Technological advances in UAV (Unmanned Arial Vehicle) photogrammetry have been more efficient and accurate in the field of mapping and monitoring surveys. This study aims to determine the level of potential mangrove forests seen from the density of its vegetation, mangrove species and know how the relationship to marine biota contained in coastal areas bale-bale Batam. The recording data was taken on 26-08-2017. The method used to determine the density is the transformation of the NDVI vegetation index combined with the field transect. the field transect was conducted to see the species and biota of its association contained in each type of mangrove forest vegetation. The results of this study indicate that mangrove in coastal bale-bale has an area of 4.915 Ha, with the potential of mangrove forest area is still in potential condition seen from the extraction vegetation density from the transformation of vegetation index used and with the identification of mangrove species that is Avecennia and Rhizopora, relationship with the type of biota association Ocypodidae, Coenobitadae, and Gobiidae especially for Rhizopora mangrove species, it is because rhizopora is the most dominant type of mangrove in the research location.

Study on the potency of mangroves forest in Serangan Island as ecotourism area in South Denpasar District, Denpasar, Bali. Mangrove Forest on Serangan Island is an area managed by PT.Bali Turtle Island Development (BTID) which is a government land under the supervision of the Bali Provincial Forestry Agency (Dinas Kehutanan Provinsi Bali) and Nature Resource Conservation Center (BKSDA). The total area of mangrove forest about of 33 hectares, the mangrove forest in Serangan Island indicate to have biophysic potency such diversity of mangrove species and diversity of fauna. The purpose of this study is to identify the biodiversity of mangrove forests and to assess the suitability of mangrove forests as ecotourism areas. The method used in this research was the conformity analysis proposed by Bahar (2004) and Yulianda (2007) to assess the potency of mangrove forest with biophysical approach. The results of this study found that the area of mangrove forest on Serangan Island was dominated by mangrove species Sonneratia and Rhizopora, with diversity of fauna found such as birds, reptiles, and marine biota at each point of observation area. The tourist suitability index (Ik) of mangrove forest was 153 and belong to medium category or potentially as an ecotourism area. Recommendation for ecotourism development area of mangrove forest consist of basic concept of development which were buffer area and eco-tourism area. Then ecotourism activities were develop e.g natural interpretation, nature viewing, bird watching, photo hunting, board walks, and fishing. In addition, support from local community and tourists around the mangrove forest was very much to developed Serangan Island as an ecotourism area.

Abstract The mangrove ecosystem in Forest Managemen Unit - VII (FMU) Sumatera Utara is a natural forest. FMU has not managed and utilizes mangrove forests optimally. It can open up opportunities for illegal loggers and trigger damage to these natural ecosystems. This condition requires prevention and mitigation so that severe damage to mangrove forests does not occur. This study aims to determine the relationship between vegetation index and mangrove density in the field and map the mangrove density distribution based on the image vegetation index value. The density distribution mapping was carried out by compiling a vegetation density estimator model NDVI, GNDVI, and TVI as independent variables. Correlation test and regression analysis between the vegetation index value (NDVI, GNDVI, and TVI) to the number of trees per unit area. The distribution model for the density of mangrove stands was chosen based on the coefficient of determination (R2). The study resulted from NDVI selected as the vegetation index used to map the distribution of mangrove density with a Pearson correlation coefficient (R) of 0.738. The selected model is Y = 2.48e2.8667x, which is an exponential equation with a coefficient of determination (R2) of 61.3%. Based on this model, the distribution of mangrove density has the lowest density reaching 400, and the highest density is 2,200 trees per hectare

