ABSTRACTThis research was conducted to determine the status of Lake Toba water quality in the area of Toba Samosir (Tobasa) Regency and the feasibility of its use. This study revealed that BOD, COD, iron and free Cl2 of Lake Toba Tobasa regency exceed water quality criteria for Class I and Class II based on Governor Decree No. 1 Year 2009 on Raw water quality of Lake Toba in North Sumatera. High COD and BOD values imply that Lake Toba water was polluted by organic matter presumably originated from floating net cages (KJA), while free Cl2 is thought to originate from domestic waste activities in Parapat City and its surroundings. In general, it was concluded that the water of Lake Toba in the Tobasa Regency did not meet the criteria for clean water and water tourism.Keywords: Lake Toba, raw water, pollution, water qualityABSTRAKPenelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui kualitas air Danau Toba wilayah Kabupaten Toba Samosir (Tobasa) dan kelayakan peruntukannya. Tingginya nilai COD dan BOD mengisyaratkan bahwa perairan Danau Toba tercemar oleh bahan organik yang diduga berasal keramba jaring apung (KJA), sedangkan Cl2 bebas diduga berasal dari limbah domestik kegiatan Kota Parapat dan sekitarnya. Secara umum disimpulkan bahwa air Danau Toba di wilayah Kabupaten Tobasa tidak/belum memenuhi kriteria untuk air baku air minum  dan wisata air.Kata kunci: danau Toba, bahan baku air, pencemaran, baku mutu

Abstract The increasing need for agricultural land has led to a shift in the cultivation of vegetation on peatland especially food crops. Agricultural activities on peatland require careful planning, appropriate technology application, and proper management due to the marginal and the fragile peatland ecosystem. Research and development are needed to evaluate the carrying capacity of environmental impacts on peatland use. This study aimed to obtain information on the water quality of peat domes, primary canals, and secondary canals of Block C, Pulang Pisau Regency. The study area is now mostly used for agricultural activities. The analysis was carried out in a descriptive qualitative manner based on water parameter testing results to assess the water quality of peat domes, primary canals, and secondary canals of each type of peatland use in Buntoi, Garung, and Kanamit Barat Village. The results indicated that five chemical parameters exceeded the water quality criteria for Class II PP No. 22/2021 namely BOD, COD, free chlorine, zinc, and lead in Buntoi. Further, in Garung, six chemical parameters exceeded the water quality criteria: DO, BOD, COD, free chlorine, lead, and copper. Meanwhile, in Kanamit Barat Village, seven chemical parameters exceeded the criteria: DO, BOD, COD, free chlorine, zinc, lead, and copper. Based on this research, therefore, agricultural activities on this peatland area should consider the natural characteristics of peat water and the selection of suitable plants.

The development of an area must be accompanied by an ever-increasing population growth which will also increase the waste produced. Waste production will put pressure on the environment if it is not managed properly which will eventually end up in water bodies. The increased pollution load is also caused by the habit of people disposing of domestic waste, both liquid waste and solid waste directly into the water. Batujai Reservoir is one of the vital objects for the survival of the people of Central Lombok in particular, and the people of Lombok Island in general. Because of its vital role, the Batujai Reservoir needs to be saved so that the reservoir ecosystem can carry out its functions and benefits in improving the welfare of the people of Central Lombok. There are several community activities that are a source of direct reservoir water pollution (point source) such as fishing activities using floating net cages and disposal of domestic waste by the community which is directly channeled to water bodies. Pollutants collected in the Batujai Reservoir will reduce the water quality of the Batujai Reservoir. This research aims to analyze the water quality of the Batujai Reservoir which is caused by business activities and the community based on Government Regulation Number 82 of 2001 and to determine the water pollution index of the Batujai Reservoir. This study uses a quantitative approach by collecting primary data from direct observations in the field and secondary data based on previous research reports and government reports. The results showed that the average physical parameters were above the water quality standard threshold for class II water quality, the average chemical parameters were above the water quality standard for class III and class IV water quality, while the biological parameters were above the threshold. Water quality limits for class II and class III. The decline in water quality in the Batujai Reservoir is caused by various wastes entering the Batujai Reservoir water bodies. The analysis result with storet system shows that the water quality of Batujai Reservoir is in bad condition or heavily polluted.

River Bian in Merauke Regency has been utilized by local people in Papua (the Marind) who live along the river for fulfilling their daily needs, such as shower, cloth and dish washing, and even defecation, waste disposal, including domestic waste, as well as for ceremonial activities related to the locally traditional culture. Change in land use for other necessities and domestic activities of the local people have mounted pressures on the status of the River Bian, thus decreasing the quality of the river. This study had objectives to find out and to analyze river water quality and water quality status of the River Bian, and its compliance with water quality standards for ideal use. The study determined sample point by a purposive sampling method, taking the water samples with a grab method. The analysis of the water quality was performed by standard and pollution index methods. The study revealed that the water quality of River Bian, concerning BOD, at the station 3 had exceeded quality threshold. COD parameter for all stations had exceeded the quality threshold for class III. At three stations, there was a decreasing value due to increasing PI, as found at the stations 1, 2, and 3. In other words, River Bian had been lightly contaminated.

