A heart-disease is a lifelong sickness, an irreversible condition that patients have to endure for life. The present study aims at assessing the adjustment–neuroticism of cardiac patients. A total sample of 60 out of which 33 chronic and 27 acute onset cardiac illness were collected from Vintage Hospital, Goa using Personal Data-Sheet and Adjustment-Neuroticism Dimensional Inventory. The result found chronic onset of their cardiac illness have more overall  maladjustment  when compare with acute cardiac illness and as well as most of the domains of adjustment namely ; Self Esteem – Self Inferiority, Nauturality – Obsessiveness, Independence – Dependence and Innocence – Guilt except calmness and anxiety. So it can be concluded from this study that chronic onsets of cardiac illness have more maladjustment when compare with acute onset of cardiac illness.

Background.Matrix metalloproteinases, such as stromelysin-1, are implicated in the pathogenesis of coronary artery disease (CAD) and acute myocardial infarction (MI). A 5A/6A promoter polymorphism can regulate the transcription of the stromelysin-1 gene in an allele-specific manner. Evidence has been presented that the 6A allele is associated with the progression of coronary heart disease (CHD). In contrast, the 5A allele may be linked to the risk of MI.Results.To analyse the relation of the 5A/6A polymorphism with the risk and severity of CHD and the risk of MI, a case-control study of 515 healthy controls and 1848 participants who underwent coronary angiography for diagnostic purposes was conducted. In the total sample, the mean CHD scores—according to Gensini—were different between 5A/6A genotypes: 5A5A homozygotes had the lowest, 6A6A genotypes the highest and 5A6A heterozygotes intermediate scores. These differences were even more pronounced when the participants were restricted to individuals with a high coronary risk profile (high apoB levels, high Lp(a) levels, high glucose levels, combinations of either high apoB and Lp(a) levels or high apoB, Lp(a) and glucose plasma levels). Mean values were used as cut points for high-risk populations, respectively. In contrast, the 5A allele was not associated with the risk of CHD or MI. Even when angiographically controlled individuals without MI were compared with MI patients in subpopulations of participants with no, single, double and triple vessel disease, the frequencies of the 5A/6A and/or the 5A5A genotypes were not higher in each subgroup, respectively.Conclusions.The present results do not confirm an association of the 5A allele with the risk of MI, observed in another investigation, but strengthen the hypothesis of earlier studies that the 6A allele is a disease marker for progression of coronary heart disease. Further investigations should evaluate whether 6A allele carriers and especially 6A homozygotes might benefit from a more aggressive therapy against CHD progression.

This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between psychological mindedness and procrastination among university students and to determine gender differences in psychological mindedness and procrastination. The sample consisted of 200 university students (100 male and 100 female) aged 18 to 25 years from different faculties of Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. Psychological mindedness scale (PMS) by Conte et al., (1986) and Tuckman procrastination scale by Tuckman (1991) along with personal data sheet were used to assess the level of  psychological mindedness and procrastination among university students. Psychological mindedness is the ability to psychological understanding of the self and other’s behaviour, thought and feelings. It is openness to new ideas whereas procrastination is known as the irrational tendency of delaying the tasks until an individual experiences discomfort (Solomon & Rothblum 1984). Results showed that there were no significant gender differences in psychological mindedness and procrastination. Correlational analysis indicated that the psychological mindedness was significantly negatively correlated with the level of procrastination; i.e., the higher the level of psychological mindedness the lower the level of procrastination. Thus, it can be concluded that psychological mindedness play an important role in procrastination among university students. The theoretical and practical implications of these findings are discussed.

Introduction: Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of women in the US, yet too few women personalize awareness. In November 2014, the Women’s Heart Alliance (WHA) conducted a nationwide survey to determine barriers and opportunities to personalize awareness the women’s heart health epidemic. Methods: From September 18-26, 2014, a total of 1,011 U.S. women ages 25-60 were interviewed. Fieldwork was conducted online using GfK KnowledgePanel - the only representative panel of the American public. The KnowledgePanel covers 97% of U.S. households. Respondents are selected using random probability address-based sampling; computers and Internet service are provided to respondents who do not have them to ensure fuller representation of the American public. The survey took 15 minutes on average to administer. Final data were weighted by age, region, race/ethnicity, education, and income, according to the March 2014 Current Population Survey. The margin of sampling error for this poll is +/- 3.4 percentage points (total sample); this is higher for subgroups. Results: Few (27%) can name a woman in their lives with heart disease. Younger and middle-aged women ages 25-49 are less apt than those in the 50-60 age-range to know a woman affected by heart disease (23% vs. 37%). Even fewer (11%) women can name a woman who has died from it. Women who report knowing another woman with heart disease are more apt to express concern and - importantly - bring up this issue with their doctor (Figure). Conclusions: Heart disease in women is largely invisible. A personal connection with heart disease is associated with personalized awareness. Campaigns should make heart disease “real” to the millions of American women who say they have no personal connection to the disease.

Obesity and its associated disorders are leading causes of morbidity and premature mortality around the world. Obese persons are also vulnerable to low self-esteem and depression because of the psychological and social stigmata that often accompany being overweight. Despite conventional wisdom that obesity results from deficient self-control, research has provided insight into the physiology behind unwanted weight gain. Obesity is recognized as a chronic condition resulting from an interaction between environmental influences and an individual’s genetic predisposition. This review contains 3 figures, 13 tables, and 126 references. Keywords: Obesity, Body mass index, Hypertension, impaired glucose tolerance or diabetes, hyperlipidemia, heart disease, pulmonary disease, gastroesophageal reflux, sleep apnea

The present study aimed to find out the difference in the aggression level of Board Students of employed and non-employed mothers. Total sample of 200 students was taken from five CBSE affiliated schools of Pithoragarh district (Uttarakhand). Personal data schedule along with the Aggression Scale was used to calculate the result. Aggression Scale used in the study was developed by Pal and Naqvi (2000) which comprised of 60 questions. Stratified Random Sampling was used to select the data and t-test was applied to calculate the level of significance. While compiling the results, significant difference was found between the male and female adolescents of 10th standard of employed mothers and even between the male and female adolescents of 12th standard of employed mothers. Male and female adolescents of 12th standard of non-employed mother have also shown significant difference on the level of aggression. In all the three cases Male adolescents have shown greater aggression than female adolescents.
