Professor Antonina Yashchenko belongs to the group of outstanding morphologists, who developed and continue working productively for the popularization and implementation of the fundamental aspects, as well as spreading of applied lectinology methods in the morphologic research. As the result of her numerous studies in the field of lectin histochemistry were received new data on the applicability of a set of original lectin preparations purified and characterized in the «Lectinotest» from raw materials of the Carpathian region. Lectin-peroxidase and lectin-gold conjugates were applied in immunobiological research, light and electron microscopy, the methods of indirect identification of lectin receptors were worked out. Eventually these results were collected in a DSci dissertation of A. Yashchenko «Lectins as markers in normal and pathological conditions», conferred in 2004. This dissertation included a huge amount of authorized observations concerning wide possibilities of lectin histochemistry methods for studies of cell differentiation, identification of cellular subpopulations and diagnosis of pathological processes. Professor Yashchenko intensely studied the patterns of the rearrangement and redistrubution of lectin-reactive glycopolymers in the process of embryonic and postnatal morphogenesis, found out the possibilities of lectins’ application as selective histochemical markers of certain types of cells; studied the heterogeneity of lectins binding to cellular subpopulations depending on their tissue and organ specificity, as well as on the degree of their differentiation. Based on the results of the conducted research Prefessor Yashchenko published more than 250 papers in the professional journals, as well received 2 certificates of inventions. Published in 1999 «Atlas of Microanatomy of the Oral Cavity Organs» of her authorship got «The Yaroslav Mudryy award» of the Academy of Sciences of Higher School of Ukraine. Professor Antonina Yashchenko participated as a co-author in the National textbooks «Histology, cytology, and embryology» for Medical (2018) and Dentistry (2020) students. For these, as well as other morphology-related activities, in 2021 she was granted «A honorary award of the Ukrainian scientific society of anatomists, histologists, embryologists and topographo-anatomists»

The paper presents the results of a techno-morphological analysis of items made of antler obtained as a result of the collections from the 1960s-1990s from the site near the village of Michnievičy Smorgon District of the Grodno Region (north-western Belarus). Currently, more than 100 artifacts are known from this site, as well as a large number of fauna residues with no visible traces of processing. Radiocarbon dating was obtained for some categories of products, which link them to 9-2 thousand BC. The largest part of the collection refers to the period of the Mesolithic - Neolithic. At the first stage of work, the most expressive and numerous group of artifacts made of horn (24 exemplars), stored in the fonds of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, was selected for a techno-morphological analysis. The degree of preservation of the external surface of objects is relatively good, which made it possible to analyze macro-traces related to the technology of manufacturing various categories of products, on the basis of which a process flow was proposed - from the selection of raw materials to the finished product. The analysis of the technological traces recorded on the products allowed us to highlight the differences in the manufacturing processes of the oldest tools. In addition, on the basis of the macro signs of utilitarian wear, preliminary observations on the functional using of objects were obtained. According to technological and morphological features, the whole of the analyzed material was divided into conditional categories of instruments with a selected heel and without it. The presence or absence of this element, apparently, influenced the method of using objects in various household situations.

Currently, there is an increase in the world’s population against the background of a reduction in land suitable for growing traditional agricultural crops. This is especially true for Asian countries. Due to a number of factors, the areas of fertile land are decreasing, and the areas of saline land are increasing; arid areas of the planet are expanding. In this regard, it is important to introduce plants into the culture that can grow on poor, arid, saline soils. The purpose of the research is to study vegetable raw materials from fruits Caragana arborescens and C. frutex, undergoing introduction tests in the arboretum of the Tsytsin Main Botanical Garden of Russian Academy of Sciences, to find out the possibilities and advantages of their use in the food industry in a comparative aspect. A comparative assessment of the size and weight characteristics of the fruits and seeds of C. arborescens and C. frutex studied by us indicates the possibilities of their industrial food use in the future, along with a good introduction, and, probably, plantation potential of these plants.

The reviewed book by A.N. Eremeeva, Dr. Sci. (History), and by A.Kh. Sheudzhen, Dr. Sci. (Biology), academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, is devoted to the life and scientific work of Aleksandr Shmuk (1886–1945), the famous Soviet agrochemist and biochemist, full member of the All-Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences named after V. I. Lenin. The analysis of Russian and foreign literature, scientific and sociopolitical periodicals of the first half of the twentieth century, documents from nine central and regional archives allowed the authors to reconstruct the biography of the scientist and consider it in the context of sociopolitical and economic transformations. The authors describe in detail Shmuk’s way to science in the New Alexandria and Moscow Agricultural Institutes, and note the role of his teachers in choosing a scientific specialization. Special attention is paid to the period in Krasnodar, where Shmuk realized himself as an internationally renowned scientist and an organizer of science (he headed the All-Union Institute of Tobacco) and education (as the founder and head of the Department of Agrochemistry of the Kuban Institute of Agriculture). The authors describe in detail Shmuk’s works on the chemical composition of tobacco, soil chemistry, and methods of agrochemical research. They note that the methods of obtaining nicotine, citric and malic acids from raw materials, which were developed by Schmuk and provided import substitution, were strategically important for the Soviet state in the pre-war period and especially during the years of the Great Patriotic War.
