It is shown the efficiency of the application of preparative forms (dry and liquid) of Kartofin during the growing season 2016-2018 years against major diseases of potatoes and the impact on the growth and development of culture. Biopreparation possesses high fungistatic effect, protecting potato plants against rhizoctonia disease, potato blight and late blight under field conditions and tubers of the new crop from dry rot. In years of low and moderate disease development, the effectiveness of the studied Potato biopreparation on the Sante variety was at the level of the reference chemical variant, equally reducing the distribution and degree of disease development. In the years of epiphytotic disease development fungistatic effect of the biopreparation was inferior in efficiency to chemical fungicides, but had a significant protective effect compared to the control, reducing the distribution of rhizoctonia disease by 22.5%, potato blightby 20.7%, late blight by 12.8% on average. The results of tuberous analyses after harvesting showed a decrease in the percentage of tuber damage by dry rot in variants with Kartofin (1.7 and 1.4%). The yield of the standard potatoes after application of Kartofin was slightly higher than in the control – by  5.1–7.7%.

This article presents the results of researches of the phytosanitary condition and yield of potato tubers, treated with chemical and biological fungicides. The authors of the paper are Zaytseva Tatyana Vasilevna, a post graduate student of General agriculture, plant protection and plant breeding Department, Safin Radik Ilyasovich – Ph Of Agriculture, professor, a head of General agriculture, plant protection and plant breeding Department. The article is entitled “Influence of preplant treatment of potato tubers by fungicide for diseases such as scab”. It is divided into the following parts: “Introduction”, “Research terms, materials and methods”, “Discussion and analysis of results”, “Conclusion”. In the introduction, we discussed the problem of rise the prevalence and severity of diseases such as scab of potato; formulated an aim - to justify, develop the biologized security system of potato tubers from diseases such as scab. Then the general characteristic of the problem was given, the conditions, materials and methods were described. The main part presents the analysis and discussion of the results on the impact of contamination of planting material tubers by scab type diseases on growth and development of potato plants, distribution and development of leaf mycosis, infectiousness of new crop tubers by diseases, such as scab. The paper presents data, confirming the basic provisions. In conclusion, it states, that the obtained data led to the preliminary conclusion, that biologics be stronger or almost equal influence on the growth of productivity, than chemical protectant.

Weather parameters play an important role in the spread of potato late blight of caused by Phytophthora infestans (Mont.) de Bary has historically been serious disease of potatoes through worldwide, including India. Due to spatial variation in prevailing weather conditions, its severity varies from region to region. Disease development process and the weather parameters are well understood and have been utilized for disease developing forecasting models and decision support system. Therefore, an experiment was conducted for two consecutive cropping seasons (2017 & 2018) to develop a forecasting model against late blight of potato using stepwise regression analysis for Northern Himalayas in India. Maximum and minimum temperature, relative humidity, rainfall and wind speed appeared to be most significant factors in the potato late blight disease development. The meteorological conditions conducive for the development of potato late blight disease were characterized. Maximum and minimum temperatures in the range of 15.0 – 28.0°C and 2.0 – 12.0°C were found favorable for potato blight disease. Similarly, relative humidity, rainfall and wind speed in the range of 85 - 95 per cent, 15.5 - 20.75 mm and 1.0 - 5.5 Km h-1, respectively, were conducive for potato late blight disease which are helpful in disease development.

Abstract Interrogation of hematopoietic tissue at the clonal level has a rich history spanning over 50 years, and has provided critical insights into both normal and malignant hematopoiesis. Characterization of chromosomes identified some of the first genetic links to cancer with the discovery of chromosomal translocations in association with many hematological neoplasms. The unique accessibility of hematopoietic tissue and the ability to clonally expand hematopoietic progenitors in vitro has provided fundamental insights into the cellular hierarchy of normal hematopoiesis, as well as the functional impact of driver mutations in disease. Transplantation assays in murine models have enabled cellular assessment of the functional consequences of somatic mutations in vivo. Most recently, next-generation sequencing–based assays have shown great promise in allowing multi-“omic” characterization of single cells. Here, we review how clonal approaches have advanced our understanding of disease development, focusing on the acquisition of somatic mutations, clonal selection, driver mutation cooperation, and tumor evolution.

Fusarium proliferatum has been reported as the main causal agent of garlic dry rot during the postharvest stage, but information on this fungus during the crop growth stage is lacking. We focused on the cropping season of garlic (Allium sativum L.) in the field, until its harvest, with the aim of clarifying the role of F. proliferatum in bulb infection as well as the impact of crop growing conditions on pathogen-plant interaction. Studies were conducted in Piacenza (northern Italy) for three seasons from 2016 to 2019. Six garlic farms were sampled. A different field was sampled every year. Soil samples were recovered at sowing time for the counting of fungal colony forming units (CFU). Plant samples were collected at three growth stages, from BBCH 15 (fifth leaf visible) to BBCH 49 (ripening), for which disease severity assessment and fungi isolations were performed. Fusarium was the most frequently isolated genus, of which F. proliferatum and F. oxysporum were the dominant species. F. proliferatum registered the highest incidence in all the farms tested, but F. oxysporum was dominant in the first year of the study. F. oxysporum incidence was correlated with dry weather, whereas F. proliferatum was correlated with rainy weather. In conclusion, our result confirms the association of F. proliferatum with garlic bulbs from the crop’s early growth stages, suggesting potential seed transmission as a source of this fungal pathogen. Further studies should investigate the link between fusaria occurrence in the field and dry rot outbreaks occurring postharvest and during storage of garlic.

