The implementation of distance learning for mathematics course at PGSD FKIP Unsyiah may have affected student learning. This article aimed at investigating students’ understanding of linear equation during distance learning. 70 first-year students participated in this study. Data was gathered using a test consisted of 2 word problems about linear equations. Data was analyzed based on the 5 aspects of solving linear equation problems which include using variables, forming equations, solving the equations, performing calculations, and giving final answer. Results show that 20% students used variables correctly, 94% formed the equations correctly, 95.7% solved the equations correctly, 90% performed calculations correctly, and 84% gave the right final answers. Only 3 out 5 aspects satisfied the criteria of good understanding. Therefore, it was concluded that students’ understanding of linear equation during distance learning was not satisfactory. This study implies that more intense communication is needed to help students in their learning during the implementation of distance learning.

Communication strategy is the way to help the speakers when facing difficulties in communication using English as a second language. This case study, at the first year students of English Department, aims to know the most frequent students’ strategies to communicate in speaking activity in speaking class. It is found that thirteen communication strategies were used by the students in speaking English class, but not all of the communication strategies were used in every conversation, but only certain communication strategy was used. It depends on the materials difficulties. Furhermore, the most frequent communication strategies is stalling or time gaining strategy. As they need some time to think and then continue talking after they find the right words they need to communicate. This findings is in line with the propossed theory stated that communication strategy is defined as a systematic technique employed by a speaker to express his or her meaning when facing certain difficulties in communication.

Like most university students worldwide, the engineering students at the School of Information Sciences (ESI) have to deal with their school closure and the new paradigm of distance learning. Despite efforts made by the administration and the teachers to accompany students, an internal survey conducted by the end of October 2021 revealed that almost all students, especially first-year ones, did not accept distance learning. This paper describes our experience to improve students’ satisfaction with distance learning by involving them in their courses’ design process. Four courses were concerned by the experience and were designed following the ADDIE method. Last-year students participated in the ADDIE analysis step, while the first-year students participated in the last step by evaluating the co-created courses. Courses were co-created with students as most of them got involved in the ADDIE development step and enriched courses by realizing extras activities. Results showed that students were highly satisfied with courses taught in the context of this study.

Abstract Background : The aim of this work is to present opinions of medical students about euthanasia. Study design: The anonymous questionnaire was conducted among first-year students of medicine at the Medical University of Lublin (Poland). Methods: The anonymous questionnaire consisted of 35 questions that concerned three components of euthanasia attitude: knowledge, evaluation, and declaration to conduct euthanasia. The study was attended by 281 students of medicine (77.6% of all first-year students). Results: Although euthanasia in Poland is legally prohibited, almost one fifth of students of medicine expressed a positive attitude towards euthanasia, and over a quarter of students opted for its legalization. Only two independent variables, i.e., family size (number of children) and religious involvement of the respondents, differentiate both the overall assessment of euthanasia and the level of acceptance for its legalization. Non-religious respondents frequently expressed their positive evaluation of euthanasia (43.3%) than those, who were religiously involved (6.4%). Conclusions: The attitudes of students towards euthanasia are often inconsistent. There is a need to evaluate medical study programs in the context of creating the right attitudes of future doctors towards euthanasia.

The relevance of the research is determined by the need to find new methods of teaching a foreign language in the context of the transition to an online learning environment, which will contribute to ensuring an appropriate level of development of future specialists' communicative foreign competence. The purpose of the study is to determine the features of the development of students' phonetic competence in online German classes on the example of the pedagogical activity of teachers of the I.I. Mechnikov Odessa National University. The study of the selected problems was carried out in two stages based on logical and system approaches using general scientific methods, including the method of analysis, synthesis, comparison, concretisation, systematisation, and the method of analogies. It was identified that the modern educational space is characterised by the digitalisation of the educational process, as a result of which approaches to teaching a foreign language are changing. The paper considers foreign practices of using multimedia technologies in foreign language classes to form students' auditory and pronunciation skills in online learning. The necessity of changing the conventional methods of teaching an introductory phonetic course in a foreign language according to the requirements of distance learning was substantiated. It was established that the key factor in the development of auditory and pronunciation skills in online German classes is the use of video and audio materials (video conferences and messengers), animated images of articulation of sounds, as well as a system of exercises for the practical application of the theoretical knowledge obtained. On the example of teaching an introductory phonetic course in German for first-year students of the Department of International Relations of the I.I. Mechnikov Odessa National University, the basic principles of using mobile applications in the process of distance learning, including Padlet, LearningApps, Voki, PicVoice, and ChatterPix are described. The prospects for further research lie in the practice of using the online environment of an introductory German phonetic course among students of related specialisations

The article considers and studies the problem of psychophysiological adaptation of freshmen through the concretization of the very concept of adaptation and determination of the time period of the adaptation period. Moreover, carried out a scientific analysis and experimental study of key aspects of psycho-physiological adaptation of first-year students. The levels of adaptive and communicative abilities, neuropsychic stability and moral norm, indicators of psychophysiological adaptation and the main features that indicate the sources of maladaptation have been determined. The criteria for psychophysiological adaptation (state of health, mood, anxiety, fatigue, activity behavior) are highlighted, and prospects for further research are formulated. According to the results of the work it was found that most freshmen have high rates of development of communicative abilities and moral normativity. They really assess their role in the team, in relationships, focusing on compliance with generally accepted norms of behavior. Freshmen are capable of accepting other people as they are, respect their originality and the right to be themselves. The development of such an ability characterizes them as a mature personality. High optimism score and high ability for somatic regulation were found. In addition, a moderate (average) level of psychophysiological maladaptation was found in young people. From time to time, they have certain difficulties associated with changes in the forms, teaching and assessment methods that are characteristic of a comprehensive school, and most often they experience problems due to a deterioration in well- being, namely, due to the characteristics of individual mental processes of freshmen, a decrease their overall activity and a decrease in motivation for any activity. Freshmen are dominated by a low level of development of adaptive abilities and neuropsychic stability. The data obtained indicate the need to develop a system of measures to update the adaptive capabilities of freshmen. We identified this direction as a promising vector for further studies of this problem.

Health profession educators are responding to shifting approaches where patients are increasingly recognized as partners in an interprofessional care process. To foster competencies related to partnerships between patients and the team, educators have advanced the role of patient partners; however, an appreciation of resulting student learning is in its early stages. First-year students from 9 programs interacted with patient partners and participated in a Reader’s Theater that explored partnerships with patients in an interprofessional team. Students completed reflective assignments; an inductive thematic analysis explored student learning. The following 4 overarching themes were recognized: developing insights through patient perspective, promoting partnerships with patients, recognizing attitudes that promote therapeutic relationships, and advocating for the patient to be a team member. Accompanying subthemes provide enhancement of each of the identified themes. Students discussed the effect of poor collaboration, identified attitudes that promote collaboration, and expressed the value of advocacy for patient partnership. An enriched appreciation of student learning will guide educator engagement of patient partners in both health professional and interprofessional curricula.
