The present investigation was carried out to determine the possible bioactive compounds of ethanolic extract of Elaeocarpus serratus (Elaeocarpaceae) has been subjected to GC-MS analysis. Thirty compounds were detected from the plant E. serratus. The highest peak area percentage of 19.12% was obtained by n-propanol (RT=3.04min.) and lowest peak area percentage of 2.34% was obtained by 1-propylthio-3,3,3-trifluoropropyl acetate (RT=11.57min.). The presence of various bioactive compounds confirms many aliments by traditional practitioners. However, isolation of individual phytochemical constituents may proceed to find a novel drug.

Gomphrena globosa (L.) has high medicinal values. All parts are been used as folk medicines. The extract of whole plant / flowers has shown different phytochemical constituents with various clinical properties. These phytochemicals recognised are responsible for various activities such as anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antibacterial, analgesic and cytotoxic. The ethanolic extract of Gomphrena globosa L. flowers of biochemical test indicates the presence of sterols, triterpenoid, tannins, phenols and flavonoids, and on GC-MS analysis it has shown 11 phytochemical compounds with different pharmacological activities. The major bioactive compounds are Docosanoic Acid, Docosyl Ester (25.404%) and Hexatriacontane (24.324%), has proven anti-inflammatory activity. Herbs are used in the treatment of several human ailment and diseases. The quantitative phytochemical composition, bioactive constituents of ethanol extract of Phyllanthus amarus leaves were determined. The quantitative phytochemical analysis of ethanol extract of Phyllanthus amarus found to be present in this study includes phenol, flavonoid, saponin, tannin and alkaloid.  The total content of phenol is 73.163µg/ml, flavonoid is 137.27µg/ml, tannin is 3.581µg/ml, alkaloid is 30.1 % and saponin is 34.822 ppm. The GC-MS analysis of bioactive constituents of the ethanol extract of Phyllanthus amarus leaves resulted in 44 compounds which have diverse use.  The various bioactive compounds present in P. amarus confirm its uses for the treatment of various ailments and diseases by traditional practitioners.

Objective: To investigate the antioxidant activity of ethanolic extract of Terminalia bellerica fruit pulp (TBFP), seed (TBS) and bark (TBB), and identification of phytochemical constituents of said extracts.Methods: The antioxidant potential of T. bellerica (TB) parts was evaluated by free radical scavenging activity (FRSA), superoxide anion radical scavenging activity (SARSA), hydroxyl radical scavenging activity (HRSA) and compared with reference standard quercetin. Lipid peroxidation (LPO), ferric thiocyanate activity (FTC) and reducing power (RP) of the plant extracts were also examined. The phytochemical constituents of said extracts have been quantified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometer (GC-MS) method.Results: Ethanolic extract of TBFP exhibited high phenolic content (254.33) followed by TBS (227.33) and TBB (185) mg/g of GAE. TBFP showed lowest IC50 for FRSA (62 µg/ml), SARSA (39 µg/ml) and HRSA (27 µg/ml) and highest RP (3.39 ascorbic acid equivalents/ml). TBB showed lowest IC50 for LPO (48 µg/ml) whereas TBS showed lowest IC50 for FTC (109 µg/ml). Predominant phyto-compounds present in TB extracts were quinic acid, gallic acid, ethyl galate, 9, 12 octadecadienoic acid and glucopyranose in varying concentrations as analyzed by GC-MS.Conclusion: On the basis of correlation of antioxidant studies with total phenolic content (TPC) and GC-MS analysis of different part of TB, it may be concluded that high concentration of total phenolics and other bioactive phytochemicals of TB extracts make it a potential source of nutraceutical antioxidants.

