Abstract Nowadays, it is quite evident how the "age of information" is causing the school to lose its privileged role towards knowledge and its distribution. Paradoxically, the targeted decentralization of the education system - at the same time -is accompanied by the tightening of centralized control mechanisms. This is applied through the "action" of national testing, increasing demands for performance, professional and scientific competencies.In this context, the world of the educational leader is seen as one of increasing change, complexity, diversity, and intensity. It has also been portrayed as a world of great responsibility. The growing importance of educational leadership and management is evidenced not only by reference to the increase number of research on the leadership in education, but also to the increasing preparedness of governments to invest in the leadership of the education system.Information Technology has influenced the outbreak of ideas - somehow confusing approaches and policies related to borrowed or copied models - that have caused a diffusion of ideas in this field. Some quality issues in literature, the way of selecting (appointing) leaders in education, as well as the job training or organized training formats, will be addressed in this study.The purpose of this study, is to present the need for training leaders - the development and transformation to achieve leadership effectiveness - and to recommend some forms and methods to complete the leader’s formation.Regardless of whether a subject, will graduate at a university or get certified at a training from a licensed institution, there is a common challenge to be addressed: what is the necessary set of knowledge, skills, values attitudes and competencies, that each program should address on the formation of educational leaders.

Educational leaders in rural schools across the world face distinctive challenges. In this chapter, the authors report the findings of two studies examined through narrative inquiry conducted in a Garifuna and Ketchi Mayan village in Central America. The case studies explore the role of the principal as a strategic leader to improve the education system, and the impact of these leaders in their communities. By sharing these stories, the authors illustrate the importance of strategic thinking, as well as both transformative and servant leadership to promote change.

A joint center has been established by the University of Pittsburgh and the Excerpta Medica Foundation. The basic objective of the Center is to seek ways in which the health sciences community may achieve increasingly convenient and economical access to scientific findings. The research center will make use of facilities and resources of both participating institutions. Cooperating from the University of Pittsburgh will be the School of Medicine, the Computation and Data Processing Center, and the Knowledge Availability Systems (KAS) Center. The KAS Center is an interdisciplinary organization engaging in research, operations, and teaching in the information sciences.Excerpta Medica Foundation, which is the largest international medical abstracting service in the world, with offices in Amsterdam, New York, London, Milan, Tokyo and Buenos Aires, will draw on its permanent medical staff of 54 specialists in charge of the 35 abstracting journals and other reference works prepared and published by the Foundation, the 700 eminent clinicians and researchers represented on its International Editorial Boards, and the 6,000 physicians who participate in its abstracting programs throughout the world. Excerpta Medica will also make available to the Center its long experience in the field, as well as its extensive resources of medical information accumulated during the Foundation’s twenty years of existence. These consist of over 1,300,000 English-language _abstract of the world’s biomedical literature, indexes to its abstracting journals, and the microfilm library in which complete original texts of all the 3,000 primary biomedical journals, monitored by Excerpta Medica in Amsterdam are stored since 1960.The objectives of the program of the combined Center include: (1) establishing a firm base of user relevance data; (2) developing improved vocabulary control mechanisms; (3) developing means of determining confidence limits of vocabulary control mechanisms in terms of user relevance data; 4. developing and field testing of new or improved media for providing medical literature to users; 5. developing methods for determining the relationship between learning and relevance in medical information storage and retrieval systems’; and (6) exploring automatic methods for retrospective searching of the specialized indexes of Excerpta Medica.The priority projects to be undertaken by the Center are (1) the investigation of the information needs of medical scientists, and (2) the development of a highly detailed Master List of Biomedical Indexing Terms. Excerpta Medica has already been at work on the latter project for several years.

After marrying Prince Abdullah bin Al Hussein on June 10, 1993, they went on to have four children: Prince Hussein, Princess Iman, Princess Salma, and Prince Hashem. In addition to being a wife and mother, Queen Rania works hard to lift the lives of Jordanians by supporting their endeavours and helping to create new opportunities for them. Locally, she is committed to breathe new life into the public education system; empower communities and women especially through microfinance initiatives; protect children and families; and drive innovation, technology and entrepreneurship, especially amongst young people. Internationally, Queen Rania is an advocate for tolerance, compassion and bridge building between people of all cultures and backgrounds. Her efforts to simultaneously challenge stereotypes of Arabs and Muslims, and promote greater understanding and acceptance between people of all faiths and cultures, have won her global recognition. Her Majesty’s passion is education. She believes that every Jordanian girl and boy, and all children, should have access not only to stimulating classrooms and modern curricula, but inspiring teachers and technology that can connect Jordan’s children to the world and the world to Jordan’s children. Education has been considered as an indispensable asset of every individual, community and nation today. Indias higher education system is the third largest in the world, after China and the United States (World Bank). Tamil Nadu occupies the first place in terms of possession of higher educational institutions in the private sector in the country with over 46 percent(27) universities, 94 percent(464) professional colleges and 65 percent(383) arts and science colleges(2011). Studies to understand the profile of the entrepreneurs providing higher education either in India or Tamil Nadu were hardly available. This paper attempts to map the demographic profile of the entrepreneurs providing higher education in Arts and Science colleges in Tamil Nadu through an empirical analysis, carried out among 25 entrepreneurs spread across the state. This paper presents a summary of major inferences of the analysis.

The modern deflationary phenomena in the western and global economy are attributed to the fact that currently it is at the downward phase of the fifth long K-wave. Deflation has always been typical for the depressive periods in economy; presently it also manifests itself as the world economy has turned global, yet it lacks any control mechanisms. The authors suppose that a new economic crisis will break out in the western economy in the second half of 2018–2019 and that the depressive and deflationary trends will continue for another number of years.

