Abstract Areas of intense mine drainage that are subjected to numerical modelling require the construction of a complex model structure that will properly reflect actual conditions. This paper presents the process and results of constructing such a structure for the Olkusz Zinc and Lead Ore Mining Area, an area situated in a cone of depression the extent of which reaches 500 km2. This size range calls for a selection of appropriate external boundaries, properly separated from these of the mine drainage area. The complex geological structure of the Olkusz area, associated with considerable variation in the thickness of rock formations, discontinuities of rock levels and occurrence of numerous faults, must be schematised so that calculation layers can be identified. The faults in the study area have to be reflected in the regional model structure, although only those faults that actually affect groundwater flows should be selected. The model structure needs to include detailed recognition and reflection of hydraulic contacts between aquifer levels, together with a selection of hydrogeological parameters that are different for particular formations. Only a complex structure built in such a manner may be the foundation of further model studies.

Based on the fixed interface component mode synthesis, a multiple and multi-level substructure method for the modeling of complex structures is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the residual structure is selected according to the structural characteristics of the assembled complex structure. Secondly, according to the assembly relationship, the parts assembled with the residual structure are divided into a group of substructures, which are named the first-level substructure, the parts assembled with the first-level substructure are divided into a second-level substructure, and consequently the multi-level substructure model is established. Next, the substructures are dynamically condensed and assembled on the boundary of the residual structure. Finally, the substructure system matrix, which is replicated from the matrix of repeated physical geometry, is obtained by preserving the main modes and the constrained modes and the system matrix of the last level of the substructure is assembled to the upper level of the substructure, one level up, until it is assembled in the residual structure. In this paper, an assembly structure with three panels and a gear box is adopted to verify the method by simulation and a rotor is used to experimentally verify the method. The results show that the proposed multiple and multi-level substructure modeling method is not unique to the selection of residual structures, and different classification methods do not affect the calculation accuracy. The selection of 50% external nodes can further improve the analysis efficiency while ensuring the calculation accuracy.

Abstract. The solution mining of salt mineral resources may contaminate groundwater and lead to water inrush out of the ground due to brine leakage. Through the example of a serious groundwater inrush hazard in a large salt-mining area in Tongbai County, China, this study mainly aims to analyse the source and channel of the inrushing water. The mining area has three different types of ore beds including trona (trisodium hydrogendicarbonate dihydrate, also sodium sesquicarbonate dihydrate, with the formula Na2CO3 × NaHCO3 × 2H2O, it is a non-marine evaporite mineral), glauber (sodium sulfate, it is the inorganic compound with the formula Na2SO4 as well as several related hydrates) and gypsum (a soft sulfate mineral composed of calcium sulfate dihydrate, with chemical formula CaSO4 × 2H2O). Based on characterisation of the geological and hydrogeological conditions, the hydrochemical data of the groundwater at different points and depths were used to analyse the pollution source and the pollutant component from single or mixed brine by using physical–chemical reaction principle analysis and hydrogeochemical simulation method. Finally, a possible brine leakage connecting the channel to the ground was discussed from both the geological and artificial perspectives. The results reveal that the brine from the trona mine is the major pollution source; there is a NW–SE fissure zone controlled by the geological structure that provides the main channels through which brine can flow into the aquifer around the water inrush regions, with a large number of waste gypsum exploration boreholes channelling the polluted groundwater inrush out of the ground. This research can be a valuable reference for avoiding and assessing groundwater inrush hazards in similar rock-salt-mining areas, which is advantageous for both groundwater quality protection and public health.

