Feeling of Loneliness in Deaf Adolescents: the Effect of an Online Life Skills Program

Abstract The aim of the current study was to investigate the effect of life skills training on the reduction of feeling of loneliness among deaf and hard of hearing adolescents.This study had a pretest-post test with control and experimental group design using convenience sampling. The Feelings of Loneliness Questionnaire developed by Dehshiri (1387) was filled in by 275 individuals who were joined in a special social network for the deaf. The age rang of the sample group was from 17 to 37. Thirty of them who had the lowest scores in feelings of loneliness were randomly assigned to two fifteen-person groups. The experimental group received online life skills-based education, while the control group received no intervention. The training was performed in ten 120- minutes sessions. The data were analyzed by ANCOVA and repeated measures test. The results indicated that the online life skills-based training program reduced feelings of loneliness caused by a lack of interaction with friends and family in deaf adolescents. According to the results of this study life skills are so important for deaf adolescents and paying attention to these skills is a social necessity through which the mental health of individuals with hearing impairment and deafness can be improved. In addition, regarding the effectiveness of online life skills-based education and considering the inaccessibility of conventional consultation for all of individuals with hearing impairment and deafness, online counseling and also online social, cognitive, and consultative rehabilitation can be used and is recommended in other domains.

Adolescence is considered as a crucial stage for emotional development. It is also seen as a time of hyper-emotionality, emotional conflict, and volatile mood states. Given that adolescents lack skills for emotional management, emotional distress during these years can hamper their immediate growth and adversely affect their transition to the next stage of life. Interventions that promote positive emotional development during adolescence are the need of the hour. Keeping this in focus, the present study investigated the Effect of Life Skills Training on Adolescent boys and girls with high Emotional Distress. The study used pre- and post-test experimental design with a control group to examine the stated objectives. 160 adolescent boys and girls (n=80), with a mean age of 16.44 years, were selected for the study using Positive and Negative Affect Schedule. Of these, 80 in the experimental group (boys=40, girls=40) were trained in life skills. Descriptive statistics, independent sample t-test and repeated measures of ANOVA were used to analyze obtained results. Major findings of the study indicate that Life Skills training has significant effect in reducing emotional distress and improving emotional health in adolescents. And the significance of it was found to be higher in girls compared to boys.

Background: Effective communication and the establishment of a good communication model among individuals have a prominent role in adaptation and can play an essential role in creating the psychological well being of married students. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of basic life skills training on adaptability and psychological well being in married female students. Methods: The present study was a semi-experimental with pre-test and post-test with the control group. A sample of 40 female undergraduate students of Qaemshahr Azad University University in the academic year of 2017-2018 was selected with convenience sampling and divided into 2 experimental and control groups randomly (each group 20 student). The experimental group received eight sessions of basic life skills training in 2 sessions of 90 minutes per week. Control group received no training. In order to collect information, Bell’s adaptive scale and psychological well-being questionnaire used. Covariance analysis by SPSS-22 software was used to analyze the data. Results: results of covariance analysis showed that the training of basic skills of life increased the adaptability (P<0.001) and psychological well-being (P<0.001) in the experimental group compared to the control group at the post-test stage. Conclusion: According to the results of the current study, it can be used basic life skills training as an effective way to increase the psychological well-being and student adaptability.

Background: Communication is the way how a physician interacts with the patient; it should have nonverbal, verbal and para-verbal components. This study was designed for communication skill training on newly graduated medical and dental physicians and to compare the outcomes of training in terms of pretest and post-test results among experimental group and control groups. Materials & methods: It was a randomized, prospective, interventional study performed on newly graduated medical and dental physicians, recruited from four participating centres: Chittagong Medical College, Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital Medical College, Southern Medical College & Hospital and Chattagram International Dental College. Duration of study was from 1st January 2017 to 30th August 2017. After selecting 60 participants (experimental group: 50; control group: 10) by lottery method, informed consent was taken and all the participants of both groups appeared at a pre-test. Only experimental group attended the training program and both the groups appeared at post-test. Results: When pre-test and post-test values of experimental group was compared by t-test, the p values for proper introduction, verbal, non-verbal, para-verbal and total scores were 0.00, 0.00, 0.00, 0.00 and 0.00 respectively. During comparison post-test scores in experimental and control groups by ANCOVA, the p values for proper introduction, verbal, non-verbal, para-verbal and total scores were 0.00, 0.00, 0.00, 0.00 and 0.00 respectively. Conclusions: There was significant improvement in communication skill of physicians after receiving the training with no possibility of occurring those changes by chance. If appropriate, the results can be utilized to approach for formal introduction of communication skills training for pre-intern physicians. J MEDICINE JAN 2020; 21 (1) : 3-7

