Abstract The increasing prevalence of obesity among high-school students is a public health problem, as more and more children are facing it.[5] Education has a great impact on the way young people deal with this problem. A significant effect on the behaviour of the pupils is the background they have, differences between children from rural areas compared to children from urban areas in terms of BMI being documented. A number of 185 high-school students from two schools in Constanta, from urban and rural areas were interviewed and data about height and weight was collected. The results show that there is no statistically significant difference of the height between teenagers from urban and rural area, but there is a statistically significant association between area and BMI-z score distribution. Also, a higher number of teenagers from urban area underestimate their weight status compared to teenagers from rural areas.

An attempt was made in the present investigation to study the impact of gender and locality and type of management on self condence among high school students. The present study consists of 400 students studying in government and private high schools in rural and urban areas in Kadapa District of Andhra Pradesh State. The subjects were in the age group of 14-17 years and using purposive random sampling method. Self-condence Inventory developed by Basavanna (1975) was used to collect the data. A 2×2×2 factorial design was employed and ANOVA was used to analyse the data. Findings of the study revealed that gender, type of management and locality have signicant impact on self condence among high school students.

Background:Commuting reflects an important opportunity for youth to engage in physical activity. This study aimed to compare modes of commuting to school and to work and to identify sociodemographic factors associated with various modes of transportation.Methods:Epidemiologic study with a repeated cross-sectional design. Participants included high school students (15–19 years of age) from Santa Catarina state, Brazil, in 2001 (n = 5028) and 2011 (n = 6529). A questionnaire containing information on the type of transport used to commute to school and to work was administered.Results:Walking/bicycling and the use of the bus to commute to school and to work remained stable after a decade; however, the use of car/motorcycle to school (6.4% versus 12.6%) and to work (10.2% versus 19.7%) increased significantly. In both cases, females more frequently used buses, whereas males commuted to work by car/bus. Students from rural areas more commonly commuted to school by car/motorcycle, whereas those from urban areas traveled to work more by bus. There was a greater use of cars/motorcycles by young people from higher-income families.Conclusions:The use of cars/motorcycles to commute to school/work has almost doubled in the last decade. Sex, residential area and income were associated with passive commuting.

Abstract:Student errors in solving Mathematical problems are often found by writers in rural schools, and it possibly happened in schools in the city too. This article tries to analyze the mistakes of high school students in rural and urban areas in solving math problems. This research is qualitative with a research location in two schools, each as an interpretation of schools in rural and urban areas. The results found that students in a rural and urban school in principle there an error in solving problems. High school students in urban areas tend to make procedural errors while rural high school students in addition to making procedural errors also tend to make computational skills mistakes. Abstrak:Kesalahan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal-soal Matematika sering penulis temukan pada sekolah di pedasaan, namun demikian tidak menutup kemungkinan juga terjadi pada sekolah di perkotaan. Artikel ini mencoba menganalisis kesalahan siswa SMA di Pedesaan dan Perkotaan dalam menyelesaikan soal matematika. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan loaksi penelitian di dua sekolah yang masing-masing sebagai interpretasi sekolah yang berada di pedesaan dan perkotaan. Hasil penelitian diperoleh bahwa siswa yang bersekolah di pedesaan maupun perkotaan pada prinsipnya ditemukan adanya kesalahan dalam menyelesaikan soal. Siswa SMA di perkotaan cenderung untuk melakukan kesalahan prosedur sedangkan siswa SMA di pedesaan selain melakukan kesalahan prosedur juga cenderung melakukan kesalahan keterampilan komputasi.

Abstract Introduction. The purpose of the study was to assess physical fitness based on using FITNESSGRAM test battery in Slovak high school students. Material and methods. The reference sample consisted of 1,016 high school students from schools located in the Prešov self-governing region. Students were tested for physical fitness components using selected Fitnessgram test items. In addition, students performed 20-meter endurance shuttle run to determine their level of cardiorespiratory fitness and 10-second jumping test on a jumping ergometer to determine their lower-body explosive power. Results. Results of one-way ANOVA showed significant differences for curl-up test (p = .012) between 15-year-old boys and 18-year-old boys. There were no differences between boys living in rural areas and their age-matched counterparts living in urban areas. Contrary to boys, girls from rural areas had higher level of abdominal strength (p = .046; d = .19). In the 20-meter endurance shuttle run, boys averaged 448.87 meters more than girls. Conclusions. This study enables to create norm-referenced standards, which through their content will to a great extent indicate the measures of physical fitness.

