More than twenty years ago, Mexico City suffered the most disastrous earthquake in its history. The death toll from the 1985 Earthquake was an estimated 10,000, with a further 30,000 injured and 100,000 left homeless. 416 buildings were destroyed and over 3,000 seriously damaged. After this event, the profound necessity of effective strategies lead to the creation of the Earthquake Disaster Prevention Project, supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The main goal of this project was to contribute to the safety of the Mexican population, and eventually become an important aid also for Central America and the Caribbean region. In 1996, the Earthquake Disaster Prevention Project between Japan and Mexico was successfully completed. The most significant symbol of its achievements is the research facility called CENAPRED. The main purpose of this center has been to work as an organization executing investigations, training and disseminating activities. From that time, various research activities regarding the disaster prevention have been carried out, establishing a new follow-up era of cooperation. Nowadays, the cooperation between Japan and Mexico keeps strengthening and now includes many areas of action. It carries out, promotes and coordinates research activities not only in terms of earthquake protection strategies, but in general for any type of disaster, like volcanoes or landslides. A successful example is the MEXT scholarship program, which provides high level education to students from developing countries. Every year hundreds of foreign students arrive to Japan to carry out graduate studies in different areas, being engineering one of the strongest.

AbstractInter-microsatellite PCR (ISSR-PCR) markers were used to identify and to examine the genetic diversity of eleven Beauveria bassiana isolates with different geographic origins. The variability and the phylogenetic relationships between the eleven strains were analyzed using 172 ISSR-PCR markers. A high level of polymorphism (near 80%) was found using these molecular markers. Seven different isolates showed exclusive bands, and ISSR primer 873 was able to distinguish between all the strains. The dendrogram obtained with these markers is robust and in agreement with the geographical origins of the strains. All the isolates from the Caribbean region were grouped together in a cluster, while the other isolates grouped in the other cluster. The similarity exhibited between the two clusters was less than 50%. This value of homology shows the high genetic variability detected between the isolates from the Caribbean region and the other isolates. ISSR-PCR markers provide a quick, reliable and highly informative system for DNA fingerprinting, and allowed the identification of the different B. bassiana isolates studied.

In modern school, children need to play a central role. It should become a place where they are exploring, examining, solving problems and to lead them to a deliberate dialogue. Students need to experience the school as a place where the child develops in cognitive, emotional and social sense, where the child's motivation to work is at a high level. An active school is more focused on a young man who is treated as a whole person whose intellectual potentials need to engage more in the teaching process. The active school is based on compulsory education standards based on which the orientation plans and work programs are designed. Such access also implies a part of teaching that is flexible and varies depending on the student's interest. In teaching, active learning methods are based on work and intellectual engagement of students and research activities. The goal of an active school is not only the adoption of a curriculum, but also the versatile personality development of students. The active school evaluates not only the degree of competence of the knowledge defined by the educational standards, but also the progress of the children in comparison with the initial situation, the motivation and interest of the students for work and activity, the development of the personality and the satisfaction of the student's teaching that is realized.Keywords: mathematics; learning; co-operation; classes.

Background: In Romania, foreign medical students have the possibility to learn the same curricula in Romanian, English, or French. The purpose of the study: To compare students’ satisfaction with training and future career opportunities from the perspective of Romanian and foreign students. Methods: The study was conducted for terminal year medical students divided into two samples, Romanian and foreign language students. The participants were invited to fill in a satisfaction questionnaire about their professional training and to express preferences for future career. Results: Foreign students were more satisfied with the lectures and the teaching staff. They attended optional lectures more frequently in comparison with Romanian students. Foreign students were more inclined to attend medical conferences and to enroll in PhD programs. While Romanian students were more inclined to consider emigration, foreign students prefer to practice in their native countries. Conclusions: Compared to their Romanian colleagues, foreign students were more engaged in educational and research activities.

