Abstract Beef production must combine the interests of both producers and consumers, taking into account the sustainable use of environmental resources. The aim of the study was to analyze and compare the slaughter results, meet chemical composition and pH value of three beef breeds – Aberdinangus (AA), Hereford (HF) and Limousin (LI) bulls. The bulls were fattened on Latvian and Lithuanian farms, mainly using grass forage. The breed and age of bulls before slaughter significantly affected all slaughter results, except for fat class. From the meat chemical composition traits, the bull breed and age before slaughter had a significant effect only on the protein content. LI bulls showed the highest carcass weight 301.1±6.8 kg (p<0.05), dressing percentage 58.2±1.1% (p<0.05) and conformation score 3.56±0.18 points. The best fattened carcasses were obtained from AA bulls - 2.43±0.20 points. Muscle samples of musculus longissimus (M. longissimus) bulls of LI breed showed higher content of moisture (72.0±1.0%), protein (23.0±0.2%), ash (1.1±0.0%) and cholesterol (56.7±6.6 mg 100 g−1). AA breed bulls showed higher total fat (6.6±1.2%) and iron content (13.1±0.6 mg). The highest pH was observed in the meat obtained from AA bulls – 6.0±0.1, LI and HF breed bulls showed pH 5.8±0.0 and 5.8±0.1 respectively. Correlation analysis showed a significant, strong positive correlation between cold carcass weight and dressing percentage for AA and LI bulls, r=0.90 and r=0.88, respectively. For LI breed bulls, a strong positive correlation was also found between the cold carcass weight and the conformation score (r=0.98, p<0.01).

In this study, canonical correlation analysis was applied to estimate the relationship between body measurements and carcass traits of 28 male cross bred rabbits of about 12 weeks of age, reared under semi intensive system. Four body measurements, pre-slaughter weight (PSW) , body length (BL), chest circumference (CC), and ear length (EL) as predictor variable while dressing percentage ( DP) , hot carcass weight (HCW) and cold carcass weight (CCW) as criterion variables. Pre-slaughter weight and body length had significant (P<0.001) simple correlation coefficients with the carcass traits except for dressing percentage. The three canonical variate pairs ranged between .99 to .42 and only the first pair was significant (P<0.001). From the analysis pre-slaughter weight and body length can be regarded as the main factors as live measurement traits, while dressing percentage did not have pronounced effect on the emerged criterion variables.

Abstract Background: To investigate the effects of pattern visual evoked potential (pVEP) and sweep visual evoked potential (sVEP) on the accurate visual acuity (VA) measurement in adults. Methods: Medical files of 282 eyes of 141 patients who underwent VA measurement in our electrophysiology laboratory and did not undergo simulation were retrospectively analyzed. The VA was measured using the Snellen chart. Only those with a VA of higher than 1/10 on the Snellen chart were included in the study. The VA was assessed and reported by the pVEP (VA-pVEP) and sVEP test (VA-sVEP). The correlation analysis was performed using the Pearson correlation analysis. Results: Of 141 patients, 92 were males and 49 were females with a mean age of 37.7±18.4 years. There was a strong positive correlation between the VA values obtained from both eyes by pVEP (VA-pVEP) (r=0.858, p<0.001). There was a weak positive correlation (r=0.267, p<0.001) between the VA measured by the Snellen chart and the VA measured by the sVEP (VA-sVEP). A weak positive correlation was found for the VA-pVEP and VA-sVEP (r=0.313, p<0.001). Conclusions: For the measurement of the degree of the VA, it seems reasonable to use pVEP initially, while sVEP should be used in cases with short attention span and those who are non-cooperative and in infants.

This current study focuses its investigation on the correlation between students’ beliefs about the use of translation as an English learning strategy and the strategic use of translation in learning English by EFL students in Indonesia. This current study is aimed 1) to investigate the correlation between students’ beliefs and the use of translation as a learning strategy 2) to examine the developmental of the use of translation as a learning strategy across different year of study. One hundred seventeen undergraduate students, consisting 67 freshmen and 50 sophomores participated in this correlational study. The data were collected by frequency of an Indonesian Version of the Inventory for Beliefs about Translation for beliefs measurement and the Inventory for Translation as a Learning Strategy. Correlation and t-test were employed in the study.  Correlation analysis reveals that a strong positive correlation between students’ beliefs about translation and their use of translation as learning strategy. T-test finds the significant difference in the use of translation as learning strategy between freshman and sophomore learner.

