Abstract The study outlines the technique for flight tests carried out for a plane powered by an electric drive and the method for standardization of performance parameters applicable to evaluation of test results. Due to the relatively new type of drive, which is an electric motor, the literature references provide no descriptions of such issues. Therefore the solutions presented in the paper are the own contribution of the research team from Air Force Institute of Technology (ITWL).

When designing electric drives based on brushless DC motors with permanent magnets (BLDC), which have low level torque pulsations, the problem of modelling non-standard topological solutions appears. The known models of BLDC motors are either based on the assumptions about the symmetry of the stator pa-rameters of the electric motor and/or the ideal form of the phase back-EMF waveform, which reduce the accuracy of evaluating the effectiveness of the proposed solutions or prove unusable for modelling an operation of the electric motor with a non-standard semiconductor converter. It is necessary to develop a mathematical model of the BLDC motor-based electric drive that takes into account the structural features of the electric motor and allows for semiconductor converter configuration variability. The model is designed in the Matlab Simulink environment. The verification is carried out by comparing the modelling results with experimental data obtained previously by other researchers. The proposed method for generating phase back-EMF in the BLDC motor model provides the possibility for the user to set the EMF form templates independent for each phase. The proposed method for stator circuit simulating provides the user with access to each of the stator windings leads as well as with the possibility of asymmetric determination of each parameter of the electric motor. Upon verification, it has been shown that the difference in the control points between the simulated and experimental speed-torque curves does not exceed 3,5 %. The developed model allows analyzing the static and dynamic characteristics of operation modes of non-standard topology BLDC motor-based electric drives taking into account the stator pa-rameters asymmetry and the real phase back-EMF waveform. The specified features of the model allow exploring the operation of the designed electric drive, taking into account the BLDC motor and converter design. The model can be applied when checking atypical design decisions and when changing the set parameters of the electric drive and restrictions on working conditions and target functions to refine the control system algorithms and automate the search for optimal parameters of the motor and the semiconductor converter.

This paper presents the test results of a simulation of an air-to-surface guided bomb drop in a turbulent atmosphere. The guided bomb was developed from a practice bomb built and upgraded by the Air Force Institute of Technology. The paper presents the test results of a numerical simulation of an air-to-surface guided bomb drop ran in a proprietary software environment. The numerical simulation inputs included aerodynamic characteristics calculated with PRODAS software and verified by wind tunnel tests. The stochastic components of atmospheric turbulence were simulated with a stochastic process model proposed by Shinozuki. Examples of the guided bomb drop simulation results are given in the paper. The effect of atmospheric turbulence parameters, i.e. standard deviation, σ and turbulence scale, Lw on the striking accuracy and ground impact scatter, are also shown.

AbstractThis article presents flight tests of a newly developed Helmet-Mounted Flight Parameters Display System (SWPL). Presented system is designed to illustrate full piloting and navigational information, warning about emergency on the helicopter’s board and signaling on-board helicopter systems failures on the translucent display. The system is designed to work in day and night time conditions. In night time conditions, the system cooperates with night vision goggles applicable in Polish Air Force. The article presents the main components of the tested system, along with their purpose and function. It also describes in detail the methods of display implemented in the system and the amount of displayed information. The article discusses the required range and the actual course of the flight tests of that system. Tests were conducted on a Mi-17-1V helicopter. The results of the flight tests of the Helmet-Mounted Display System are given in conclusion, in particular regarding meeting the tactical and technical requirements of the system.

In order to solve the construction problem of perforating rebars’ precise location and it’s getting through the circular holes for the the conventional perfobond connector, a new type of perfobond connector with boot shaped slots was proposed. This new type perfobond connector has the advantage of convenient construction and pricise location. Three groups of push-out tests with nine specimens were carried out to study the shear capacity of the new type perfobond connector. The effect of the number and the spacing of boot shaped slots on failure modes, shear capacity, peak slip and shear stiffness were mainly studied. The test results show that the new type of perfobond connector with boot shaped slots has a high shear capacity and a good ductility, it could be widely applied on the connection between the steel and the concrete structures.

The problem of increasing the efficiency of power units of autonomous electric transport vehicles is considered. The task of creating a promising power system control device has been singled out. It is determined that in creating such devices, significant results can be obtained by using an intelligent module in the control loop of the electric drive. Goal. It is necessary to develop a power plant model with intelligent control, allowing to obtain data sets about currents, voltages and engine speeds in different modes of operation. The architecture of an intelligent control device, a PID controller based on a neural network, has been proposed; it has been proposed to exclude rotor angular velocity sensors from the classical feedback loop. The type and architecture of the neural network is defined. In the software environment MatLab the model of neuroemulator of the engine for formation of a training sample of a neural network by a method of Levenberg – Marquardt is developed. The trained neural network is implemented in the developed model of the electric motor control loop. The results of simulation of the intelligent control device showed a good convergence of the output influences generated by the neuroemulator with the actual parameters of the electric motor.

Since the late 1930s, gas turbine has begun to develop rapidly. To improve the economic and safety of gas turbine, new types were generated frequently by Original Equipment Manufacture (OEM). In this paper, a hybrid GRA-SVM prediction model is established to predict the main design parameters of new type gas turbines, based on the combination of Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) and Support Vector Machine (SVM). The parameters are classified into two types, system performance parameters reflecting market demands and technology development, and component performance parameters reflecting technology development and coupling connections. The regularity based on GRA determines the prediction order, then new type gas turbine parameters can be predicted with known system parameters. The model is verified by the application to SGT600. In this way, the evolution rule can be obtained with the development of gas turbine technology, and the improvement potential of several components can be predicted which will provide supports for overall performance design.

The results of the analysis of transient and technological processes of the irrigation pumping station of the first lift, taking into account the negative starting effects on the synchronous electric drive, are considered. The analysis and review of the ways of regulating the performance of the units of the irrigation pumping station of the first lift are made, and the main difficulties of the existing methods of regulating the pump supply are revealed. Computer simulation of starting modes of high-voltage synchronous electric motors with direct and soft start, where soft starter was used for soft start, was carried out. The simulation took into account the changes in the currents of all phases of the electric motor, the electromagnetic torque, the motor speed, the effective value of the current, as well as the static torque. The introduction of semiconductor soft starters for electric drives of high-power pumping units has been substantiated.
