Executive remuneration has been the subject of close scrutiny, huge public outcries and criticisms in the recent past in South Africa. This has invariably attracted unprecedented research interest across different sectors of the economy. Various studies on executive remuneration versus corporate performance have been conducted across South African companies with no finite consensus. This study joins the debate with the hope of reaching common understanding on the relationship between the two variables. The study seeks to investigate the relationship between CEO remuneration and company performance on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange Listed (JSE) Companies from 2010 to 2015. In particular, the focus of the study was to determine if these two constructs were correlated and aligned with the corporate governance principles. The study, employed a deductive methodological approach, based on a longitudinal, descriptive quantitative design. Purposive sampling technique was used to select the actively listed companies that met the prescribed criteria. Secondary data, sourced from McGregor BFA database was used for the study. Data analysis took an archival quantitative research approach. Regression and time series statistical analyses were performed on secondary data on CEO remuneration and company performance metrics. The findings confirmed the existence of a positive relationship between CEO remuneration and company performance in South Africa as hinted by previous studies

In an attempt to address the growing gap between chief executive officer (CEO) remuneration and that of the general worker, reign in rising CEO remuneration, and justify the portion of long-term incentive pay that makes up the bulk of CEO remuneration, shareholders and other stakeholders are trying to find definitive factors that will link CEO remuneration to company performance. Finding this link has become central to all executive remuneration issues. The results of the studies linking CEO remuneration to company performance are varied and inconclusive, particularly in South Africa. The reason for this is that previous studies have not looked at whether the company performance measures chosen have definite relationships with CEO remuneration in each industry. This study investigated eleven financial indicators of company performance to determine which of them have significant and positive relationships to CEO remuneration in different industries in South Africa. 254 South African listed companies, spread over 5 industries, were analysed for the period 2008 to 2012 using panel data analysis and statistical tests. The results were conclusive, finding performance metrics that had a positive and significant relationship to CEO remuneration in 4 of the 5 industries investigated, as well as over the aggregate of all the industries.

The relationship between financial slack with the company's performance is not clear. Therefore, this issue more interesting to study. Financial slack can be grouped into two types: available slack and potential slack. Therefore, this study is intended to clarify the effect of available slack and potential slack to company performance. To achieve this aim, used a linear regression equation. The study focused on companies listed on Indonesia Stock Exchange by using purposive sampling technique in sampling research so that the sample size were 112 companies. The data used in this research is secondary data with observations in the period 2008-2010. To explain the effect of financial slack on the performance of companies used the t and F test with α by 10 percent. Based on the analysis and discussion, some conclusions as follows: Firstly, available slack and potential slack have significant negative effect on the performance of the company. Second, the greater the slack of the company, there is a tendency that corporate leaders will tend to use the slack to fulfill its interests. Based on the above conclusions, some suggestions as follows: Firstly, if the company's performance would be improved, financial slack needs to be lowered to a level that is needed. Second, the results of this study can be used as a basis for regulators to make regulations to improve the quality of corporate governance of the corporation. Third, further research is needed by differentiating the sample of companies over companies that implement good corporate governance and corporate governance is not good.