Abstract. This study was conducted to investigate effects of slaughter age and gender on carcass characteristics of indigenous Hair goat kids reared under an extensive production system. A total of 60 Hair goat kids (30 females and 30 males) slaughtered at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months of age was used as the material of this study. In the study, the cold carcass weights of kids at 3–12 months of age were between 6.15 and 10.83 kg. The cold dressing percentage was determined as 47.04–52.65 %. The effect of slaughter age on these traits was statistically significant (P<0.001). The cold carcass weight and the cold dressing percentage increased with the slaughter age. The effect of kid gender on the cold carcass weight was statistically significant (P<0.001). The mean value of this trait in males was higher than the females. The percentages of omental-mesenteric fat (P<0.001) and kidney-knob and channel fat (P<0.01) significantly increased with slaughter age. Subcutan, intermuscular, total fat and muscle/ bone percentages of the left half carcass significantly increased with slaughter age (P<0.01). However, bone (P<0.05) and muscle/total fat (P<0.01) percentages significantly decreased with slaughter age. The female kids had significantly higher values than males in terms of omental-mesenteric fat, kidney-knob and channel fat, subcutaneous, intermuscular and total carcass fat percentages (P<0.001). In conclusion, it is recommended that Hair goat kids should be slaughtered at 9 months of age under extensive management system to result in more edible meat production.

This study has been conducted to study the effect of feed withdrawal (8 hours after slaughter) andadding dried bakery yeast on dressing percentage and meat chemical 45 marketed broiler chickens at 8weeks of age .The birds randomly distributed into three treatments (5 birds ) and each treatment tothree replicates (5 birds per replicate ) which were: un-treated control (T1) , broiler chickens subjectedto feed withdrawal 8 hrs. before slautered (T2) , broiler chickens fed a diet contained 1% of driedbakery yeast three days before subjected to feed withdrawal 8 hrs. before slaughtered (T3) . The dataobtained revealed the following :-Adding dried bakery yeast three days before subjected to feed withdrawal 8 hrs. beforeslaughtered (T3) significantly (p<0.01) decreased live body weight in the same time increased (p<0.01)carcass weight , dressing percentage with or without gibletts and gibletts percentage , also T3significantly (p<0.01) increased protein and decreased lipid and cholesterol of breast and legs meatcompaired with Feed withdrawal (T2) which significantly (p<0.01) predominent compaired with T1 .

The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of age on slaughterhouse by-products and their chemical composition of indigenous cattle of Bangladesh. Live weight, warm carcass weight and dressing percentage of different age group (T1= 0 Tooth, T2= 2 Teeths, T3= 4 Teeths, T4= 6 Teeths and T5= 8 Teeths) of indigenous cattle were estimated. Average live weight and warm carcass weight of indigenous cattle was 167.64±79.93 kg and 84.83±47.88 kg, respectively on which age has significant effect. The average dressing percentage of indigenous cattle was 48.99±4.84. The average weight (kg) of inedible by-products eg. blood, hide, tail, scrotum, penis, cannon, horn, ear and tail was 6.35±0.69, 14.02±1.66, 0.34±0.03, 0.27±0.02, 0.28±0.03, 2.74±0.22, 0.33±0.04 and 0.17±0.02, respectively on which age has significant effect. The average weight (kg) of edible by-products eg. liver, heart, kidney, lung, brain, spleen, empty stomach, empty intestine, head and tongue was 2.40±0.22, 0.55±0.06, 0.35±0.04, 1.43±0.14, 0.33±0.01, 0.46±0.04, 6.32±0.74, 4.77±0.52, 8.21±0.78 and 0.48±0.04, respectively on which age has significant effect. This study aims to evaluate the physicochemical characteristics, fat composition, and sensory attributes of lamb meat produced in two feeding systems: (1) Unweaned and unsupplemented lambs in the pasture and (2) early weaned lambs in the pasture with concentrate supplementation post-weaning. The experiment was performed in the winter–spring pastures in the subtropical region of Brazil. The experimental design was completely randomized with two treatments (feeding systems), four paddocks per treatment and twenty lambs (experimental units) per paddock. Carcass weight, dressing percentage, pH, rib eye area, subcutaneous fat thickness, and visual fatness were determined. Loin samples were used for instrumental color, thawing and cooking loss, shear force, water holding capacity, fat and sensory analyses. Carcass pH did not differ between the systems (p > 0.05). Supplemented weaned lambs showed a higher body condition score, carcass weight, dressing percentage and fatness (p < 0.001). They also showed higher (p < 0.05) total fat and long chain fatty acid (FA) content than unweaned lambs. Lamb meat from both systems showed similar and high sensory acceptance. Early weaning and supplementation proved to be a better choice for producing lambs in the winter–spring pasture, under subtropical conditions, because it promoted better carcass and meat traits and good sensory attributes, which could improve payment to the farmers.

