Crisis communications experts commonly advise managers to get out ahead of the media to increase management's credibility. We use an experiment to examine how investors' responses to management getting out ahead of a negative media story are moderated by management's action plan and the media's focus on the company. When the company is the focus of the media's lede, investors respond more negatively when the company gets out ahead of the media with plans to change, instead of stay, the course to handle the negative issue. Yet, investors respond more positively when the company responds after the media with plans to change, instead of stay, the course. In contrast, when the media does not focus on the company in its lede, but instead only mentions the company in the story, we find that investors' responses are not sensitive to management's strategic disclosure choices that we examine.

Abstract A series of water samples and Secchi depth measurements were conducted in Hamilton Harbour between 1987 and 1995. The data indicate little recent improvement in the harbour generally. Detection of real improvements may require high frequency sampling and a more extensive sample grid once a cause for improvement is in place. Some measures, such as chlorophyll and Secchi depth, approach RAP initial goals sometimes during recent years, but algal blooms still occur, which prevent attainment of satisfactory average conditions. The cause of aesthetic improvements in water clarity reported in the media was investigated with sampling along an inshore-offshore transect and intense Secchi measurements in the LaSalle Park area. The data are consistent with a transient clarifying effect of zebra mussels on structures near shore. The need to reduce nutrient loads as recommended in the Remedial Action Plan continues.

This article explores the role of trust in professional and alternative media as (a) antecedents of citizen news production, and (b) moderators of the effect of citizen news production on political participation. Using two-wave panel survey data collected in the United States between December 2013 and March 2014, results show that trust in citizen media predicts people’s tendency to create news. In turn, citizen news production is a positive predictor of both offline and online participation. More importantly, trust in the media moderates the effect of citizen news production over online political participation. Overall, this article highlights the importance of trust in the media with respect to citizen news production and how it matters for democracy. Thus, this study casts a much-needed light on how media trust and citizen journalism intertwine in explaining a more engaged and participatory citizenry.

AbstractIntroduction:The discussions in this theme provided an opportunity to address the unique hazards facing the Pacific Rim.Methods:Details of the methods used are provided in the preceding paper. The chairs moderated all presentations and produced a summary that was presented to an assembly of all of the delegates. Since the findings from the Theme 3 and Theme 7 groups were similar, the chairs of both groups presided over one workshop that resulted in the generation of a set of action plans that then were reported to the collective group of all delegates. Results:The main points developed during the presentations and discussion included: (1) communication, (2) coordination, (3) advance planning and risk assessment, and (4) resources and knowledge.Discussion:Action plans were summarized in the following ideas: (1) plan disaster responses including the different types, identification of hazards, focusing training based on experiences, and provision of public education; (2) improve coordination and control; (3) maintain communications, assuming infrastructure breakdown; (4) maximize mitigation through standardized evaluations, the creation of a legal framework, and recognition of advocacy and public participation; and (5) provide resources and knowledge through access to existing therapies, the media, and increasing and decentralizing hospital inventories. Conclusions:The problems in the Asia-Pacific rim are little different from those encountered elsewhere in the world. They should be addressed in common with the rest of the world.

Internet and social media, as highly interactive platforms, enable two way-communication and content generation which was unprecedented in history. In the past, the media were decisive about content that should be presented, and what public impact it might have (Giessen, 2015). User-generated content provided an opportunity for single Internet users to reach large audiences in the same way as content originating from the traditional mass-media. Web 3.0 and Meta Web introduced a new myriad of available solutions and opportunities (Tarabasz, 2013). Smart technologies and integration networks of Web 4.0, with an ability to detect intentions and goals of the users and offer solutions based on users` preferences and habits (Benhaddi, 2017) are opening an entirely new dimension of the social media: digital identity becomes part of the identity of the Internet users. According to Trianto, one of the main problems in learning mathematics in schools today is the low absorption of students. The way that can be used to overcome these problems is by using media in learning mathematics. From the results of writing conducted by Luh Made Suriwati, et al, it was found that learning with the help of visual media is more effective in improving student learning outcomes compared to conventional learning methods. One of the media that can be used in learning mathematics is Congklak game media. This type of writing is action research aimed at developing an action plan to improve what is being done now. This writing is descriptive writing, where this writing is writing that really only describes what is contained or occurs in a particular scene, field, or region, namely SD N 1 Toyareka. This writing uses data collection techniques in the form of interviews, observation and documentation while the technical analysis of data uses data reduction, data presentation and data conclusion. The purpose of this writing is to describe the use of Congklak game media in learning mathematics in class IV and the use of Congklak game resources in instilling student character. The results of the writing show that the Congklak media can be used in learning Mathematics of Multiples Small Guilds. Where in the use of the media, the authors modify the game board by giving writing numbers in each hole of the board. Through the use of these media students can actively and enthusiastically participate in chases that have an impact on improving student learning outcomes. In addition, through the use of the Congklak game media can help teachers to convey the concept of Multiple Small Guilds (KPK) easily and at the same time be more acceptable to students. Through the use of congklak game media can also instill the character of students' curiosity. Keywords