The increasing use of smartphone among young people is creating negative effects and is an important public health problem in many countries. Smartphone abuse and addiction may cause physical and psychological disorders among users. However, the awarenes on this issue has been inadequate due to lacking of evidence. Objectives: To describe the current situation of smartphone using among students at highschools and universities in Hue city and to examine the relationship between smartphone using and sleep disturbances and psychological disstress among participants. Methods: A cross-sectional study with a randomly selected sample of 1,150 students at highschools and universities in Hue city. SAS-SV scale was used to evaluate phone addiction status, K10 scale was used for psychological distress assessment and PSQI scale was used to examine the sleep quality. Results: The proportion of students at highschools and universities having smartphones was 78.0%. The rate of smartphone addiction among high school students was 49.1% and that among university students was 43.7%. There was 57.3% of high school students had poor sleep quality, and that of university students was 51.6%. There was a statistically significant association between smartphone addiction and sleep disturbances and psychological disstress among participants (p <0.05). Conclusion: The prevalence of smartphone addiction among students at highschools and universities is alarming and is related to sleep disturbances and psychological disstress among participants. There is a strong call to develop intervention to help students to aware and manage the use of smartphone effectively.

Many countries have incorporated computational thinking (CT) and programming languages into their science and technology courses. Students can improve their CT ability by learning programming languages. Moreover, situated learning enables students to generate knowledge and master problem-solving skills through interaction with situations. This study incorporated Webduino learning and the situated learning strategy into a programming course and analyzed its impact on high school students’ CT ability, learning motivation, and course satisfaction. A quasi-experimental research method was adopted, wherein the experimental group was subjected to the situated learning strategy and the control group was subjected to a traditional teaching method. The study results revealed that integrating Webduino programming with situated learning could effectively improve five categories of CT skills; moreover, the activity models of situated learning enhanced the value and expectation dimensions of learning motivation. In addition, satisfaction with the course content and self-identity slightly improved. However, because teachers were required to elaborate on stories to promote learner engagement with life situations, the time available for programming was limited. Thus, no significant difference was observed in teaching satisfaction.

The possible relationships among creativity, intelligence, and self actualization were examined in 208 high school students to determine whether or not consistent self actualization scores existed for subjects high in the first two variables. Students high in both creativity and intelligence had significantly higher scores in self actualization than those obtained by students high in either creativity or intelligence. No significant difference in self actualization was found between students high in creativity only and those high in intelligence only. The results were interpreted as indicating that educational systems should stress both intellectual and creative abilities to achieve the highest level of psychological well being in students.

Objective: To compare the frequency of consumption of fruits, vegetables and soft drinks among adolescents living in urban and rural areas of Pernambuco State. Methods: A cross-sectional study based on secondary analysis of data from a representative sample of high school students in Pernambuco (n = 4,207, 14 - 19 years) was conducted. Data were collected through a previously validated questionnaire. Adolescents who reported a daily consumption of soft drinks and occasional consumption of fruits, juices and vegetables were classified as exposed to inadequate standard of consumption of these foods. The independent variable was the place of residence (urban/rural). Data were analyzed by frequency distribution, χ2 test and binary logistic regression. Results: It was observed that students residing in rural areas had a higher prevalence of occasional consumption of natural fruit juices (37.6%; 95%CI 36.1 - 39.0) than those living in urban areas (32.1%; 95%CI 30.7 - 33.6). The proportion of students exposed to daily consumption of soft drinks was higher among those who reported they lived in urban areas (65.0%; 95%CI 63.5 - 66.4) compared to those who reported living in rural areas (55.3%; 95%CI 53.8 - 56.9). Conclusion: Adolescent students living in rural areas had a higher prevalence of low consumption of natural fruit juices while those residing in urban areas had a higher prevalence of daily consumption of soda drinks.
