The goal of this research study was to develop a conceptualization of the relationship between new digital media and adolescent students' writing of poetry while immersed in using new media. More specifically, the research focused on the performative affordances of new media and how these interacted with the students' creative processes as they created digital poems. The article examines eight themes that emerged during the study, including the multimodal, multilinear and collaborative nature of the poems, the role of audience and identity in the creative process, and the shifting views of poetry the students experienced.

This chapter explores how we can better understand culture by understanding the creative processes that fuel it, and better understand creativity by examining it from its cultural context. First, it summarizes attempts to develop a scientific framework for how culture evolves, and it explores what these frameworks imply for the role of creativity in cultural evolution. Next it examines how questions about the relationship between creativity and cultural evolution have been addressed using an agent-based model in which neural network-based agents collectively generate increasingly fit ideas by building on previous ideas and imitating neighbors’ ideas. Finally, it outlines studies of how creative outputs are influenced, in perhaps unexpected ways, by other ideas and individuals, and how individual creative styles “peek through” cultural outputs in different domains.

In this chapter, the authors discuss the use of digital media in the creation of digital art, questioning the evolution of the relationship between technology and concept in communication through art. The intersection of new media and digital art have been opening interesting and seductive new horizons and in parallel, the concept, the understanding, the legitimacy of artistic creation, the role of the artist and the role of the spectator are also redefined. Based on two experimental works of the artist Henrique Silva, the authors analyze and reflect on the relationship of technology, art and virtuality, focusing on concepts like experience, sensory, immersion, communication and interaction in artworks created through digital media.

Com vistas a subsidiar uma discussão acerca da contribuição de mídias digitais para a definição estético-formal de interfaces gráficas, desenvolveu-se um aplicativo que auxilia na escolha de cores em projetos de Design, denominado Farbe. Para análise de seu uso, inicialmente, revisou-se o referencial teórico sobre processo criativo e uso de cor na comunicação visual. Na sequência, desenvolveu-se o aplicativo para a realização de um experimento com alunos de Ensino Superior de Tecnologia em Produção Multimídia, em uma disciplina presencial de Novas Mídias. Após o uso do Farbe por esses alunos, mediu-se e classificou-se suas avaliações sobre o quanto o aplicativo os auxiliou, efetivamente, na escolha das cores de seus projetos. Por meio de levantamento e organização desses dados, foi possível extrair reflexões sobre a utilização de mídias digitais destinadas a servirem como ferramentas em processos criativos para o desenvolvimento de projetos em Design. In order to improve a discussion about digital media contribution to the graphic interfaces aesthetic-formal definition, a mobile app has been developed to assist the colour pallet definition in Design projects development, called Farbe. To analyze its use, a theoretical review about creative process and the application of colour in the visual communication was made. Afterwards, and based on theoretical review, the app was developed to carry out an experiment with undergraduate students of Technology in Multimedia Production, in a New Media discipline. After the use of Farbe by these students, their evaluations were measured and analyzed regarding aspects about the contribution of digital media tools in the context of creative processes on Design projects development.

IMPORTING TEXTS FROM ABROAD Editors’ reuse of foreign historical texts in Dutch periodicals, 1780-1860 This article explores the ways in which the editors of five Dutch history journals and three magazines for general circulation copied historical texts from abroad, between 1780 and 1860. By comparing original texts with reprinted versions, we show that the editors’ work involved not only ‘passive’ duplication (reprinting in full), but also more active forms of intervention, from the selection of text fragments to their translation, modification or critical review. These varied editorial practices point to a broader creative process through which historical knowledge was tailored to an emerging and nationally-oriented academic audience. Editors here assumed the role of mediators, gatekeepers even in the sense that their judgment determined the very choice of texts. At a time when the study of history was evolving at both the national and international level, and when the relationship between actors making up the disciplinary field was also in flux, editors thus became influential figures.

