Pollen managements consisted of suitable harvest timing, pollen drying to a certain misture content, pollen viability testing, and pollen storage. Maize pollen was sensitive to desiccation. This experiment was aimed to determine preservation technique in reducing pollen water content while maintaining its viability. Maize variety which used in this research was BIMA 3 as male line hybrid maize. Pollen viability testing used potassium iodide (KI) 1%. This experiment used randomized block design with 3 factors and 2 replicates, i.e. boron (H3BO3) fertilizers (0 and 3 kg ha-1 ), drying techniques (MgCl2, silica gel, zeolite, preservation in air-cond room (18±1 °C; RH43%), and drying periods (0, 2, 4, 6, 8 hours). The observation response of this experiment were viability and pollen weight changing. The result showed that there is no interaction between three factors to observation response, while drying technique and drying period combinations showed interactions to observation response. Pollen maize drying used silica gel for 4 hours was able to decline much pollen weight and maintain pollen viability better than other techniques.

Production of maize hybrid seed is hindered by relatively poor production by the male line pollen; short live of the pollen which was ascribed to desiccation and dehydration sensitive and flowering asynchrony between male and female lines. The aims of this study were to enhance production and viability of male line pollen and also to determine the suitable storage condition for maintaining pollen viability in order to be used for production of hybrid seed. The research consisted of two experiments. The first experiment was arranged in split plot randomized block design with NPK dosages as main plot (0, 300, 600, 900 kg ha-1) and application of boron as sub-plot (0, 1.5, 3, 4.5, 6 kg ha-1), replicated three times. The second experiment used randomized block design with two factors, i.e. storage temperature (-196 oC and -20 oC) and storage period (0, 1, 2, 3, 4 weeks). The result showed that NPK 900 kg ha-1 increased the number of spike per tassel from 9.3 to 10.7. Application of NPK 600 kg ha-1 or boron 1.5 kg ha-1 improved pollen viability. Combination of NPK 900 kg ha-1 and boron 6 kg ha-1 resulted in the highest pollen viability of 95.3%. Pollen after being stored for four weeks either in -196 ºC or -20 ºC was possible to be used for seed production with 20% seed set.<br /><br />Keywords: boron, freezer, liquid nitrogen, NPK dosage, pollen viability  <br /><br />

Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyeleksi tanaman jagung berdaya hasil tinggi. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di PT Syngenta Seed Indonesia Kediri Field Station dusun Sukodono desa Kedungmalang kecamatan Papar kabupaten Kediri, Jawa Timur yang berlangsung pada Mei sampai Oktober 2019. Rancangan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) non faktorial dengan 24 genotipe uji, 4 genotipe pembanding (untuk uji daya hasil) dengan 2 ulangan. Pada uji daya hasil diperoleh 7 genotipe yaitu 18ID010144, 18ID010123, 18ID006020, 18ID010135, 18ID010125, 18ID007419 dan 18ID010148 yang memiliki daya hasil tinggi diatas genotipe pembanding daya hasil tertinggi. 24 genotipe uji yaitu 18ID010125 memiliki daya hasil 14,12 ton ha-1 genotipe 18ID010123 memiliki daya hasil tertinggi 15,28 ton ha-1 dan genotipe 18ID010148 memiliki daya hasil 13,91 ton ha-1. Yield Trial Screening on S5 Hybrid Maize (Zea mays L.)Abstract. This research aims to select maize are high yield. This research was conducted at PT Syngenta Seed Indonesia Kediri Field Station Sukodono in Sukodono sub-village, Kedungmalang village, Papar district, Kediri district, East Java, which took place from May to October 2019. The design used in this research was Non Factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 24 test genotypes, 4 comparative genotypes (for yield trial) with 2 replications. The results showed that In yield trial was obtained 7 genotypes (18ID010144, 18ID010123, 18ID006020, 18ID010135, 18ID010125, 18ID007419 dan 18ID010148) which have high yields above the highest comparative yield genotypes. There were 3 genotypes selected from 24 test genotypes consist 18ID010125 has yield 14,12 tons ha-1,genotype 18ID010123 has the highest yield 15,28 tons ha-1 and genotype 18ID010148 has yield 13,91 tons ha-1.

