Subject. "Grand challenges", creating risks and threats to economic development, are an important factor to assess new opportunities and reserves for business entities' development, which provide for business continuity. To manage business entities in the face of "grand challenges", it is necessary to devise accounting and analytical support and a system of indicators to ensure the sustainability of development and the continuity of operations. Objectives. The aim is to substantiate a model characterizing "grand challenges" and to determine quantitative and qualitative indicators that describe the sustainability of development and business continuity of economic entities at various hierarchical levels. Methods. The methodology of the study rests on the resource-oriented approach. We developed and tested it through the economic analysis of sustainable development of economic entities. Results. We present a model, describing "grand challenges", identify prerequisites for their emergence, on the basis of which a system of indicators is developed. We also identify indicators, characterizing the sustainable development and ensuring the business continuity at various hierarchical levels, and threshold levels of indicators of sustainable development in the face of "grand challenges". Conclusions. The developed model will enable to expand the methodology for economic analysis and build a system of indicators that help determine the reserves and new conditions for the functioning of business entities during the transition to a new stage of development.

Subject. The article addresses the need to develop new methodological tools for assessing threats to and opportunities of sustainable development of business entities, enabling to adequately reflect their activities in the analysis of their interaction in rapidly changing economic conditions. Objectives. The aim is to underpin a methodological approach to the formation of indicators for assessing the sustainable development of business entities in the face of grand challenges, which rests on the grouping of indicators according to the type of economic development. Methods. The study draws on resource-oriented approach, which we developed and tested in the economic analysis of sustainable development of business entities, and statistical methods. Results. Based on the methods of cognitive and resource-oriented analysis, we defined a set of basic indicators, characterizing the intellectual capital. The implementation of the methodological approach enabled to identify two baseline indicators of intellectual capital involved in the formation of a Grand Challenge, i.e. the number of computers with access to global information networks and the cost of patents and licenses for inventions, industrial designs, utility models. We developed and evaluated integrated indicators of intellectual capital to determine the possibilities of sustainable development of economic entities of the Russian Federation. Conclusions. The offered approach helps define a set of indicators of different types of capital to be included in the integrated reporting and analysis of possibilities of economic entities’ sustainable development in the face of grand challenges. The produced set of indicators is basic and may change.

Subject. Mentioned in the Strategy for Scientific and Technological Development of the Russian Federation, Grand Challenges entail difficulties, threats and opportunities for the national development. The complicated nature, scale of problems and threats cannot be addressed, eliminated or resolved by multiplying resources consumed. This aspect should be taken into consideration in evaluating, analyzing and predicting the sustainable development of economic agents operating amid grand challenges. Objectives. We outline a methodology for a set of methods used to evaluate, analyze and predict the sustainable development of economic agents operating amid grand challenges. Methods. The methodological framework comprises the resource-based approach, which we set up and tested when conducting the economic analysis of the sustainable development of economic agents. Results. The article produced an algorithm for evaluating, analyzing and predicting the sustainable development of economic agents operating amid grand challenges. We determined sustainable development indicators throughout hierarchical levels and thresholds based on the Fibonacci numbers, which satisfy the sustainable development amid grand challenges. Conclusions. There should be a set of subjective, industrial and technological indicators to monitor the performance of national programs and strategies and governance of economic operations, since such indicators could help gauge the impact of the grand challenge throughout its phases. The proposed algorithm will amplify the economic analysis methodology and highlight partial and integrated indicators measuring reserves and new operational environment of economic agents in the time of grand challenges.