The area of mangrove forests in Indonesia is currently only spanning as much as 3.4 milion acres, so there is a need for the participation of the government and community to maintain its sustainability. South Halmahera is the district with the largest mangrove area in the North Maluku Province. One of the mangrove areas in the District of South Halmahera is located at Sayoang Village, East Bacan Subdistrict Up until its eleventh founding anniversary, this district have never conducted an inventorizing of its mangroves, both ecological and social studies in the field of public. This study aims to analyze the compotition of mangrove species in Sayoang Village, East Bacan Subdistrict, South Halmahera, and identify the knowledge of surrounding communities of mangrove areas as protected areas. Data were retrieved using sampling method with applications terraced paths, and analyzed by calculating its important value index (INP) and its index value diversity (IVD). The public social data were taken using in-depth interviews and questionnaires. Results obtained from this study show that the mangrove forest in Sayoang Village, East Bacan District, Halmahera, consists of major mangrove species with as many as eleven species belonging to families Rhizophoraceae, Sonneratiaceae, Avicenniaceae, Meliaceae and Myrtaceae, and as many as three species of minor mangrove belonging to families of Loranthaceae, Acanthaceae, and Pteridaceae. The mangrove's species diversity and richness is and low, but it has high evenness. The results showed that 60% of total respondents know the benefit of mangrove as fish habitat, while for mangrove area as conserving areas, 50% of total respondent don't know the status of the area. The cutting problems happened in mangrove areas, 90% of total respondent know the activity and 85% of total respondent think that the logging activities in mangrove area is still allowed. The management activity of mangrove area in Sayoang village hasn't been conducted, either by the community or by local Dinas Kehutanan, and 53% of total respondent still wishing the mangrove can give more benefit economically.Key words: Mangrove forest, mangrove protected areas, community knowledge

Mangrove forests are unique ecosystems that have ecological, biological and socio-economic functions. The function of mangrove forests on the environment is very important especially in the coastal and oceanic regions. Mangrove forests providers of wood, leaves as raw material for medicines, and natural dye. This study aims to inventory the diversity of species of mangrove vegetation in Mendalok Village, Sungai Kunyit Subdistrict, Mempawah Regency. The benefits of this study are to provide the data on mangrove forest vegetation as basic data for local government and related agencies in efforts to protect and preserve mangrove forests in Mendalok Village, Sungai Kunyit Subdistrict, Mempawah Regency. Inventory the tree in mangrove forest used a line with measured 200 meters. There are 6 lines and the distance between the lines as far as 100 meters. The lines of observation are placed by purposive sampling. The results of research found 11 types of species and consisted of 6 genera. The genera are Avicennia, Bruguiera, Ceriops, Rhizophora, Soneratia and Xylocarpus. The species found were Avicennia alba, Avicennia marina, Bruguiera cylindrica, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Bruguiera parviflora, Ceriops decandra, Rhizophora apiculata, Rhizophora mucronata, Rhizophora stylosa, Sonneratia caseolaris, Xylocarpus mollucensis. Diversity of mangrove species in Mendalok Village, Sungai Kunyit Subdistrict, Mempawah Regency was high and should be maintained for conservation and ecotourism area. This research aims to determine the types or species of gastropod and its distribution in mangrove forests in Tongkeina village and to know the species of mangrove in Tongkeina village. The Research was conducted on one sampling point with one 100 meters long line transect which was is laid perpendicular to the outer direction of the mangrove.  To collect gastropod samples, three quadrates with a size of 10x10meters with a distance between the quadrate 5 meters were made. In the quadrate, 15 subquadrates sized 1x1meters were also made. Based on the results, there were 6 species of gastropods and two distribution patterns of i.e., Cluster the species of the Littoraria scabra, Angustassiminea castanea, Terebralia sulcate. The uniform distribution pattern is Ischinocerithium rostratum, Caliostoma jujubinum, and Nerita senegalensis. There are ten mangrove species found and  the most common species is Soneratia alba with a total of 27 individuals.Keywords: Gastropods, forest, Mangrove, Tongkeina village ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui Jenis-jenis gastropoda serta persebaran pada hutan mangrove di Kelurahan Tongkeina dan untuk mengetahui Jenis-jenis mangrove di Kelurahan Tongkeina. Penelitian hanya di lakukan satu titik pengambilan sampel dimana dibuat 1 line transek dengan Panjang 100meter yang di tarik tegak lurus dari arah terluar mangrove kemudian dibuat 3 kuadrat dengan ukuran 10x10meter dengan jarak antara kuadrat 5 meter, dan di dalam kuadrat dibuat 15 subkuadrat berukuran 1x1 meter. Berdasarkan penelitian hasil ditemukan ada 6 spesies gastopoda dan dua pola persebaran Gastropoda yaitu mengelompok dan seragam, spesies mengelompok yaitu Littoraria scabra, Angustassiminea castanea, Terebralia sulcate. Pola persebaran seragam yaitu Ischinocerithium rostratum, Caliostoma jujubinum, Nerita senegalensis. Mangrove ditemukan 10 Spesies yang terbanyak adalah Soneratia alba dengan jumlah 27 individu.Kata kunci: Gastropoda, Hutan, Mangrove, Kelurahan Tongkeina.

