The era of visual communication influences the cognitive strategies of the individual. Education, too, must adjust to these changes, which raises questions regarding the use of visualisation in teaching. In the present study, we examine the impact of visualisation on the ability of high school students to memorise text. In the theoretical part of the research, we first clarify the concept of visualisation. We define the concept of active visualisation and visualisation as a means of acquiring and conveying knowledge, and we describe the different kinds of visualisation (appearance-based analogies and form-based analogies), specifically defining appearance-based schemata visualisations (where imagery is articulated in a typical culturally trained manner). In the empirical part of the research, we perform an experiment in which we evaluate the effects of visualisation on students’ ability to memorise a difficult written definition. According to the theoretical findings, we establish two hypotheses. In the first, we assume that the majority of the visualisations that students form will be appearance-based schemata visualisations. This hypothesis is based on the assumption that, in visualisation, people spontaneously use analogies based on imagery and schemas that are typical of their society. In the second hypothesis, we assume that active visualisation will contribute to the students’ ability to memorise text in a statistically significant way. This hypothesis is based on the assumption that the combination of verbal and visual experiences enhances cognitive learning. Both hypotheses were confirmed in the research. As our study only dealt with the impact of the most spontaneous type of appearancebased schemata visualisations, we see further possibilities in researching the influence of visualisations that are more complex formally.

Career aspiration is one of the factors that influence one's career maturity. Career aspirations direct individual behavior to achieve the career that is their hopes or dreams. Career aspirations can help students choose a secondary school that matches the abilities and potentials of the individual. The purpose of this study was to analyze the differences in career aspirations of high school students with Minangkabau and Chinese cultural backgrounds. This research uses a comparative descriptive quantitative approach. The population in this study were students of class XI and XII who have Minangkabau and Chinese cultural backgrounds at SMA Negeri 1 Padang and SMA Don Bosco Padang. The research sample was 295 students consisting of 173 Minangkabau students (79 male & 94 female) and 122 Chinese students (64 male and 58 female). The instrument used was the Career Aspiration Level Entry List (DITAK). The measuring instrument used is valid and the reliability coefficient of DITAK is 0.86. Based on the results of the study, there are differences in the level of career aspirations of high school students with Minangkabau and Chinese cultural backgrounds, where the level of career aspirations of Chinese students is higher than that of Minangkabau students. The implication of the results of this study is as discussion material and input for the school in making guidance and counseling service programs, especially in the field of career development.

Homosexuality is defined as romantic attraction, sexual attraction, or sexual behavior between the same sex or gender. Gay is one of the sexual disorders where man is attracted to other straight or gay man. Mostly, teenagers are unaware of this current emerging phenomenon. So, some may get involved or even dragged into this crisis which will lead them to miserable mental state. Their lack of knowledge about the concept and detrimental effect of gay behavior is also the main concern. Hence, a preventive approach should be taken to hinder teenagers, especially male students, from the negative outcome of gay behavior through guidance and counselling program. The paper followed the procedure in descriptive research design. The research population was all public high school students in Padang and there were 100 respondents which was chosen through purposive sampling. Based on the research findings, 15 students (15%) responded in the highest scale, extremely concerned. 23 students (23) were moderately concerned. 58 students (58%) seemed in uncertainty. 4 students (4%) were at loss or slightly concerned facing this crisis. In brief, most students had low awareness of this crisis. Thus, their understanding in gay behavior must be enhanced. The aid offered to help them protect themselves is providing information about the concept of gay behavior, gay characteristics, the causes of gay behavior, the impact of being a homosexual man and how they find a sexual partner through guidance and counseling program.

This study aims to reveal the effect of social media on adolescents among a sample of high school students in Morocco. In fact, the study sample consisted of 68 male and female students equally.to begin with, the importance of the research was manifested in its being a subject of study, within a theoretical framework in which psychology, neurology and information communication technology interact, with the aim of highlighting the impact of these means on the individual in general, and clarifying the brain changes caused by emotional and cognitive functions in particular. Thus, we will conduct an exploratory study on the percentage of social media use among high school students, and clarify the differences related to excessive access to social media according to the gender variable, in order to clarify the impact of social media on the mental health of adolescents, and its relationship to some disorders in this category, and provide a neuro-cognitive explanation about the impact that these means can have on the individual. To achieve the above, we conducted a field study using the Young Scale to measure the intensity of social media use among adolescents. The results of the study concluded that adolescents use social media at an average level, and there are no differences in their use between the sexes, and there is no relationship between the level of intensity of their use and gender.

BackgroundMultiple protective factors at the individual and environmental levels have been associated with prescription opioid misuse (POM) among adolescents. The literature may benefit by extending this research to consider the association between cumulative protective factors and current (ie, within the past 30 days) POM.MethodsThe 2017 Virginia Youth Survey (part of the Youth Risk Behaviour Surveillance System) (N=3697) was used to investigate recent POM and the presence of individual and cumulative protective factors among high school students. Youth were asked to indicate whether they had engaged POM within the past 30 days. A set of protective factors representing youths’ internal assets (eg, aspirational plans for education) and external resources (eg, family meals, safe school environment) were investigated as predictors of current POM, followed by testing of a cumulative protective factor score. Logistic regression models estimated ORs and 95% CIs.ResultsWhen including demographics and risk factors in the model, none of the individual protective factors were significantly associated with current POM. Alternatively, the cumulative protective factor score was significantly associated with a decrease in the odds of current POM.ConclusionsThe cumulative protective factor score was significantly associated with a decrease in the odds of current POM among high school students in Virginia. Programmes designed to provide multiple forms of support may be effective strategies for preventing current POM.

It is observed that environment constitutes a very important part of our life. To understand life without studying the impact of environment is simply impossible. All human activities have an impact on environment. In the past two decades, environment has attracted the attention of decision makers, scientists and even layman in many parts of the world. They are becoming increasingly conscious of issues such as famines, droughts, floods, scarcity of fuel, firewood and fodder, pollution of air and water, problems of hazardous chemicals and radiation, depletion of natural resources, extinction of wildlife and dangers to flora and fauna.

AbstractObjectivesThe study aimed to examine factors associated with past 30 days waterpipe use among high school students in Jakarta, Indonesia.MethodsWe surveyed a multistage cluster random sample of 1,318 students of grade 10th and 11th from 14 schools in Jakarta. Multiple logistic regressions were employed to examine the association between past 30 days waterpipe use with sociodemographic characteristics, cigarettes smoking status, parental and peer use, availability and affordability.ResultsOf 1,318 participants, 3.3% of female and 8.4% of male currently smoked waterpipe. Multivariate analysis revealed that current waterpipe use was significantly associated with family use (AOR: 4.844, 95% CI: 1.225–19.151), friend use (AOR: 2.554, 95% CI: 1.424–4.582), and availability (AOR: 2.143, 95% CI: 1.127–4.076). Being current smokers were six times more likely (AOR: 6.055, 95% CI: 3.123–11.739) to use waterpipe in the past 30 days.ConclusionsThe finding suggests that smoking by a family member, friends, use of conventional cigarettes, and availability are significantly associated with increased probability of current waterpipe used among adolescents.
