The outbreak of Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has accelerated the process of digitalization in higher education setting and the field of learning English for academic purposes is no exception. An adequate selection of available online resources of high didactic and pedagogical value that could facilitate EAP learning is an urgent issue. The aim of the article is to investigate biology students’ evaluation of 6 internet resources (FutureLearn, Khan Academy, tutorial channels on Youtube (namely, CrashCourse and RicochetScience), Quizlet, Kahoot, Crossword Labs) that were used during the academic year 2020-2021 as supplementary tools for achieving learning objectives in the framework of disciplinary course ‘English for Biologists (freshmen).’ In order to achieve the purpose of the research quantitative and qualitative surveys were conducted among first-year biology students. Collected data revealed their preferences regarding 3 sections in the evaluation of internet resources: design (user-friendly browsing, absence of technical errors), information reliability and accuracy, promotion of learners’ interaction and engagement. Also, the data showed students’ self-assessment of linguistic skills they improved by utilizing these resources. The study of students’ perceptions of internet resources helps to define useful internet tools to make distant learning of Academic English for Biology more meaningful and effective.

Objective - This project sought to identify students’ strengths and weaknesses in locating, retrieving, and citing information in order to deliver information skills workshops more effectively. Methods - Bibliographies submitted from first-year engineering and second- and fourth-year chemical engineering students’ project reports were analysed for the number of items cited, the variety of items cited, and the correct use of citation style. The topics of the project reports were also reviewed to see the relationships between the topics and the items cited. Results - The results show that upper level students cited more items in total than did lower level students in their bibliographies. Second- and fourth-year engineering students cited more books and journal articles than first-year students cited. Web sites were used extensively by all three groups of students, and for some first-year students these were the most frequently used sources. Students from all three groups had difficulties with citation style. Conclusion - There was a clear difference in citation frequency between upper and lower level engineering students. Different strategies of information skills instruction are needed for different levels of students. Librarians and department faculty members need to include good quality Internet resources in their teaching and to change the emphasis from finding information to finding, interpreting, and citing accurately.

This study aims to assess the implementation of the openness of banking data access policies to improving tax compliance in Indonesia. It cause by the implementation of tax collection using a self-assessment system, thus requiring taxpayer data and information through financial institutions, include banking. Researchers used qualitative descriptive methods. The results of this study are, first, there is support for the implementation of the policy on openness to access to banking data in increasing tax compliance in Indonesia in the form of the issuance of Law Number 9 of 2017 concerning Access to Financial Information. Second, the implementation of banking data disclosure policies to increase tax compliance in Indonesia, including the willingness of target groups to comply with policy outputs, in this case the reporting of customer data by banks to the DGT. Third, the policy of open banking data access does not impede or reduce the number of bank accounts and deposits. Fourth, there are technical obstacles both by the DGT and the banking sector, especially in the first year. Furthermore, there are several inhibiting factors in the implementation of this policy, namely IT factors, and resistance from some circles at the beginning of the emergence of regulations, limited financial resources to process data quickly, so it must be done gradually, in addition to lack of quantity and quality of human resources

The article is devoted to the problem of interaction between a teacher and a student of musical education in the process of distance learning. The main tasks facing each teacher during the quarantine period are outlined, and the preference is given to the ability to master the techniques of conducting online music lessons using various Internet resources or platforms for maintaining feedback. The author gives examples of online piano lessons, which took place individually with each student in a convenient mode for them. Attention is drawn to the problems that arose during the implementation of team tasks. Particular attention is paid to the research work of applicants, which ensured their continuous participation in scientific activities throughout the distance learning. The result was the performance of a first-year student at an online conference of the piano department with a report on the peculiarities of the reproduction of the artistic image in a musical work, which ended with the performance of an instrumental lyric piece. The research work provides an opportunity to show analytical abilities, observation, concentration, flexibility of thinking, which helps student musicians to acquire skills of independent work for future professional activity, promotes the development and formation of their personal qualities. The proposed study focuses on the peculiarities of interaction between the subjects of distance education who took an active part in prestigious international competitions and festivals in the category of instrumental art, which were held online. As the Bologna Process moves forward, changes in European systems of higher education are expected. The introduction of the ECTS focussing on the students’ achievements described in terms of the learning outcomes and competences acquired is one of the innovations. This process, encouraged by Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, signifies a change in teaching focus, from an input model to an output one, which promotes self-assessment in a flexible curriculum, in this case adapted to student’s language profile. To illustrate this new approach in language learning, a pilot experience with Technical English mining engineering students is discussed, with special attention to learner reflection and self-assessment practices. Students’ progress in self-assessment, based on the introduction of learning outcomes in specific language courses, is analysed to conclude that personal engagement and clear purpose -specified in terms of learning outcomes- seem to have become relevant components to student's self-assessment practice.

The study attempts to know the significant correlation between students’ Activities in STAD Model and their interest in learning English. This study was a correlational study designed to determine whether and how a set of variables had related to each other. The participants were 50 students in the first year of high school. The instruments used in this study were observation sheet and questionnaire. Observation sheet is used to find out the category of students’ activities in STAD model and give a questionnaire consisting of seven items to the students. SPSS was used to analyze the data. The score of product-moment by using SPSS, Rxy is (0,410): it showed there was a significant correlation between students’ activities in STAD model and their interest in learning English. Referring to the product-moment table, it shows that the correlation is “enough” because 0,401 placed between 0,400 – 0,599. In addition, the null hypothesis was rejected because r table is lower than r observation whether at 5% (0,279) or at 1 % (0,361) level of significance, meaning that there was a significant correlation between students’ activities in STAD model and their interest in learning English. So, it can be concluded that activities in STAD model can influence students’ interest because, in STAD model, students can learn the English learning material better.

This chapter presents some research findings in the area of self assessment, obtained from the European Leonardo Project: Learning English forTechnical Purposes (LENTEC), carried out 2001–2003. In this project,upper-secondary vocational students solved problem-based learning casesin a virtual environment. The project aimed at stimulating upper-secondaryvocational school students from six different European countries to improvetheir English-language skills. It also aimed at helping foreign-languageteachers to develop their skills in online tutoring. A validation study wasundertaken and the results underscored that students need time andpractice to assess their own results. According to students and teachers, amajority of the students became more aware of their own language-learning development. The teachers in the project developed a new teacherrole where some of the responsibility for assessment moved from them to thestudents themselves. This not only motivated the students but also gave themadded time for actual language learning.

This study investigates English language learner (ELL) perceptions of using a prototype virtual reality learning environment (VRLE) designed for teaching and learning writing structure. A mixed-methods approach was used, incorporating pre- and post-participation questionnaires, as well as semi-structured interviews. Participants consisted of 10 ELLs enrolled in first year English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses at a university in Mainland, China. Results indicate that while the majority of students enjoyed using the VRLE, they maintained varying attitudes regarding the usefulness of the VRLE. Additionally, results from a correlation analysis suggest that learners' attitudes towards the material or content being learned (EAP writing) significantly correlates with learners' attitudes towards using the VRLE for learning writing structure.
