The Effect of Yacon Leaf Powder (Smallanthus Sonchifolius) on White Rats (Rattus norvegicus) Blood Glucose Levels with High Sugar Diet

Maintaining a lifestyle can reduce the incidence of DM (diabetes mellitus). DM occurs due to insulin disorders so that blood glucose levels increase, which can lead to various complications. The management of blood glucose levels by activating the insulin function can be done by using natural ingredients such as the Yakon (Smallanthus sonchifolius) plant. Yakon leaves contain phenol which can reduce blood glucose. The design of this study was experimental with a pre-posttest approach with control-group design, using male and healthy white rats (Rattus norvegicus). Rats were divided into 3 groups, treatment dose 1, treatment dose 2 and control. The rats were given a high carbohydrate diet during 9 weeks to make the rats hyperglycemic. In the treatment group, dose 1 was 150 mg/kg BW, dose 2 was 300 mg kg BW, and was given for 3 days. The results showed that the rats in the treatment group dose 1 had decreased in the average blood sugar level of 114.10 mg / dl (p 0.002) and dose 2 was 105.27 mg / dl (p 0.005). This showed that there was an effect of treatments on blood sugar levels. The comparison results showed that there was a significant difference between the dose 1, the dose 2 group and the control (Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.001 (α) = 0.05). There was no significant difference in the treatment group dose 1 and treatment dose 2 (Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.693, (α) = 0.05). Yakon leaves can be used alternative to lower to control blood glucose levels in rats receiving a high-carbohydrate diet

Background: Diabetes mellitus is still a problem in Indonesia, related to the number of organs involved. This disease has relatively high morbidity and mortality rates. Adjuvant therapy is needed considering the long-term therapy that must be consumed by patients. Objective: To explain the effect of hyperbaric oxygen in reducing blood glucose levels, and repairing histopathological damage to the pancreas and liver. Method : this study was an experimental laboratory study using whistar strain rats (Rattus Norvegicus) which were given a normal diet then induced alloxan to create a hyperglycemia condition. After that, 12 rats from the treatment group were given 3 x 30’ hyperbaric oxygen exposure for 6 days. Blood glucose levels, histopathological changes in the pancreas and liver was measured between the treatment group and the control group were not given hyperbaric oxygen exposure. Results: There was a significant difference (α< 0,05) in decreasing blood glucose and repairing histopathological damage in pancreatic and liver tissue between treated group and control group. Conclusion: hyperbaric oxygen treatment as much as 3 x 30'for days at 2.4 ATA O2 100% reduce blood glucose levels and repair histopathological damage to pancreatic tissue and liver of alloxan- induced white rats.

ABSTRACT   This study aims to determine the effect of a multilevel dose of ethanol extract of seaweed (Eucheuma cottonii J. Agardh) on the decreasing blood glucose levels and kidney tissue regeneration of hypercholesterolemia-diabetic male white rats. 24 rats were divided into 6 groups, namely groups 1-3 (normal control, negative control, and positive control/Glibenclamide, respectively) and groups 3-6 (seaweed extract doses of 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg BW per oral, respectively). Rats were induced by high fat diet and Streptozotocin. Histopathological picture of the kidney was observed by HE staining using 400 magnifications. Data scoring of the level of kidney damage were analyzed by One Way ANOVA at a 95% confidence level and a Least Significant Difference (LSD) test was conducted. Seaweed ethanol extract at a dose of 100 mg/kg BW was effective in reducing blood glucose levels with an average value of 122.25 mg/dL and effective in regenerating the kidney tissue of male white rats with an average value of damage of 1.9. Therefore, seaweed extract has potency to be developed and further investigated as an antidiabetic agent.

<p class="Default"><em>The </em><em>aim</em><em> of this study was to analyze </em><em>the effects</em><em> of the sweet potato to the levels of blood glucose on diabetic mellitus mice. This study had been carried out with a sample of 25 mice which were divided into 5 groups. The levels of blood glucose on mice before treating with rice flour and sweet potato flour on the negative control group (KN) was 76.2 ± SD, on the positive control group (KP) was 159.4 ± SD, on the 1<sup>st</sup> treatment group (P1) was 159.4 ± SD, on the 2<sup>nd</sup> treatment group (P2) was 166.6 ± SD and 3<sup>rd</sup> treatment group (P3) was 161.2 ± SD. The average blood glucose levels on the 2<sup>nd</sup> treatment group (P2) before treatment was 166.6 ± SD and after treatment was 109.0 ± SD. The result showed a significant difference based on the statistical data (p &lt; 0.05) between 4 test groups of mice. There was a big difference on the average blood glucose levels before and after treatment o P2 and P3. It is concluded that the treatment of sweet potatoes gives a positive effects on the blood glucose levels of diabetic mellitus mice. </em></p>