The aim of this research is to investigate the effect of the Dealing with Homophobia Psycho-Education Program on homophobia levels of psychological counselor candidates. This research was conducted with a mixed model and utilized quantitative and qualitative methods. 2 (experimental and control groups) x 3 (pre-test, post-test, follow-up) research design which is a type of quasi-experimental design was used and content analysis was applied to the data obtained via interviews. The study was conducted with a total of 24 psychological counselor candidates, 12 in the experimental group and, 12 in the control group. The Homophobia Scale was used to determine the homophobia levels of psychological counselor candidates. The Dealing with Homophobia Psycho-Education Program was developed by the researcher. In order to determine the effectiveness of the program, The Two-Way Analysis of Variance with Repeated Measures was used. As a result of the research, it was determined that the Dealing with Homophobia Psycho-Education Program is effective in decreasing the levels of homophobia of the psychological counselor candidates. Also, according to the participant&#39;s views, it was determined that the psycho-education program was effective in decreasing homophobia and caused changes in attitudes. The importance and necessity of using the program on psychological counselor education are discussed.

This study aimed to determine whether the levels of career adaptability resources could be increased through the use of a portfolio writing strategy. Based on a mixed methods approach, the study used the design quasi-experimental, with two independent groups and with repeated measures, together with a focus group. Forty students (17 from the experimental group; 23 from the control group) in university-work transition completed the Portuguese version of the Career Adaptation Scale. The pre-test survey was administered at the beginning of the semester of the curricular unit of personal and professional development project (PPDP) in both groups. This was followed, in the experimental group, by a fourteen-week portfolio writing intervention, under the PPDP. In the control group, the PPDP followed the traditional expository teaching methodology. After completing the intervention procedure, post-test research was conducted byboth groups. Five students from the experimental group also participated in a focus group of feedback on the writing of portfolios under the PPDP. The results revealedthat writing the portfolios contributed to a career adaptability resources increase as well as for the confidence, self-knowledge and knowledge of the market opportunities of these students. The use of portfolios in the PPDP unit course is recommended.

This study with purpose, investigates the effects of good parent skills training to decreaseverbal aggression by parent. The experimental design-using pre-test, post-test with control group isapplied. Subject this sudy is 80 parets from GFC School Juanda, Sidoarjo East Java. 80 parentsgived pre test examined with verbal aggression questionnaire, 40 parent who received high score intest verbal aggression were randomly replaced in experimental and control groups. Each 20 parentsin experimental and 20 parents in control groups. During good parent training in experimentalgroup received about verbal agression and impact, comunication skills, and management stress in 3sessions of 5 hour in three weeks Then both experimental and controlgroups are measured withverbal aggression questionnaire post-tests. The results shows the deferences betwen mean pre testexperimental group and mean post test experimental group is 41,3500 P = 0,000 (< 0,05) that goodparent training has leaded to decreasing verbal aggression by parents.Keywords : Verbal Agression, Good Parent Training

