male students aged 17±6months, in the gymnasium "Zenel Hajdini” Gjilan. The measurements were executed during September in the hall of the gymnasium, while the 200, meter runs in the stadium "City stadium "Gjilan. The only condition that was used during the determination of the sample was: that the students are involved in regular physical education classes (and on the day of the measurement be healthy, without the flu, cold or other symptoms).The variables which are applied in this research have been 8 anthropometric variables and 1 motor-specific variables. The results obtained after their processing indicate that the impact of anthropometric variables is higher in running at 200 meters. Short distance running and long-distance running reduces the impact of anthropometric parameters whereas the influence of metabolic factors of energy production is increased. These results were also confirmed using regression analysis, so that groups of predictors of anthropometric characteristics, specific motor skills that statistically significantly influenced each variable of individual criteria. The world records below the 19.20-second limit, in the 200 m, near the 19-meter limit, show not only the high level of sports, but also the strong impact on the growth, especially of strength indicators, speed-strength, explosive force, as main and applied motor skills in sports and athlete’s everyday life.

Background: With widely available web-based information about hypertension, internet has the potential to improve health literacy and to affect clinical outcomes. In this study we assessed the prevalence of health-related internet (HRI) usage by patients with hypertension and its association with health outcomes. Methods: Hypertension was defined by the question, “Have you ever been told by a doctor or health profession that you have high blood pressure?” Participants who answered “Yes” were included in the sample. If the participants stated that they accessed the Internet to look up health information, to learn about health topics in chat groups, to refill prescriptions, to schedule appointments, or to communicate with their provider, they were included in ‘HRI user’ group. Two logistic regression models were run to assess predictors of HRI usage and to explore the impact of HRI use on health status among hypertension patients. All models were controlled by age, gender, marital status, race, education, and poverty income ratio (PIR). Sampling weights were utilized to produce population-based results. Results: The prevalence of HRI use in hypertension patients was: 57% (40-55 yrs), 50% (56-65 yrs) and 26% (>65 yrs). In comparison, 58% (40-55 yrs), 56% (56-65 years) and 29% (>65 yrs) of population without hypertension used HRI. The difference between two groups was not statistically significant. Younger age (OR 4.0, p <.0001 for 40-55 group, and OR 2.6, p=0.001 for 50-65 group), women (OR 1.4, p <.0001), higher education (OR 3.8, p <.0001 for 12+ years of education), or higher PIR (OR 1.3, p=0.02 for PIR=2, and OR=3.1, p <.0001 for PIR>=3) were predictors of using HRI with statistical significance. Compared to Caucasians, Africans Americans (OR 0.5, p=0.04) were less likely to use the HRI. After adjusting for socio-demographic variables, patients who used HRI in the last 12 months were 1.3 time more likely to report improvement in health status (p=0.04). Conclusions: HRI usage between the hypertension patients and general population did not differ significantly in different age groups. Age, gender, education, PIR, and race were significant predictors of HRI usage pattern. HRI use was associated with improvement in health status within 12 months of using internet.

Introduction. The aim of this study is to examine changes in the chosen morphological characteristics, motor conditioning, and coordination skills in physiotherapy undergraduates at a medical university in Bydgoszcz in the first decade of the millennium. We assume prevalence of a secular trend in values of morphological characteristics; however, characteristics of motor skills, particularly fitness levels, will remain relatively unchanged. Materials and Methods. The study included young people studying physiotherapy at the medical university of Bydgoszcz 2001-2010. Basic morphological features, including waist and hip circumferences, were measured, and BMI and WHR were calculated. The Cooper test and marching over a distance of two kilometers were employed to determine endurance; right and left spinning coordination was assessed by Starosta test. Calculated Mollison indicators were used in the evaluation of dimorphic differences in subsequent observation time. Statistics. Data are presented as mean with the standard deviation. Groupwise comparison was performed with Student’s t-test and linear relationships with Pearson’s r. Linear covariance models (ANCOVA) were built as theoretical models. Statistical significance was set at alfa=0.05. Based on the correlation between the data and the corresponding normal score used, the Shapiro-Wilk test is the best choice for testing the normality of data. Variables were excluded if they exceeded the tolerance level for multicollinearity. Analysis was performed with Statistica 10. Results. The study demonstrated a rising number of male students (from 13,3% to 39,2%, chi2=10,13; p=0,001) and a decrease in age of students overall but no significant changes (from 22,25±0,75 to 20,42±1,7; F=32,9; p<0,001) in their morphological characteristics and their dimorphic differences (average results for males: BMI, from 22,25±1,94 to 26,27±3,56; WHR index, from 0,78±0,06 to 0,85±0,06; average results for females: BMI, from 20,79±2,11 to 22,19±3,83; WHR index, from 0,7±0,04 to 0,75±0,15). An overall improvement in endurance was found; however, coordination, especially amongst women, had deteriorated (turn right, from 377,1±48,1 to 343,1±23,3; turn left, from 375,0±5,61 to 345,6±43,1). We observed multidirectional changes in the analyzed motor skills and most of them were statistically significant. Conclusions. Longitudinal study of physiotherapy students revealed no differences in morphological and dimorphic characteristics and multimodal changes in assessed motor skills, thus highlighting a need for further research into the identification of their causes. Moreover, a requirement for entry motor skills assessment and curriculum reorientation towards delivery of a broader scope of physical education was suggested.

Abstract: Dental aesthetics is an important factor since it represents a determinant and influential physical stereotype on the individual in different age groups. Young people are particularly vulnerable due to the influence of social media. Thus, there is a greater collective interest in improving the appearance of their smiles, allowing them to improve their interpersonal relationships. Currently, there are several indices to assess quality of life and dental aesthetics. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of dental self-perception on the quality of life of students at the Catholic University of Cuenca, Azogues, in 2018. The study included a sample of 189 students; the Aesthetic Oral Health Impact Profile (A-OHIP14) questionnaire was applied. Inferential statistics used chi-squared tests (p<0.05). No statistical significance was found between quality of life according to sex (p=0.246) or age (p=0.132). Regarding the domains, it was reported that psychological discomfort and physical pain has the highest scores (3.15-2.92), while they feeling disadvantaged and social disability had lower scores (1.5-1.56). Male students aged 18 to 21 showed the greatest impact of dental self-perception on quality of life associated with oral health.
