This paper describes the design and use of a simple method for comparative website evaluation that has been used for the purposes of teaching web design to University students. The method can be learnt within two hours by a novice user or typical customer. The method is not dependant upon the environment being used by the tester and can be adjusted according to the subjective preferences they may have. Results are presented of the use of the method in practice in comparing the sites of a number of airlines. These suggest that the method is both sufficiently rigorous to produce reliable results, and flexible enough for users to customise. It is an effective tool in teaching the principles of web design.

Privacy issues are a top priority in web design. However, websites’ evaluation methods do not consider legal and ethical issues. This article proposes a fuzzy logic–based methodology for evaluating websites’ compliance with legal and ethical principles. Using fuzzy Delphi and fuzzy numbers, the methodology develops the Fuzzy Legal and Ethical Compliance Index (FLECI) that addresses the inherited vagueness of the evaluation process and calculates websites’ conformity to legal and ethical guidelines. To illustrate the proposed methodology, this research collects data and then evaluates and classifies 100 websites with respect to their privacy policies using fuzzy equivalence. This article provides a foundation for the development of comprehensive website evaluation methods that include privacy and ethical issues in their evaluations. Future research can investigate the applicability of the proposed methodology and the fuzzy numbers calculated in this article in websites across industries and cultural activities.

Web is considered one of the greatest developments of twentieth century. It provides a diverse range of applications and therefore needs different usability designs. Web usability has become a vital aspect for the success of web applications. Web usability is about fulfilling the goals and expectations of users and making their stay on the website pleasant. Web usability design includes three aspects: User Research, Web Design and Web Evaluation [1]. Today, the web design is moving from technology to users i.e. it is more user-centered than ever before. Web design must directly face users with the specific needs, and must ensure that users are pleasant to successfully complete tasks with it. [1]. In this study, we have studied the factors which affect the web readability in this part of the world. We conducted the survey in order to check how different factors play their part for the people who speak languages which are written right to left

Abstract The following paper presents an usability analysis of services web sites to which elders accede. Due to the fact that there exist few studies realized with web sites in Spain (unlike the studies realized with English language web sites), with the purpose to present recommendations about it, a heuristic evaluation has been realized and after that, there have been confirmed the obtained results by realizing tests with users. For the achievement of that goal, there have been realize a summary of guidelines or directives and recommendations from different authors. The most significant results of the study have shown that some of the evaluated web sites for elders have had a minor level of fulfillment than the other services web sites that are not directed to any specific group. Keywords Web usability, accessibility, web design for elders, heuristic evaluation.

The evaluators of a website have a need for robust and easy-to-use usability inspection methods to help them to systematically identify the possible usability problems of the website being analysed. Three usability inspection methods – heuristic walkthrough (HW), cognitive walkthrough (CW), and activity walkthrough (AW) – are reviewed in this chapter. Reviewing that work, this chapter discusses the relative advantages and weaknesses of all of the techniques, and suggestions for web evaluation are offered, with a short website example. Based on these analyses, we suggest some changes to website evaluation to improve accuracy and reliability of the current walkthrough methods; however, this chapter is not a comparison between the walkthrough techniques in order to determine which technique is best at detecting usability problems of a website.

The article is devoted to the study of effective websites design principles, adherence to which is very important and necessary in the modern information space. The article analyzes scientific research on the above problem and its results. The author defines the concept of usability, and describes its main indicators. The article considers the most important features of the user’s perception of interfaces and formulates the rules of usability through the organization of screen space. It is emphasized that the basic rules of website design are based on knowledge of the human perception mechanisms. Users’ psychophysical processes influence visual perception of screen space. Therefore, one needs to consider the psychology of human perception of the computer, the theory of information transfer, and also human psychophysiology to create highly usable interfaces and achieve effective users’ interactions with websites. All this reduces the cognitive load and time for information search, and meets users’ needs in the most convenient way. In addition, the principles of organizing web text in a way that ensures the best perception of information by the user are defined, in particular: structure, visualization, laconism and clarity. The article reveals the significance of website usability, describes criteria and methods of its assessment. Among the indicators used in website evaluation, the following are highlighted: effectiveness, navigation convenience, memorability. The author describes the methods for evaluating the effectiveness of the website, namely: statistics analysis, collection and analysis of visitors’ opinions, observing users’ actions, engaging users in testing. It is proved that the observance of usability principles results in an increased number of visitors and time they spend on a website, higher conversion rate, etc. The principles described in the article are generalization of the world experience of website design professionals.

Web usability is the ease of use of a website. Some goals of usability are the presentation of information and choices in a clear and concise way, a lack of ambiguity and the placement of important items in appropriate areas. On the other hand, user experience is something more than usability. It includes each and every experience that the users have while using the service. And of course, usability rules affect the user experience. In this study, understanding the principles of user-centered design and how it improves user experience is the main purpose. For this aim, https://www.virginamerica.com, which is the web site that gained the two thousand sixteen Best User Experince award from The Webby Awards, has been studied as a case study.    Keywords: web design, user experience, Virgin America.