Background: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases with characteristic hyperglycemia that occurs due to abnormalities in insulin secretion and insulin action. Diet plus high fiber can help control glucose levels. Almond contains fiber, vitamin E, and magnesium that contributes to the fasting blood glucose levels. This study aimed to analyze the effect of almond milk to the fasting blood glucose diabetic rats.Method: This study used an experimental design with pre-post test control group design. The sample were Rattus norvegicus Wistar which were divided into 4 groups: K (-), K (+), A1 and A2. Almond milk was given in the group treatmeant for 14 days with a dose of 4.32 ml and 8.64 ml. Fasting blood glucose measurement taken before and after treatment used Oxidase Glucose - Peroxidase Aminoantypirin (GOD PAP). Analysis of data used paired t-test, ANOVA and Post Hoc.Results: The fasting blood glucose levels decreased significantly (p = 0.01) in the treatment group which were intervened with almond milk. A decrease in fasting blood glucose levels in a dose treatment group 1 for 116.96 ± 4.45 (p = 0:01), whereas in the group treated at a dose of 2 for 155.53 ± 3.15 (p = 0.01). There were a significant difference in decreased of the fasting blood glucose levels between the two treatment groups (p = 0.01).Conclusion:  Giving a dose almond milk 4.32 ml and 8.64 ml for 14 days can lower the fasting blood glucose levels significantly.

AbstrakSusu adalah hasil ternak yang dikenal sebagai bahan makanan yang bernilai gizi tinggi. Sebagian masyarakat menganggap susu sapi segar dan susu kambing segar berpengaruh terhadap kadar glukosa darah. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menentukan perbedaan glukosa darah tikus putih antara yang mendapat asupan susu sapi segar dan susu kambing segar. Jenis penelitian ini adalah eksperimental dengan rancangan pre and post test only group design. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 10 ekor tikus putih jantan (Rattus novergicus) yang dibagi menjadi 2 kelompok yaitu kelompok susu sapi segar dan susu kambing segar. Kedua kelompok diberikan diet susu dengan dosis setara 1 gelas susu (3,6 ml) selama 4 minggu (28 hari). Pengukuran kadar glukosa darah menggunakan blood glucose test meter. Hasil penelitian didapatkan rerata kadar glukosa kelompok susu sapi segar sebelum (151,20 + 15,28 mg/dl), setelah (97,40 + 7.16 mg/dl), sedangkan rerata kadar glukosa kelompok susu kambing segar sebelum (133,80 + 5.80 mg/dl), setelah (97,80 + 7.88 mg/dl). Uji statistik dengan t-test menyimpulkan terdapat perbedaan bermakna rerata kadar glukosa darah tikus putih sebelum dengan setelah mendapat asupan susu sapi segar dan susu kambing segar, tetapi  tidak terdapat perbedaan bermakna rerata kadar glukosa darah tikus putih antara kelompok susu sapi segar dengan susu kambing segar setelah perlakuan.Kata kunci: susu sapi segar, susu kambing segar, glukosa darah AbstractMilk is the result of cattle known as a food of high nutritional value. Some people think fresh cow's milk and  fresh goat's milk effect on blood glucose levels. The objective of this study was to determine the differences in blood glucose levels of white rat (Rattus norvegicus) between that received fresh cow's milk and fresh goat's milk. This research was an experimental design with pre and posttest only group design. The sample was 10 male white rats (Rattus novergicus) divided into 2 groups:fresh cow's milk and goat's milk fresh. Both groups were given a diet of milk to equal 1 cup milk dose (3.6 ml) for 4 weeks (28 days). Measurement of blood glucose levels using a blood glucose test meter. The results showed a mean glucose level before fresh cow's milk group (151.20 + 15.28 mg / dl), after (97.40 + 7:16 mg / dl), whereas the mean glucose levels before the fresh goat milk group (133.80 + 5.80 mg / dl), after (97.80 + 7.88 mg / dl). The t-test results concluded that there is a significant difference in mean blood glucose levels before the white rat after receiving fresh cow's milk intake and fresh goat's milk, but there was no significant difference in mean blood glucose levels between groups of white rats fresh cow's milk with fresh goat's milk after treatment.Keywords:  fresh cow milk, fresh goat's milk, blood glucose

Unrestrained mice were centrifuged for varying periods ranging from 0.5 to 10 hr at 2.5, 5, and 10 x gravity. Liver glycogen and blood glucose levels increased significantly depending on the g load and exposure time. Adrenalectomy completely abolished the glycogen deposition response. The glycogen response was a critical function of the age of mice; unweaned mice did not respond. Blood corticosterone increased significantly prior to the deposition of glycogen. Centrifuged fed mice deposited three times the amount of glycogen of fasted mice. There was no significant difference in the amount of glycogen deposited in centrifuged mice previously starved for 1, 2, or 3 days. It is concluded that the increased glycogen deposited following centrifugation is effected by an increased elaboration of adrenal corticosterone.