The article reveals the features of accounting and analytical support for entrepreneurial risk management. It was found that entrepreneurial risk is a certain act as a result of which the business entity may suffer losses. It is proved that entrepreneurial risks should be classified according to the specifics of origin, the specifics of the legal settlement, the specifics of industry affiliation, the specifics of the consequences, the specifics of the duration of the impact of entrepreneurial risk, the specifics of the expression of will, the specifics of the form, the specifics of the level of typicality, the specifics of the level of validity, the specifics of the possibility of assessing and resolving the impact, the specifics of the possibility of insuring entrepreneurial risks, the specifics of the occurrence of entrepreneurial risks by sources of origin, the specifics of the scale of the impact, the specifics of the level of losses and the specifics of character. It is established that the process of entrepreneurial risk management is the process of managing the activities of the business entity as a whole and its individual parts, and takes into account the management of not only existing risks but also potential entrepreneurial risks in space and time, that may occur in the future during entrepreneurial activities. It is determined that the process of entrepreneurial risk management should take into account the stage of preparation and implementation of appropriate measures to reduce the risk as a result of making erroneous decisions by business entities, the stage of reducing the impact of possible negative consequences that may occur, especially, if the entity operates in unexpected changes and alarming development trends, as well the stage of development and implementation of the Declaration on Risk Management and the Risk Management Program. It is established that the important information on which it is possible to estimate possibility of occurrence of entrepreneurial risks, is the accounting reporting. In the perspective of further research, it is recommended to study entrepreneurial risks in Ukraine in the context of such aspects as causes, consequences and management.

The United Nations at its present stage of development is a political system of formally coordinate Members, each able to place before the Organization the demands that flow from its own environment. One can hypothesize that a stable environment will yield a stable pattern of demands on the United Nations political system. Similarly it can be hypothesized that a change in the environment—the major components of which are the Member States—will change the pattern of demands made on the political system of the Organization. It is on just such a change that this article proposes to focus. In the period between 1955 and the end of 1968, 37 African states, largely devoid of experience in the contemporary international arena and struggling with the multitudinous problems of fashioning coherent national entities in the face of both internal and external pressures, joined the United Nations. The admission of these states substantially altered the Organization's environment and the demands being made upon it. It is suggested here that these changes have been so substantial as to alter the nature of the political process of the Organization. Concern will be focused successively upon the nature of the entry of the African states into the United Nations, a determination of the areas in which the African states have made demands upon the system, the constitutional structure of the Organization as it has evolved under the impact of the African states, the impact of the African states on the handling of major issues, and finally on trends and implications of the role of African states in the United Nations.

Motives: The article examines the potential of the digital environment in the sustainable supply of fresh food to the big city. Urbanization is a difficult process to manage, and adapting it to the demands of sustainable development requires the search for the new opportunities and ways. In this context, it is highly probable to use the opportunities provided by the digital environment through the Internet, digital technologies and devices, or other digital means. The place and role of ensuring food security in cities and the sustainability of urbanization processes have been little studied. Aim: It is expedient to assess the role of the suburban zone and the zone of transportation of these products to the city in the provision of large cities with fresh food products in terms of sustainable development of urbanization zones. Results: Research and calculations conducted on the example of the Baku agglomeration (Azerbaijan) have provided an opportunity to comment on the impact of food security factors on the sustainability of urbanization processes in the digital environment. To determine the changes in the transportation zone of fresh milk to this agglomeration, we calculated the proposed “weighted average distance of transportation” indicator. It was revealed that the formation of the digital environment in the agricultural production business entities is faster in the areas located closer to the Baku agglomeration.

Each stage of the economic development of any society is associated with the consumption of natural resources. Thus, the impact of human society on the environment determines the environmental conditionality of the economy. The problem of economy – the maximum satisfaction of needs – becomes the central problem of ecology, as the development of civilization has caused a large volume of resources’ consumption. National economies can be at one of the following development stages: traditional, industrial, post-industrial society. Each stage is characterized by a certain state, the structure of economy, the type and amount of used resources, the attitude to the natural environment and, accordingly, the type of ecological and economic development. In an industrial society, the environmental conditioning of the economy is associated with the use and minimization of resource consumption in order to increase the economic efficiency, but not with understanding that the resources are exhaustible and non-renewable. Therefore, when moving to the postindustrial stage of development, it is important to understand its connection with sustainable development, which consists in synchronizing the innovative development of the productive forces of industry and the "green" nature-saving technologies.