During our experiments in 2017/2018 crop year at Látókép Experimental Farm of University of Debrecen we studied the effect of different forecrops (sweet corn, sunflower) and increased dosages of artificial fertilizers (control, N90PK, N150PK) on rheological properties of wheat. Both levels of artificial fertilizers significantly improved valorigraphic water absorption (WA), quality number (VQN) and dough-stability (DST), moreover alveographic L and W value. Applying artificial fertilizers valorigraphic mixing-tolerance (DMT) and dough softening (DS) values were decreased significantly comparing to the control ones. Sweet corn as a forecrop had significantly favourable effect on VQN, DDT, DST, DS and DMT; promylographic ductility; alveographic L values comparing to sunflower. Fertilizing x forecrop interaction affected in a significant way the DMT and P/L value. In addition, fertilizing x cultivar interaction had significant effect on alveographic L, promylographic ductility and ratio. Using Pearson’s correlation analysis results, fertilizer dosages were in strong positive correlation with VQN and DDT; alveographic L and W. The alveographic W was in strong positive correlation with promylographic energy (r=0,842**) and DST (r=0,863**), while the L was in medium positive correlation with promylographic ductility (r=0,744**). Our results proved that, the wheat flour’s rheological parameters are significantly affected by fertilizing dose, forecrop and cultivar

This experiment investigated the effect of olive cake in the feed of weaned Pramenka lambs on their daily gain, carcass traits and on the chemical composition of different groups of muscles. For that purpose, 45 male lambs were divided into three groups with 15 lambs each and fed separately for 50 days. The first group (control) was fed a commercial concentrate, while the second and third (test) groups were fed a concentrate with the addition of 15% and 30% olive cake, respectively. The results showed that the high level of olive cake inclusion (30%) decreased (<i>P</i> < 0.01) daily gain, final weight, empty carcass weight and (<i>P</i> < 0.05) dressing percentage of lambs. The olive cake resulted in a significantly higher (<i>P</i> < 0.01) proportion of stomach and intestines in the carcass compared to the control. The content of fat, proteins and dry matter in all the analyzed groups of muscles was lowest in the carcasses of lambs fed olive cake. The results of this research suggest that the addition of 15% of olive cake to the concentrate had no significant negative effect on daily gain, carcass weight and dressing percentage of lambs.

Demographic transformation and increase of older people in Europe have encouraged discussions regarding how economics could help older people to grow old in a dignified way and be active in labour market. In Latvia the term older people is usually applied to pensioners. In this research the author analysed the number of pensioners in Latvia from 2012 till 2018, as well as change of pensioners’ employment level in population aged 45 and over. This research showed that 63.1 % of pensioners (45 years old and over) in Latvia were employed in 2018. Compared to 2012 the amount of employed pensioners in 2018 has increased by 10.2 %. Regression analysis between employed pensioners and average pension in Latvia from 2004 till 2018 shows a statistically significant linear interrelationship (R2 = 0,723) but the data correlation analysis shows a strong positive correlation (r = 0,850).
