Nowadays, plant is being used as a biofuel, a probable source for a pesticide and it is valued for its pharmacological effects. Hence, the researchers engaged in the scientific approach to provide explanation to these claims. The study focused on the phytochemical screening of the ethanolic extract of radish bulbs (Raphanus sativus). It further dealt on the isolation and determination of the molecular masses to provide probable structures and associated molecular properties for its constituents.<br />Alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins and tannins were analyzed. Further, this effort involved analysis through Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) using the mobile phase of Toluene: Chloroform (9:11) and Gas Chromatography- Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) to analyze the first spot (Retention Factor= 0.667).<br />Phytochemical analysis showed no tannins. Using TLC, it revealed two spots having Rf values of 0.667 and 0.507, respectively. Using GC-MS method, 24 different molecules were isolated and analyzed of which only 23 were given probable structures. The 23 molecules constituted 11 long-chain alkanes, 4 long-chain alkyl esters, 2 aromatic ketones, a benzyl halide, an aryl ether, a quinone, an aromatic aldehyde, a long chain aromatic alkane, and a long-chain alkyl nitrile. With this finding, the bulb extract may be a good source of potential biofuel (mono-alkyl ester), UV A, B and C blockers in the form of diphenyl-ketone, oviposition attractants (long-chain alkanes) and also a source of bioactive molecules such as estragole which shows antispasmodic effect, methyl palmitate with immunosuppressive effect in semi-allografts and hepatoprotective activity in rats, and an analogue of the antidepressant alfetamine.

Objective: Andrographis lawsonii Gamble is a medicinal herb species, Endemic to India: Karnataka (Dakshina kannada or south Canara district), Kerala (Palakkad district), and Tamil Nadu (Coimbatore and Nilgiris districts). The Andrographis is a large genus of the family Acanthaceae. This study focused to check the preliminary phytochemical nutritive analysis, leaf stem and root and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis leaf methanol extract. Methods: The plant samples were subjected to Soxhlet extraction for phytochemical analysis and further experimental studies. The test on phytochemical studies indicated the presence of alkaloids, saponins, glycosides, and flavonoids glycosides within the plant parts, respectively. The estimation of carbohydrate protein starch methanol leaves extracts to have high activity compared to others. Results: Preliminary phytochemical and Nutritional analysis in A. lawonii. Nutritional analysis in carbohydrate protein and starch content was found to be high in leaf methanol extract. Highly medicinal compound analysis in this GC-MS Analysis 50 compound present in methanol leaf extract. Conclusion: The leaf methanol extract of A. lawsonii has exhibited remarkable preliminary phytochemical analysis and nutritional analysis GC-MS analysis to the medicinal plant.

Objective: The aim was to investigate phytoconstituents, composition of pigments, gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GCMS) and allelopathy of Alternanthera ficoidea (L.) P. Beauv.Methods: Qualitative phytochemical analysis was carried out by the method of Paech and Tracey using five different solvent systems (D.W., ether, chloroform, ethanol, and methanol). Methanol leaf extract of this plant was analyzed using GCMS. Chlorophylls, carotenoid, and polyphenols were estimated by following standard methods. Allelopathy effect was studied using leaf leachets on seeds of jowar and mung.Result and Conclusion: Investigation of above parameters in A. ficoidea showed presence of large amount of pharmaceutically important phytochemicals like tannins, saponins, phytols, carotenoids, xanthophylls and polyphenols. It indicates that this weed can be used in herbal medicines and dietary supplements. Since this weed is showing allelopathy effect it should be eradicated from fields before it spreads and occupies the place meant for crop plants.Keywords: Allelopathy, Alternanthera ficoidea, Exotic weed, Phytochemicals.

ABSTRACTObjective: To explore the phytochemical constituents present in Sarcostemma brevistigma using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).Methods: Preliminary phytochemical analysis of secondary metabolites was made by following standard procedures. GC-MS analysis of the plantextracts was performed by using GC-MS equipped with a DB-35MS capillary standard non-polar column and gas chromatograph interfaced to a MassSelective Detector (MS-DSQ-II) with Xcalibur software.Results: The qualitative phytochemical analysis of this species exhibited the presence of alkaloids, glycosides, flavonoids, phenols, steroids, aminoacids, tannins, terpenoids, quinones, and coumarin. The GC-MS analysis revealed the presence of 24 compounds in the ethanolic extract of aerial partof Sarcostemma brevistigma. The most prevailing compound was 14,17 bis(dimethylaminoamino)[3.3]paracyclophan-5,8-diacetonitrile (14.86%).Conclusion: The study concludes that the species Sarcostemma brevistigma is a potential source for bioactive compounds such as esters, alkanes,alcohols, alkenes, amide, amine, phenol, ketone, and so forth. Objectives: To study the phytochemical analysis and antimicrobial compounds from fruits of Thespesia populnea.Methods: The determination of antimicrobial activity of fruit extract was done by agar well diffusion method. Active compounds were extracted bydifferent solvent extraction methods. The presence of active compounds was confirmed by ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry, Fourier transforminfrared spectroscopy and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis (GC-MS).Results: The active extract was identified by the GC-MS analysis and it was revealed that the presence of oleic acid, pentadecanoic acid, andN-hexadecanoic acid.Conclusion: This method adopted and extracted purified active metabolites and can be fruitfully employed for obtaining novel antibiotic compounds to treat human pathogenic bacterial and fungal diseases.Keywords: Thespesia populnea (L.), Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Antimicrobial, Phytochemical.

<p>ABSTRACT<br />Objective: The aim of the study was to analyze qualitative and quantitative phytochemicals, evaluate in vitro antioxidant properties and determine the<br />bioactive compounds in extracts of Dicranopteris linearis (Burm.f.) Underw. collected from Western Ghats of Kanyakumari district.<br />Methods: The qualitative, quantitative phytochemical, and in vitro antioxidant analysis were performed using standard procedures. The bioactive<br />compounds were analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) instrument.<br />Results: The qualitative phytochemical analysis studied in aqueous, acetone, chloroform, ethanol, and petroleum ether solvent extract showed acetone<br />had strong positivity to express the 12 phytoconstituents studied except anthocyanin when compared to other solvent extracts. The quantitative<br />phytochemistry revealed considerable amount of terpenoids (97.0±1.15 mg/g), tannins (30.8±0.44 mg tannic acid equivalents/gram), phenols<br />(28.6±0.33 mg gallic acid equivalents/gram), and flavonoids (8.50±0.29 mg quercetin equivalent/g) in decreasing order of concentrations. The in<br />vitro antioxidant activity of aqueous, ethanol, acetone, chloroform, and petroleum ether suggested that the extract of DL has prominent antioxidant<br />prospective against various free radicals such as 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl while butylated hydroxy toluene being the standard antioxidant used.<br />The GC-MS analysis displayed the presence of 11 bioactive compounds each belonging to various categories of phytochemicals such as terpenoids,<br />flavonoids, phenols, and fatty acid derivatives.<br />Conclusion: The results indicate that D. linearis (Burm.f.) Underw. present in the Western Ghats of Kanyakumari is an effective scavenger of free<br />radicals and has the potential to be used as a natural antioxidant which is attributed to the rich presence of secondary metabolites.<br />Keywords: Dicranopteris linearis (Burm.f.)
