Parental involvement plays a very important role in the development of a child's formal education. Even though there are many benefits of parental involvement, there are many factors that constrain parental involvement. This study explored various management strategies that might serve as guidelines to improve parental involvement in Southern Tshwane primary schools. The conceptual framework that informed this study was Factors that Determine School Effectiveness by Heneveld and Craig as well as Epstein's theory of overlapping spheres and her typology on parental involvement that served as the theoretical framework for this study. A qualitative research approach was the method used for this study, as it allowed the researcher to conduct in-depth interviews with six principals in Southern Tshwane primary schools. An extensive literature study and relevant documents were also examined to collect rich and comprehensive information. The research indicates that most schools comprehend the importance of parental involvement, yet lack structured implementation frameworks for parental involvement. The study recommends that schools need to plan, manage and implement a parental involvement programme according to the unique circumstances of the school.

Pakistani society is facing numerous problems such as intolerance, violence, lying, dishonesty and sexual harassment to mention just a few. Parents and schools have a major role to play in the moral development of children. This mixed methods study examined teachers’ involvement in developing moral values in children from three private sector schools in Karachi, Pakistan. Document analysis of primary schools’ curriculum, in-depth interviews and classroom observations of nine teachers were conducted to understand how moral values are imparted through formal education. Additionally, 240 parents participated in a quantitative survey to investigate parental involvement in the moral development of children. Findings revealed inadequate focus of the schools’ curricula towards moral education, teachers’ limited perceptions and their subsequent lack of contribution to moral development of students. The quantitative data from parents showed satisfactory involvement of parents in moral growth of their children, measuring above 60% for every variable. Data also revealed that parents focus more on instructions rather than discussions about the moral values with their children. Findings highlight the need for coordinated efforts towards moral development of children involving parents, teachers and schools.

The rate of drop outs among indigenous or Orang Asli pupils in primary school is a worrying issue. They were found to be unable to apply the knowledge acquired through formal education systems in Malaysia due to the different 'setting' of the environment. This failure was due to the lack of understanding on how Orang Asli pupils learn, think, and act. The aim of this study was to construct a Forest School framework for the teaching and learning process in Orang Asli primary schools. The qualitative study design involved in-depth interviews with six experts from the Orang Asli community by using semi-structured questions to explore and clarify related sub-constructs. The results showed five elements that need to be incorporated in the syllabus were: indigenous music, herbs and medicine, handicrafts, tools for hunting and forestry. The Forest School framework would serve as a comprehensive guide and reference for policymakers as indigenous knowledge elements need to be incorporated in primary school's syllabus to ensure life sustainability of Orang Asli in the forest. Teachers could take advantage to help Orang Asli pupils to feel more enthusiastic and motivated in processing the knowledge given in classrooms as it hits close to their environment.

Our service as the principal in a very remote school under Mongar District evoked our conscience in realizing the impact of parental involvement in homework on children’s learning. Being in the farm with many daily chores and activities, the parents’ concern for children’s learning was left as a secondary option. The parents have vital roles to play in the life of a child. The involvement of parents determines the future of the child, and the parental involvement was seen as a means to bridge the gap between the school and home. Family is the primary cell of society where the child's upbringing must begin since his birth. The researcher used the qualitative approach and phenomenology as a research design. The study involved twelve interview participants, comprising of 3 principals, 3 teachers, 3 students and 3 parents from the participating schools in Yadi Cluster under Mongar District. The data were collected through the use of semi-structured interviews. The interviews were audio-taped, transcribed, and then analyzed using a thematic analysis approach, and compared to previous research gleaned from the extensive literature review. The findings of the study reveal that there are contextual factors that contribute to less parental involvement in their children’s homework. There is a lack of parental care, especially in terms of academic support from parents in their children's learning in the remote setting of Bhutan. Basic education for parents is felt highly required to enable them to realize their support for their children in writing homework to perform better in the school. Non-formal Education (NFE) centers are recommended to be the platform to address the issues.
