Abstract Nowadays, shallot is important horticultural crops in Maluku include in Tual City, Maluku Province. For ensuring the macronutrients level in soil and yield during shallot cultivation, fertilization composed of chemical, organic and bio fertilizer is needed. The objective of field experiment was to evaluate the effect of mixed biofertilizer integrated with organic matter on total nitrogen and available phosphorous in soil as well as shallot yield grown in Vertisols of Tual. The experiment was setup in randomized block design with four treatments of compost and chicken manure amendment with and without biofertilizer containing N-fixing bacteria and P-solubilizing. At the vegetative stage, consortia biofertilizer combined with either compost or chicken manure increased plant height and soil reaction but decreased the available phosphate (P) and didn't change nitrogen (N) total in soil. Chicken manure amendment combined with biofertilizer inoculation increased dry weight of shoots and bulbs even though didn't significantly differ with other treatments. Nonetheles, that treatment resulted in high yield of shallot bulbs up to 14 t/ha.

Tungro disease is one of the important diseases of rice because it has a high potential for causing damage. The use of varieties resistant to the tungro disease effectively prevent an explosion tungro disease. Testing of promising lines resistant to the tungro at several locations is a stage in the breeding program before a line is released as a new variety that has resistance to tungro disease, as well as having the potential for high yields and good adaptation at several locations. Six of tungro resistant promising line (OBSTG02-137, OBSTG02-124, OBSTG02154, OBSTG02-130, OBSTG02-56, dan OBSTG02-37) and four check varieties (Inpari 9 Elo, Tukad Unda, Ciherang, and IR64) were evaluated for their yield potential and adaptability at 16 locations in tungro endemic area during the dry season of 2011-2013. The experiment was arranged in a randomized block design with 3 replications. Each line were transplanted in 4 m x 5 m plot size with plant spacing 25 cm x 25 cm. Observation were made on yield, 50% flowering date, plant heights, panicle number per hill, number filled and unfilled spikelets per panicle, and weigh of 1000 grains in gram. The results showed that effect of genotype x location interaction was significantly different for all component observed. Based on the performance of grain yield and yield components obtained, four lines i.e. OBSTG02-137 (6.74 t/ha), OBSTG02-124 (6.20 t/ha), OBSTG02-154 (6.37 t/ha ), and OBSTG02-130 (5,92 t/ha) has a high yield with the support of filled grain number and weight of 1000 seeds is high. Based on the combined value of bi and the general average of yield, then line OBSTG02-137, OBSTG02-154, and OBSTG02-130 were suitable to adapt to all environments, OBSTG02-124 is adapted in an optimal environment, OBSTG02-56 and OBSTG02-37 were adapted to the less productive environment.

The success of Sorghum varieties introduced to a location is tightly linked to the uses, environmental condition and farmers’ preferences. Also, grain and stover quality needs special attention to enhance the market value. The farmers in Turare village are predominantly sorghum and millet farmers. They cultivate the same varieties of sorghum which are low yielding land races. Experiments were conducted in 2017 and 2018, nine varieties of sorghum were planted in the Agroforestry farm layout of Federal University Dutsin-Ma with the aim of determining the varieties that are high yielding, early and farmers’ preference varieties so that the varieties that are high yielding and preferred by farmers can be multiplied and distributed to the farmers. Four landraces from the local community and five hybrids from Institute for Agricultural Research, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria were used for the study. Complete Randomized Block Design was used for experimental design and the Sorghum varieties were allocated to plots using Random Table Number. In both years, the farmers (male and female) preferred Samsurg 45 and 46 because of their earliness and high yield. Also, the local varieties, Maibakincona and Yargidanwudu have high performance in both years. CSR01 and CSR02, Zago and Jandawa performed poorly in yield and are late varieties. Though Samsorg 40 had high yield but not as high as Samsorg 45, 46, Maibakincona and Yargidanwudu. The study concludes that Samsorg 45 and 46 have a better attribute of early maturity and yield. Also, the local varieties, Maibakincona and Yargidanwudu have high performance in both years and can be improved upon in terms of yield and earliness. This research was conducted in order to compare the performance of the hybrids varieties with the local varieties that the farmers are used to in the area so as to advise the local farmers to use the varieties with the highest performance. This will relatively translate to higher income for the farmers.

Background: Potato seed production with aeroponic technology can produce a large number of seeds, besides that it is also healthy because it uses plant seeds from tissue culture. However, how the quality of aeroponic seeds produced to become the next seed (growth capacity) has not been studied and scientifically informed. This research aimed to obtain the effect of aeroponic seed yields from the low and high plains based on their size on the growth and yield into advanced seeds. Potato seeds used were from the highland and lowland using aeroponic technology. Methods: This research was conducted in the highland (1000 m above sea level) from April to July 2017. Seeds were classified as S ≤ 1 mg, 1 ≤ Md ≤ 10 g and L ≥ 10 g. This research used a randomized block design with seven repetitions. The tried factors were as follows: 1. The origin of aeroponic seeds (A): A1 (lowland), A2 (highland); 2. The size of aeroponic seeds (U): U1 (S), U2 (M), U3 (L). Plant growth parameters included plant height, number of leaves and number of tubers. Result: The data obtained were analyzed using Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at the 5% level. Seeds of aeroponic yields of various sizes that are planted using drip irrigation have the potential to become advanced seeds. The L-size aeroponic seeds from the lowland produced an average of 5.9 tubers with an average weight of 68.4 g.

Effect of nitrogen and bio-fertilizer on growth and productivity of hybrid rice (cv. PHB 71) was assessed during dry seasons of 2017 and 2018 at Research Farm of BCKV under new alluvial zone of West Bengal. The experiment was laid out in factorial randomized block design with 12 treatment combinations having 4 levels of N and 3 types of bio-fertilizer replicated thrice. Application at 180 kg N/ha produced tallest plants at 90 DAT with maximum LAI (60 DAT), DMA (90 DAT), tillers/hill (90 DAT) and CGR (30-60 & 60-90 DAT). The same N rate resulted in highest panicles/m2, panicle length, panicle weight, filled grains/panicle and 1000-grain weight. A decrease in N dose from 180 to 150 kg/ha caused reduction in all those yield components; however, the variation was non-significant except for number of panicles/m2. Maximum grain yield, straw yield and harvest index was also achieved with 180 kg N/ha accounting 120.1, 34.9 and 32.8% more than the values obtained with zero-N; however, it was statistically at par with the yields and HI obtained with 150 kg N/ha. The Azospirillum application increased all the growth parameters, yield components and yield of hybrid rice over other tested bio-fertilizers (Azospirillum > PSB > K mobilizer), accounting 5.9 and 8.8% more than the yields obtained with PSB and K mobilizer. The interaction of N and bio-fertilizer exerted significant effect on growth attributes but failed to record any significant variations in yield components and yield of hybrid rice. The maximum economic benefit was achieved with combined application of 180 kg N/ha and Azospirillum.