AbstractThis paper begins with a letter of thanks from future generations for the wisdom our generation has shown in initiating a Decade of Education for Sustainable Development. It describes the overall goals of the Decade and focuses on the Action Plan being developed by UNESCO to guide its contributions as the international lead agency for the Decade. These are shown to be two-fold. The first is one of leadership, catalysing, coordinating and supporting activities around the world, especially supporting the re-orientation of national education systems and policies in support of sustainable development and encouraging civil society, the private sector and the media to participate. The second is as a substantive implementer of Education for Sustainable Development, itself, helping to create an enabling environment for the achievement of the objectives of the Decade.

In Greece, sport as a tool for the promotion of gender integration and social justice has been included in the upcoming National Action Plan for Gender Equality (NAPGE) for 2021-2025 by the General Secretariat for Demography and Family Policy and Gender Equality of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. The social space of sport is also included in the currently in effect NAPGE, formulated for 2016-2020 by the General Secretariat for Gender Equality (GSGE) of the Ministry of the Interior. This article begins with a presentation of the upcoming-updated NAPGE 2021-2025 and subsequently examines NAPGE 2016-2020 which is currently in effect. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether the strategic goals of the NAPGE are being implemented in the Hellenic Military Higher Education Institutions and specifically in their academic curricula and programs, focusing on coed sport activities. A strategic goal of the NAPGE 2016-2020, as in the one to follow for 2021-2025, is to promote equality in education, culture, sport, and the media. To eliminate gender inequalities the NAPGE, presently in effect in Greek society, sets six strategic goals, and incorporates the gender dimension in all social, political, educational and sports bodies. Following European Commission guidelines, the NAPGE priority areas focus on promoting health; eliminating gender-based violence; supporting equality in education, training, culture, sport, and the media; promoting social integration and equality. As regards education, the main objectives include eliminating gender stereotypes and all forms of discrimination. Research shows that women's sport participation challenges gender stereotypes. Subsequently, women’s integration and gender equality in the military is discussed, using the curricula and sport programs at the five military schools/academies along with the interview data from our previous study with twelve active-duty female officers, former cadets at these five institutions. Our findings indicate that the gender dimension is taken into account: the NAPGE is being implemented, to a certain extent. Our results show that coed sport activities and team sports cultivate acceptance, cohesion, teamwork, and collaborations, leading to women’s integration and inclusion, in addition to a healthier and more productive military environment and culture.

Article visualizations:

An escalating number of crises appear in the sport industry in general and the football industry in particular that make the area of crisis communication an increasingly important matter in both the everyday running and the long-term viability of football. However, the sensitivity of the topic makes an extensive analysis on current practice in crisis communications a particularly challenging task. This study examines how crisis communications is managed by investigating the current practices and techniques employed in English Premier League clubs, as they were presented by communications professionals employed in the clubs. The analysis of the clubs’ practices underlines the lack of proactivity and presents the most popular strategies of crisis-communications management: “Wait for the dust to settle” and “React promptly before the noise grows.” In addition, an underdocumented technique is examined: the use of the informal personal relationships between the employees of the clubs and the members of the media. This study also introduces the “crisis communications management in football” model, which illustrates the practices identified through this study and can potentially act as a guide for crisis-communications analysis in a number of other industries.

SummaryIn 1987 an action plan for the recovery of the European populations of Roseate Tern Sterna dougallii was launched. Intervention on the breeding grounds has included the wardening of sites to prevent human disturbance, the provision of nest-boxes to discourage predation, patrolling and controlling to reduce predator presence, planting of Lavatera arborea to shelter nesting birds, and use of the media to establish local interest and commitment. Intervention in the wintering area has focused on Ghana and the reduction there of trapping pressure, through the “Save the Seashore Birds Project-Ghana”, which has involved site protection, legal reform, training, surveys and education programmes.