High demand for clean water in Banjarmasin requires PDAM Bandarmasih to do some developments, but its efforts are hindered by the water quality of raw water to be processed. It is therefore necessary to conduct a study on the water quality of raw water sources of PDAM Bandarmasih, especially during dry season. Water quality testing was carried out by performing direct experiments in the field and in the laboratory with 7 criteria including water temperature, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, pH, turbidity, salinity and dissolved oxygen that were compared with the criteria of water class B (water that can be used as the raw water for drinking water), on the basis of the Regulation of the Minister of Health of the Indonesia Republic No. 492/Menkes/PER/IV/2010. Based on the analyses of water quality in the field and in the laboratory from 4 intakes namely Sungai Tabuk, Pematang Panjang, Sungai Lulut and Sungai Bilu, and the comparison of the results with the test results of water quality of the samples from PDAM taken in dry season, indicated that the amount of salt content (salinity) in two intakes, Sungai Lulut and Sungai Bilu was so high that the production of clean water from both intakes was stopped temporarily during the dry season. The service for clean water was therefore provided only at the intakes of Sungai Tabuk and Pematang Panjang during dry season, resulting in some reduction in distribution to some areas in Banjarmasin.

ABSTRACT In the area of North Tapanuli Regency, a special economic zone for Taman Bunga Tourism will be developed; so that in the future this area will require large amounts of clean water for consumption and water tourism facilities. In order to anticipate this water demand, a research was carried out to determine the feasibility of Lake Toba water in the North Tapanuli Regency area for drinking water raw water and water tourism infrastructure. This research was carried out with in-situ observations and water sampling for analysis in the laboratory according to the procedures of ISO 5667-6:2014 and ISO 5667-3:2012. This study suggests that Lake Toba water in the North Tapanuli Regency area is not yet suitable to be used as raw water for drinking water and water tourism infrastructure because it still has parameters of BOD, COD, Iron, and Barium that do not meet (exceed) the water quality criteria; according to Attachment Number VI to Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 22 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of Environmental Protection and Management Keywords: Lake Toba, North Tapanuli, raw water, water recreation, water quality standard.   ABSTRAK Di wilayah Kabupaten Tapanuli utara akan dikembangkan kawasan ekonomi khusus Pariwisata Taman Bunga, sehingga pada saatnya nanti kawasan ini akan memerlukan air bersih dalam jumlah besar untuk konsumsi dan sarana wisata air. Dalam rangka mengantisipasi kebutuhan air tersebut maka dilaksanakan penelitian untuk mengetahui kelayakan air Danau Toba di wilayah Kabupaten Tapanuli Utara untuk air baku air minum dan sarana prasarana wisata air. Penelitian dlaksanakan dengan pengamatan in-situ dan pengambilan sampel untuk analisis laboratorium sesuai prosedur ISO 5667-6:2014 dan ISO 5667-3:2012. Penelitian ini mengisaratkan bahwa air Danau Toba di wilayah Kabupaten Tapanuli Utara tidak layak untuk dijadikan air baku air minum dan sarana prasarana rekreasi air karena masih memiliki parameter BOD, COD, total fosfat, besi, dan barium yang tidak memenuhi nilai baku mutu yang berlaku. Untuk memanfatkan air Danau Toba di wilayah Kabupaten Tapanuli Utara diperlukan upaya penurunan konsentrasi parameter-parameter tersebut. The quantity and quality of water available for irrigation is variable from place to place in India. There are regions where the farmers have no access to any surface water body, nor do they have any ground water source yielding water of acceptable quality for irrigation. In some of the coastal areas, neither surface water nor ground water of acceptable quality may be available. In such areas, setting up an industry and transporting good quality surface water from long distances to the site may be useful for farmers in the adjacent areas; the treated wastewater from the industry may constitute a dependable source for irrigation. This paper gives a brief account of some of these peculiar situations. Whatever the situation, it is necessary that the water used for irrigation is of an acceptable quality for the crop concerned, growing on the soil of the site. For a given crop, during its growth cycle, it is essential that the concentration of the soil solution around the root zone with regard to dissolved solids and specific ions, does not exceed the tolerance limit for the crop. The tolerance limits for various crops are different, representing 8- to 10-fold variation. Soil type and meteorological parameters of the site, for a given irrigation scheduling, also govern as to what will be the maximum soil solution concentration during the growth cycle of the crop. For a given crop, given soil and prevailing climate, the quality of irrigation water and management ultimately determine this maximum level. At a given place, the type of soil and meteorological parameters cannot be managed by human beings. The farmer can, however, exercise some control on the quality of irrigation water by selecting an appropriate source or changing the quality by dilution and/or he can make certain changes in the agronomic control and crop selection. In this paper, an attempt has been made to describe a few more important irrigation water quality criteria which will be easy for the users to follow and arrive at a decision on management, agronomic controls including crop selection, and search for an alternative water source of acceptable quality. This paper also describes a few cases of application of the irrigation water quality criteria in helping to make relevant decisions.

Intermittent discharges of storm sewage from combined sewer overflows continue to be one of the principal causes of poor water quality in many urban rivers in the UK. Despite the persistent nature of this problem, very little attention has been given to the study of how discharges of varying magnitude, duration and frequency affect the ecological quality of receiving waters. This information is of critical importance for deriving meaningful water quality criteria for the control of intermittent pollution. This paper describes the results of a study which has been carried out on Pendle Water, a river which flows through the urban catchment of Burnley, Lancashire, UK. Both the chemical and biological quality of Pendle Water are adversely affected by storm sewage discharges during heavy rainfall events. The ecological investigation has been primarily concerned with impact of these episodic discharges on benthic invertebrate communities and physiological responses in fish. Quantitative sampling of macroinvertebrates has indicated that storm sewage discharges may have a significant impact on the structure and diversity of benthic communities in receiving waters. Physico-chemical properties of habitats appear to be altered in a way which tends to favour the proliferation of certain pollution-tolerant species and decrease the abundance of taxa intolerant of organic pollution. Insitu bioassays, including the WRc Mark III Fish Monitor, have been deployed to investigate physiological responses to storm events of different magnitude, duration and frequency. Results are discussed in relation to their application in the field validation of proposed water quality criteria for the control of intermittent pollution from combined sewer overflows.