The development of maize in shade areas is one of the efforts to increase the national maize production.The study objective was to determine the growth and yield adaptation of hybrid maize in shaded areas. The study was conducted in the sengon forest area of Kalices Village, Patehan District, Kendal Regency from March to September 2020. The study was designed using a randomized block design with split-split plots with treatments including: a) shade density (0%, 20% and 40%) as the main plot; b) cultivation technology (PTT and existing farmers) as sub-plots; and c) varieties (JH 37, Nasa 29 and Bisi 18) as sub-plots. Each treatment was replicated 3 times in order to obtain 18 treatment combinations and each replication was planted in a plot with a size of 350 m2. The parameters observed included the percentage of plants growing, plant height at harvest, age 50% male flowers, age 50% female flowers, cob height, cob length, cob weight, cob diameter, number of rows per cob, number of seeds per row, weight of dry seeds, seed moisture content, yield per plot and yield per hectare. The data were processed by analysis of variance and if there is a significant difference, it was further tested with DMRT at the 5% level. The results showed that the shading had a very significant effect on most of the yield components, namely cob length, number of seed rows per cob, wet and dry shell weight per 10 cobs, wet stubble weight per 10 plants, wet stubble weight, and dry shell weight. However, there is no significant effect on the growth components of growth power, cob circumference and cob position. The growth and yield adaptation of maize was better at 20% shade density compared to 40% shade density. On land with a shade density of 20%, the highest productivity was obtained in the Bisi 18 of 5.9 t/ha with a potential yield of 62.7%, followed by Nasa 29 of 5.8 t/ha with a potential yield of 58.41%, and JH 37 as much as 5.2 t/ha with a potential yield of 25%.

In the northeast of Brazil, the yield of eggplant has been unpredictable, especially when the flowering coincides with the hottest period of the year. The objective of this study was to evaluate eggplant genotypes for tolerance to high temperatures and to identify correlations between traits that aid the indirect selection of genotypes tolerant to high temperatures. Twenty-two genotypes were arranged in a randomized block design with four replications conducted in a greenhouse and in the open field, both located at the Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco, Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil, between December 2016 and May 2017. Positive correlations were obtained for the pairs, number of fruits per plant (NFP) x fruit fixation index (FFI), NFP x production per plant (PP) and PP x FFI and negative for the pair NFP x PP. The associations among the traits pollen viability (PV), FFI, NFP and PP were low and/or negative for all pairs in both environments and indicates that the indirect selection for FFI and PP through PV is not efficient. Higher values for PV, NFP, PP were observed in greenhouse cultivation, while in the field the genotypes had the best performance for fruit weight (FWe) FFI, fruit length (FL), fruit width (FWi) and length/width ratio of fruit (FLWR). In high temperature conditions, the genotypes CNPH 135, CNPH 93, CNPH 79, CNPH 84, CNPH 71, CNPH 71, CNPH 668, Ajimurasaki F1 and Kokushi Onaga F1 with good FFI and CNPH 135 with the highest FFI, PP, PV and PWe. The FFI in 45.4% of the genotypes under high temperatures was low, around 21.3 and 40.5%. In the field, genotypes CNPH 84 and CNPH 668 stood out with the best FFI (> 60%).

Abstract The development of adaptive and high-yielding maize varieties tolerant to shade stress is the right strategy to increase productivity and national maize production by utilizing the land in shaded conditions or under annual stands with 40% shade intensity. This study aimed to assess the best genetic material before releasing new shade tolerant maize varieties. This experiment was conducted in shaded and unshaded conditions in the Indonesian Cereal Research Institute, Maros, from July-October 2018 in KP. Pandu, North Sulawesi under coconut trees from March-August 2019. The design is using a randomized block design with three replications. The genetic material used consisted of 10 three-lane cross-hybrid maize, SHD01, SHD02, SHD03, SHD04, SHD05, SHD06, SHD07, SHD08, SHD09, and SHD10, and two comparison varieties of three-lane cross-hybrid maize, Bima-19, and P-35. Shade causes a reduction in light intensity, impacting changes in the microclimate under the shade. This is indicated by the dynamics of changes in light intensity which are quite high between maize crops in shaded and unshaded conditions. Tolerance to shade stress was assessed by measuring the difference in yield between unshaded environmental conditions and shaded environmental conditions to assess average productivity under normal and shaded conditions using the stress tolerance index (STI). The adaptive level in shade conditions of the candidate varieties SHD02 and SHD10 was significantly better than that of the Bima 19 and P 35 varieties, with the STI values of these candidates being 0.87 and 0.80, while the two comparison varieties Bima 19 and P 35, were respectively only 0.62.

To determine the effectiveness of NPK compound (10-30-20) fertilizer to maize growth and yield, a study was conducted on vertisol soil of the rainfed rice field in Gambir Kuning village, Kraton District Pasuruan Regency, from September 2020 until February 2021. The study was arranged in randomized block design with four replications. As the treatment i.e., A. control (without inorganic fertilizer), B. standard/local recommendation (NPK 15-15-15) 300 kg, C. NPK (10-30-20) 100 kg, D. NPK (10-30-20) 200 kg, E. NPK (10-30-20) 300 kg, F. NPK (10-30-20) 400 kg, G. NPK (10-30-20) 500 kg ha-1. Except for control, all treatments were fertilized with 200 kg Urea and 100 kg ZA. P27 hybrid maize variety was used as an indicator plant. The results showed that the applications of NPK compound ((10-30-20) were increasing plant growth and yield effectively. The optimum dosage of NPK (10-30-20) was 499.55 kg ha-1. Treatment F produced the highest yield (6.83 tons ha-1) and was significantly different from the control (4.13 tons ha-1) and higher than the standard (6.24 tons ha-1). This treatment also gave the highest RAE value (127,55).

