Modified solution precipitation method was used to prepare pure and doped Mg, Sr and Na hydroxyapatite type materials (CaP, CaMgP and CaSrNaP). Modification consisted of partial substitution of nitrates by acetate solution in order to achieve a more soluble and cost effective synthesis. The obtained samples were calcined at 400?C (CaP400, CaMgP400 and CaSrNaP400). All powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Calcined samples were densified at 1000?C in an air for 3 h (CaP1000, CaMgP1000 and CaSrNaP1000). Sintered samples were characterized by XRPD, FTIR, SEM, EDS and complex impedance methods. The highest conductivity was found for the multi-doped phosphate sample (CaSrNaP1000) at 700?C (1.90?10-3?-1cm-1). The corresponding activation energies of conductivity amounted to 0.31 eV in the temperature range 500-700?C.

A facile strategy was proposed to incorporate the dopant Fe into 8YSZ-based material, which can be potentially applied as solid electrode materials for Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC). In this study, 8YSZ powder was investigated in terms of densification, conductivity and thecrystal structure as a solid electrolytes. Therefore, varying mol% of Fe included 1, 2, and 3 were prepared for investigation. The crystalline structure of the pristine and Fe doped samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and the phase contents were evaluated by using the Rietveld method. Rietveld quantitative phase analysis demonstrates that the monoclinic-ZrO2phase increases (12.8 wt% to 39.7 wt%) as the concentration of Fe increases, while the amount of tetragonal-ZrO2phase drop (40.4 wt% to 11.9 wt%) dramatically. Sintering activity was applied to improve incorporation of the 8YSZ powder and the dopant Fe where the relative density increases from 77% to 92%. Sample YSZ-2Fe has been fitted with CPE equivalent circuit and achieved 6.251 x 10-6S/cm at 300 °C in air. However, it was found that conductivity levels decreased as the mol% of Fe increased. In short, sample YSZ-2Fe ceramic demonstrated good results in terms of densification (92.09%), cubic ZrO2phase (22 wt%) and conductivity 6.251 x 10-6S/cm.

ABSTRACTLayered LnBa(Co,Me)2O5+δ (Ln = Nd, Sm, Ho and Y; Me = Fe, Ni, Cu) with double perovskite structure were synthesized by the solid-state reaction and glycerin-nitrate technique and characterized by X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, iodometric titration and dilatometry. Homogeneity ranges for the solid solutions were determined. The oxygen content in LnBa(Co,Me)2O5+δ decreases with decreasing rare-earth cation size. Partial substitution of cobalt by iron increases oxygen content while introduction of copper decrease it. The average thermal expansion coefficients were calculated. Chemical compatibility of studied perovskites with Ce0.8Sm0.2O2 and Zr0.85Y0.15O2 solid electrolytes has been studied.

Hydroxyapatite (HAp) and hydroxyapatite/multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) composites were obtained by the co-precipitation method, followed by ultrasound-assisted and microwave radiation and thermal treatment at 250 °C. X-ray diffraction (XRD) confirmed the presence of a hexagonal phase in all the samples, while Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy elucidated the interaction between HAp and MWCNTs. The photoluminescent technique revealed that HAp and the composite with non-functionalized MWCNTs present a blue luminescence, while the composite with functionalized MWCNTs, under UV-vis radiation shows an intense white emission. These findings allowed presentation of a proposal for the use of HAp and HAp with functionalized MWCNTs as potential materials for optoelectronic and medical applications.

Herein, the microwave-assisted wet precipitation method was used to obtain materials consisting of mesoporous silica (SBA-15) and calcium orthophosphates (CaP). Composites were prepared through immersion of mesoporous silica in different calcification coating solutions and then exposed to microwave radiation. The composites were characterized in terms of molecular structure, crystallinity, morphology, chemical composition, and mineralization potential by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy equipped with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX). The application of microwave irradiation resulted in the formation of different types of calcium orthophosphates such as calcium deficient hydroxyapatite (CDHA), octacalcium phosphate (OCP), and amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) on the SBA-15 surface, depending on the type of coating solution. The composites for which the progressive formation of hydroxyapatite during incubation in simulated body fluid was observed were further used in the production of final pharmaceutical forms: membranes, granules, and pellets. All of the obtained pharmaceutical forms preserved mineralization properties.

In this study, the photocatalytic activity of pure Fe- doped ZnO and Fe- doped ZnO/Montmorillonite nanocomposite has been investigated for the degradation of malachite green under UV light irradiation. Both photocatalysts were synthesized using co-precipitation method and characterized by X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared absorption, and electron spin resonance. The results showed that the photocatalytic efficiency is better in the presence of montmorillonite compared to pure Fe- doped ZnO. To detect the possible reactive species involved in degradation of organic dyes control experiments with introducing scavengers into the solution of organic dyes were carried out. It is found that electron plays an important role in the degradation of malachite green.

Towards the utilization of Cu2O nanomaterial for the degradation of industrial dye pollutants such as methylene blue and methyl orange, the graphene-incorporated Cu2O nanocomposites (GCC) were developed via a precipitation method. Using Hummers method, the grapheme oxide (GO) was initially synthesized. The varying weight percentages (1–4 wt %) of GO was incorporated along with the precipitation of Cu2O catalyst. Various characterization techniques such as Fourier-transform infra-red (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV–visible diffused reflectance (UV-DRS), Raman spectroscopy, thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), and electro chemical impedance (EIS) were followed for characterization. The cabbage-like morphology of the developed Cu2O and its composites were ascertained from field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM). In addition, the growth mechanism was also proposed. The results infer that 2 wt % GO-incorporated Cu2O composites shows the highest value of degradation efficiency (97.9% and 96.1%) for MB and MO at 160 and 220 min, respectively. Further, its catalytic performance over visible region (red shift) was also enhanced to an appreciable extent, when compared with that of other samples.

Hydroxyapatite/chitosan (HApC) composite has been prepared by precipitation method and used for removal of heavy metals (Cr6+, Zn2+and Cd2+) from aqueous solution. The HAp and 3H7C composite with HAp:chitosan ratio of 3:7 (wt%) were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The SEM results showed that HAp is spherical-shaped and crystalline, while chitosan has a flat structure. SEM micrograph of 3H7C composite reveals crystalline of HAp uniformly spread over the surface of chitosan. The crystal structure of HAp is maintained in 3H7C composite. Chitosan affects the adsorption capacity of HAp for heavy metal ions; it binds the metal ions as well as HAp. The kinetic data was best described by the pseudo-second order. Surface adsorption and intraparticle diffusion take place in the mechanism of adsorption process. The binding of HAp powder with chitosan made the capability of composite to removal of Cr6+, Zn2+and Cd2+from aqueous solution effective. The order of removal efficiency (Cr6+> Cd2+> Zn2+) was observed.

A visible-light responsive CdS/ZnO nanocomposite photocatalyst was successfully synthesized by precipitation of CdS nanoparticles, using Cd (NO3)2 and Na2S as starting materials, on ZnO nanoparticles and then calcined at 400°C for 2 hours. The effects of the mole ratio of CdS and ZnO in the composites on their phase, morphology, and surface area were investigated by X-ray Diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), Brunauer Emmett Teller method (BET), respectively. The photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue solution in the presence of composite products under visible-light irradiation was investigated. The results showed that the mole ratio of CdS and ZnO played a significant role on photocatalytic performance. The highest photocatalytic activity was obtained from the CdS/ZnO nanocomposite with mole ratio of 1:4, which is higher than that of pure CdS and pure ZnO.
