Beekeeping is one of the promising enterprises for economically poor farmers in Nepal but beekeeping farmers lack flora calendar for pollination, bee foraging, and honey production. Therefore, a study was conducted visiting farmers’ fields every 15-20 days during 2012-2013 to monitor the common plant species visited by bees, which were considered as bee forage plants categorized as major, and minor sources of pollen and/or nectar.  Relevant information was also gathered through key informant interviews and group discussions. During the study period a total of 252 plant species were recorded and their floral calendar prepared. In the study area. The main species identified were: rice, Oryza sativa L.; maize, Zea mays L.; buckwheat, Fagopyrum esculentum Moench.; rapeseed, Brassica campestris L.; sesame, Sesamum   orientale L.; litchi, Litchi chinensis Sonner; and cucurbits (bottle gourd,  Lagenaria siceraria (Molina) Standl; sponge gourd, Luffa cylindrica  (L.) Roem.; bitter gourd, Momordica charantia L.), Leucas (gumpate), Leucas lanata Benth.; Butternut (chiuri),  Bassia butyracea Roxb.; Pogostemon (rudilo), Pogostemon glaber Benth.; guava, Pisum sativum L;  Sisoo, Dalbergia sissoo Roxb.; Throughwort (Banmara), Eupatorium sp.; silk tree (Padke), Albizia julibrissin Durazz ; Terminalia (Saj) Terminalia bellirica (Geartn.) Roxb. and Murraya (kadipatta) Murraya koenigii (L.) Spreng.  Species of Brassica, Pogestemon, Bassia, Citrus, and Artemisia, Pisum, Ipomoea and Eupatorium species were some of the important plants which bloomed during winter. And, Lagerstroemia sp., Impatiens sp, Sesamum indicum L., Zea mays L., Albizia sp. and many cucurbits bloomed during rainy season. Fagopyrum esculentum Moench, Brassica campestral L, Lagerstroemia indica L, Bombax ceiba L, Albizia julibrissin Durazz., Eugenia formosa Wall., Shorea robusta, Guartn. Upatorium grandulosum, Pogostemon glaber Benth. Terminalia alata Heyne ex.Roth, Murraya koenigii (L.) Spreng Sesamum orientale L. Dalbergia sissoo Roxb. were the major bee flora both rich in nectar and pollen.

Two-row corn (Zea mays L.) windbreaks were grown adjacent to buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench.) to determine their effects on buckwheat yield and other agronomic characteristics. It was concluded that two-row corn windbreaks may improve buckwheat yields under certain environmental conditions, but the benefits may not be large enough nor consistent enough to warrant the additional cost and inconvenience of providing this protection.Key words: Buckwheat, corn, windbreaks

