<p>Mastering reading comprehension is a must for language learners. Without mastering reading comprehension students aren’t able to grasp the message on their written form of learning material. Yet, reading comprehension oftenly considered to be difficult by students. This may caused by teacher’s method of teaching that doesn’t effective. This article compare between the use of Cooperative Learning method model Teams-Games-Tournaments (TGT) and Direct Instructional Method (DI) to teach studentsz reading comprehension. Here describe there is significant difference in reading comprehension achievement between the students taught using TGT and those taught using DI of the eighth grade students of one state junior high school in Grogol, and whether TGT is more effective than DI to teach reading comprehension. The method used in this study is experimental method (comparative study). The population of the research is all the eighth grade students. The sample was taken by using cluster random sampling. Two groups of student were taken, VIII-B as experimental group and VIII-C as control group. The instrument to collect data is test. The data were analyzed using t-test formula. The computation showed that t-observation (to) is 3.32 consulting t-table (78, 0.05) = 1.96, therefore the to is higher than tt. It is concluded that there’s significant difference between experimental and control group. Besides, the mean of the group of students taught using TGT is 62.62, while that of those taught using DI is 59.46, meaning that TGT gives better achievement than DI. Thus, TGT is more effective than DI to teach reading comprehension.</p>

This study aimed to examine the impact of Flipped Learning Strategy on developing listening skills of 7th grade female students in the United Arab Emirates. The study sample consisted of (44) female students selected by using the convenience sampling method from the Emirates Private School during the academic year of 2019 -2020. Those female students were distributed into two groups: An experimental group (22 students) and control group (22 students). The experimental group was taught the listening skills by using the Flipped Learning Strategy, and the control group was taught by the traditional method. To achieve the purpose of the study and answer its questions, a listening skills test was developed and its validity and reliability were also checked. At the end of the experiment which lasted for six weeks, the post-test of listening skills was carried out. The appropriate statistical methods were used to analyze the collected data. The results of the study showed that there were statistically significant differences between the two groups in the total score of the listening post-test and its three levels (audible discrimination, audible interpretation, audible criticism in favor of the experimental group. This indicates that the flipped learning strategy had a positive impact on developing the listening skills of sample students. Given such results, a number of recommendations were provided.

This study examined the effect of Jigsaw technique as a part of cooperative learning on Iranian EFL learners’ reading comprehension. To this end, 40 intermediate participants were selected out of 73 EFL learners based on the results of Oxford Quick Placement Test (OQPT). The participants were divided into two groups; control and experimental. Then, the participants of both groups were pretested on reading comprehension. After pre-testing, the cooperative learning activities (Jigsaw technique) were practiced with the participants of the experimental group during 5 sessions. The experimental participants were assigned to five-member teams to work on reading texts. Each team member read an assigned section and then members from different teams who had studied the same sections met in ‘expert groups’ to discuss their sections. Then, students returned to their own teams and taught their team-mates about their section. On the other hand, the control group received traditional teacher-fronted instruction throughout the classroom time. After the treatment sessions, a teacher-made reading comprehension post-test was given to the participants of both groups to measure their reading comprehension ability after the treatment. The results of paired samples t-test and independent samples t-test revealed that the experimental group outperformed the control group on the post-test. The findings also showed that there was a significant difference between the post-tests of both groups in favor of the experimental group.

The research conducted was quasi-experimental in nature. It was undertaken in order to determine the effects of cooperative learning strategy in enhancing the vocabulary and reading comprehension skills among the Grade Six pupils of MSU-ILS, A.Y. 2011-2012. Specifically, it sought to find out  the profile of the respondents in terms of age, gender, parents’ occupation, and parents’ monthly income; the significant difference between the pretest and the posttest mean scores of the control   group in vocabulary and reading comprehension skills; the significant difference between the pretest and the posttest mean scores of the experimental group in vocabulary and reading comprehension skills; and the significant difference between the mean gain scores of the respondents of both groups in vocabulary and reading comprehension skills. This research involved seventy-five (75) Grade Six pupils of Mindanao State University-Integrated Laboratory School (MSU-ILS). One group consisting of 37 pupils was identified as the experimental group.  This study was analyzed by the SPSS (Statistical Program for Social Sciences) The data were treated using one-way ANOVA (Analysis of Variance).  The study revealed the following findings: 1) majority of the respondents were aged 13 years old; 2) majority of the respondents are females and few of them are males for both the experimental and the control groups. 3) majority of the parents of the respondents were employees or faculty members; and 4) most of the parents of the respondents were receiving an average level of income (10001-20000). Moreover, the study has a significant difference between the pretest and the posttest mean scores of the experimental group in vocabulary and reading comprehension skills. Statistically, there is also a significant difference between the pretest and posttest mean scores of the control group in vocabulary and reading comprehension skills. Finally, the two groups have the same variance. It means that on the average, the mean gain scores of pupils in both the control and experimental groups are the same. Based on the findings, cooperative learning strategy is effective in teaching vocabulary and reading comprehension skills to the learners, traditional learning strategy is also effective in teaching vocabulary and reading comprehension skills to the learners or effective learning, whichever teaching strategy is used by the teacher the learners need to be participative in high order thinking exercises, such as analysis, synthesis, and evaluation and the cooperative learning strategy and traditional strategy are both effective. There is no single “best” learning strategy to teach vocabulary and comprehension skills to learners and whatever learning strategy is used in the classroom, there is a need to take into account the learners’ current knowledge so that they can work within their zone of proximal development and thus progress will be implied in this study.
