This current study focuses its investigation on the correlation between students’ beliefs about the use of translation as an English learning strategy and the strategic use of translation in learning English by EFL students in Indonesia. This current study is aimed 1) to investigate the correlation between students’ beliefs and the use of translation as a learning strategy 2) to examine the developmental of the use of translation as a learning strategy across different year of study. One hundred seventeen undergraduate students, consisting 67 freshmen and 50 sophomores participated in this correlational study. The data were collected by frequency of an Indonesian Version of the Inventory for Beliefs about Translation for beliefs measurement and the Inventory for Translation as a Learning Strategy. Correlation and t-test were employed in the study.  Correlation analysis reveals that a strong positive correlation between students’ beliefs about translation and their use of translation as learning strategy. T-test finds the significant difference in the use of translation as learning strategy between freshman and sophomore learner.

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of CSM strategies on comprehension reading skills in classes V Padokan 2 Elementary School. The research method used is a quasi-experimental method. In this study the subjects of the study were VA class students as the control class and V C as the experimental class with 28 VA and VC class students. Quantitative data analysis technique used is the calculation of independent sample t-test. Based on data analysis and discussion, researchers can conclude that CSM strategies are more effective than conventional methods of reading comprehension learning. The results of this study indicate that there is a significant difference between the experimental class and the control class as evidenced by the results of the independent sample t-test obtained by the value of Asymp. Sig (2-Tailed) 0.014 <0.05. CSM strategy is an effective learning strategy seen from the average value of the experimental class posstest which is 81.61 higher than the control class average value of 72.96.

Reasoning skills are very important in encouraging students to think more critically and logically, as depicted in the Malaysian Education Development Plan (2013-2025). Therefore, this study looked into improving the Differentiation Reasoning Level (DRL) of reasoning skills among students for a topic in the Additional Mathematics subject,  known as Differentiation, through reasoning learning strategy. The study participants consisted of a total of 31 students from a secondary boarding school in Johor, selected through a purposive sampling method. A pre-test was carried out for the participants, from the advanced level, followed by a number of repetition tests, before the post-test assessment was conducted. The data collection for this study employed a set of Reasoning Test on Differentiation (RTD) and 10 sets of learning activities on Differentiation based on modified Marzano Rubric for Specific Task of Situations (1992). This dimension involved four types of reasoning skills, namely,  comparison, classification, inductive, and deductive. The survey data, through paired samples t-test, revealed a significant difference between the mean scores in pre-test and post-test (p <0.05). In addition, the paired sample t-test showed a significant difference on the level of reasoning among students from each construct in the reasoning skills before and after using this module. In conclusion, the Marzano Model of Dimensional Learning (1992) is a thinking skill model that can help improve students' reasoning skills. The model covers analysis aspects of what has been learned by implementing the process of identifying reasons, which will help students to add and expand their knowledge. The findings also implied that, the processes of teaching and learning play an important role in ensuring students’ capability to emphasize on the implementation process of reasoning skills

Objective: This study aimed to examine the associated factors for dose variation and influence cardiac CT angiography (CCTA) dose benchmarks in current CT imaging centres. Methods: A questionnaire was distributed to CT centres across Australia and Saudi Arabia. All participating centres collected data for adults who underwent a CCTA procedure. The questionnaire gathered information about the examination protocol, scanning parameters, patient parameters, and volume CT dose index (CTDI vol) and dose–length product (DLP). A stepwise regression analysis was performed to assess the contribution of tube voltage (kV), padding time technique, cross-sectional area (CSA) of chest and weight to DLP. Results: A total of 17 CT centres provided data for 423 CCTA examinations. The median CTDIvol, DLP and effective dose were 18 mGy, 256 mGy.cm and 5.2 mSv respectively. There was a statistically significant difference in DLP between retrospective and prospective ECG-gating modes (p = 0.001). Median DLP from CCTA using padding technique was 61% higher than CCTA without padding (p = 0.001). The stepwise regression showed that kV was the most significant predictor of DLP followed by padding technique then CSA while patient weight did not statistically significantly predict DLP. Correlation analysis showed a strong positive correlation between weight and CSA (r = 0.78), and there was a moderate positive correlation between weight and DLP (r = 0.42), as well as CSA and DLP (r = 0.48). Conclusion: Findings show radiation dose variations for CCTA. The associated factors for dose variation found in this study are scanning mode, kV, padding time technique and CSA of the chest. This results support the need to include CSA measurements in future dose survey and for setting DRLs. Advances in knowledge: The study provides baseline information that helps to understand the associated factors for dose variations and high doses within and between centres performing CCTA.

The pronunciation of regular past tense verbs seems to be difficult for most L2 learners, especially in L2 learners whose first language phonological system is different from the English one. It is predicted that Thai EFL students could encounter difficulties perceiving English coda clusters like the ‘-ed’ ending sounds. For this reason, this research investigates the extent to which the first-year and the third-year English major undergraduate students in a public university perceive the English regular past tense verbs. To be precise, this study compares the ability to perceive the regular past tense of the first-year and third-year students. In addition, the strategies they use to perceive the ‘-ed’ ending verbs among the three different allomorphs ([t], [d] and [ɪd]) are investigated. The data collection was derived from the perception tests of 30 first-year and 30 third-year students and a Pronunciation Learning Strategy (PLS) questionnaire. The perception tests were divided into two subtests: perception test and perception syllable identification test. The PLS questionnaire was employed to find out the strategies they used in English pronunciation learning. The overall results show that the third-year students demonstrated a better performance than the first-year students in both tests (t=-2.778; p<.01 in the perception test; t=-1.466; p>.05 in the syllable identification test). However, the syllable identification test’s results do not show consistency with Solt et al.’s (2004) model, while the perception test’s do. Moreover, the findings from the questionnaire reveal no statistically significant difference between the first and the third-year students in terms of pronunciation learning strategies (p>.05).