Background: Psoriasis affects nearly 1% of the world population. It can be a source of significant morbidity and psychological stress to the patient but is not lethal under ordinary circumstances. Patients suffering from the disease feel a lack of empathy on part of care-givers, family members, healthcare professionals as well as society in general. Dermatology life quality index (DLQI) is a questionnaire-based assessment of health related quality of life in patients suffering from skin disorders and has been seen to correlate well with the impact of the disease on a patient. This study was done to understand the impact of psoriasis on the overall well-being of patients using DLQI as the tool of assessment.Methods: The study included 40 cases of psoriasis that were assessed for the severity of the disease based on percentage body surface area involvement. The impact of disease severity and other factors on the quality of life of the patient was assessed using DLQI.Results: Out of 35 patients with BSA involvement <50% (mild and moderate disease), 28.6% (n=10/35) showed a very large or extremely large effect on the quality of life while no patient with a BSA involvement >50% (severe and very severe disease) reported the same. A small, moderate or no effect on the DLQI was seen in 71.4% (n=25/35) of cases from the mild and moderate disease group while 100% (n=5/5) of cases from severe and very severe disease group reported a similar effect. Thus, DLQI was not directly related to the extent of BSA involvement and was dependent on other factors as well.Conclusion: Age had a correlation with the effect of the disease on the quality of life of psoriasis cases. Patients who were younger were more likely to report stress and anxiety related to the recurrences seen with the disease. Patients with lesions on sites that are socially exposed like face, hands, scalp, etc. were more likely to feel embarrassed about their condition. Younger age, female gender, lesions on exposed sites and recently diagnosed patients (<12 months) were factors which had a significant impact on the health-related quality of life of patients. The severity of disease and extent of involvement were not always directly related to extent of impact on the quality of life.

The impact of vector density and timing of infestation on potato were investigated. Healthy potato plants at different growth stages (4, 5, and 7 weeks after germination) were exposed separately to four different B. cockerelli densities (0, 5, 20, and 40 psyllids per cage) in field cages and Zebra chip (ZC) symptoms, leaf photosynthetic rates, tuber yield, and total nonstructural carbohydrate accumulation in leaves and tubers of healthy and B. cockerelli-infested plants were monitored. Potato psyllid nymph and egg populations reached a seasonal peak at 6 weeks after the exposure to insect. Younger plants at 4-week growth stage after germination were more susceptible to B. cockerelli infestation and ZC expression than older plants. As few as five B. cockerelli adults were enough to transmit the ZC pathogen and cause ZC expression both in foliage and tuber. At the density of 20 psyllids per cage, more than 50% of plants showed ZC symptoms in tubers. Furthermore, B. cockerelli infestation reduced leaf photosynthesis rates (P<sub>n</sub>), resulting in less starch and more reducing sugars in tubers, and hence reduced tuber weight and yield, especially when psyllid infestation occurred at the early growth stages. The results indicate that early B. cockerelli infestation of younger plants was associated with more severe ZC expression in both foliage and tubers, leading to earlier dead plants. The data suggest that strategies for controlling B. cockerelli during early potato crop development could thus lessen the severity of ZC development.

The lead article ‘‘Resveratrol commonly displays hormesis: occurrence and biomedical significance’’ underlines the hormetic response of resveratrol in many disease models. This commentary suggests that the greatest potential advantage of the positive effects of resveratrol for the broad population would be as prevention of disease development through oral administration in its original food matrix, although it still remains important to investigate the extent of resveratrol administration giving maximum beneficial effect for biomedical purposes. In relation to resveratrol ‘‘supplementation’’ through its natural environment further investigation of the impact of co-occurring bioactive compounds and matrix effects on hormetic responses of resveratrol is necessary for revealing mechanisms behind e.g. the ‘‘French paradox’’.

Cultivar mixtures can reduce potato late blight severity on susceptible cultivars. While alternating rows of susceptible and resistant cultivars would be more acceptable than random mixtures for commercial use, they increase the genotype unit area, which is an unfavorable factor for mixture efficiency, and have been minimally efficient when disease pressure is high. The effects of disease pressure on the performance of alternating rows of cultivars possessing various types and levels of resistance were investigated in 2000 and 2001 near Quito, Ecuador, where natural pressure of late blight is high. The experiments included the highly susceptible cvs. Cecilia in 2000 and LBr37 in 2001, as well as C114 (moderately resistant) and PAN (highly resistant), planted as pure stands and as the three possible two-way combinations. Different disease pressures were obtained with three spraying schedules of a contact fungicide: nontreated, one spray every second week, and one spray weekly. The area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC) on the susceptible cultivar was 0 to 20% less in mixed than in pure plots when no fungicide was applied, 13 to 26% less with a biweekly application of fungicide, and 32 to 53% less with a weekly application. These values are comparable to those obtained in previous experiments in smaller plots with designs maximizing the distance between susceptible plants. No significant differences in mixture performance were observed according to the resistant cultivar included. Effects on yield were minimal, because of the impact of factors other than late blight. Disease pressure therefore appears as a major factor conditioning the efficiency of potato cultivar mixtures against late blight.