Gastropod is one of the mollusk phylum that can adapt and decompose in mangrove forests. The mangrove forest in Sungai Kakap is an area that is slowly being opened due to the local community people’s activities. They opened land to build buildings, farms, and villages. This research is aimed at studying the diversity of Gastropod and the influence of the mangrove tree density on the gastropod diversity in the mangrove forest of Sungai Kakap, Sungai Kakap Village of Kubu Raya Regency. The data were taken in May 2018. The analysis was conducted using the observation method by making six observation lines. The lines were differentiated based on the density of the vegetations: dense, medium, and sparse. The number of Gastropods found in the Kakap River mangrove forest is 4 types of gastropods with a total of 252 individuals. Respectively from dense, medium, and sparse vegetation, the gastropod dominance index is 0.68, 0.37, and 0.51; the diversity index is 0.25, 0.49, and 0.33; the species average index is 0.27, 0.97, and 0.4; and the gastropod species richness index is 4.03, 1.18, and 0.7. Lastly, the species similarity index is respectively 86%, 66%, and 86%. Keywords: Gastropod, Mangrove Forests, Vegetation density.

The decline in mangrove vegetation density and the area of mangrove forests in the coastal province of Riau occurred due to the logging of mangrove forests and the conversion of mangrove forests into other uses such as industrial estates. This study aims to collect a database of mangrove ecosystems which includes the ecological structure of R. apiculata in Riau Province. Collecting data of mangrove vegetation condition was done by transect line and plot. The line transect was drawn from the reference point (the outer mangrove stand) with the direction perpendicular to the coastline to the mainland and made plots according to the category. The results showed that the population of R. apiculata was found in large numbers at Station 3 (350 ind) and a small/small amount was found at Station 1 (137 ind). In addition, Stations 1, 2 and 4 have only one grouping population of R. apiculata based on the Bhattacharya method, while Station 3 has two groupings. Furthermore, the highest R. apiculata density for tree category was obtained at Station 4 (1433.33 ind/m2), saplings category at Station 3 (10488.89 ind/m2) and seedlings category at Station 4 (3666667 ind/m2). Furthermore the water temperature ranged from 28.3 – 30.7°C, salinity 27.3 – 31.3, pH 7.3 – 7.9, DO 5.2 – 6.4 and redox potential ranged from 102 – 124 mV. Based on the standard criteria and guidelines for determining mangrove damage according to the Decree of the Minister of Environment No. 201 of 2004, the population density of R. apiculata at the research location is still classified as medium and refers to the Decree of the State Minister of Environment No. 51 of 2004 concerning Sea Water Quality Standards for Marine Biota, as a whole the range of measured water quality parameters is still within tolerance limits for life mangroves.

Nusa Penida, Bali was designated as a Marine Protected Area (MPA) by the Klungkung Local Government in 2010 with support from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Republic of Indonesia. Mangrove forests located in Nusa Lembongan Island inside the Nusa Penida MPA jurisdiction have decreased in biomass quality and vegetation cover. It’s over the last decades due to influences from natural phenomena and human activities, which obstruct mangrove growth. Study the mangrove forest changes related to the marine protected areas implementation are important to explain the impact of the regulation and its influence on future conservation management in the region. Mangrove forest in Nusa Penida MPA can be monitored using remote sensing technology, specifically Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) from Landsat satellite imagery combined with visual and statistical analysis. The NDVI helps in identifying the health of vegetation cover in the region across three different time frames 2003, 2010, and 2017. The results showed that the NDVI decreased slightly between 2003 and 2010. It’s also increased significantly by 2017, where a mostly positive change occurred landwards and adverse change happened in the middle of the mangrove forest towards the sea.