Currently, most of the fields being put into development are characterized by a complex geological structure, both in terms of section and in terms of plan. The solution of all geological tasks, including such important ones as the preparation of exploration projects, operation and effective development management, is impossible without creating models that reflect the main features of the variability of target parameters. The construction of adequate models of objects with a complex structure requires the involvement of all available information. The accuracy of the geological model is mostly determined by the accuracy of the well correlation. Paleosols are a new marker for the complex-built layers of the VAk-2 and VAk-3(1) of the Tagul field, which contributes to the validity of the correlation of the section of these layers. The reliability of the model was also improved by the use of the results of facies analysis. This analysis showed that the sedimentation of the studied objects includes channel and floodplain facies. Reservoir rock properties of these facies differ significantly. The updated model is characterized by a reduction in the oil-bearing area and the amount of reserves. The implementation of the model will optimize the project fund of wells and reduce the cost of well intervention. Economically, this means reducing capital costs and increasing the profitability of the project.

The article is devoted to the description of procedures of economic and mathematical modeling of trends in the field of housing construction taking into account the peculiarities of various countries of the post-Soviet space. The results of analysis of well-known scientific publications on forecasting the dynamics of housing market indicators are presented. It has been shown that most domestic and foreign scientists as the most effective methods of modeling these indicators consider methods of analyzing time trends, in which polynomials of high (in some cases up to the fourth degree) order are used to approximate the available retrospective data. Other common approaches to solving this problem are the use of short-term forecasting based on moving average algorithms, as well as the use of the SARIMA model, which takes into account the trend and seasonal wave. The article shows that these methods do not fully take into account the profound changes in the construction complexes of the post-Soviet states caused by the significant structural transformation of their socio-economic systems. The authors proposed to use econometric models based on regressions with dummy variables to model the main indicators of housing construction, taking into account the complex structure of the external and internal environment of national construction complexes. It has been shown that in a significant number of practical situations, a fairly simple but effective way to take into account the components of the time series of the indicators under consideration in one complex model is to use the model of "change in growth (fall)" when choosing the time of the beginning (end) of a crisis situation as a characteristic point. The results of modeling the main indicators of housing construction for various countries of the post-Soviet space showed that the proposed model when constructing the medium-term forecast allows taking into account the situation component of the analyzed time series.

How to deal with the model is important in analyzing structure system with finite element method, because the rationality of model has direct relationship with veracity of simulation result. In this paper some simplify modeling methods are expatiated. And an approach is supposed that combine simplifying complex model and rigid-treating sub-component which make model more close to reality. In final, an instance of multi-type-element system structure is computed to prove the correctness of the method.

One of the most important aspects in the activities of oil companies in the Western Siberia is to improve the effectiveness of water-flooding as the main method of impact on the formation. This is due to the fact that at the present time reservoirs of a complex structure with difficult to recover reserves prevail among newly introduced development objects, the extraction of which is extremely difficult using a simple method of water injection volumes regulation. First of all, this refers to reservoirs of Jurassic deposits, which are characterized by the most complex geological structure and porosity and permeability properties. A promising direction in improving the water-flooding system at such objects is the use of physical and chemical technologies to enhance the oil recovery of formations, and primarily, referring to the diverter technology. The research objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of using “hard” type diverter compositions to enhance oil recovery of formations. With the help of detailed oil-field analysis and field-geophysical studies, the nature of the development of oil reserves for Jurassic development sites has been assessed.

The abandoned Jales mining area is a sulphide-rich deposit (Northeast of Portugal). Acid mine drainage resulted from oxidation of sulphides is treated in a passive system with wetlands. The present work studies the thorium and uranium behaviour in the water and in the fine fractions of wetland soils throughout the passive treatment system. The evaluation of the efficiency of the all system was done determining metals concentration variation in the creek water upstream and downstream of the treated effluent discharge. The results point to higher efficiency to retain Th after summer than after winter. The opposite was found for uranium, which increases significantly in the creek water after summer and, in a lower extent, after winter. Also, Th and U have a tendency to increase in the fine fractions of the wetlands soils after summer, which can be explained by the longer water-soil contact/lower water dynamics. Nevertheless uranium has a much higher tendency to be in solution as revealed by a high concentration in the porewater of wetland soils. A relation of these actinides behaviour with the Fe and Mn distribution is not clear.