Wild plants are plants whose presence on agricultural land can reduce crop yields. Losses due to wild plants to cultivated plants vary depending on the type of plant cultivated, climate, species of wild plants and technical cultivation applied. This study aims to determine the diversity of wild plants in the land of maize (Zea mays L.) in Bung-bungan Village Bluto District Sumenep Regency. This method uses a descriptive exploratory method, for each wild plant found in ± 3600 m2 of corn land. Sampling of wild plants using a 4x4 m plot method. The measured data includes the number of species and the number of individuals calculating important values ​​and diversity indices. The results of the study showed that the Shannon-Wienner Diversity Index analysis of the highest value in maize plants in plantations was found in land II, which was 2.678 indicating moderate diversity, categorized as moderate because there were not too many wild plants on maize.  Keywords: Corn, diversity, wild plants,  ABSTRAK Tumbuhan liar merupakan tumbuhan yang kehadirannya pada lahan pertanian dapat menurunkan hasil tanaman. Kerugian akibat tumbuhan  liar terhadap tanaman budidaya beragam bergantung dari jenis tanaman yang diusahakan, iklim, jenis tumbuhan  liar dan teknis budidaya yang diterapkan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui diversitas tumbuhan liar di lahan jagung (Zea mays L.) di Desa Bung-bungan Kecamatan Bluto Kabupaten Sumenep. Metode ini menggunakan metode deskriptif eksploratif, terhadap setiap tumbuhan liar yang ditemukan pada lahan jagung seluas ±3600 m2. Pengambilan sampel tumbuhan liar menggunakan metode plot berukuran 4x4 m. Data yang diukur meliputi jumlah spesies dan jumlah individu menghitung nilai penting dan indeks diversitas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan analisis Indeks Keanekaragaman Shannon-Wienner tumbuhan liar nilai tertinggi pada tanaman jagung di lkebun terdapat pada lahan II yaitu 2,678 menunjukkan keanekaragaman sedang, di kategorikan sedang karena jenis tanaman liar yang ada pada lahan jagung tidak terlalu banyak. The studies on floral homeotic mutants of the model plant species Arabidopsis thaliana (L.) Heynh. and Antirrhinum majus L. have clarified many important aspects of the genetic control of flower development. However, the details of this process can vary in species representing different lineages of flowering plants. The studies on floral homeotic mutants of nonmodel plant species may significantly improve the understanding of the mechanisms of morphological evolution of flowers. We report here the results of the genetic and morphological analysis of two floral homeotic mutants of common buckwheat ( Fagopyrum esculentum Moench.). The mutant, tepal-like bract (tlb), is characterized by the transformation of bracts into petaloid organs, whereas fagopyrum apetala (fap), has a carpelloid perianth. Both mutant phenotypes are caused by a single recessive nuclear mutation. The double mutant fap tlb combines the features of tlb and fap. Our results show that single gene mutations are sufficient to convert the buckwheat bract into a tepal and to confer carpel identity on first whorl organs. These results are consistent with the premise that variations on the ABC model can be used to explain a wide range of floral architectures.

The research aims to find out the diversity and association between wild plant species on rice fields (Oryza sativa) and corn (Zea mays) at technical unit of Singosari Seed Crop Development, Malang Regency. In this study using the survey method, by observing directly any wild plants found in the fields of rice and corn. The exploration of wild plants was carried out by exploratory methods, namely observing wild plants found around rice and maize plantations in predetermined plots. Analysis of the data used is the Shannon-Wienner Diversity Index and Pielou Evenness Index. Whereas to find out the association between wild plant species that is by calculating the Chi-square test based on the results of the 2x2 contingency table whose value is obtained from the presence or absence of speces in a plot. Furthermore, to find out the positive or negative interactions that occur, the correlation coefficient calculation is also based on the 2x2 contingency table. The results obtained for the highest Diversity Index value of 2.729 was on land II from the corn field. Whereas the high palin value of Pielou's Tightness Index of 0.371 is on land II from the corn field. Keywords: Diversity, association, wild plants ABSTRAK Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui diversitas dan asosiasi antar spesies tumbuhan liar pada lahan tanaman padi (Oryza sativa) dan jagung (Zea mays) di UPT Pengembangan Benih Palawija Singosari Kabupaten Malang. Penelitian ini mengunakan metode Eksploratif, dengan mengamati langsung setiap tumbuhan liar yang terdapat pada lahan tanaman padi dan jagung. Pengambilan sampel tumbuhan liar dilakukan cara purposive sampling yaitu mengamati tumbuhan liar yang terdapat di sekitar pertanaman padi dan jagung pada plot-plot yang sudah ditentukan. Analisis data yang digunakan yaitu Indeks Keanekaragaman shannon-Wienner dan Indeks Kemerataan Pielou. Sedangkan untuk mengetahui asosiasi antar spesies tumbuhan liar yaitu dengan menghitung uji Chi-square berdasarkan hasil tabel kontingensi 2x2 yang nilainya didapatkan dari ada atau tidak adanya spesies dalam suatu plot. Selanjutnya untuk mengetahui positif atau negatifnya interaksi yang terjadi dilakukan perhitungan koifisien korelasi yang juga didasarkan pada tabek kontingensi 2x2. Hasil yang didapatkan untuk Indeks Keanekaragaman yaitu nilai paling tinggi berada pada lahan II dari lahan tanaman jagung yaitu  2,729. Sedangkan nilai paling tinggi dari Indeks Kemeratan Pielou berada pada lahan II dari lahan tanaman jagung yaitu 0,371. Kata kunci: Diveritas, asosiasi, tumbuhan liar.

