Abstract Background: Habitual snoring (HS), a prominent symptom of sleep-disordered breathing , is important to also consider the associated, multidimensional risk factors for HS in children. Aim: To identify risk factors for HS in children. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was performed in Chengdu. Children aged 2–14 years from four districts were randomly chosen to participate.Questionnaires were voluntarily completed by the children’s guardians. Results: The survey included 926 boys and 622 girls, who were an average of 7.11 5.25 years old. The sample included 463 habitual snorers (30.38%), 683 occasional snorers (44.82%), and 402 non-snorers (26.38%). HS was found in 51.84% of preschool children and 26.6% of school children.Among the HS group, 31.3% had a maternal education of a college degree or higher and 86.6%had an immediate family member who snores. Breastfeeding duration among the HS group was significantly less than among the occasional snoring and non-snoring groups. History of symptoms of allergic rhinitis, rhinosinusitis, tonsillitis, and pneumonia/bronchitis in the past six months were associated with HS. Likewise, maternal smoking during pregnancy, maternal exposure to secondhand smoke during pregnancy , and child exposure to secondhand smoke were also associated with HS. Conclusion: The prevalence of HS was higher in preschool children. Having a mother with more education, a family history of snoring, a shorter period of breastfeeding, upper respiratory tract inflammation, and passive smoking are important risk factors for HS.

The risk factors of low birthweight infants were assessed in a retrospective study covering 3607 singleton livebirth infants at Manado Hospital from January until December 1993. The analysis confirmed that patterns of risk birthweight hypertension in pregnancy (P<0.01), maternal education (P<0.01), maternal age (P<0.05), and parity (P<0.01), marital status (P<0.01), history of abortion (P<0.05), and parity (P<0.01). Anemia in pregnancy was also associated with birthweight in low birth weight (P<0.05). Asymetric intrauterine growth retardation (Ponderal Index below 2.32) was found both in premature and term infants.

Research objective: to determine the risk factors for the spread of coronavirus infection among women of fertile age.Materials and methods. Authors analyzed the medical records (case histories and questionnaires) of 60 women of fertile age who were treated for coronavirus disease. After analysis of medical and social factors women were divided into age groups. Analysis of risk factors for coronavirus disease was determined by calculating the odds ratio according to Wald at p < 0.05.Results. Evaluation of the odds ratio of the COVID-19 chances depending on the nature of work of women of different ages showed that with intense work the risk of disease increases 2.5 times in the age group up to 30 years, which also confirms the analysis of previous indicators, that younger women with moderate workloads have more opportunities to attend mass events and crowds. In the structure of extragenital diseases in women with coronavirus disease, the chances of disease increased 2.6 times in those women who had a history of chronic tonsillitis. Among the history of infectious diseases, the chance ratio of coronavirus disease was increased in women over 30 years of age who had pertussis. Such data may indicate a similar mechanism of development of these diseases, because the causative agent of pertussis also penetrates the upper respiratory tract and may be accompanied by neurological symptoms – the appearance of seizures and bronchospasm.Conclusions. The data obtained in this way allow us to separate a narrower cohort of women of fertile age who may develop coronavirus disease. This will further allow developing proposals for a more efficient distribution of vaccines among the female population of Ukraine and reduce the prevalence of coronavirus infection.

Preeclampsia is one of the major causes of maternal, fetal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. The research aimed at investigating the risk factor of the preeclampsia incident in Mother and Child Hospital Siti Khadijah Gorontalo. The research used the case control study design. Case samples are mothers who suffer from preeclampsia, while control samples are mothers who did not experience preeclampsia during pregnancy. The total sample of 78 people The results of this study indicate that risk factors for the incidence of preeclampsia include socioeconomic status (OR = 3,976, CI%: 1,399 - 11,301), maternal education (OR = 4,396, 95% CI: 1,518 - 12,374), and history preeclampsia (OR = 8,441, 95% CI: 1,469 - 48,501). Maternal occupation, maternal age, history of hypertension, and parity are not risk factors for the incidence of preeclampsia. The most influential factor on the incidence of preeclampsia is the history of preeclampsia.

OBJECTIVES: to study risk factors related to atopic eczema (AE) in school children of São Paulo. METHODS: 1972 parents or guardians of 6-7 years old children in the Southern Central area of São Paulo answered to a written questionnaire (standardized questionnaire of the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood plus a complementary questionnaire regarding family history of asthma and allergies, and exposure to environmental allergens). AE was defined by the presence of an itchy rash in the last year. Risk factors were analyzed through logical regression. RESULTS: the following factors were significantly associated with AE: history of maternal (OR: 4.1; 95%CI: 2.4 to 7.1) and paternal eczema (OR: 2.6; 95%CI: 1.4 to 5.0), dust in the child's bedroom (OR: 1.6; 95%CI: 1.1 to 2.4), lower maternal education (OR: 1.7; 95%CI: 1.1 to 2.7), rhinitis fever (OR: 1.7; 95%CI: 1.1 to 2.9) and wheezing in the last year (OR: 1.9; 95%CI: 1.2 to 2.8). CONCLUSIONS: our data suggest that AE has a specific pattern of inheritance. The presence of dust in the child's bedroom was the single environmental risk factor found. Diagnose of other allergic diseases, as well as the presence of recent symptoms were strongly associated with AE in children.
