In order to accommodate the trend of high-speed railway signaling integrating with communication techniques, Basic Theory and Application of GSM-R is a crucial curriculum for students majoring in Traffic Information Engineering and Control and Transportation Engineering. It helps students to master the latest theory and application of train-ground communication techniques. However, with the application of the next generation railway mobile communication technique, several advanced communication techniques are presented in the form of English materials. It is of great significance to have a bilingual teaching mode for this course. This would contribute to cultivating research-oriented and professional talents with international competitiveness. Through the blended teaching reform of bilingual education, the proportion of topic selection of interdisciplinary research papers by postgraduates has increased from 6% to 15%. In this article, the characteristics and the current problems of bilingual teaching are discussed from theory to practice in three aspects: the production of bilingual courseware, the supplement of English materials, and the guidance of research topics. Additionally, corresponding teaching reform schemes are proposed in this article.

Abstract The characteristics of all optical networks such as high speed, data carrying capacity and transparency make them suitable for emerged networks domain. This paper presents an overview of research challenges in the field of all optical communication networks. Various subdomains of an all optical system, for example device-level designs, communication technique-level designs and network-level designs have been extensively investigated and presented in this paper. Further, the related research issues under each category of these domains have been discussed. These issues constitute the basic criterion for further development in all optical domain.

One of the key elements in the operational performance of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) is the improvement of quality planning, human resources (HRs), and financial management that can serve as a monitoring tool as well as a performance driver. Herein, the research examined the extent to which employee engagement, comprised of cognitive engagement, emotional engagement, and behavioral engagement could drive employee performance in Indonesian SOEs. The research was conducted with a survey method to 429 middle managers in 141 SOEs in Indonesia. Data were collected through an indirect communication technique using a questionnaire and direct communication techniques using limited interviews and documentary studies. Data were analyzed descriptively through weighted averages and inferentially through Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). The results of the study show that: Employee engagement in Indonesian SOEs was in the “good” category, but not optimal. The performance of the SOEs managers was measured based on the total performance scorecard (TPS). Employee engagement (cognitive, emotional, and behavioral) partially and simultaneously contributed positively and significantly to the improvement of the performance of Indonesian SOEs based on the total performance scorecard

According to the multiple winds model a planetary nebula forms as the result of the interaction of a fast wind from the central star with the superwind that had previously been emitted by the progenitor star. The basic theory which deals with the spherically symmetrical case is briefly summarised. Various improvements are then considered in turn. A better history is clearly needed of the way that the central star becomes hotter, it is unrealistic to make the assumption that the superwind is spherically symmetrical, and finally there are likely to be important instabilities at some of the interfaces in the PN, notably that between the shocked superwind and the HII layer. These changes in the theoretical description produce a better understanding of the conditions in the outer parts of a PN and of the nature of its general shape, and they should lead to an explanation for the occurrence of high speed motions, and of highly ionized species and high excitation spectral lines.

This study investigated the effects of printed factual information and three augmentative communication techniques on attitudes of nondisabled individuals toward nonspeaking persons with physical disabilities. Employing a 3 (augmentative communication techniques) x 2 (presence/absence of information) factorial design, subjects viewed a videotape depicting a nonspeaking adult having a conversation with a normal-speaking individual. Subjects in Condition 1 viewed a tape depicting the nonspeaking individual using unaided communication techniques; Condition 2 subjects viewed the individual using an alphabet board; subjects in Condition 3 viewed the individual using a computer-based voice output communication aid (VOCA). A scale assessing attitudes toward nonspeaking persons, the Attitudes Toward Nonspeaking Persons Scale (ATNP), was developed and validated for purposes of this study and was employed as the dependent measure. Results revealed that subjects expressed more favorable attitudes when provided with the additional information concerning the nonspeaking individual. Attitude favorability also increased with the sophistication of the augmentative communication technique.

With the rapid development of economic globalization and computer technology, bilingual teaching has become the development trend of college teaching. This paper aims to explore the reform road of the bilingual teaching complied with Higher Education Objectives. Take the course of introduction to computer for example, combined with the actual situation of our college bilingual teaching reform the solution to the problem and reform measures were proposed from the teaching content, teaching models, teaching means and so on. We believed it can give some reference value for the reform of bilingual teaching.

As one of the compulsory courses of oil and gas storage and transportation engineering, “Strength Design and Safety Management of Storage and Transportation Facilities” is a comprehensive course of both practicality and theory. In order to solve the unbalanced distribution of theoretical and applied content in the teaching process, the teaching team reformed the teaching mode of the structure design of large storage tanks in the course of “Strength Design and Safety Management of Storage and Transportation Facilities” and introduced case-based teaching. On the basis of the original course, practical engineering case analysis such as wind-induced buckling of large storage tank and uneven settlement of tank foundation was added, which increased the proportion of application content. It is a new type of discussion teaching integrating case collection, group discussion and after-class experience exchange. According to the recent three years of teaching practice, students’ interest in this course has increased greatly and teaching quality has improved significantly, which fully verified the feasibility of engineering case-based teaching in teaching reform. The teaching team has gradually improved the teaching process according to the relevant experience and lessons in classroom practice and made a successful attempt in the teaching reform of storage and transportation structure safety courses, which is of positive significance for training application-oriented composite talents with the ability to solve practical problems in the new era.

The rapid development of information technology has constantly promoted innovation and pedagogical reform of educational practice models. Blended teaching provides an ever-innovative new way of thinking for the current classroom teaching reform. Based on the definition of the concept of blended teaching and the study of the theories related to blended teaching, this paper describes the basic design of German classroom teaching in a blended curriculum.