Abstract: The aim of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of study skills training on the qualitative academic achievement of girl high school students. This study was conducted by using an experimental design with pretest, posttest, and follow-up with the control group. The participants were 32 students from girl high school students of Tehran which were selected by cluster random sampling from girl high schools and then randomly assigned into control and experimental groups (Each group consisted of 16 students). The instruments used were Dortaj Qualitative Academic Achievement Questionnaire and Motevalli Study Skills Training Module. The experimental group received 8 sessions of psycho-educational group therapy and the control group did not receive any training. Two-way repeated-measures ANOVA was utilized for the analysis of data. Results revealed that there was a significant increase in qualitative academic achievement between pretest with post-test and follow-up among the experimental group. Moreover, there was a significant increase in qualitative academic achievement between post-test and follow-up in the experimental group with the control group. Additionally, the results showed that there is a significant increase in self-efficacy, planning, and motivation and also a significant decrease in emotional effects and lack of outcome control. In conclusion, the results of this study indicated that on the basis of deficit theory using learning and study skills training can lead to enhance student's skills to improve qualitative academic achievement. Further studies are required to examine whether exposing students to study skills training programs can lead them to enhance their qualitative academic achievement.   Keyword: Motivation Study Skills Training, Planning, Qualitative Academic Achievement, Self-efficacy.

Due to the negative consequences of being bullied and the increase in cyberbullying among adolescents, there is a need for evidence-based programs to prevent and intervene in these types of peer violence. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the Prev@cib bullying and cyberbullying program, drawing on three theoretical frameworks: the ecological model, empowerment theory, and the model of personal and social responsibility. The Prev@cib program was evaluated using a repeated-measures pre-post-test design with an experimental group and a control group. The sample consisted of 660 adolescents between 12 and 17 years old (M = 13.58, SD = 1.26), randomly assigned to the experimental and control groups. Repeated-measures ANOVA of pre-post-test scores were conducted. Results showed a significant decrease in bullying and victimization and cyberbullying and cybervictimization in the experimental group, compared to the control group, indicating that the Prev@cib program is effective in reducing bullying and cyberbullying. Taking into account the harmful effects of these types of violence, the results have important implications in the prevention of these behaviors because they provide scientific evidence of the program’s effectiveness.

The present study examined the effectiveness of nonviolent communication (NVC) workshop on marital adjustment. The hypothesis was receiving nonviolent communication (NVC) workshop has positive impact on marital adjustment. The independent variable was NVC workshop and the dependent variable was marital adjustment score. For conducting this research, repeated measures design was followed and 20 Bangladeshi married people participated in it. The results have shown that there was a statistically significant difference (F = 16.790, p < 0.05) in marital adjustment score of experimental group over the three time periods and pairwise comparisons indicate that there was significant difference between pretest and post-test and also between pretest and follow- up test at the 0.05 level. Results also have shown that, there was statistically significant difference of marital adjustment score between experimental and control group in posttest (t = 4.276, p < 0.05) and follow-up test (t = 4.176, p < 0.05). Thus, after receiving NVC workshop the marital adjustment score of experimental group increased significantly (F = 16.79, p < 0.001) in post-test measure and also remain constant in follow-up, whereas the marital adjustment score of control group had no significant change. The aim of this study is to search core exercise&rsquo;s affect which is done regulary with female students for 8 weeks on students&rsquo; balance programs. 20 volunteer female participants who were students of Osman Nuri Yalman High school (ten of them were experimental group and ten of them were control group) were included in the study. In the survey, experimental method with pretest-posttest desing was used. Core exercise was applied on experimental group three days a week during 8 weeks on the other hand no exercise was done with control group. SPSS (Ver.20) packet program was used while analyzing data statistically. Before the analysis, normality distribution was determined by being used skewness-kurtosis and hitogram and significance level was controlled according to the greenhouse-geisser and two-way repeated measures of anova values. According to the results of the survey, significant difference was found between two groups&rsquo; pre-test&ndash;post-test balance values (F(2.69, 48.36) = 42.25, p &lt; .05). The post-test balance values of the group in 8 directions increased significantly. When the pos-test balance values between the two groups were compared, the post- test balance values of the experimantal group participants were significantly higher than the control group participants (F(1.18) = 6.20, p &lt; .05). Consequently; it can be said that core training applied to the high school level female students three days a week for 8 weeks can have a positive effect on balance performance.