The Kyrgyz higher education institutions are failing to meet the newly emerging challenges. Despite the efforts and jobs done, the effective results are not being achieved in the education and research sphere as desired. In this article, we give the examples of “Lean principles” implementations around the world as one of the solutions to the above mentioned challenge. In the last part of the article, we discuss a status quo of these principles in Kyrgyz higher education system.

PurposeThe higher education system has been entrusted globally to provide quality education, especially to the youth, and equip them with required skills and capabilities. The visionaries and policymakers of the countries around the world have been working relentlessly to improve the standard of the higher education system by establishing national and global accreditation and ranking bodies and expecting measuring performance through setting up accreditation and ranking parameters. This paper focuses on the review of Indian university accreditation and ranking system and determining its efficacy in improving academic quality for achieving good position in global quality accreditation and ranking.Design/methodology/approachThe study employed exploratory research approach to know about the accreditation and ranking issues of Indian higher education institutions to overcome the challenges for being globally competitive. The accreditation and ranking parameters and score of leading Indian universities was collected from secondary data sources. Similarly, the global ranking parameters and scores of these Indian universities with top global universities was explored. The performance gaps of Indian university in global academic quality parameter is assessed by comparing it with scores of global top universities. Further, each domestic and global accreditation and ranking parameters have been taken up for discussion.FindingsThe study identified teaching and learning, research and industry collaboration as common parameter in the accreditation and ranking by Indian and global accreditation and ranking body. Furthermore, the study revealed that Indian accreditation and ranking body assess leniently on parameters and award high scores as compared to rigorous global accreditation and ranking practice. The study revealed that “research” and “citations” are important parameters for securing prestigious position in global ranking, this is the reason Indian universities are trailing. The study exposed that Indian academic fraternity lack prominence in research, publication and citations as per need of global accreditation and ranking standards.Research limitations/implicationsThe limitation of this study is that it focused only on few Indian and global accreditation and ranking bodies. The future implication of this study will be the use of methodology designed in this study for comparing accreditation and ranking bodies’ parameters of different continents and countries in different economic development stages i.e. emerging and developed economies to know the disparity and shortcomings in their higher education system.Practical implicationsThe article is a review and comparison of national and global accreditation and ranking parameters. The article explored the important criteria and key indicators of accreditation and ranking that would provide an important and meaningful insight to academic institutions of the emerging economies of the world to develop its competitiveness. The study contributed to the literature on identifying benchmark for improving academic and higher education institution quality. This study would be further helpful in fostering new ideas toward setting up of contemporary globally viable and acceptable academic quality standard.Originality/valueThis is possibly the first study conducted with novel methodology of comparing the Indian and global accreditation and ranking parameters to identify the academic quality performance gap and suggesting ways to attain academic benchmark through continuous improvement activity and process for global competitiveness.

Pendidikan toleransi menjadi keharusan pada saat ini, khususnya di dunia pendidikan, karena melalui pendidikan inilah nilai-nilai kerukunan menjadi kokoh.sistem pendidikan agama sangat penting dan perlu ditingkatkan, sehingga yang dihasilkan sistem itu bukan orang-orang yang hanya berpengetahuan agama tetapi juga berakhlak mulia. Dengan mengadakan pendidikan agama yang membawa kepada pandangan luas dan sikap terbuka serta mementingkan dan meningkatkan di dalamnya pembinaan kerukunan antar agama diharapkan dapat terwujud dan berkembang dalam masyarakat, maka dari itu Pendidikan toleransi dibutuhkan guna menciptakan kehidupan yang indah dengan banyak perbedaan didalamnya, di SMA Semen Gresik merupakan sekolah swasta yang tidak berlatar agama namun bisa menerima siswanya dari manpun dan dari berbagai latar belakang yang berbeda pula sehingga tidak ada perbedaan diantara mereka. Permasalahan yang dikaji adalah: 1) Bagaimana proses pengembangan budaya toleransi dalam pembelajaran PAI di SMA Semen Gresik 2) Bagaimana output dari proses pengembangan budaya toleransi di SMA Semen Gresik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: 1) Proses pengembengan toleransi dalam pembelajaran PAI yakni dengan menggunakan sebuah pendekatan saintifik yang mana didalam pendekatan tersebut terdapat beberapa metode diantaranya pembiasaan, diskusi kelompok2) output dari proses pengembangan tolernasi dalam pembelajaran PAI diantaranya Menghargai perbedaan, menghargai kebaikan orang lain, keterbukaan, senang dan bahagia dalam berinteraksi dengan orang lain, membantu orang tanpa melihat latar belakang mereka yang berbeda, tidak diskriminatif dengan sesama, yang mana telah ada pada  diri peserta didik.Tolerance education is a necessity at this time, especially in the world of education in seeding the values of harmony. The religious education system is very important and needs to be improved, so that the resulting system is not people who only have religious knowledge but also have a noble morality.  By implementing religious education that brings a broad view and open attitude, emphasizes and increases in it, the development of interfaith harmony is expected to be realized and developed in society. Therefore tolerance education is needed to create a beautiful life littered fully with many differences in it. Senior High School (SMA) Semen Gresik is a private school that has no religious background but could accept students from anywhere and various different backgrounds so that there is no difference between them. The problems studied are: 1) How is the process of developing a culture of tolerance in SMA Semen Gresik 2) What is the output of the process of developing a culture of tolerance in SMA Semen Gresik. The results show that: 1) The process of developing tolerance in SMA Semen Gresik is by using a scientific approach with such methods as habituation and group discussion, 2) The output of the process of developing tolerance in SMA Semen Gresik includes respect for differences, respect for the kindness of others, openness, frendly and happy in interacting with other people, helping people regardless of their different backgrounds, not discriminating others.