Objective: To identify the phytochemical constituents present in ethanolic leaves extract of Taraxacum officinale (T. o) and to elucidate the bioactive compounds. Methods: The fresh leaves of T. officinale (1000g) were shade dried at room temperature for 30 days and the dried leaves were made into a fine powder. The ethanolic leaves extract obtained was dried with help of desiccator and rotatory evaporator. The dried samples tested for phytochemical analysis and bioactive compounds profiling through GC-MS analysis. Results: The phytochemical screening studies showed presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, phenol, cardiac glycosides and anthraquinones. in the leaves extract of T. officinale. GC-MS analysis showed 10 essential bioactive compounds and it revealed the presence of significant anticancer, Antimicrobial  and antidiabetic compounds. Conclusions: The ethanol extract of T. o possess the most important phytochemical compounds and it has various  medicinal  properties to cure dangerous diseases and disorders. The present study was focused to scrutinize the presence of phytoconstituents in the ethanolic extract of Vetiveria lawsonii root using GC-MS. The GC-MS analysis of Vetiveria lawsonii root was performed using Agilent 6890-JEOL GC-Mate-II Mass Spectrometer. The result of the study showed the presence of six bioactive compounds in the ethanolic extract. On account of this investigation, we can conclude that the ethanolic extract of Vetiveria lawsonii root shows the presence of 6 bioactive phytoconstituents. This might be the cause for the various pharmacological activities of the plant.

Introduction: Medicinal plants still represent untapped sources of novel compounds with potential therapeutic effects for mitigating human maladies.Pterocarpus marsupium, commonly known as Bijasal, is a well-known drug in ayurvedic system of medicine. Materials and methods: The dried bark powder of P.marsupium was extracted by Soxhlet with methanol and analyzed by gas chromatography, while the mass spectra data of the compounds found in the extract was matched with the data available at National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) library. Results: The results of the GC-MS analysis provide different peaksdetermining the presence of 10 major phytocomponents, that are 1-Penten-3-one,1-(2,6,6-trimethyl-1-cyclohexen-1-yl)-; Geranyl isovalerate; 2-Pentadecanone,6, 10, 14-trimethyl;Cyclopropaneoctanal, 2-octyl-; Octadecanoic acid;10-Octadecanoic acid, methyl ester; Heptadecanoic acid, 16-methyl,-methyl ester; Phytol; 4,8,12,16-Tetramethyl heptadecan-4-olide; Dasycarpidan-1-methanol, acetate with different therapeutic activities. Conclusion: The presence of these bioactive compounds justifies that the Pterocarpus marsupiumcan offer a base for using this compound as herbal alternative for the synthesis and development of new drug to treat various infectious diseases. However, isolation of individual phytochemical constituents might be useful to formulate a new novel drug.

The bark of Bauhinia tomentosa L. is used wildly used for the treatment of varies ailments such as inflammation, wound, dysentery, skin diseases and for microbial infections. In the present study the ethanolic extract of the bark of Bauhinia tomentosa L. has been subjected to Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis, while the mass spectra of the compounds found in the extract was matched with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) library. GC-MS analysis revealed the presence of fourteen phytochemical constituents, These compounds were identified by comparing their retention time and peak area with that of literature and by interpretation of mass spectra. The major chemical constituents are 4-(Benzyloxy)-1-methoxy-2(3,7-dimethylocta-2,6-dienyl)-benzene (10.88%), Levodopa (6.39%) and (9E, 12E) - Methyl octadeca-9,12-dienoate (5.68%) which possess many biological activities. Hence these studies pave a platform to screen many bioactive components for wound healing.

Objective: To investigate the phytochemicals and GC-MS analysis of ethanol extracts of Silybum marianum. Methods: The air-dried leaves were powdered and subjected to selective sequential extraction using solvents of increasing polarity through percolation, ethanol to obtain an ethanolic extract. Then, each of the extracts was further subjected to gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Results: Qualitative determination of the different biologically active compounds from crude extracts of Silybum marianum using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry revealed different types of high and low molecular weight chemical entities with varying amounts present in each of the extracts. These chemical compounds are considered biologically and pharmacologically important. Conclusions: The study established the chemical composition and anticancer activity of the plant.
