The organic food market is rapidly expanding all over the world with the recent rise of concern in food safety and environmental protection. Thus, examining information about consumers’ awareness on organic food is one of the inspiring areas for producers and marketers to capture a greater market share successfully. Therefore, this study aimed at analyzing the consumer awareness towards organic food products while addressing socio-demographic factors affecting consumer awareness on organic food, knowledge of consumers about organic food, and their purchasing pattern. A sample of 600 consumers was selected from the main cities of six urban districts in Sri Lanka for the study. Data were collected via a consumer survey using a pre-tested questionnaire, from November 2018 to May 2019. The data analysis was carried out using frequencies, percentages, and multiple linear regression analysis. According to the results, the majority of the respondents were married females. The results revealed that Sri Lankan consumers have a better awareness on organic food. The results of the regression analysis highlighted that the consumers’ awareness is significantly affected by factors such as gender, marital status, education, and monthly income. Although most respondents have a good level of awareness on organic food, their buying trend is at a lower level. The findings of the study play an important role in promoting the organic food market and are essential for food marketing planners, researchers, and policymakers to enhance the organic food industry in the country in the future.

This research investigation aims to examine the urban consumers’ attitude towards organic food, and the factors affecting for their attitude. A consumer survey consisting of a sample of 600 consumers was conducted, using a pre-tested questionnaire, in major cities of six main districts of Sri Lanka during November 2016 - May 2018. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and multiple linear regression analysis. Results revealed that majority of the consumers were married females. Most of them were of 18-40 years of age category and were educated up to the GCE advanced level. The sample’s monthly income ranged from Sri Lankan Rupees 58000 – 85000.  Although the majority of the consumers (75.2%) were aware of organic food, only 11.5% possessed a good knowledge about them. As per the mean analysis, the consumers had a positive attitude towards most aspects of organic food. According to factor analysis, four factors (environmental factors, quality factors, health factors, and marketing factors) were extracted as they are influenced to the consumer attitude for purchasing of organic foods. Results of multiple linear regression analysis revealed a positive relationship between consumers’ attitude and the extracted four factors which were based on the consumers’ attitude on purchasing of organic foods. Main problems faced by consumers in buying organic food were the high price, unavailability of organic food, lack of trust, and lack of market information on organic food. It can be concluded that by providing the necessary conditions such as arranging better marketing facilities with useful market information, a continuous supply of organic foods with reasonable price levels, and enhancing consumer knowledge, will motivate the consumers to purchase more organic food. As relatively low is known about consumers’ purchasing pattern of organic foods in Sri Lanka, findings of this study would be beneficial to the traders and policy makers to formulate effective strategies designed to marketing of organic foods in the country. An investigation of the factors which affect lead time in spinning mills producing carded and combed counts is reported. Data were collected from 27 mills producing 40 Ne Carded Yarn and 9 mills producing 40 Ne Combed Yarn. A number of 13 parameters which affect lead time were identified and they are FQI (Fibre Quality Index), Roving Production, CSP (Count Strength Product), Yarn Realisation, Spindle Production, Top Arm Roller Pressure (Front), Top Arm Roller Pressure (Middle), Top Arm Roller Pressure (Back), End Breaks, UKG, HOK (the number of Operative Hours required to produce 100 kg of yarn), YQI (Yarn Quality Index), Machine Utilisation. Multiple linear regression analysis have been carried out to find out the dominant parameters which affect lead time. While 71.4% of the variables account for lead time in respect of carded counts, about 78.4% of the variables have dominating influence in combed yarns.

This study was conducted to find out factors affecting and level of mussel production, level of efficiency of using the tools and materials in cultivation process and whether the cultivation of mussels in Pasaran. This study was analyzed using Cobb-Douglass. The study were analyzed in quantitative descriptive, multiple linear regression analysis, and analysis of efficiency. The dependent variable (Y) is the result of production of green mussels cultivation and free variables are the number of bamboos (X 1), the amount of strap (X2), grouper (X3) and labor (X4). Mussel fisherman in Pasaran NPM with Px calculated to obtain the level of efficiency of each factors of production in messels cultivation. Studies show that the most influential factors production are variable bamboo, rope and labor. While the results of analysis the level of efficiency of using tools and materials is not efficient. The number of bamboo and labor should be reduced, because it tends to be a waste and not profitable either technically or economically. The value of the return to scale of 1.22 showed cultivation mussels are on increasing return to scale.

This study aims at identifying the determinants of adoption of outsourcing logistic functions in Manufacturing and Trading companies in Sri Lanka. After careful review of the existing literature perceived cost effectiveness, quality concerns of logistics outsourcing, perceived risk and perceived professionalism of logistics service provider were identified for the study as their high theoretical and empirical importance in determining outsourcing decision. Primary data was collected by means of semi structured questionnaire from 60 organizations that carry out manufacturing and trading businesses in Sri Lanka. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and simple and multiple linear regression analysis. Initial simple linear regression analysis proved the statistically significant impact that each of the identified variables have on the adoption of outsourcing. However the multiple regression estimated in this study to analyze the collective effect of the suggested model concludes that the decision makers perception about the cost effectiveness of outsourcing and their perception of risk of outsourcing better explain the adoption of outsourcing in Manufacturing and trading sector in Sri Lanka. Hence, the outsource decision depends on the careful assessment of the decision-making company on its cost effectiveness and possible risk. Therefore, the findings of the present study suggest that outsourcing partners should be carefully selected in order to get the benefit of outsourcing.
