Characteristic towns are the continuation and development of the construction of "small towns", and have become an important node of the development of "urban-rural integration". Characteristic tourism town is one of the important models of rural tourism development. It plays an important role in promoting the solution of "Three rural issues", increasing farmers' opportunities for entrepreneurship and employment, improving farmers' income, building a beautiful countryside and finally realizing rural revitalization. The restrictive factors and main problems of the development of characteristic tourism towns in Northern Anhui are: single business model and shallow cultural excavation level. The development foundation is relatively weak, and the industrial products are not closely related. The essence of cultural characteristics is not fully reflected, which needs to be deeply excavated. Through the analysis, the following development ideas and countermeasures of characteristic tourism towns in Northern Anhui are formed: first, give full play to the resources with the most comparative advantages and take the road of characteristic development. Second, make leisure tourism closely related to the characteristic industries and products of small towns. Third, deeply excavate and fully absorb traditional culture, and create a new idea of developing characteristic tourism towns in Northern Anhui with the combination of culture and tourism. Fourth, actively explore the new mode of "Internet plus tourism".

The relevance of the problem considered in this article is due to the positive impact of rural tourism on the preservation and development of rural areas, rational use of their resource potential, improving the welfare of the local population, reducing social tension, stimulating the development of farms and personal subsidiary plots, preserving folk crafts, culture and identity. Based on the analysis of the experience of rural tourism development in European countries, it is concluded that there is a high potential of this direction in the Republic of Bashkortostan. Among the municipal districts of the republic, the authors distinguish the Karaidel district, which has unique ecological and economic characteristics. The authors have identified the most promising direction for the development of rural tourism in the area under consideration – the development of a complex of guest houses providing accommodation and catering services for guests, as well as excursions, horseback riding, etc. The attractiveness for tourists in this type of accommodation lies in the possibility of living in peasant estates, as well as acquaintance with the traditions and rituals of the indigenous population of the republic. The article proposes recommendations for improving the efficiency of using the natural resource potential of rural tourism development in the Karaidel region of the Republic of Bashkortostan. The article presents the results of a SWOT analysis of the prospects for the development of rural tourism, offers directions for the development of rural tourism in the context of market segments and measures to promote the territory. The proposed measures for the development of rural tourism in the area: creation of an ecosystem (recreation, impressions, functional food); unification into a cluster (farms, accommodation facilities, recreation centers, local residents, personal subsidiary plots); development of a unique selling proposition; using the method of geoanalytics to analyze the target audience; certification of rural tourism objects, development of a culinary atlas of national dishes. Trends towards individualization of travel, the growing influence of ecology and ethics on the consciousness of the population are favorable factors for the development of rural tourism in the Karaidel region and the Republic of Bashkortostan as a whole.

Abstract Tuvalu and Nauru are isolated developing island nations located in the South Pacific Ocean. In contrast to the established larger Pacific destinations such as Fiji and Tahiti, the tourism industries on both Tuvalu and Nauru are in their infancy. Tourism development in these remote island nations faces a myriad of challenges which include a lack of infrastructure, environmental susceptibility, economic vulnerability, difficulties with access and considerable distances from major tourist markets. This paper reviews tourism on Tuvalu and Nauru and evaluates their current situation regarding potential tourism development through workshops with relevant stakeholders, surveys and subsequent SWOT analysis. The results of the paper outlined a large number of challenges faced by Tuvalu and Nauru due to their geographic location but also highlighted that both Islands possess fascinating and unique features that have the potential to attract niche tourism markets. A key finding of this paper is that the tourism stimulus or potential attraction can also be the chief threat to the islands’ economic survival hence the two edges of the sword. Further research is required to assess the effect of the withdrawal of the Refugee Processing Centre on Nauru’s economy and to evaluate the impact of climate change on Tuvalu’s society and potential adaption strategies.

Tourism shows a significant contribution to foreign exchange and regional income in Indonesia. Defined as a priority and leading sector in the RPJMD, tourism development in the Regencies and the Province of Gorontalo must measure the results, benefits and impacts for all stakeholders. Contribution to regional income (PAD) and the composition of internal and external factors in each of the leading destinations is needed for the purpose of determining the strategy and policy of sustainable tourism development. The study concluded that tourism sector was relatively small in its contribution to each PAD total by Regencies in Gorontalo Province. The low of PADsp is relevant to the low occupancy rate (TPK) of the hotel and the length of stay (LoS). The lack of retribution income from recreation and sports spot is relevant to the lack of activities to support the attractiveness such as art and cultural attractions and local products that can be souvenirs for tourists. Infrastructure facilities at leading tourism objects are relatively incomplete or do not meet tourism standards. The low of PAD, TPK LoS can also explain that the increase in tourists to Gorontalo is only a transit to the other tourist objects outside of Gorontalo Province. Keywords: Tourism, Leading Sector, Gorontalo, Income, Swot Analysis
