Part II of this two-part article on the history of the teaching of qualitative analysis covers the hydrogen sulfide problem, the debates over why and how qualitative analysis should be taught to undergraduate chemistry majors, and comments on its eventual demise. It also contains the references for both parts.

Implemented computational models are a central paradigm of Cognitive Science. How do cognitive scientists really use such models? We take the example of one of the most successful and influential cognitive models, TRACE (McClelland & Elman, 1986), and we map its impact on the field in terms of published, electronically available documents that cite the original TRACE paper over a period of 25 years since its publication. We draw conclusions about the general status of computational cognitive modelling and make critical suggestions regarding the nature of abstraction in computational modelling.

Maca Syekh oral tradition in Pandeglang Regency, Banten Province, is one form of teaching that aims to hear and understand the life history of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jaelani. An interesting thing to examine from Maca Shaykh's oral tradition is the existence of an acculturation process involving elements of culture, religion, and political elements to then produce an acculturation product that can survive until now. Descriptive research with reference to qualitative data is the right choice considering the source of the data sought is essay information which requires a lot of qualitative analysis. From the results of the analysis, it is known that the acculturation of the Maca Shaykh oral tradition in Pandeglang Regency, Banten Province, is divided into two: traditional acculturation and linguistic acculturation. The political element is described briefly because it only involves the use of Arabic letters in the Maca Syekh writing which in the colonial period became something considered to represent modernists.

The article discusses one of the areas of psychological rehabilitation of children in a hospital hospital clowns. The theoretical and practical prerequisites of the history of the development of hospital clownery both abroad and in the Russian Federation are shown. The results of studies of the effectiveness of the impact of hospital clownery and laughter therapy on the emotional state of children and their parents, in particular on the experience of anxiety and fears in the postoperative period, as well as on the severity of pain during medical manipulations such as venipuncture, allergy tests and radionuclide scanning are presented. The results of a qualitative analysis of the authors empirical research of 133 children and 65 parents are presented. The aim of the research was to study the effect of hospital clownery on the emotional state of children resulting from hospitalization and treatment received (painful manipulations, surgical intervention). Subjective assessments by children and parents of their psycho-emotional state were recorded using questionnaires. The projective method was also used the Luscher Test. The results of a qualitative analysis demonstrated a subjective sensation of an improvement in the psychoemotional state in 97% of children and in 92% of parents (improving mood, decreasing of anxiety and fears). 67% of children noted a weakening of the pain syndrome. Thus, the authors have confirmed by their own research the positive effect of hospital clownery on childrens health. The presented review clearly demonstrates the feasibility of expanding the use of this method in childrens hospitals of various profiles.

This research aims to reconstruct the history of human culture, and the depiction of alteration process of man’s culture in the past as well as contribute data about development history of figurine art, particuarly figurine with siva characteristic in Denpasar. Data were collected using observation, interview, and literature study method and were analyzed using qualitative analysis and iconography. The research result shows that figurines with siva characteristic in Denpasar distributed in ten sanctuaries. The types of siva character figurine are Durga, Ganesha, linga yoni, linga, yoni, holy priest, and nandi. Up to now those figurines are still functioned by the people for religious activities and as media to connect with God Almighty.

Emerging evidence indicates that the dysregulation of cellular redox homeostasis and chronic inflammatory processes are implicated in the pathogenesis of kidney and brain disorders. In this light, endogenous dipeptide carnosine (β-alanyl-L-histidine) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) exert cytoprotective actions through the modulation of redox-dependent resilience pathways during oxidative stress and inflammation. Several recent studies have elucidated a functional crosstalk occurring between kidney and the brain. The pathophysiological link of this crosstalk is represented by oxidative stress and inflammatory processes which contribute to the high prevalence of neuropsychiatric disorders, cognitive impairment, and dementia during the natural history of chronic kidney disease. Herein, we provide an overview of the main pathophysiological mechanisms related to high levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including interleukin-1β (IL-1β), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and neurotoxins, which play a critical role in the kidney–brain crosstalk. The present paper also explores the respective role of H2S and carnosine in the modulation of oxidative stress and inflammation in the kidney–brain axis. It suggests that these activities are likely mediated, at least in part, via hormetic processes, involving Nrf2 (Nuclear factor-like 2), Hsp 70 (heat shock protein 70), SIRT-1 (Sirtuin-1), Trx (Thioredoxin), and the glutathione system. Metabolic interactions at the kidney and brain axis level operate in controlling and reducing oxidant-induced inflammatory damage and therefore, can be a promising potential therapeutic target to reduce the severity of renal and brain injuries in humans.
