Urban conflicts, as an expression of social conflict, are significant phenomena and represent a prominent object for reflection on social dynamics and relations. The aim of this paper is to present categories and methodology that help to broaden knowledge on urban social struggles and their insertion into the most general range of social conflict based on the experience of building research instruments and theoretical contributions that contribute to the Curitiba Observatory of Urban Conflict. The global analysis of the 707 documented protests delivers elements with which to assess the theoretical-methodological potential of the proposal, thereby indicating that the protests, in different ways, have triggered demands for the qualification (improvements in infrastructure and services), appropriation (recognition of uses) and transformation (modification in production processes) of urban spaces.

In this research we try to understand about how the agribusiness, allied to industry, is changing economic, cultural and social dynamics of the municipalities of the agricultural and livestock region of MATOPIBA, in view of, also, the process of economic modernization, both rural and urban areas, produced by the financial capital and investments of several other sectors. Therefore, seeks to analyze how agribusiness reproduces urban spaces, according to a logic of capitalist production, and no longer a logic of the traditional populations of that region.

Abstract. The massive use of contemporary information and communication technology as digital platforms and social networks are ruling social dynamics from urban spaces urban spaces in a remarkable manner. The digital layer of cities became a bidirectional and omnipresent path, creating relational and interactional structures able to exchange data and media. This networked city may be analyzed and debated as a complex open system that demands research concerning communicational plurality and development of urban space representation, considering the increasing of informational and communicational density. Digital traces from social networks developed in PortoAlegre.cc, a collaborative web map registering issues and use of urban space, were used as data input for this research. Social network analysis was used as method for network structures evaluation. The results reveal short paths among network elements, shaped by structures following Small World model. The analysis showed efficient networks for data exchange increasing informational and communicational density. This work contribution is focused on presenting alternative approaches and perspectives for this multidisciplinary area, enhancing the debate about urban space by rethinking its representation and collective knowledge.

My response to Fey’s article (1985; reprinted 1992, this issue) focuses on the confusion caused by the application of simplistic phonological definitions and models to the assessment and treatment of children with speech delays. In addition to having no explanatory adequacy, such definitions/models lead either to assessment and treatment procedures that are similarly focused or to procedures that have no clear logical ties to the models with which they supposedly are linked. Narrowly focused models and definitions also usually include no mention of speech production processes. Bemoaning this state of affairs, I attempt to show why it is important for clinicians to embrace broad-based models of phonological disorders that have some explanatory value. Such models are consistent with assessment procedures that are comprehensive in nature and treatment procedures that focus on linguistic, as well as motoric, aspects of speech.