The article presents the relationship between the Internet, the state and politics. It starts from describing similarities between politics and social aspects of the Internet. This is described in the context of Web 2.0, collective intelligence, informal circuits of cultural content and multitasking. Then two perspectives of the functioning of the Internet in the contemporary state and politics are shown. The first, which is a top-down perspective, describes the concepts of e-government and e-participation. The second one, which is bottom-up, refers to new types of election campaigns as well as the role of new media in social change. In conclusion, there are some questions regarding cyberdemocracy and digital citizenship.

The wide range of questions that this topic raises lead us to think about the training of teachers, their continuous work and improvement. Following this paragraph, we conclude that a textbook/manual, which would deal with the relationship between the Internet and teaching, or the continuous organization of seminars and trainings, is a necessity for literature teachers. In addition to the teacher's knowledge of the coexistence of literature and new media, it is necessary to pay special attention to the critical attitude of students towards Internet content and to point out the purposeful use of newspapers in the teaching process. The role of teachers in modern timesis not favorable because things related to their profession are rapidly developing: new genres appear, tendencies in study and creation change, communication media are continuously changing, and on the other hand teaching it self must undergo changes and transformations. Nevertheless, proven methodological principles always exist, at least as the essence of teaching, regardless of which teaching aids were used and in what way in class. The Internet content and the opportunities it provides have proven to be stimulating and close to the students, so the teacher can use them, with the awareness that the teaching aid must not overshadow the content that is being processed.

This chapter reviews the relationship between the media and the Umbrella Movement. The mainstream media, aided by digital media outlets and platforms, play the important role of the public monitor in times of major social conflicts, even though the Hong Kong media do so in an environment where partial censorship exists. The impact of digital media in largescale protest movements is similarly multifaceted and contradictory. Digital media empower social protests by promoting oppositional discourses, facilitating mobilization, and contributing to the emergence of connective action. However, they also introduce and exacerbate forces of decentralization that present challenges to movement leaders. Meanwhile, during and after the Umbrella Movement, one can also see how the state has become more proactive in online political communication, thus trying to undermine the oppositional character of the Internet in Hong Kong.

AbstractPreliminary studies have indicated that childhood emotional maltreatment (i.e., abuse and neglect) can be associated with higher cyberbullying perpetration (CBP) among university students. The purpose of the present study was to test the direct and indirect effects of childhood emotional abuse (CEA) on CBP via trait mindfulness and trait emotional intelligence (TEI). A total of 470 adolescent students participated in the study and completed a questionnaire comprising measures of the aforementioned variables. Path analysis showed that trait mindfulness, but not TEI, was a partial mediator between CEA and CBP among the total sample, males, and females. Results indicated that there were other factors that explain the relationship between CEA and CBP in addition to lower mindfulness. These findings suggest that developing mindfulness-based intervention programs for adolescents who have been emotionally abused as a child may reduce their engagement in cyberbullying. This study is the first to document the direct role of CEA on CBP and indirect via trait mindfulness among adolescents.

The aim of the article is to popularize and attempt to reflect on the phenomenon of visuality in various areas of life in the age of new media. The first part of the text introduces the meaning of the term 'visualization' and shows various dimensions of visuality, which is an attempt to validate the assumption about the leading role of image in the modern world. The next part presents the main characteristics of visuality. Visuality is a mean of communication, description of events and expressing emotions. Visual objects affect both the cognitive and emotional sphere, which is the reason behind the constant increase of importance of the message with their participation. The last part of the article contains analysis of the positive and negative aspects of visuality. The dual nature of modern visual messages is associated with the specifics of digital media. The ease of creating and sending images in the era of new media leads to overload of the space with visual objects.

The present research paper is an attempt to understand the role of mediating variables in the relationship of cause related marketing and customer Value. Based on the literature review, the role of service quality and perceived risk as mediators has been analysed in depth. The data for the study has been collected from mobile subscribers of the select telecom companies that were running cause campaigns. The results of the research showed higher total effect than direct effect, which signalled the role of mediators in the relationship of cause related marketing and customer value. Furthermore it is evident from the analysis that service quality has a direct and significant impact on the relationship of Cause related marketing and customer value, as compared to the perceived risk. This research study emphasizes the role of Cause Related Marketing in enhancing customer value via service quality.
