Good classroom management will produce good teaching and learning interactions. Learner goals can be achieved without finding significant obstacles. But it is unfortunate that good classroom conditions cannot always be maintained. There is often a lack of learning in students, their confusion here is different, and various other learning problems. This may be due to their routine in learning. They routinely enter class, take a break, go home according to the time determined by the school. At the same time, the learning methods used by the teacher are also routine, aka not changing. So, this article is arranged to contribute ideas about solutions to these learning problems. After a literature review, a solution to the problem is offered, namely the use of a variety of learning methods and the application of PAIKEM.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, universities have moved rapidly to transition of various courses and programs from face-to-face to online delivery mode. Involving pre-service teachers in the virtual field experience remained almost impossible. In the United Arab Emirates, however, a small cohort of four pre-service teachers have completed their teaching practicum online for the first time. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the effectiveness of virtual practicum placement and its impact on developing preservice teachers' teaching practices, classroom management skills, and the use of online resources. A qualitative approach was employed for data collection including open-ended interviews, journal entries, and written reflections under guided reflective categories to uncover participants' perceptions about their virtual teaching experience. Findings revealed the significant role of the mentor and suggested a framework for effective virtual field experience.

The challenges faced by a lecturer teaching large multidisciplinary engineering classes are identified. These are principally related to the size of the class, the extensive mathematical knowledge that is considered as prerequisite, as well as the heterogeneity of the class due to the diversity of students’ academic background and interests. In order to improve students’ engagement and retention in class, active learning techniques are employed and their impact on the performance of the class is captured through a questionnaire designed for this purpose. The statistics demonstrate that good teaching facilities and a well-prepared lecturer do not suffice for maximising students’ satisfaction, attention and retention. In order to engage the students in a large class setting, it is important to involve them in the lecture process. The employed active learning methods comprising quizzes, in class demonstration and muddiest-point cards induce a remarkably positive impact at almost no additional teaching resources.
