Purpose__ The research provides an insight in to the most popular debate around the globe about tax compliance. The research focusses on SMEs in premises of Bahawalpur division, Pakistan, by proposing a reliable solution for interstitial gaps existing between tax authorities and compliance behavior of taxpayers. It expands the Fisher model of compliance (1992) and deploys it as a base by adding new variables namely Power of authority, Tax audit and Electronic filing. The data has been statistically analyzed by using SPSS through running test of correlation and regression. Positive correlation and causation were established among variable leads to analysis of data through Ordinary Least Square (OLS), which ratify the role of attitude and perception as moderator in overall relationship. Results show that Power of authority directly influence compliance behavior while other two variables indirectly effects the relationship through moderator, thus nurturing the voluntary behavior of taxpayer. Design/Methodology/Approach___ A research framework has been developed for identifying the effect of different factors which may in boosting up compliance behavior of taxpayers. Quantitative approach was used and data has been collected through Questionnaire from almost 50 SMEs of Bahawalpur Division. Implications___ Policy makers may use the findings of the study to encourage voluntary compliance from the non-tax paying SME. Further study can be expanded by increasing sample size and by gathering detailed information for tax authorities. Originality/Value___ The proposed Model and findings may contribute in paving path for increasing voluntary compliance. Research also emphasize on other factors which should be focused for improvement and could play a  crucial role in compliance.

Indonesia has a large economic potential in the fishery sector, yet it is not followed by a corresponding tax revenue from this sector. This study was conducted to examine the effect of tax knowledge, probability of tax audit, perception of government spending, penalties, financial constraints and referent group on tax compliance of non-employee private taxpayers in the fishery sector. This study used quantitative method through surveys conducted on samples in the provinces of Bali and DKI Jakarta. Data obtained from the survey’s results were tested by multiple regression analysis of Ordinary Least Square (OLS). The results of the tests conducted show that simultaneously, all factors tested have significant effect on tax compliance. Individually, tax knowledge, probability of tax audit and perception of government spending have positive and significant effect on tax compliance. Other factors, namely penalties, financial constraints and referent group have no significant effect on tax compliance

Capital structure decision plays an imperative role in firm’s performance. Recognizing the importance, there has been many studies inspected the rapport of capital structure with performance of firms and findings of those studies are inconclusive. In addition, there is relative deficiency of empirical studies examining the link of capital structure with performance of banks in Bangladesh. This paper attempted to fill this gap. Using panel data of 22 banks for the period of 2005-2014, this study empirically examined the impacts of capital structure on the performance of Bangladeshi banks assessed by return on equity, return on assets and earnings per share. Results from pooled ordinary least square analysis show that there are inverse impacts of capital structure on bank’s performance. Empirical findings of this study is of greater significance for the developing countries like Bangladesh because it will call upon concentration of the bank management and policy makers to pursue such policies to reduce reliance on debt and to accomplish optimal level capital structure. This research also contributes to empirical literatures by reconfirming (or otherwise) findings of previous studies.

Taxpayer compliance has always been an interesting issue and is still debatable in previous research. The democratic involvement of taxpayers still creates a reluctance to pay taxes so that non-compliance efforts still occur. This research tries to test the aspect of legality, modernization of tax system, service quality of tax officer and intellectual taxpayer toward taxpayer compliance and tax evasion. This research is a primary research conducted through the distribution of questionnaires in the convinience of taxpayers registered in the East Java tax office. Respondents of this study as many as 252 individual taxpayers. Testing is done by using Partial Least Square (PLS). The results showed that the variables of legality and service quality of tax authorities have an effect on taxpayer compliance, and taxpayer compliance also affects tax evasion. whereas, the variable modernization of taxation system and intellectual taxpayer have no significant effect on taxpayer complianceKeywords: Legal Aspect; Intellectual; Tax Compliance; Tax evasion Abstrak.