Due to continuous degradation of mangrove forests, the accurate monitoring of spatial distribution and species composition of mangroves is essential for restoration, conservation and management of coastal ecosystems. With leaf hyperspectral reflectance, this study aimed to explore the potential of continuous wavelet analysis (CWA) combined with different sample subset partition (stratified random sampling (STRAT), Kennard-Stone sampling algorithm (KS), and sample subset partition based on joint X-Y distances (SPXY)) and feature extraction methods (principal component analysis (PCA), successive projections algorithm (SPA), and vegetation index (VI)) in mangrove species classification. A total of 301 mangrove leaf samples with four species (Avicennia marina, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Kandelia obovate and Aegiceras corniculatum) were collected across six different regions. The smoothed reflectance (Smth) and first derivative reflectance (Der) spectra were subjected to CWA using different wavelet scales, and a total of 270 random forest classification models were established and compared. Among the 120 models with CWA of Smth, 88.3% of models increased the overall accuracy (OA) values with an improvement of 0.2–28.6% compared to the model with the Smth spectra; among the 120 models with CWA of Der, 25.8% of models increased the OA values with an improvement of 0.1–11.4% compared to the model with the Der spectra. The model with CWA of Der at the scale of 23 coupling with STRAT and SPA achieved the best classification result (OA = 98.0%), while the best model with Smth and Der alone had OA values of 86.3% and 93.0%, respectively. Moreover, the models using STRAT outperformed those using KS and SPXY, and the models using PCA and SPA had better performances than those using VIs. We have concluded that CWA with suitable scales holds great potential in improving the classification accuracy of mangrove species, and that STRAT combined with the PCA or SPA method is also recommended to improve classification performance. These results may lay the foundation for further studies with UAV-acquired or satellite hyperspectral data, and the encouraging performance of CWA for mangrove species classification can also be extended to other plant species.

ABSTRAK Bakau (Rhizopora mucronata) merupakan salah satu jenis mangrove yang terdapat pada kawasan rehabilitasi hutan mangrove Desa Mojo, Kabupaten Pemalang.Jenis mangrove ini ditanam karena bibitnya mudah diperoleh dan disemai sehingga mendominasi pada kawasan tersebut.Untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor yang berkaitan dengan pertumbuhan mangrove, maka telah dilakukanpenelitian tentang hubungan antara kualitas tanahdengan luasan helai daun mangrove.Jumlah sampel yang digunakan adalah405helai daun yang dipilih dengan kondisi yang sama dan berasal dari 9 stasiun penelitian. Dalam stasion yangsama dilakukan pula pengambilan sampel tanah sampai kedalaman 50 cm, untuk dianalisis kandungan bahan organik dan sifat fisik-kimia.  Sampel daun yang diperoleh kemudian diproses dalam photo studio mini buatan untuk diambil gambarnya menggunakan kamera digital beresolusi tinggi dalam jarak 30 cm dan dihitung luasannya denganperangkat lunak komputer Corel Draw X7.Analisis data menggunakan PCA dan hasilnya menunjukkan, bahwa dari semua variabel yang diukur dari tanah, maka hanya faktorbahan organik saja yang memiliki korelasi positif tinggi dengan luasan daunR. mucronata. Kata kunci: Pohon Bakau, Luasan Daun, Hutan Mangrove Desa Mojo ABSTRACT Mangrove (Rhizopora mucronata) is one of the mangrove species found in the rehabilitation area of mangrove forest of Mojo Village, Pemalang Regency. This type of mangrove is grown because the seeds are easy to obtain and sowing so as to dominate in the area. To know the factors related to the growth of mangroves, so has been conducted research on the relationship between soil quality with the extent of mangrove leaves. The number of samples used is 405 leaf blades selected under the same conditions and derived from 9 research stations. In the same station, soil sampling is done up to 50 cm depth, to analyze organic material content and physical-chemical properties. The leaf samples were then processed in an artificial mini studio photo to be photographed using a high resolution digital camera within 30 cm and calculated the extent of Corel Draw X7 computer software. Analysis of data using PCA and the results show, that of all variables measured from the soil, then only the factor of organic material alone has a high positive correlation with the leaf area of R. mucronata. Keywords: Mangrove, Leaf Extents, Mojo Village’s Mangrove Forest