ABSTRACT This study aims to determine the antidiabetic activity of papaya flower ethanol extract (Carica papaya L.) against male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) induced by alloxan. This research is experimental. Fifteen rats were divided into 5 treatment groups, each group consisted of 3 rats. The first group was the negative control group given Aquades, the second group was positive control given Glibenklamid, the three groups were 200 mg dose variation groups, four groups were 400 mg dose variations, and the five groups were 800 mg dose variations. Previously, rats were examined fasting blood glucose levels, then mice were induced by an alloxan dose of 120 mg / kgBW intraperitoneally. On the 3rd day blood glucose levels were examined and then treated according to groups for 7 days, measurement of blood glucose levels after the treatment was carried out once every 3 days namely day 3, day 7, and day 10. Data obtained were then analyzed statistically using SPSS , including normality test (Shapiro-Wilk), homogeneity test (Levene), ANOVA test (One way). The results of this study indicate that Papaya Flower (Carica papaya L.) Terhadap Tikus Putih Jantan (Rattus norvegicus) Yang Diinduksi Aloksan. Penelitian ini bersifat eksperimental. Sebanyak 15 ekor tikus dibagi ke dalam 5 kelompok perlakuan masing- masing kelompok terdiri dari 3 ekor tikus. Kelompok pertama kelompok Kontrol negatif yang diberikan Aquades, Kelompok kedua Kontrol Positif yang diberikan Glibenklamid, kelompok tiga kelompok variasi dosis 200 mg, kelompok empat kelompok variasi dosis 400 mg, dan kelompok lima kelompok variasi dosis 800 mg. Sebelumnya tikus dilakukan pemeriksaan kadar glukosa darah puasa, selanjutnya tikus diinduksi Aloksan dosis 120 mg/kgBB secara intraperitoneal. Pada hari ke 3 diperiksa kadar Glukosa darah kemudian diberikan perlakuan sesuai kelompok selama 7 hari, pengukuran kadar glukosa darah setelah perlakuan dilakukan 3 hari sekali yaitu hari ke 3, hari ke 7, dan hari ke 10. Data yang diperoleh kemudian dianalisis secara statistik menggunakan SPSS, meliputi uji normalitas (Shapiro-Wilk), uji homogenitas (Levene), uji ANOVA (One way). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Ekstrak Etanol Bunga Pepaya (Carica papaya L.)  dapat memberikan efek penurunan kadar glukosa darah yang paling baik yaitu pada dosis 800 mg. Kata kunci : Antidiabetik, Ekstrak Bunga pepaya (Carica papaya L.), Diabettes Mellitus, TikusPutih Jantan (Rattus norvegicus), Aloksan.

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease that always increasing in prevalence. Excessive glucose intake and oxidative stress that can lead to damage to the pancreatic cell or insulin resistance, are such factors that influence the occurrence of diabetes mellitus. Graptophyllum pictum (L.) Griff leaf contains active metabolites such as flavonoid which able to decrease free radical levels. This study aimed to prove the effectiveness of Graptophyllum pictum (L.) Griff leaves extract on blood glucose levels in alloxan-induced Wistar rats. In this study, twenty-five male Wistar rats were divided into five groups. On day 0, the negative control and each treatment group injected with 125 mg/kg dose of alloxan and would be checked on 4th day. On the 4th day after the rats had diabetes, normal group (K-1) was given only standard feed, Negative control (K-2) was given only alloxan intraperitoneally on day 0, first treatment group (K-3) was given 50 mg/kg dose of Graptophyllum pictum (L.) Griff, second treatment group (K-4) was given 100 mg/kg dose of the leaf extract, and the third treatment group (K-5) was given the leaf 200 mg/kg dose of the leaf extract. On the 10th day, fasting blood glucose was taken from the rats. Post-test only group design was used to be the experimental design. There were significant differences in the treatment groups (K-3, K-4, and K-5) compared to the negative control group (K-2) after treatment. The mean of blood glucose levels decreased with the increased doses of Graptophyllum pictum (L.) Griff leaf extract treatment. The treatment groups (K-3, K-4, and K-5) were not significant compared to the normal group (K-1).

Aim and objective: Clerodendrum thomsoniae leaves are used in Cameroon to manage diabetes and its related disorders. The study aimed at investigating the antidiabetic effect of the aqueous extract on diet and dexamethasone induced diabetic rats. Methods: Young mature leaves of C thomsoniae were dried, finely powdered and submitted to aqueous extraction. The dehydrated extract was tested in rats at 3 doses 312.5, 625 and 1250 mg/kg based on the local use of the plant. The effect of the extract on the fasting blood glucose in normoglycemic rats and MACAPOS 1 type diet induced diabetic rats, using respectively glibenclamide and metformin as positive control groups, were investigated. Results: AECT significantly reduced blood glucose levels in normoglycemic rats (p<0.05) two hours after administration, from 83±2 mg/dL to 57.39±1.7 mg/dL with the dose of 1250 mg/kg. given the highest reduction rate of 30.86%. In normoglycemic rats 30 minutes after oral glucose overload, the maximum reduction rate was observed with glibenclamide 5 mg / kg and calculated at 49.90% followed by 36.39%, for the extract at 1250 mg / kg. After 30 days of repeated oral administration, AECT produced a reduction on blood glucose levels (p<0.05) in type 2 diabetic rats. This reduction in blood sugar was much more expressed with the dose of 1250mg/kg (73.52±0.71 mg/dL) followed by metformin 38mg/kg (70.21±0.89 mg/dL) as the normal control with no significant difference (P < 0.05).