El trabajo se realizó durante el segundo semestre del año 2000, en la Universidad de Córdoba, con el propósito de determinar el efecto alelopático de extractos de crotalaria ( Crotalaria juncea L.) y coquito (Cyperus rotundus L.) sobre la emergencia y crecimiento inicial de arvenses y cultivos de importancia económica. En pre y post-emergencia se estableció un diseño completamente al azar con un arreglo factorial de 2 x 8 (2 extractos: crotalaria y coquito; 8 especies: maíz ( Zea mays L.), algodón ( Gossypium hirsutum L.), arroz (Oryza sativa L.), fríjol (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), coquito (Cyperus rotundus L.), meloncillo (Cucumis melo L.), caminadora (Rottboelia cochinchinensis L.) y mentolada (Stemodia durantifolia ). Los extractos se obtuvieron de plantas completas, por medio del método de maceración en frío con etanol al 96%. Las variables evaluadas fueron porcentaje de emergencia, altura de planta, número de hojas, masa seca y área foliar. Los resultados en preemergencia indicaron que la crotalaria mostró efectos alelopáticos sobre el porcentaje de emergencia de coquito, mentolada y algodón; el porcentaje de emergencia de caminadora se redujo significativamente con el extracto de coquito. Las variables masa seca, área foliar y número de hojas no fueron afectadas por los tratamientos en ninguna de las especies. En post-emergencia se observó que la altura de la planta de maíz, algodón y fríjol fue afectada por el extracto de coquito y para meloncillo, coquito y caminadora fue afectada por crotalaria; el número de hojas en mentolada fue afectado por coquito al igual que la masa seca de meloncillo, coquito y maíz, en tanto que mentolada y caminadora fueron afectadas por crotalaria. El área foliar se afectó en todas las especies ante la aplicación del extracto de coquito, excepto el arroz.

Acondicionaram-se sementes de arroz 'IAC 1246' (Oryza sativa L.) e milho 'Hmd 7974' (Zea mays L.) em embalagens permeáveis ao vapor de água - pano, papel, plástico trançado 5 x 5 e 5 x 6 - e na relativamente impermeável - plástico liso, de 0,25 mm de espessura. Mantiveram-nas em condições não controladas de armazém nas localidades de Campinas e Ubatuba, testando-as quanto à umidade, germinação e vigor a cada trimestre, por 36 meses. As sementes armazenadas em Ubatuba deterioraram-se mais rapidamente, sobretudo quando acondicionadas nas embalagens permeáveis. Em Campinas, as sementes de arroz embaladas em sacos de pano mantiveram germinação acima de 80% até os quinze meses, enquanto aquelas de Ubatuba o fizeram somente até os seis meses. O acondicionamento em saco de plástico liso foi bastante vantajoso, principalmente em Ubatuba, onde, aos 15 meses, a germinação das sementes de milho foi nula quando mantidas nas outras embalagens, e de 97,5% quando no saco plástico liso. As embalagens de pano, papel, plástico trançado 5 x 5 e 5 x 6 foram semelhantes entre si na manutenção da germinação e do vigor das sementes. Os resultados obtidos salientaram a grande dificuldade ou mesmo impossibilidade do armazenamento de sementes em áreas, quentes e úmidas, como Ubatuba, a menos que haja controle da temperatura e umidade relativa do ambiente do armazém, ou mediante secagem das sementes até níveis relativamente baixos de umidade (10-11% ou menos) seguida de acondicionamento em embalagem que ofereça resistência à troca de umidade. As embalagens permeáveis ao vapor de água mostraram-se bastante práticas para o armazenamento em regiões de clima mais favorável à manutenção da viabilidade das sementes.