This study x-ray’s the interest rates regime in Nigeria as it affects the performance of the Nigerian Capital Market. In order to achieve this objective, relevant data for a period of 33 years spanning from 1981 – 2013 were obtained from the Factbook of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, CBN Statistical Bulletin as well as the annual accounts of quoted firms for the relevant years. The data obtained were analysed with the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) technique. The result from our analysis reveal among others that changes in interest rate regimes have majorly influenced the level of the performance of the Nigerian Capital Market. Based on the above, we recommend that capital market regulators and other regulatory agencies should keep an eye on movements in interest rates and the Minimum Rediscount Rate (MRR) (now MPR) and watch their trend. We also recommend that efforts must be put in place to establish a policy review and reassessment mechanism that would help in assessing the impact of selected policy measures on the economy so that policy makers would know the effectiveness and efficiency of designed policies and be guided in the policy review and development process in the country.

Corporate governance is a critical component relevant to firm performance. In the tourism sector, corporate governance is an underexamined issue. The purpose of the current study is to bridge this gap by examining the influence of foreign institutional investors, institutional directors, and shares pledged by directors on tourism firms’ financial performance. Data are derived from listed tourism firms in Taiwan. Ordinary least square regressions and two-stage least square regressions are used to examine the hypotheses. Results show that the presence of foreign institutional investors and a low share pledge ratio of directors have significant effects on return on assets and Tobin’s Q. The presence of institutional directors has a positive effect on Tobin’s Q. Implications for owners, policy makers, and investors are discussed.

Abstract This study assessed the effectiveness of tax enforcement tools as panacea for improving tax compliance and overall tax income in the Ondo State, Nigeria. Survey research design was adopted using primary data sourced through administration of structured questionnaire on 150 selected respondents from among staff of Federal Inland Revenue Service and State Board of Internal Revenue Service within the state. The Taro Yamane formula and judgment sampling technique were used to arrive at the sampled respondents. Outcome of Ordinary Least Square regression analysis showed regression coefficient and p-value of tax-audit (0.278; p=0.03<0.05) and tax penalty (0.463; p=0.000<0.05) respectively, indicating a positive and significant relationship of the two explanatory variables with tax compliance at .05 level of significance. The Implication is that a marginal increase in tax audit and tax penalty will lead to increase in tax compliance in Ondo State. No meaningful association exists between tax amnesty and tax compliance based on the finding of this study perhaps tax amnesty is a new policy that was just launched to encourage voluntary tax compliance. As such, it is imperative that tax audit and imposition of tax penalties be encouraged and sustained. These are envisaged to further improve the degree of tax compliance, consequently enhancing government tax revenue generation to augment dwindling oil revenue in Nigeria. As regards relatively new and still under watch tax amnesty, it may turn out to be a veritable tool for voluntary compliance in future if properly nursed.

This study aims to explore the association of SOE monitoring and corporate governance variables and the tax compliance of Indonesian State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). The samples of this study are SOEs in 2009-2018 listed on the official website of the Ministry of SOEs that have all required data. The data is analyzed using ordinary least square to test the hypothesis with STATA statistical analysis software. The results show that SOEs that receive PSO (Public Service Obligation) and listed on the stock exchange are more tax compliant compared to others. However, the study found no evidence that the governance structure of SOEs affects tax compliance. The data shows that most SOEs still do not have governance structure that comply the regulations. The findings imply that external monitoring received by PSO recipients and listed SOEs improve SOEs tax compliance. Moreover, the findings also imply that SOEs’ corporate governance structure is only a formality and does not take its functions seriously.

This study examines the role of trust to moderate the relationship between deterrence factors and taxpayer compliance behavior. Their compalince on tax regulation is hypothesized to be determined by three factors i.e. tax audit, tax fine and trust in tax authorities. Economics-of-crime approach predicts that the higher probability of tax audit and tax fine will enhance tax compliance. According to slippery slope theory, the positive relation of tax compliance and its deterrence factors might be stronger if tax payer has a higher trust in legal and taxation system. The field experiment is designed by 2x2x2 between subjects. The participants comprise of 80 personal tax payers in Semarang City. Using ANOVA as statistical analysis, this reseach suggested that tax compliance is more likey to be effectively affected by trust in tax authorities rather than deterrence factor. However, according to univariate analysis, tax audit and tax fine are still important determinants of tax compliance.