The need for maize in West Kalimantan is around 320,000 tonnes per year, most of which is still imported from outside the region. Cultivating the maize under the shade of coconut trees is an alternative to meet the needs of maize in West Kalimantan and hence improvement on the cultivation of maize under the shade of coconut trees should be taken seriously. This study aims to determine the effect of nitrogen (N) fertilizer on the growth and yield of hybrid maize under the shade of coconut trees. The research method used a factorial randomized block design consisting of 2 factors. The first factor is maize variety (Nasa 29, Bima 19, Bima 20, JH 21 and Pioneer 35) and the second factor is nitrogen fertilization (64 kg ha-1, 86.5 kg ha-1, 109 kg ha-1, and 131.5 kg ha-) of N, hence 20 treatment combinations are obtained and repeated 3 times. The results showed that the Nasa 29 variety with N fertilizer of 131.5 kg ha-1 produced the highest maize grains yield of 4.8 t ha-1. Therefore the using of Nasa 29 variety with the 131.5 kg ha-1 of N fertilizer is recommended for intercropping system under the shade of coconut trees.

The objective of this study was to verify if Landrace maize compared to conventional hybrid corn differ in cycle and morphoagronomic traits when grown in agroecological system. The experiment was conducted at the Center for Agricultural Research at the Passo Fundo University, in a randomized block design with five replications, three Landraces of Creole maize (“Cabo roxo”, “Aztequinha” and “FrancoBrazileiro”) and hybrid maize. conventional (22s18 - Sementes Sempre). The fertilizer inputs were made with organic compost and Efficient Microorganisms (MS). Spontaneous species population, phenological cycle, stem diameter, ear and grain characteristics and yield per hectare were evaluated. The treatments did not differ significantly in the evaluation of the cycle in days presenting statistical difference only in plant height at the end of the cycle, where the Landrace “Cabo roxo” presented height of 209,9 cm. Regarding plant and ear characterization, the treatments differed significantly only in the evaluation of grain weight per ear, where the conventional hybrid reached 170,4 g. Thus, it was found that there is little significant difference between the local breeds and the conventional hybrid in the agroecological production system using mulch mass.

Abstract The study of infection variations of the cob rot disease caused by Fusarium verticillioides on the hybrid maize line Filial 1(F1) aimed to determine the variation of infection of corn cob rot disease caused by F. verticillioides. This research was carried out in Sinoa District, Bantaeng Regency from November 2020 to February 2021. Research design used was randomized Block Design with 3 replications. The treatment were Filial line (F1) of 6 lines (D71, D72, D73, D74, BMD75, D76) and 4 commercial varieties Indonesia (Pioner 36, BISI 2, BISI 18, P36, and NK22). Bisi 2 was used as susceptible check variety and NK 22 as a resistant check. The response of lines D71, D72, D74 and D75, were classified moderately resistant to cob rot disease F. v erticilliodies, infected with 30.66%, 32.66%, 33.33% and 28.00%, respectively. Strains D73 and D76, classified as susceptible (47.33% and 46.66%). BISI 2 was very susceptible (62.33% and 63.66%) and NK 22 was resistant (13.33%-14.00%) The variable of infected cobs showed D71, D72, D74 and D75 (27.53%-32.13%) significantly lower compared D73 and D76 (52.56%-44.76). %). Susceptible varieties Bisi 2 (63.06%-62.43%). Asymptomatic seeds (asymptomatic) can achieve internal infection of F. Verticilliodies seeds, ranging from 14.00%-16.33%.

<p>Adaptation study of hybrid maize varieties and improved varieties do subdistrict Wonreli Southwest Maluku district from September to December 2012. Study using a randomized block design repeated 3 times and farmers as replicates. Varieties tested is the Bima-3, Bima-4, Bima-5, Srikandi kuning, Lamuru, Lagaligo and Lokal MBD as a comparison. Fertilization is done drill, a distance of 5-7 cm from the plant, fertilizer dose of 300 kg urea, 200 kg SP-36, 100 kg of KCl and 1-2 t.ha-1manure. Urea fertilizer done twice, is 100 kg urea and entire SP36 and KCl at the age of 7-10 plants hst and residual urea 200 kg administered at 30 dap. Parameters observed plant height at harvest, High cob, cob diameter, cob length, number of rows/cob, number of grains / row, weight of 1000 seeds and Yield per hectare. The results of the study showed that of the varieties tested turned out varieties Bima-5 higher result of (6.7 t.ha-1) and the lowest result is Lokas MBD ( 5.7 t.ha-1).</p>