Abstract Beef production must combine the interests of both producers and consumers, taking into account the sustainable use of environmental resources. The aim of the study was to analyze and compare the slaughter results, meet chemical composition and pH value of three beef breeds – Aberdinangus (AA), Hereford (HF) and Limousin (LI) bulls. The bulls were fattened on Latvian and Lithuanian farms, mainly using grass forage. The breed and age of bulls before slaughter significantly affected all slaughter results, except for fat class. From the meat chemical composition traits, the bull breed and age before slaughter had a significant effect only on the protein content. LI bulls showed the highest carcass weight 301.1±6.8 kg (p<0.05), dressing percentage 58.2±1.1% (p<0.05) and conformation score 3.56±0.18 points. The best fattened carcasses were obtained from AA bulls - 2.43±0.20 points. Muscle samples of musculus longissimus (M. longissimus) bulls of LI breed showed higher content of moisture (72.0±1.0%), protein (23.0±0.2%), ash (1.1±0.0%) and cholesterol (56.7±6.6 mg 100 g−1). AA breed bulls showed higher total fat (6.6±1.2%) and iron content (13.1±0.6 mg). The highest pH was observed in the meat obtained from AA bulls – 6.0±0.1, LI and HF breed bulls showed pH 5.8±0.0 and 5.8±0.1 respectively. Correlation analysis showed a significant, strong positive correlation between cold carcass weight and dressing percentage for AA and LI bulls, r=0.90 and r=0.88, respectively. For LI breed bulls, a strong positive correlation was also found between the cold carcass weight and the conformation score (r=0.98, p<0.01).

This study aimed to find out whether or not there was any significant difference in speaking ability of the students who were taught by implementing CML (Cultural Model for Literacy) through legends and those who were not. The sample was 41 undergraduate students enrolled in English course at FKIP of Sriwijaya University which were taken by purposive sampling method from 85 total of population. This study used one of the quasi-experimental designs that were pretest posttest non equivalent control group or comparison group design. The students were divided into two groups the experimental and control groups. The experimental group was required to do some phases in treatment of 16 meetings including pre-test and posttest in accordance with introducing new model of teaching speaking that was CML through legends. The data were obtained through speaking test by measuring their oral interpretations to know the students speaking ability. The test was administered twice as pre-test and post-test in both groups. The results indicated that there were any significant differences at level 0.05 level found in the data which were analyzed by using paired sample t-test (t=12.156>t-table=2.080) and independent sample t-test (t=3.252, p<0.05). The results also showed that CML through legends could enhance students speaking ability of the second semester English students of Sriwijaya University.

IBT techniques is series of activities that involved maximally throughout the student's ability to search and investigate in a systematic, critical, logical, analytical, so that they can formulate their own discoveries with confidence the search of knowledge and understanding to satisfy curiosity. IBT technique is also supposed to the teachers be creative to set situations. This method used was quasi experimental design. The purposive sampling technique was used on this study. The data were collected by reading test. The collected data was analyzed by using paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test. The results showed that the students reading ability was improved and there was a significant difference between the students who were taught by using IBT and those who were not. With IBT technique encouraged students to take the initiative to have question the phenomenon, to conduct field observations, to analyze the data, and to draw conclusions. Thus, it is to integrate students and synergize various skills of language and different methods.

The objective of this study was to find out whether or not there was any significant difference on reading comprehension of analytical exposition that were taught by using Peer Assisted Learning strategy (PALS) and those who were not, and to find out whether or not it was effective to use PALS on reading comprehension. This study used quasi experimental method. 78 students was taken as sample, consists of 39 students XI IPS 3 as experimental group and XI IPS 4 as control group. Test was used in collecting data as pretest and posttest. To verify the hypothesis, the result of independent sample t-test found that t-obtained (11.077) was higher than t-table (1.9917) with df(=76), and the significance 2-tailed was 0.000. It means that there was any significant difference on reading comprehension that were taught by using PALS and those who were not, and also it was effective to use PALS.

<p><em>This research aimed at examining Indonesian EFL </em><em>students</em><em>’ proficiency in writing and ability in public speaking across</em><em> personality</em><em> learning styles</em><em>: extroversion and introversion</em><em>. It involved 7</em><em>4</em><em> undergraduate students who </em><em>took </em><em>an Essay Writing course in the English Department of </em><em>Universitas Negeri</em><em> Malang, one of the leading universities in Indonesia. The students were distributed into three classes</em><em>.</em><em> The</em><em>y </em><em>were taught how to write essays. Then, the students were made aware that they had to complete two tasks: writing </em><em>and presenting </em><em>a cause and effect essay on topics related to English language teaching. The students’ cause and effect essays were scored to know their proficiency in writing and their presentation was assessed to know their ability in speaking. Two scoring rubrics were used and two raters were involved in the scoring process for interrater reliability. The results of the research showed that the Indonesian EFL </em><em>student</em><em>s’ proficiency in writing is </em><em>strongly </em><em>related to their ability in speaking</em><em> for both groups of students</em><em>. In addition, </em><em>the Indonesian extrovert EFL students’ proficiency in writing is strongly related to their ability in speaking. The Indonesian introvert EFL students’ proficiency in writing is also strongly related to their ability in speaking. However, there is no significant difference of the proficiency in writing and ability speaking between the extrovert and introvert students.</em></p>