The establishment of a new surveying engineering program at The University of Calgary represents a major milestone in the history of the surveying profession in Canada. It is the first university surveying engineering center west of Ontario, and the establishment of the program required two decades of dedicated work by the profession in western Canada. This program includes an undergraduate component, graduate studies, research activities and continuing education. The Division of Surveying Engineering started in September, 1979, with two full-time professors, five sessional lecturers and 22 undergraduate students. Three additional full-time professors are joining the Division for the second semester, and about 10 graduate students have already applied for graduate programs. When fully operational, circa 1981, the Division of Surveying Engineering will have about 12 teaching members and will occupy 900 m2 of newly renovated floor space in The University of Calgary engineering complex.

The study aimed to identify the effectiveness of sports marketing strategies from the point of view of graduate students in the faculties of physical education at Jordanian universities. The study relied on the descriptive approach, and A questionnaire consisting of (4) areas, including (24) items, was used to collect data after verifying its validity and reliability. The study sample consisted of (210) students of graduate studies in the faculties of physical education at the Universities of Jordan and Yarmouk University. The results showed that the level of effectiveness of sports marketing strategies came at a high level, the most prominent of which was the marketing of tournaments and games, followed by the marketing of television, followed by the field of marketing methods, and the lowest level of marketing advertising and advertising to a high degree for all fields. The results showed that there were no statistically significant differences in the fields of marketing methods, advertising marketing, television marketing, marketing of tournaments and games according to the variables (gender, Cumulative Average, program). There were statistically significant differences according to gender to favor of males and degree variable to favor of the Master's degree in the marketing of tournaments and matches domain. The results showed that there were no differences in the effectiveness of sports marketing strategies as a whole depending on gender and Cumulative Average variables, while there were statistically significant differences according to the degree in favor of the Masters. The study recommended the need to pay attention to sports marketing strategies in all fields and enhance their role in improving the activity of sports institutions and federations.

The increasing interest in performance-based earthquake engineering has promoted research on the improvement of hazard-consistent seismic input definition and on advanced criteria for strong motion record selection to perform nonlinear time history analyses. Within the ongoing research activities to improve the representation of seismic actions and to develop tools as a support for engineering practice, this study addresses the selection of displacement-spectrum-compatible real ground motions, with special reference to Italy. This involved (1) the definition of specific target displacement spectra for Italian sites, constrained—both at long and short periods—by results of probabilistic seismic hazard analyses; (2) the compilation of a high-quality strong ground motion database; and (3) the development of a software tool for computer-aided displacement-based record selection. Application examples show that sets of unscaled, or lightly scaled, accelerograms with limited record-to-record spectral variability can also easily be obtained when a broadband spectral compatibility is required.

<p>Under the influences of natural disasters, disabled people are often the majority of sufferers when a serious disaster happens. Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (3WCDRR) calls for agencies of the United Nations system, academia, the private sector, civil society, and people with disabilities to integrate the issue of the physically and mentally disabled into the new global framework for disaster reduction. Taiwan is one of the regions in the world where earthquakes occur very frequently. According to the statistics of the Taiwan Central Weather Bureau, an average of 23,000 earthquakes occurs in Taiwan each year, including about 1,000 sensational earthquakes. Earthquake prevention is therefore the essential task for campus disaster prevention and rescue programs. The school should recognize different evacuation abilities for students in special education classes, and know their special needs in earthquake disaster drills and emergency response ability.</p><p>In this study, four special education classes in elementary schools were selected as examples to understand the current situation in the engagement with earthquake drills by way of interviews and questionnaires. The evacuation abilities of students in special classes are classified into four categories based on the issues of physical environment, manpower arrangement, and both students’ and teachers’ educations in earthquake prevention. On the basis of the results, the conclusions regarding to those three issues can be drawn as follows. For the first issue concerning the physical environment, the teaching space for special education classes should consider the students’ evacuation abilities. Second, both internal and external support manpower should understand the students' evacuation capabilities and give different assistance based on their abilities. Last, the education goals in earthquake disaster prevention for students in different categories should be different. The earthquake drills should be well arranged in the aspects of time, place, equipment, and manpower assistance. It is important to note that special education teachers and assistants should have good knowledge in earthquake disaster prevention, understand the appropriate response to earthquake disaster, and strive to ensure the safety of students and themselves in the evacuation process.</p>
